I have been trying to get my wife to pay attention to home security. After watching this video she has been an active research partner for our home security kit. Thank you for providing tons of details that may not be super noticeable on RING's website.
The thoroughness of your videos are refreshing. My wife and I are considering a home security system and your reviews have been phenomenal. Thank you and have a sub and a like!
I installed a Ring system in my house. So far I like it. The motion detectors don't trip like the ADT ones did. We have dogs and cats and they would set the ADT MD off constantly. The Ring app is easy to use and the system has functioned flawlessly so far.
You are awesome. Thank you! It may be cool to point out the fact the “5” on the tactile keypad is depressed rather than raised, similarly to a keyboard/adding machine keypad to indicate the center of the numbers. Super useful in stressful or obstructed (smoke) direct view of the keypad.
Awesome video! All in all it’s an awesome system for security. A couple things I discovered with this system that the motion detector will detect medium size dogs (I.e 50lbs or higher) even on the lowest setting. I tested this with my dog and left all motion alerts on for a week and there were definite times when he was detected. Another bit that I didn’t like but may not bother others is that for the camera it’s a pretty binary setup. You can either record motion or not. And if you don’t have record motion on it does not record any video at all. What I REALLY wanted was the ability to have the camera there, and only have record motion on when the ring alarm was in a particular mode, I.e home and away. For example when armed in home mode I wouldn’t mind the camera recording motion. And in away mode I would configure it to alert on motion as well. The ability to create a custom mode as well even just one would be awesome. As being a dog owner, sometimes we leave the dog in the kennel, and when we do that we leave the tv on so he doesn’t bark at everything outside. Having a custom mode that would allow me to set the ring to react as if in home mode but without turning on the camera recording unless the alarm was triggered would be awesome. Unfortunately I didn’t find that possible with the ring. In general a setting that would configure the camera to start recording only when the alarm was tripped would be ideal. Another bit that was disappointing is that there is no way to setup the alarm to arm at a given time or via geo fencing. Currently as it stands August lock isn’t supported, but will be in the future. This is probably where the mobile app gets negative reviews. Now aside from that IF you are a SmartThings user, there are ways (not supported) to integrate ring into SmartThings to gain some of these features like geo fencing and scheduled arming. Because of this and seeing that the open source community is building tools to do such things makes this product more interesting. However like all things unsupported the question is how long will this last? Do I really need geo fencing, no. Do I really need the ability to arm the house at a certain time.. probably not. Is it possibly via Alexa? Not that I’ve found. Last bit I wanna mention here is that ring does currently support a third party smoke and co2 detector from first alert, and will respond the fire department (confirmed by accident). They also make their own flood and freeze detectors as well as smoke detector. There currently isn’t a break glass detector like SimpliSafe. For the alarm you do have delayed entry configurations for different modes as well. Phew long user review. All in all I give it 4/5, the ability to get to the api (securely mind you) with smart things is a plus, it’s simplicity is excellent. I just hope they add a few more necessary features, I.e geo fencing for arming only (not disarming), scheduled arming, a custom mode, and the ability to only record on alarm trigger would really make this system much better.
I had heard recently that Amazon echos and Alexa devices have a way of detecting broken glass and movement, but I do not know if it's integrated with the Ring security system. Seems like it will most likely be in the future.
Nice review. Thanks. There are just two things I wish you would have mentioned... 1. While talking about the sensors, I wish you would have mentioned what batteries they use and how long they last, or at least how long they are suppose to last. According to ring, the cr123a batteries will last 2 - 3 years. After a quick google search, most people report between 6 - 12 month. : ) Also, cr123a batteries come in rechargeable as well. 2. You went through the app and there was a "Neighbors" tab. I wish you would have talked about it a little bit more, and pointed out what exactly the Neighbor tab does. It turns out, it is a pretty cool feature. The app allows you to see camera feeds, of people near you, which decided to "share" their camera feed! You can also setup an are or "fence" around your house and get notification about crimes happening in that area, including live feeds of those cameras. Well, something like that, ha ha . I just researched it a little bit. That said. Your review was great and "convinced" me to go and give this system a try. I am using currently the Samsung smart hub system and I do not like it...Thanks.
