Me too mate, but in my case my ammo was hella low so I just made it run into pillars to damage it and then when I saw there were no more pillars, I started to throw grenades and shoot it with whatever ammo I have left, took a long time to kill it, but was satisfied with the result

Due to the extremely fast mutation in the Metro universe (The creatures change appearance with every game, the female Nosalises in Exodus don't even look anything like the Last Light version, and all these creatures evolved in only 20 years) it's quite possible that she is just a unique mutation rather than a later life stage of the winged variant.
I have to say that the rhino and the she bear are my two favourite creatures from the metro series but all the creatures just because it’s interesting to see these creatures look like they evolved to suit there new environments (even tho it’s just a game it’s still interesting to see how much work they put into these creatures)

Been watching your channel for a while now, really enjoying an in depth look at many of the games I enjoy playing. I tend to stick to games that have their monster, world and tool designs grounded in some kind of plausibility even in outright fantasy as it just makes the games feel more grounded and relatable. Nice to see someone exploring that side of games!
despite how she looks, I think this was the easiest boss fight/enemy in the whole series of metro games, those pillars in the two chambers you "fight" her were so dead giveaway and after you make her run them all down it took just one shot from shambler to finish her.. even the lurkers, I think they are called lurkers, the very small watchmen like creatures are more dangerous than Big Momma.. sadly tho, since I quite like her :)

I'm like 2 years late and no one is going to see this comment, but the Nosalis could have a eusocial nest structure like naked mole rats. The females remain small and sterile until the spot for Queen opens up, when that occurs they start producing "queen hormones" and undergo pretty dramatic changes in their bodies. So instead of Big Momma Rhino being a fully mature adult she's actually the only fertile female in the nest, that underwent serious morphological changes when she became the Alpha, maintaining dominance by slapping the shit out of any of the worker females that start producing these hormones. The real question is, of course, who the fuck stacked all those stone pillars in her arena?

I took this as her being the original Nosalis mutation, with all subsequent being a more "perfected" version but not as large and mutated. If we encounter more in Exodus this'll defeat my theory, but fits with how fast shrews operate and breed with one being the progenitor Edit: could also be that the new "perfected" Nosalis when breeding produce reg males and females, but any Nosalis bred from this one have the chance of the dark/black Nosalis becoming plated, but it would incredibly rare. Her overall structure also fits somewhat to this in that her face resembles a male, but the newer generation of females have a mutated face that is uneven and is likely a result of the new gens growing rapidly in their face and throat regions with the unltrasonic projections
I find it interesting how the male Nosalis seem to throw themselves onto the Rhino Nosalis, not an attempt to attack her, but rather seemingly to protect her. It's like they're giving their lives to serve as extra protection against firearms.
I actually think the reverse is true, and the winged nosalis are the males. Since I work with arthropods instead of vertebrates folks are more familiar with I get to see endless examples of species where the males are almost an afterthought. Many Sternorrhynchan insects produce wings exclusively on males and most only produce them when genetic diversity is required to survive harsh environmental conditions and shortages of food. I would find it quite entertaining to discover that this large female is keeping the others from maturing as she had through some sort of semiochemical or through sheer hyena-like dominance.

The “hooves” of Big Momma seem to be heavily reminiscent of an an African antelope (Forgive me if I don’t remember its name.) that have similar hooves. But unlike its real-life counterpart, Big Momma has a far more... robust build? The shoulder armor is reminiscent of the Javan Rhinoceros, primarily the “shoulder-pads”. ...Sorry, I’m just a nerd who watches BBC documentaries way to much. XD!
There is also the possibility that there is only ever one female Nosali in that form in a pack due to biological self regulation the same way there's certain species of fish that are all female till there is no longer a male and the most dominant female then becomes the new male.

The “hooves” of Big Momma seem to be heavily reminiscent of an an African antelope (Forgive me if I don’t remember its name.) that have similar hooves. But unlike its real-life counterpart, Big Momma has a far more... robust build? The shoulder armor is reminiscent of the Javan Rhinoceros, primarily the “shoulder-pads”.
