Roanoke Gaming love your vids man! The level of detail you go into with these lore videos is so interesting! I love dead space and Halo which is how I found your channel.
The only place you see the plated Nosalis in Metro 2033 is in the Darkstar level. Right after you go through a blast door and get separated from the group of rangers after it shuts behind you. They actively avoid your flashlight and attack unrelenting whenever you turn it off. Note that they only appear in the original game since 2033 redux replaced them with spiderbugs.
I was mystified by the removal of the plates nosalis for spiderbugs as well. While it kinda made sense in remembering Artyom at some point in a journal in Last Light mentioned suspecting the creatures existed before the nukes in only the deepest and darkest places, it removed a lot of the tension and fear of that section for me. Not knowing when the plated nosalis was going to jump me again was top for tension.
Yeah, it was insane they cut them really. Since they are actively using stealth attacks to fight you and deal quick damage while being quick themselves. (Real pain on hardcore without the Volt Driver)
I just played through 2033 on ranger hardcore, and I gotta say the spider bugs in that section are no trouble at all. I honestly forgot about the plated ones, but I prefer the ass whooping they dish out as opposed to the bugs. More of a challenge idk
Legit russian here. Gotta ruin your fun, Moscow should be pronounced Mos-Qua. Some minor interesting stuff, in Russian Nosalis is often referd as "Упырь" - Literally "Ghoul" or slang for nasty looking/acting men. Some childern says that his dad is a stalker(ranger) and that he saw "Big Momma" of nosalis.
I love the idea that the mutants in each game look so drastically different because they're all the result of rapid mutation, and are constantly changing. In the case of the Nosalis, they're not a singular species, but a whole clade of closely related, but morphologically distinct animals that work together in coalitions with a loose social structure, essentially trying to mimic and overthrow humanity.
The plated nosalis was encountered in the original version of 2033 in only one section on the way to D6 when Artyom gets separated from his team and must navigate these extremely dark corridors where you do almost mini-boss fight style battles with only a handful of these guys. Hence the glowing eyes to allow them to see and make them more distinguishable in the dark. I was rather disappointed that they replaced these guys with the spider scorpion like creatures that were added in Last Light. Still kinda prefer the original 2033 to the redux version, myself. Wish I still had it and could play it.
You can still get a original copy for Metro 2033 on PC if you find a Steam key for it. Just google ''Metro 2033 cd key Steam'' and there you go. Make sure you do not purches the redux version (again)
You know the craziest thing about the Nosalises? They didn't even exist in the original book the first game was based on! Nosalises were mutants invented for the game, but they quickly grew in popularity and pretty much became the *Metro* series's mutant mascot. Seriously, besides possibly Demons or Watchmen, Nosalises are the most recognizable mutant from the franchise.
Also I just wanted to add that from what I can tell is that each one is probably from a different species that just happens to be a convergent evolution type of thing you when while usually creatures that are considered part of a converter or creatures that have convergent evolution as a part of their species sometimes two creatures can have a totally different ancestral ties yet look very very similar like to the point of being considered identical
Roanoke Gaming yes like the normal one is a shrew but the stronger one might be a rat flying ones might be bats and so on. They all have very similar body plans and could properly explain why they are similar but not the same. Though they could be guini pigs look at the skull shape.
I love the Metro games, really underrated shooters. Seeing this makes me wish you would make some videos about the enemies from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series as well.
Same. Though the shooting aspect is not the only thing that sells it for me. I love the story of the game as well. Along with the visuals of the environment and the creatures.
I enjoy the suggestion of the novel. That there is supernatural element. That perhaps the older creatures of a lost world. Woken by humanities destruction
I laughed way too hard at 9:09. Your reaction to the guy saying something suspicious and then disappearing forever is hilarious to me. It's like part of the lore of this channel now.
I never died to the bandits, the nazis, the Reds, and other humans. Spiders? No problem. Demons? Run like hell to cover. A pack of snouts? Well fuck, I'm out of ammo and still outnumbered...