Fair enough!! I also do written reviews that are more detailed but definitely did not talk about the Neighbors tab much- bit.ly/2NKQjUK Hope you like Ring more than Samsung!
Great job on this overview/explanation on all the various components in the Ring Security kit. Straightforward, no extra techie BS, just straight talk and explanations. Thanks! G
Hi Zaid, Glad you're enjoying! Unfortunately I never test any life safety equipment, just the regular security components, but I do write about them in my written reviews: securitybaron.com/system-reviews/ring-alarm-review/ - Gabe
Great review. My recommendation is Ring should have vibration sensors for windows as people are likely to try and break through windows rather than slide the windows open. Also, sound detectors for areas with many windows so sensors aren’t needed for each window. These two things are things ADT offered that I wish Ring would offer. With that, my security system would be complete.
Hi Alex, I totally agree that Ring should have a glass break sensor, and the company says that's in the works. However, if someone broke the glass on a window, the motion detectors would also pick up on that. For more info, see my written review of Ring Alarm here- bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Vibration sensors are bad, to sensitive, home alarm Industries moved away from vibration shock sensors on Windows because dog barking and other outside influences can set them off. also know if someone comes in your house they have to get out they're going to open the door. 95% of all home alarms that go off or false alarms due to faulty sensors or something's too sensitive. check with your local police for data. A hint is put a a door sensor on an inside door that you don't open so if someone's in your house they're going to open all your doors and if that sensor trips you know that it's not a false alarm.
I added the ring fire alarm listener. It ties your existing fire alarms to the security system so you don't have to replace them to work with the system. Looking to get the water sensors next.
Thanks a bunch!! Love your videos. Quick questions: 1. What are your thoughts on a prior comment from a subscriber who stated that the alarm isn't that loud and neither are the door and window indicators? Do you agree/disagree? 2. Do you just get protection for one door and one window? I have a back door that I would like covered, is that extra? 3. Is there a camera for the outside of the house as opposed to the inside??
No problem! 1. The base station has a max decibel level of 104, which is about as loud as a table saw (so pretty loud). The sensors will not sound off themselves, but will notify the base station to sound. I think it's definitely loud enough on its own, but keep in mind you'll also receive a mobile notification. 2. One Ring Basic plan covers one Ring Doorbell or Security Camera. If you want a plan that covers all the Ring devices in your home, you'll need to do the Ring Protect Plus Plan for $10 a month, which includes 24/7 professional monitoring. 3. Ring does have an outdoor camera, the Stick Up Cam Battery- I'm going to be reviewing this soon. For more detailed information, check out my written review of Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Just found you yesterday! Love your videos! They are professionally done, clean shot of your studio, you communicate well, very informative, and great topics. I only have one ask ... Any chance you could mute out the word Alexa? My Echos all start tripping out every time you say it. I know I can mute them, but when binging on YT videos I’ll forget to unmute and have to run back and forth if I’m doing YT in and out during the day. Anyway, I’ve noticed others start to do that and it’s very helpful. Thanks for the consideration and keep up the great work! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Tony, Thanks so much and glad you're enjoying! I can't mute out the word Alexa because I want people to know what I'm talking about, but there are captions on all my videos so I recommend muting your computer and reading the captions instead. Another option is to read my written reviews instead of watching my videos. Here's my review for Ring: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Security Baron Ah OK, most others drop down the volume for the word Alexa and Print the word in the screen. I watch TH-cam on my Fire TV or Apple TV in different rooms, not my computer. But I get it if you prefer not to do so. I appreciate the consideration and reply though. Have a terrific day!
