- Welcome to another vlog and another day of me being ✨dramatic✨. This time I'm taking our narrowboat down through some locks for the first time. It's a little bit stressful! But the beautiful summer scenery makes it all MORE than worthwhile.
Unrelatedly, this weekend (in real life) is our one year anniversary of living on the boat full time! Can't believe it's been a whole year, that is beyond wild.

Fun fact: there are 3 other narrowboat youtubers boats (that I know of!) in the background of this vlog, if you can spot them all you're probably owed a prize! 🏆
Following the naughty lass is how I came across your wonderful vlog. Do I get 1/3rd of a point for that?
Good skills (I pap my pants on tiller duty so I stick on the locks). Love your content, style and production values … so good skills all round!
Oddly enough I was in n Braunston at that point moored next to the naughty lass. Looking back at those weeks it was the best of the summer.
@@MrIdleknight ditto - I was tied up there too in June next to Robbie. It’s a fab spot, not too many footsteps going past, wonderful view across the fields and easy walk up to the village.
@@michellerowe295 one of my favourite spots spend some time there most years.
Narrowboat Cruising and Lifestyle ie Vince on Aitch
You should make a short of the duck photo shoot with Right Said Fred’s " I’m to sexy " playing in the back ground. But start it with your cat’s meow shot voiced over with the mgm’s lion’s roar. 😂
Always the master of her craft! Perfection as always
😘😘😘
Another effortlessly stylish video. The production quality is simply 1st class! Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks so much! 🥰
Definitely my favourite Narrow Boat crew and vlog 😁.
Just think Kris that there is an ever so grateful shortsighted Lady Pike who can now see thanks to your sacrifice of your glasses lol 😂 ( that conjures up an interesting picture 😳 ).
I wasn’t looking for any other Narrowboaters so ?.
I did offer some advice to BorderReiver the other day though because they were saying about the problems that they faced with Tunnels and going from daylight to pitch black….. pirates ( not the rum wench ) used to wear eye patches not because they had lost a eye but because when they would transition from above decks to below decks their eyes needed a lot of time to adjust to the darkness ( not a good idea on your own boat but when they were pirating and boarding other boats and rushing below deck they needed to be able to see clearly for their sword play )…. As the patch covers one eye it was perfectly suited for night vision ( they would lift the patch below decks ).
Quite simple when you think about it ??.
Love the New Hat,very stylish and suits you perfectly, definitely the most glamorous of narrow boaters.
That Tortoise shell coated cat was absolutely stunning and extremely friendly, I wonder how Muffin reacted when they smelt the other Cat ? Did you get bitten ?.
Another Great Video ❤❤
Well done on the locks ….. your videos are just so beautiful ❤
Thank you so much!
Well this was so worth waiting for. Kris don’t be so hard on yourself you did a great job…don’t forget Andrew grew up doing this. I can only imagine how intimidating it is because if you mess up it’s your whole house!! Yikes! Matilda is looking quite comfortable and brave. Loved the duck that come right aboard and made herself at home. Who knew you were the duck whisperer…or should I say fowl as I remember the lovely swan family that got into joining you for oats. Be well and thank you for sharing. We don’t have narrow boats here in the states so I truly enjoy your lovely videos. Tell Andrew he was every woman’s dream for a moment, a man with a mop! Lol!
Hahah I have passed on the compliment to Andrew. Thanks so much Lisa! 😘
I felt that lock stress. Narrowboat holiday. We didn't move for a full two days... just to avoid the trauma of locks 🤣🤣
Sounds about right!! I've since talked quite a few holidaying boaters through their first locks, because I know the terror haha
Well done that girl.
If you get it a tad wrong and people laugh, just walk up to them take your hat off and say, I also charge for the entertainment any donations greatfully received, thank you.
You're peaceful section was really nice, and so relaxing.
Cool hat by the way.
Cheers Millysue
There were literally no other boats when we did Hillmorton Locks! Thank you for this gorgeous video, and sharing the nerves of your first lock experience. I (Emmie) have been extremely slow at learning to drive the boat. It's taken me pretty much 2 years but I'm getting there at last.
Others have fed the duck, so that is just why it has come to the back of your boat.
crossed the oxford in oxford today and thought of you guys. we are in Stow for 10 day; it’s our thanksgiving holiday at home.
