    Superb rendition! I could "hear" the 64' with my headphones. The tune is used for "America" (My Country 'Tis of Thee), but I love the Queen, too. A British subject who was a member of my church passed away about 20 years ago and I played this tune as his casket was recessed out of the sanctuary. His British family and friends thanked me for the honor, and the rest of the congregation may have thought he was an American patriot; in any case everyone stood at solemn attention. Two birds, one stone.

    • @virilitas
      @virilitas ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The tune used is known as “America” in the United States and “National Anthem” in the UK. The words “My Country Tis of Thee” and “God Save the King/Queen”came after the tune. The tune dates from as 1619 or earlier in England. It was published in current form in 1744 in London. It’s hardly an American tune. Several countries have used it for royal anthems - Norway still uses it. It’s the de facto anthem of the UK (but has no legal standing).

    God save the king:
    Send his victorious,
    Happy and glorious,
    Long to reign over us:
    God save the king.

    Scatter his enemies,
    And make them fall:
    Confound their politics,
    Frustrate their knavish tricks,
    On Thee our hopes we fix:
    God save us all.
    Thy choicest gifts in store,

      A little over 50% of the organ is operational when I played it. The full great, swell, Choir, solo, and pedal were almost fully functional, and string 1 was also functional. The big gallery reeds were also functional but not the gallery divisions. 8 of the 32’ stops were working. The contra trombone and contra violone weren’t but the 64’ was also functional! And it was amazing!! The 16’ Grand Ophicleide and the 50” Major Posaune weren’t functioning sadly. But they’ll be back soon! I’m also heading back up to the organ this summer so I’m gonna play it again when I get there!

Oh, and the big chest at the top of the right chamber, don't remember the stop, should also be up. Lots to looks forward to indeed.

    I second Joe on this one; Wonderful Playing.
    This anthem was also used as the Prussian National Anthem in 1795. It was then reused as the Imperial German Anthem of a unified Germany in 1871 which was used until 1918 under the name "Heil dir im Siegerkranz." Although it was used as the Official Anthem, it was not widely accepted by the German states; most Notably Bavaria and Wurtemburg did not officially accept the anthem. This song was discontinued after the abolition of the German Monarchy and Aristocracy following the Great War and replaced with the "Deutcheslandlied" or German Song which is the official anthem of Germany to this day; based on a tune of Franz Joseph Haydn which originally was composed as a Birthday Anthem to the Hapsburg Emperor of Francis II and later as the Austrian National Anthem until 1918. Interestingly today only the Third and Final Stanza of the German rendition of the song is used as the official anthem of Germany. During the years of the Wiemar republic, all three stanzas were used until Hitler gained power. After that, only the first stanza was used followed by the Nazi Party Anthem called the "Horst Wessel Lied." After the War, East Germany Adopted "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" or Risen from the Ruins wishing for a united Germany under Communist rule (Though the lyrics of that song were altered to omit the language after it became clear that it wasn't going to happen) while West Germany Continued using the Same Wiemar Era Anthem after much debate for years after World War II. Due to the association of the first stanza with the Nazi Party, it was decided that only the third stanza was acceptable to be retained. While there is no express legal ban on the first and second stanzas, It is considered Taboo in Germany to sing those stanzas in public.

      You are right. England has no official anthem. It is not a sovereign state so there is no imperative to have one.
      The United Kingdom does not have an official anthem either, at least not one mandated by law. "God save the King" has been used by custom on national occasions and events since the mid-1740s, ahead of any other country, not least because the evidence points to it being an English tune of the early 17th century to words in support of the Stuart monarchs, James I and II. The British words to go with this tune are also the oldest. All other versions came later, including the French and Prussian ones. Beethoven uses the tune to represent the British in "Wellington's Victory" written to depict the Battle of Victoria in 1813 during the Napoleonic Wars, in full knowledge that his audience would recognise this as a British tune and would not mistake it for one signifying Prussia, France, Denmark or even the USA. I have a feeling that the Union Flag of the UK is also not "official" and the UK is the only country in the world not to put its name on its postage stamps: it didn't need to as postage stamps were invented in the UK when no one else had them.

    Of thee I sing;
    Land where my fathers died,
    Land of the pilgrims' pride,
    From ev'ry mountainside
    Let freedom ring!
    My native country, thee,
    Land of the noble free,
    Thy name I love;
    I love thy rocks and rills,
    Thy woods and templed hills;
    My heart with rapture thrills,
    Like that above.
    Let music swell the breeze,
    And ring from all the trees
    Sweet freedom's song;
    Let mortal tongues awake;
    Let all that breathe partake;
    Let rocks their silence break,
    The sound prolong.
    Our fathers' God to Thee,
    Author of liberty,
    To Thee we sing.
    Long may our land be bright,
    With freedom's holy light,
    Protect us by Thy might,