Thanks for the review. I have two questions. 1. what if someone breaks the window, but doesn't open it. will the window sensor register that and sound? Also, what if someone just cuts your internet cable cord before entering. Won't that just disarm the entire system? thank you so much. Your review was really thorough... just had a few lingering questions.
No problem! Ring doesn't offer a glassbreak sensor but the motion sensor will detect if someone breaks the window. If you chose to pay for cellular backup, then your system won't depend on Wi-Fi. See the written review for more info: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
I have this system and I have a month on this guy. He didn't quite give the whole story. The speaker isn't that loud on the base station. Even bumping up the volume all the way a room and a half away and you probably will have a hard time hearing the alarm chimes. ...or one room with the TV on. The system itself is ok but having had multiple systems I can tell you that a few features that SHOULD be included are not (and I have no idea if there is a roadmap or list of upcoming features). For one you have three options to setup your home: Away, home & armed, and disarmed. When you set your alarm for away you get a 30 second window to leave before it sets. With the home & armed however you do not, it arms automatically. For me (and I'm sure many others) this is an issue because I leave for work at 5:15am. I do not want to set it to away because the motion sensor will go off if one of my kids gets up etc. In a traditional alarm setup you can set the "home & away" option and it will give you the 30 second window to exit also, Ring does not have this. So instead I have to exit the house and then use the phone app to arm the alarm once I am outside. This is very annoying. Also there is no "chirp bypass" option. Another example is with a traditional alarm I can press * before setting an action and the system will know to "silently" do this (again late at night or early morning to not wake others up). There is no option like that with Ring. The base station, that from before you learned is turned all the way up to be able to hear during normal household active time, will now be blaring while everyone is sleeping and no extra noise is happening. The noise for the "countdown before alarm goes off" is very VERY low. The volume is all the way up but the "noise" that it makes is not one that cuts through. So if someone were to come in a normal door in the night you might actually not hear that pre-alarm going off. The silly part about the noises and chirps etc. is that Ring should have the same noises come from the keypad. When you press buttons on the keypad and arm/disarm the system it will play the same "Home And Armed" voice as well as beep when you press buttons but the sensor "chirp" does not come out of there nor does the pre-alarm sound. The last thing I will bring up because nobody will read all of this anyway is the Z-Wave functionality. Yes, the base station is a z-wave base station also and yes you can connect z-wave things to your system... they just will not work either 1) easily or 2) the way you want them to. Ring does not have broken glass/sound sensors. I believe they finally have the option for fire and flood but this was not the case until a month ago (March/April-ish). If you were to purchase z-wave compatible devices for security or for say fire great. You can add them to your ring system (that's how you add the devices, if there is another way I do not know it) but they will not actually trigger anything. So nothing will happen if you have a glass shatter alarm device, it will not send anything to ring, they will not respond etc. Also the amount of screens you would need to dig down to find a device you add (say like a light switch) would not be worth it. I'm also not sure at that point in time how the connectivity to Alexa with ones that do would work. This is why I need a youtube channel and make content so I can have someone send me one to try it out lol.
Thank you for your input. These are the day to day details I was trying to research. Can you please elaborate? Will a paired Fire alarm , be responded to by the monitoring team, or at least a prompt to your phone? Also, is there any sort of panic button or alarm on this system?