I encountered the plated Nosalis in Metro 2033 in one of those tunnels before you reach D6. There's a point there where you separate from your squad. The first door you go through you meet your first plated Nosalis. I had a Volt Driver so I enjoyed killing that thing, but apparently it can be stared down like a Librarian. The second one is just before you reach your squad again, in a place that is pitch black. I found it feasting on a corpse. This one I chose to sneak past.
You’re welcome!, as someone’s who always been interested in the inner working of organism and creatures ( especially the Necromorph )this channel is perfect for me
Plated nosalis? I think there is One later in the Metro campaign once you are off to find the nukes to blow up the dark ones. Atleast i Remember i had One yellow eyed bastard that was the size of a nosalis and took autoshotgun magazines to the face After i was seperated from the group.... man that Thing was scarier than the Demons...
Love me some Metro lore. I think it must've went through some rapid mutation because the eyes, whether they're weak or blind, is still on the side. Predators typically have them in the front for depth perception.
sometimes when they attack in packs and the first one gets taken out, second or third nosalis actually stops dead in its tracks and starts crawling laterally, trying to get out of the line of fire and change its angle of attack. noticed it a lot in LL on ranger hardcore. thought it was kinda cool in terms of ai behavior, worth mentioning. also in LL in the venice level one of the dudes has a pet nosalis haha.
7:00 In the original Metro 2033 game i've encountered plated nosalis in the tunnels when getting into D6 percicely when Artyom is trapped/separated from the squad by the gate, in the following spaces you should encounter plated nosalis. I dont know perhaps they dont appear in the redux version of the game at all.
Finished the last book of the trilogy last month. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. I haven't played the games , but after watching some gameplay I can say that they did a great job recreating the environment and the atmosphere from the book
it doesn't ignore the book the last book includes bits from exodus as for why the hell they make the game that way idk ... maybe it's because the author of the books also writes their story and as he said it himself sees the games as an alternative route to the books (he was even the one suggesting the moral system and therfore the ''non canon'' endings of metro 2033 and last light). So you know before you ''reeee'' at them for not ''following'' the book (wich the do so idk read the last book ) maybe check who writes the story for the metro games first.
I am very happy that you make these videos, makes the sources that all these creatures come from feel much more grounded in reality. I've ran into the armored Nosalis on my way to D6 in the original copy of Metro 2033 for the 360 without DLC. What I had to do was go through some abandoned mining tunnel where the armored Nosalis would hide in the holes throughout the walls and swipe at me when I got near the walls. Some would crawl out and charge at me but others would stay in the holes. Felt like the cheapest fucking segment I've ever had to go through. Now that segment was replaced in Redux with fighting the spiders after you get separated from Miller and the rest of the Rangers on route to the D6 bunker.
I remember seeing a dark nosali with glowing eyes in the OG metro: 2033 game. Right after you get stuck and separated in a dark room from your crew in search for the D6. I bring this up because it reminds me of the plaited nosali
Dr. Krieger just wait until you reach the beginning of the D6 bunker. I've played through it 3 times and each time that's where I was running out of filters. The first time I ran out totally and had to start from a earlier Level.
Finished it a couple months ago uwu got stuck on this one level and I just kept dying over and over it was frustrating but all the other levels weren’t too difficult, apart from dying every level here and there ^^
THANK YOU! I suggested this video on your last morphology video for metro! I very much enjoy your videos I've been around since your gears videos. Keep up the good work. (Side note. Plated nosalasis was in 2033 for about 3 minutes, it was when artyom and CO go to d6 and he gets trapped under the door, it was then replaced by the spiderbug in the redux)

they sadly cut that from redux :/
Yeah that is pretty sad, but you could get someone that can texture and make mods pretty well and they could make a retexture for it

LMAO sounds like the sort of translation I'd see in a STALKER fan mod.

Hmmm, considering how US-centric Fallout is, now I kind of wonder if Metro could be what's going on in Moscow in the meantime.