Hope you have a wonderful time! We’re hoping to make it over to Oxford on the boat in the near future ☺️
Great vlog as usual, I can see why you might be anxious doing locks for the first time but like you said, once you do something a few times it becomes easy
You did it! when you said "even hirers do this" I replied "oh no we don't!". I hire from Wigrams & stop short of the locks so next year I'm going to get myself on Helmsman's (Helmswoman's) course so I feel more confident to do the locks solo (mum's with me but her talents don't lie in anything related to NBs (understatement)). Actually, you've really helped me by vlogging these locks in so much detail! Thank you. Also, lovely hat. Everything from Muji is cute! Claire x
Ahh amazing, helmswoman's course is a great shout! We're going to be in that area in upcoming vlogs actually, I loved Napton. Thanks so much for your lovely comment Claire ❤
@@krisatomic it's lovely around there isn't it! Very bendy & a bit scary but I managed to squeeze through moored up & oncoming so I had a cream tea as a reward! :D Take care out there. May see you on the water one day! x
Andrew is such a harsh judge, honestly
I'm calling you Len (Goodmanbad) from here on in my friend...
Seven !!??
Loved the on camera monologuees
& seriously, congrats on 'smashing' your first year without too much damage & illustrating it so captivatingly so....
7 !!!!!!! (10)
Nice video again
a pleasent surprise to watch you while in England.
As per, another great Vlog! Your posts are very stylish and human lead….you both have this understated natural manner that you combine with good camerawork, editing and music!
As I’ve said before…you guys, along with many🥴?on here…. come across with such humbleness, living a wonderful narrowboat lifestyle to be admired…and all told/shared so classily🤗.
Btw….Kris(and as always) you looked lovely in the striped shirt…great look!!
Look forward to more soon enough!
🤗Ben…x.
You are toooo kind, really appreciate your thoughtful comment! 🥰
Hi kris, well done, I haven’t done locks yet, so you certainly made it look easy, something I will be doing soon, I did not spot any other you tubers, but when we were on the Oxford we spotted you and several others, love your vlogs such good quality film and content, great, keep warm Lea 😊
The tortoiseshell cat you met was a girl - the accent colour (black or ginger) is coded in the same place on the X chromosome so a vast majority of cats that have black and ginger simultaneously are female. The exceptions are chimeras where parts of the body happen to be X1Y an and other parts X2Y, or Klinefelter syndrome with XXY, male with a duplicate X chromosome - but both are very rare, one cat in several thousands, usually infertile and often not healthy enough to thrive so stillborn or die at a young age.
That’s so interesting!!
@@krisatomic Cat genetics are fascinating! For example, this explains why female ginger cats are much less common than male - because they need to inherit the ginger gene from both parents, while male cats only need one copy.
The cat was a tortoise shell and, as such was almost certainly a female, as male tortoise shells are as rare as hen's teeth!
Wonderful videos guys thank you
Love your vlogs so nicely done ✔️.
Your right you only know from doing I think your doing great always love your vlogs and yes my cat shout at me as If I never fed him but he was a stray love you both ❤️
All cats are the same 😹 thanks so much!
Now that I've read your comment, I did do a double take when I thought you passed Aslan ...a total ID fail as it looked nothing like it, but I guess I picked up that you were deliberately showing us something, so... a second guess would be passing Róisín again.
Gorgeous coloured tortoiseshell cat (sorry Matilda!)
Love how all the narrowboat YTers in the wider area were casting about randomly like AI characters in a game and then all set off in the same direction ...like you were under some kind of hidden control... #matrix 🤖🤖
I want your hat its just what i need to walk to work, going to be looking for one of them. great vlog x
I wonder if the duck at this point is already signed with a model agency because she killed those headshots!!
Otherwise you can always sell feet pics online.
Love your humour as always and your fashion style!
Hahaha! Thank you 😭😂
I love your spring content, but I can’t help but wonder how autumn is treating you right now. It’s rough out there! 😅 Thanks for a vibey vlog, as always. x
Autumn content dropping in about 6 months probably 😂 We're doing pretty well, warm and cosy on the boat but I really hate the wind!