@@beretta2211 Ok so to answer some of these in the best I can. The caveat with RING is that if it isn't a "supported device" which basically means, download the app and make a free throw away account and do an "add device". If it isn't on the menu then sure you can add it as a Z-Wave or whatever it is device but RING will not interact with it as far as monitoring or alarm goes. The good news is that they are adding more so if you purchase the official ones (again load up the app etc.) then yes they will alert the same as with the alarm. Also, I have to note that Alexa will now bridge some of that gap for you. They just (literally less than a week ago) updated the Alexa app and if you have an Alexa device you can now use it in conjunction with your RING setup and it will monitor NOISE and alert for you. So it will monitor for the sound of breaking glass as well as smoke detectors (ones that you already have) and it will alert/trigger etc. based on the settings you tell it. Obviously the coverage for that will depend on how well it can hear the area etc. and yes if you have multiple ones throughout your house then you will have better coverage. Technically speaking as well you may be able to use the video cameras to alert/monitor areas of your home as they should trigger with motion and you SHOULD be able to set the sensitivity low enough that lots of smoke or flames would trigger but that's way more risky and not worth trying. Everything in the system prompts your phone. So triggers, arms, disarms etc. are sent to your device(s) that are allowed to talk to your system and logged in and of course there are always the settings you can change/choose both in the system as well as the phone/device. What I mean by that is you can turn off like a window you often leave open to not trigger if you have "disarm" set so it does not chime/alert (which by default chimes during "disarm" mode do not alert but you can change) etc. Also you can turn off/on all the notification settings in iOS or AndroidOS etc. there as well. Panic Button... I'm going to say yes and no. Traditional systems have dedicated buttons that you can see a FD or PD icon labeled button that you can either usually press or double press to alert... Ring has no dedicated buttons but there is a button combo on the keypads that you can press to do the same. They also sell one for $35 that is dedicated you can put somewhere in your home like a safe room in case someone is between you and your keypad. Remember all the pieces are wireless and you can add X devices so you can have a keypad in every room that is wireless. I looked up the panic alert sequence on the keypad and you press and hold the "X" and "Check" (basically instead of a * and # they have a check and X on the buttons next to the 0 on the keypad. You hold those down and it will panic the system. I do not know if there is a panic option on the app. I just looked but not too deeply. There SHOULD be but I'm not sure. Sorry this is long winded. I just know how these videos from youtubers who are getting free product that they aren't really "using" and instead making $$ off of these. I'm more than happy to answer questions
That helps a ton! Thanks. Been researching systems for a while. I’m not scared to pay more for a better system, but Ring looks like one of the best wireless solutions. The Abode is the only other system that can compare it seems. I’m not sure what it is that i don’t like about the abode but i am leaning towards the ring. If you have any experience with the abode that would be helpful or If You feel like you can recommend the ring after living with it. I’m sure every system has its places it can improve. The abode just feels like it’s More costly , without being much better. Again not scared to pay more but geofence and smart home compatibility is not important for me so how an I justify. I’m more worried about the basic day to day function and reliability of the app, alarm and response from the company , and equipment if that makes sense. Thanks brother.
@@francescap2340 I don't want you to get the wrong idea. I only have experience with maybe 5 alarm systems throughout my life and can only compare based off that. I know what my case use purchase was for and this seems to be able to do the work. Yes I think they need to have some additional units to make more "noise" when needed and of course have some better options to supress when needed because those are critical. You simply cannot beat the price for the monitoring service and it's the top tier service they offer which means that if you add on any cameras etc. they are already on that tier you are paying for. Not only that but I did the pricing and you start to save over other companies very quickly. It was a couple of years back before all the doorbells got popular but one of the big boys was selling a "camera" with their setup. It cost above and beyond a pretty penny and it wasn't even real live video but pictures that you had to pay extra to actually get. I think right now I'm happy. I have inherited a gen 1 ring doorbell i'm going to install which will extend. Plus they just updated Alexa app and so now alexa devices can monitor SOUNDS for fire alarms (not in your system) as well as glass breaks (RING has no sensors for that officially yet) and it will alert etc. So they are finding ways to fill gaps.
Excellent & thorough review. Does the stick-up cam stop working after 60 seconds? That's what they told me. I wouldn't want it to stop in the middle of a break-in.
I already have cloud and dvr cameras. ARLO cameras have absolutely free cloud storage. I love it. I also have DVR cameras (wired). The advantage of cloud storage is that it's impossible for burglars to destroy. I BELIEVE RING camera cost is $3 a month *per camera* for storage. Arlo has no cost for cloud storage.
