Gosh I love an IKEA trip. Friends and family know I am always down to be their IKEA shopping trip Plus One (though I can definitely see how five times in one week might be a bit much 😅) Speaking of friends and family, I'm also proud to say I've also gotten so many of them hooked on your channel; I visit my parents every week for Sunday dinner, and without fail the first question out of my dad's mouth is always "is there new a narrowboat video?"
Not smiled in two days - just life and perspective getting in the way. However… your upload has had me smiling at the storytelling, videography and your outlooks on life. The Tate Modern ref 😂
I used to live in Milton Keynes and think it is such a totally unique city. There is nothing like it anywhere else. I was saddened to see the litter as when I lived in MK it was so neat and tidy everywhere. I love the combination of quaint villages, small towns and the unusual architecture of the newish estates. My office was in Bletchley but I lived in Stantonbury near Linford Wood and the canal. As an American I was delighted with Central Milton Keynes !
Top Croc tip there.. totally with you on the vegetables and countryside. So much of this vlog reminds me why I live so far from retail hells like that one. Great video as always, I love your take on life.
Living the dream in MK how did you manage that. Thought IKEA was in Bletchley next to the football groung and home to Bletchley Park home to the WW2 code breakers.
The analogy to the approach to the Tate Modern was superb! I love your understated, tongue-in-cheek voice-overs. And Matilda is of course an absolute star. Limited screen time but always steels the show!
More brilliantness but my brain can’t compute if we are a year behind or now ? As for the pirate, they do tend to hand around by Aaaargos (said in pirate lingo). Keep safe guys and loved it
New to your channel and absolutely love your vids. Such a nice mix - nature, food, what to read, artsy bits and humour! Would like to see your storage solutions from ikea. 😊
Thanks so much 💕 Do you know, I didn't even film most of what we got that time, it was a load of boxes and baskets and cable management bits. I'll try to point out the best bits in a future video!
You capture the crepuscular light so elegantly. I didn’t know it was possible to make IKEA look and seem more beautiful. I’m adding this scandi sojourn to my bucket list.
Hi Kris love your vid, yes ikea! , visit once a year, did get some great under gunnel shoe cabinets that fit perfect I put shoes, art stuff, knitting bits ( not all together in the drawer 😂) in them and some kitchen wall hanging stuff on my last visit still love ikea but in very small doses, thanks nb bluebelle 😊
Another wonderful video , love the sunset how beautiful …. I really enjoy seeing Matilda loved her running around ……. I bet you are glad to be moored away from the city now ……. I hope you are feeling better Kris 💕…. Look forward to the next video 🍂📖💕🍁
I have to admit that I have never been to IKEA. I think the closest is about 4 hours away. And I doubt they serve a full English Breakfast. I actually thought they just passed out meatballs on a toothpick 😂. Matilda is a star. Love seeing her running around and sitting in the milk crate. Did IKEA ask people to return to the parking lot “immediately “ that the burning car was in ?? The traditional boating clog of your people!“ 😂 Braunston 34. Another great video. Thank you both. 🤗😊 Kathy
Beautiful as always, and this time action-packed! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go start a letter-writing campaign to get our local IKEA to step up their breakfast game. I had no idea what delicacies we were missing out on over in Portugal.
Love following your journey.... I am so in awe of how you have adapted over the year from London life.... You have made it look easy but am sure it hasn't all been plain sailing. Must admit have never been to an IKEA, not quite, sure of the attraction but if I visited am sure I might be hooked😅. 😅😅...... Enjoy your forthcoming travels! 😄
Love your IKEA story! If I go with my husband who doesn’t enjoy fossicking around, I get claustrophobic and cannot get out fast enough. There are secret exit pathways if you know where to look. Great video 💖💖💖🇦🇺
Such a great video, I’m loving watching you document your life on board. I’m taking it all in, in hopes that I’ll be in the same position as you in a few years time 🤞 I was GRIPPING my seat at the IKEA fire 🤣
This was another great show. Sorry you got a cold, you got over pretty quick..loved your pizza, you made. One thing, all the different climates that you are fully outside on boat, your skin is amazing, what do you use Kris ? 😊
That's very kind!! I don't know if it's amazing, but I can try work a skincare tour into a video at some point. I'm mostly quite proud of how minimal my setup is compared to when I was in a house if anything! SPF every day - I like La Roche-Posay and CeraVE (SPF 30 for every day, SPF 50 if I'm going to be actively outside), retinol in the evening. I also really like oils for nighttime, Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a fave. That's about it!