I would like to rent a narrow boat for a few weeks. Looks fun and a little concerning when it come to the locks. Great video. I glad I found you. I look forward to seeing more videos from your channel.
Thanks so much! A boating holiday is a great idea!
What an absolute delight!
thank you!!
Great video as always. Muffin on deck while you’re moving scares me though. Our (beautiful tortoiseshell) cat isn’t allowed out on the move, since the time she ran down the gunwale and had to be dragged in through the side hatch…..
Oh you’re totally right, she’s only out there with us very occasionally as a treat. We have a system where the non-skipper is responsible for the cat management. She has also made the gunwale dash but only when stationery 😅
As always superb video 👏
Thank you! 😘
Really enjoyed the vlog, gentle and easy.Thank you.
Thank you 🥰
Thanks for another great vlog.
❤️❤️❤️
Lovely film. Great sound.
Thank you! 🥰
My favourite boating channel. High production values. Would love to do a vlog but living on my own in permanent mooring isn’t an interesting angle I don’t think.
Thanks so much, that means a lot! I definitely think you could do a vlog about living on a boat in one place! For a lot of people that's probably the more realistic situation, so I think it's well worth exploring.
@@krisatomic thanks for replying. Ok I will have a think. I have shot some stuff. Will keep shooting.
Good to see you use Fuji’s too.
If you ever come up the Thames to Lechlade please hook up.
Still the most soothing content on youtube. Where are your glorious dungarees from? I feel like I should be able to tell from the label but I can't 🤦♀️
They’re from Monki! They’re still on the site (oversized denim dungaree), in the sale now! Go go go
@@krisatomic thank you!!!!
Kris - I am guilty- guilty of being away on business and not logging in.... forgive me (will catch up on other vids soon). First is more of a statement than a question.. did the duck finally flick thru the proofs and chose a pic? - and if it was a duck did it put the pic on the "web". Funny how you can show ducks feet yet not your own according to the dictate of Gen Z but if you were from the fens the web narrative would likely carry through... That cat with the four lines on its head was exceptional and Hillmorton is one of those places where everything combines, canal, railway, road and motorway(s)... only thing missing is an airfield! Deep diving into the lock flight and worrying about the cafe clientele draws parallel with speaking in public.... most people will be sympathetic as, basically, they would not want to do it themselves. Nice "gliding" into the lock... so maybe that can count as an airfield reference. ---- "the present day me is editing it... hello" --- loved that! The peaceful segment reminded me of those wonderful Eno "ambient" albums of the late 70's /early 80's.... they still bear listening to now. Anyway - this ramble ends here. Take care and now I will spool back to the episodes I missed. All the best to you and Andrew.
💯Great stuff ✧✦✧ Top shelf ❤⚓🖖
Thank you very much 🥰
How beautiful was the gender fluid cat’s fur colour/s?
Simply stunning.
🙂🐿🌈❤️

Female cat, definitely. Male cats are never calico or tortoiseshell. The mix of black and brown is tied to the female genes.
Oh that's right, I completely forgot that! Very good fact!
I do love this channel but the vocal fry is killing me......just can't listen to it anymore
Imagine how I feel listening to it in the edit
Vocal fry? Not too much to my ears. Then again I live in the land of vocal fry combined with valley girl speak! BTW did you know that according to linguists Sean Connery spoke with vocal fry?
@@susanb4481apparently Cumberbatch’s Sherlock too 😂 I’m in great company imo
I love your voice. I find it soothing! Your humour too - duck headsets 😅 ❤
Great video. You definitely have a special water fowl connection. Loved the duck photoshoot. The hat is magnificent!!! Thoughtful gift from your mother. I am shocked that they have not placed the marker where your glasses 👓 fell to their demise 😢. I am so glad you were able to challenge yourself and do a couple locks. You were definitely stressed, and after reading the comment above about “vocal fry” I went back and could hear the stress but not vocal fry aka the “Kardashian” voice. When you are reflecting back on that time later in the video, I don’t hear stress at all. I have frozen vocal cords, which basically means they are constantly vibrating and my vocal fry is low and creaky. I have a speech therapist for it and have heard myself on recordings 😱 I could listen to you all day long. Hang the cord on your hat snug so it doesn’t fly off 😂. Thank you for sharing this.