Yes, cellular backup ensures that your system will stay on in the event of a power outage. You don't need another device aside from the base station, you'll just need to pay for the plan. See the written review for more detailed info about your options: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
@@SecurityDotOrg My rental property does not have any internet source. Will this system work? Can it operate 24/7 on the cellular network? Assuming I don't want the camera.
Nice video Gabe! Is it possible to use other manufacturer's camera (I want one with local storage option) with the ring alarm security system and still get automations, ie. Start recording if the door sensor is activated.
Hi Security Baron, Love your video! Ideas for your next video on RING security system: viewers like me might be interested in comparing the top brands to help me make a buying decision. Also how to install them...or even maintain them...like a long term review point of view....what happens after the batteries run out on keypad or the sensors...can owner replace the rechargeable batteries or one would need to buy a brand new sensors, etc.. Hope u can answer the question on the battery inside the sensors....oh there is a video out there that shows how to do a permanent wired hookup to key pad if one has a set of low voltage wire in the wall already....but it doesn't show what happens to the other end of the low voltage wire :-(. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
Hi Marky, Love your ideas! More comparisons are coming, as well as more specific information about each system. The battery life of the Ring keypad should last about 6-10 months, and you'll just need to recharge it- no need to replace the whole battery. The batteries for your contact sensors can last up to 3 years and with that, you will need to replace the battery. For more information, check out our full written review: securitybaron.com/system-reviews/ring-alarm-review/#What8217s_Included_in_a_Ring_Alarm_Security_System Thanks for watching! - Gabe
I really enjoy your reviews, ... thank you for putting in the work. Though I am a bit confused, in the description you say that Ring now supports Google Assistant as well as Alexa, but in the video you say no support for Google Assistant.. So, the question is, does Ring support google assistant? Thanks
It does! TH-cam doesn't let you edit videos once they're up so I put all edits in the descriptions and in my written review of Ring Alarm: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Security Baron: I just want to say thank you very much for producing and sharing these excellent videos! Tonight is the first night I found your channel. I subscribed and watched four of your recent reviews about SimpliSafe, Vivint, Nest, and Ring. I also browsed your website. Thanks to your very informative and entertaining videos, I decided my best solution will be Ring. I have one question at this time. I see that Amazon is offering the Ring Alarm Security Kit with or without a free Echo Dot (3rd Gen). I'm not sure if I will use the Echo Dot or not (security concerns) but, if I get it, will I have to install in order to use the Ring Alarm Security Kit? Thanks in advance.
Great video, I appreciate the information. What are your thoughts about the danger of having the video hacked into? That’s what my husband is most concerned about and I am too. He’s leaning towards cctv but it’s so much more work. :(
Ideas for your next video: can you provide an review on other RING related accessories such as their siren ...can it be placed outdoor perhaps under a porch/ soffit? Or their fire detection alarm? Or how does one use Amzn Echo DOT 3gen to "communicate" back to intruder at home once alarm is triggered ...or using EchoDot to play a siren song track from iPhone playlist (idea is to send a real time message from smart phone to warn intruder to leave). Hope to see your review on the suggested topic soon. ;-)
1st off, great review. I also watched the video for the SimpliSafe system as well. So, I’ve been doing some research on DIY securities systems, and the top two that I like are Ring and SimpliSafe. Now it’s decision time. I already have a ring doorbell pro. So I guess you can say I’m leaning towards that particular system. Based on your hands on review, which would you say is the better of the two?
I really think it depends on what you're looking for, but considering you already have the Ring Video Doorbell Pro, it would probably make sense to go with Ring so that you can deal with everything in one app. I actually did a comparison of SimpliSafe vs. Ring that I think could be helpful: bit.ly/2D2Mq9n In general, Ring is more affordable than SimpliSafe in terms of professional monitoring and equipment. You can also skip a paid plan and still use the app, which is not the case with SimpliSafe. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Security Baron thanks for your response. Yeah I think I’ll go with ring. Oddly enough I checked out your side by side comparison of ring and Simplisafe this morning. Thanks again. Continued success.
