Pro golfers separate themselves from amateurs by skillful recoveries from tough lies. You take on challenging projects and have the skill to bring out beautiful products. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Well fought sir. Nice to see you smile and come back to you when you speak of your son 😊
Thank you kindly!
A true craftsman is someone who can adjust and “fix” the problem. You are a craftsman. Thanks
Thanks 🙏
This is one of those times where go big or go home comes to mind 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks 🙏🏻
Problem solver, mishaps, goofs, fixer, work around, pride WoodTurner!! Another beautiful piece. Thank you
Thanks 🙏
I like that you care about it being right more than being ok. That's the difference to me that you are a real artisans and only a turner for the money only. Thanks again!!
Thanks 🙏
Mysteries - but you get to the bottom of the and don't give up - what problem?
It's a beauty and I see your owl
My husband and I love to watch you ,we love the colors, one night we watch you from 6 pm until 2 in the morning.
Wow, thanks!
That is an awesome hollow forum. Being challenged is something we always have in life!
Certainly! Thanks for watching
I see the eyes, but when I first saw the thumbnail, I thought of Van Gogh's Starry Night. This is beautiful!
Thanks 😊
A master artist is the one that can come back from problems and make something beautiful and you are a master.
Humbled! Thanks 🙏
I admire your "stick to it" attitude. Look forward to next project.
Thanks 😊
Hi Jim, one of the great values of your presentations is in sharing your problems and solutions. I always learn one or two new "ways of doing cuts, finishes, corrections and so on" It also helps knowing how long it takes you with your experience to make such a nice bowl. I am not an experienced turner and I guess for the time being I can of believe that whatever my intentions, the wood has the last word !
Thanks !
With practice, you’ll get there! Thanks 🙏
Been turning for over 30 years. After a hiatus for health reasons I'm taking in a lot of TH-cam vids as I retool my machines for 3 PH 240V - VFD. The current rage seems to be incorporation of epoxy resin. When weighing the nasty mess vs the finished reward I see the most beautiful part of your hard work is viewed looking down at the mouth of the bowl. After doing a lot of "ooing", "Ahhing" and "Damn, that's beautiful!". I recalled an old discussion we had at our Palm Beach County Wood Turners Association meeting. The question was .."What brought each of us to wood turning?". The results clearly indicated that you'd be hard pressed to find a Wood Turner that wasn't a Wood Worker first. On the other hand finding a Wood Worker who was first a Wood Turner is as rare s Hens teeth. What was it about wood turning that drew each of us varied but there were common points that attracted all of us. Short of being gifted a lathe these are the lures...
(1) Wood Turners rarely work with Big Box dimensioned lumber.
(2) Because of item (1) turning stock is usually obtained free of charge.
(3) The stock that turners use would most probably be considered too small or short to be
milled for furniture or cabinetry. Thus destined for the firewood pile, composite lumber,
or Pulp Mill. The vast majority of turning stock is obtained from yard trees.
(4) Because of item (3) turners will work with wood species that has little or no commercial
market.
(5) The most interesting and beautiful grain found in tree growth is also the most unstable or
unusable for use in other wood working disciplines.
(6) Wood Turners take a step back in history every time they crank up the lathe. Despite the
modern technology found in today's wood shop a turner requires very little of it.
(7) It's a personal opinion but I feel a Wood Turner is a (none power) Hand Tool Wood Worker.
The only thing the lathe does is rotate the stock. Those are hand tools we're cutting and
shaping with. That gouge or skew chisel is held in my hand. For me it where I find the
greatest satisfaction.
Thanks for helping me make a decision.
Wakodahatchee Chris
I would agree with every statement above. I did woodworking first as well. What really drew me to the lathe was my wife’s uncle. He was a turner and the first time I seen him turn a bowl I was hooked. To take a raw piece of wood and shape it into a useful item in mean minutes was very gratifying to watch. At the time I was a Military mechanic and you would get satisfaction out of working on equipment that was broke but it wasn’t the same as creating something from start to finish.
I never ever envisioned working with epoxy but now I can’t ever think of not working with it, the colors and the thing’s that can be saved and enhance by it are some of the most beautiful work I’ve every done! Thanks 🙏
I am sure many would have given up, But you once again endured the storm and came out with something fantastic!
It’s a very unique piece! Thanks
How frustrating to have to go back and revisit the same problem several times. But you stuck with it, so well done! Glad you like Jimmy’s (D-Way) system for us southpaws. I’ll let him know about your good words! He is in our turning club.
That would be great! Thanks 😊
I can see the owl but I can also see two beautiful mountain landscapes either side of it. 👍
You are right! Thanks
I love that you never hide your mishaps or screwups, and how you adapt and recover. Then you turn out a beautiful piece. The end result must be all the more satisfying. Well done yet again.
Thanks! Had too much time in it to quite, lol.
I give credit when credits due.
Hi Jim. I know it fought you all the way, but the result is a victory for you. It is beautiful
Thanks 🙏
I apreciate the fact that you explain what you are doing as well as dealing with all that you encounter 👍