@@krisatomic Thank you so much, kiehls midnight recovery a new one to me. Sp 50s are a go to for me. You look amazing Kris. Stay well and shining bright. Love to you all, really great show. 🍷🍷💗💙🐈⬛🍁🍂
Wow we watch your videos from the South Island of Newzealand IKEA has not come to NZ yet I think we are going to get one in Auckland next year so not long to wait 😂 we love your videos enjoy your coming winter sorry our summer is just starting 😊
It’s not all idyllic villages is it? Nice vlog you two. I was moored recently near Wolverhampton and I enjoyed walking down the main road to the shop, which was odd. It’s all about variety on the cut
Burning cars in an IKEA park weren’t on my personal boating to-do list, but as you say, it’s all about the variety. It’s really weird, isn’t it? Sometimes you crave the city, then sometimes a spot in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully not to sound weird, but just a few weeks ago we were drinking some wine and saying we hope PickingPaul is doing well. When do we get to see your boating adventures on TH-cam?
@andrewkendall ah mate, really? Lol well I'm not as brave as you too, I've got plenty of footage on my phone though. I post on my Instagram and Facebook story clips, you can add me if interested? Paul Barnes
@andrewkendall hi Andrew, really? Well I'm OK, near Stafford and working on srt and writing novels. I want to do a blog but I'm not sure how yo go about it regarding software and stuff, eventhough I've done loads in the past. Hope you two are well? I got to say it's lonely doing this solo, wish I had a g/f to join on my travels. I have learned to do everything solo though, 100s of locks and I got a great technique for solo lift bridges
I just thought that life on the canals would be awesome for me, because it’s such a weird mix of familiarity (the locks, the canal itself, the infrastructure around it) and newness (towns, villages, landscapes, people). I guess this could be so beneficial to my brain which loves routines, yet craves new input. Do you feel that living on a narrowboat has impacted your mental health in positive way, especially when comparing it to life in London? Have people written scientifically about this? I’m just so intrigued by it all… ☺️ Lovely vlog as always, I never miss one. x
If you are thinking that way, from my perspective, I really think this life might be for you. I am exactly the same-I constantly crave new input, but I also exist within a complex array of systems that I have created for myself and for my work. When we moved to the boat, I had one goal: not to downgrade anything about our life that we had before. To my surprise, that was entirely possible and came with a surprising number of benefits that mean I would never want to go back to the way we lived before, even if you paid me. Kris is such a creative person, and both of us thrive on just doing our own thing. Our previous London life really started to impede that. There is so much to talk about here; I can barely get started, but yes, it’s been nothing but beneficial for our mental health. For sure, we’ve had some challenges-Kris, as you’ve seen, had the early days of being totally new to the boat, and for me… my struggles come in content that is still nearly a year behind from these videos… Something we both find so weird is that you can turn up to a new place and feel like you’ll live there forever. Two weeks later, you are bored and will be yearning to move on, but that’s fine because you have your home (and Matilda) moving with you :)
@@andrewkendall Thank you, Andrew, for your answer and perspective, which was so insightful! I’d love to live on a narrowboat for the exact reasons you’ve stated, but it’s not in the cards at the moment (living in Germany with a child in school). I’m obsessed with English villages and towns… one day! Don’t worry with the content, we’re so lucky to watch whatever you put out. Wishing you a lovely weekend! x
My Dad used to pronounce Bletchley as if he was about to be sick. Nothing against Bleughhtchly... just his sense of humour. Now every time I hear it said, I have to say it his way too. Also, I want pizza and it's 9.15am. Great vlog, as ever, and £3.50 for a full English? Maybe I need to go to IKEA... 🤔
So glad you’ve saved me from US election crap videos, I’m Canadian and swear I’m not going to watch them everyday, but then some catchy title sucks me in. Car fire looked like one of those Chinese batteries that explode and refuse to be put out ,they are usually at the front of vehicles. , takes them ages to get it out. I haven’t been to IKEA in years but still have my Billy bookcases from about 40 years ago, they’ve stood up well.👍🏼😂🤣 Happy cruising, love seeing Matilda ( that’s her name right) frolic in the packaging. Half my sitting room decor is presently cardboard boxes of various sizes and shapes with odd holes cut in them, great for flying toys in and out of. 🥰🙋🏼♀️
Love your vlogs and have done from the start…. but will you be catching up with this year at some point? Curious to know how this year has gone and where you are now???
Do you know what the holes in Crocs are for? Its for letting your dignity out ! Enjoyable watch while I ate my home made sweet and sour chicken and rice, For lunch.
What on earth? A narrow boat video about multiple runs to IKEA, flaming IKEA at that and a Christmas meal deal from Tesco's. I mean, what is going on? Glad to see you safely escape....
Your images of the litter in the 'woods' near Ikea are no different to any other part of Milton Keynes that isn't considered a posh area or a new build estate. I live about a couple of miles from where you moored your boat. Don't let your cat roam from the boat. Far too many cats get killed on the roads in MK or dissappear. Our 4 are indoor cats.

I’m all for litter picking and def do my bit around the canal, but I’m not going to rawdog litter in the bushes when I’m on the way to Ikea without gloves or anything. I’m not THAT virtuous!