The figure in the wood is fantastic. The resin brings that figure out good
Thanks 🙏
Amazing how you can have mishaps like that and you just calmly explain and show how you fix it and everything still looks awesome! Beautiful piece!
Thank you so much 😀
It is awesome Jim, if even for the fact you battled all that stored tension; you just took the words out of my mouth as I type this. You're teaching me over here!
With all those numbers in motion, you still managed an amazing piece with a ton of detail; the resin band running up and down the center third, with all that amazing grain..
Thanks Jim
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning I did, but appreciate would be more appropriate; your effort and ethic are part of the piece too.
I saw that owl right away, so happy you could keep it!

Thank you very much!
Always excited on Fridays. Another great video problems and all. Thanks for sharing the challenges, it helps us weekend warriors. Didn’t know about the 6 month shelf life of resin. I need to rethink my project order before goes bad.
That’s a general rule of thumb. Thanks 🙏🏻
WOW WOW WOW! This an exquisite piece of art! The figures in wood and the resin are never ending. I see a mythical sea creature at 49:30, and an autumn forest in the mists on the other side of the vessel. I wish I could study it from all sides.
I can’t imagine why anyone would give video a thumbs down (???) 🧐🥺
Haters are going to hate, lol. Thanks K
Brilliant use of air pressure to release the mould. Beautiful work as usual!
It’s very effective! Thanks
Jim even with all the hiccups that turned out just Beautiful! Love the eyes peeping out at you.
Glad you like them! Thanks
Wow Jim, that is an amazing piece, that would and the resin, I seen more aztic in the eyes than anything. The time a artist spend with a piece to see the perfection we get to see in the end as a consummer at a fair or were ever (before Covid). I love to see the attention you take in your projects. Thank you
Thank you very much!
Another killer piece Jim.

Jim, that really is a spectacular piece no ? about it!! It's a real shame that it kept separating on you, hopefully you can figure out why that is. I can see more of this style in the future.
Never give up, keep turning (as I know you will ) and I can't wait to see what's next
I will certainly do more of theses down the road, thanks 🙏
I love watching you work I never have tried wood work I love resin but I would love to put some wood into my epoxy pieces ❤ also I sometimes use ur videos to go to sleep your voice always seems to help relax me 😊 that owl features was awesome
Thank you so much!
Like always Jim, fantastic bowl you made. And that you never give up trying to fix the problem with cracking is good. You say it is the tension that makes the wood move even it is dry. I totaly agree about that.
Hope you give an update about the bowl after it has been sitting for a while.
Take care and looking forward for you next video tomorrow.
Best Regards
Hans Olav
I certainly will, thanks

Another beautiful piece! I watch you because you make amazing pieces but if you just showed the painless pieces, I personally wouldn’t learn much and seeing how you overcome big and small issues helps me think differently as I learn your craft. Thanks again
Great, thanks for watching!
Another beautiful piece, nice to see you didn’t let it get the better of you. You plowed through the inconvenient delaminating like the seasoned pro that you are.
Thanks 🙏
Wow the best one yet!
Thanks 😊
Simply put I love it. Thanks 😁
Thanks 😊
What a beautiful piece. It’s not everyday that you get to turn two amazing pieces of crotch-grain walnut, at the same time. Great work, and great teaching.
Thank you very much!
Great work! Sorry about the challenge you’ve encountered, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger ☺️
Agreed, thanks!