Ring's sensors are pet-sensitive so you can adjust them to not pick up pets under 30 or 50 pounds; you don't want to delay your motion response for humans that long! More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Great Review indeed, question, is this system compatible with the Wyze video cam? Today and tomorrow is prime day and price is right for this system now....
Hi Wayne, Ring and Wyze don't work together, so you'd need to control them through two separate apps. Get the best offers for each here: Ring Alarm: bit.ly/2UpPNRD Wyze Cam V2: bit.ly/2TSdCgP
Thanks to this review and several others by @t. I went with Ring home security system. To me its the best value for the money. Ring is the cheapest system to buy, Its very simple to set up. Even for a non computer savvy person like me, and what I like about Ring better than its closest competitors such as Simplisafe and Cove is that Ring is the only one that doesn't charge you extra OR make you buy into the more expensive monitoring plans than they advertise to lure customers in just to get access to your doorbell footage. And with Ring you can expand and add as many extra cameras as you like and nothing changes with price. This is just not true with any other security system. Also with ring You have the option to self monitor if you want but the only reason I was even considering self monitoring was the high cost of many of these companies monitoring plans. Ring's $10 a month plan is a bargain compared to every other company out there and its no contract. So I went with it. I hate contracts that lock you into spending with a company. If a product is good and worth it then you don't need to force your customers into contracts to keep their business . Ok so ring doesn't have a fancy keypad that looks like a computer screen but who cares All that is for is to show everyone you have a security system. They don't have key fobs either but considering that everyone has a cell phone and the system is controlled through your phone, you don't really need an extra key fob to add to your key ring. I almost went with Simplisafe because a neighbor has it and he showed it to me and I was sold on every aspect of Simplisafe except one. Simplisafe offers a $15 a month monitored plan but what they try to hide from people is that in order to get full access to your security system you have to pay $25 a month So that axed Simplisafe and I found out Cove dose the same thing. SO for me, Now that I have the Ring system installed and I did it myself I am happy with it. I did opt for the $10 a month fully monitored plan and they give you a 7 day practice period before the system goes live and I tripped it by accident a few times and was immediately called by Ring to see if everything was OK. Also compared to my friends security system from ADT that he has a 5 year contract with and pays $65 a month for monitoring, it works pretty much the same way the ADT system works. Ring's system also has the chimes that go off even when the system is unarmed so when you are home and a door or window is opened the system sounds through the whole house just like all the big expensive companies offer. So for me, for the money in initial cost, and the optional monthly monitoring, Ring is the best system out there and no one else can touch them.
Great video, I plan on purchasing the ring home security system via there ring white, they have a 14 piece system. I have purchased the ring doorbell pro, chime pro and flood light and will be purchasing there stick up cam for indoor use. Besides the doorbell cam and floodlight cam I also have 3 cameras by Sens8. I think there security cams are great as well as besides having 1080p 95+ db siren and spotlight as long as you halve either a dropbox or google drive acct you can add them to your sens8 cam for video cloud backup for free! Can you do a video on the Sense8 outdoor cam & indoor? Again appreciate your professionalism in your videos. Keep moving forward brother.
Hello, Glad you like the video! Unfortunately as of now we have no plans to review the Sense8 cameras but I'll let you know if anything changes. - Gabe
Not by voice, but you can adjust the different chimes tones by sensor, so I have my front door nd garage entry door on a different chime sound than the windows and my other doors. Also you can enable notifications per individual sensor in the app to tell you when a particular sensor has opened or closed.
I just bought this pkg so thank you for the review! I'm trying to decide which camera to add. Will any of thr ring cameras send alerts for audio, ie. if my dog barks, can the camera notify me?
The cameras notify you based on motion, not sound. So your dog barking will probably give you a motion alert, but it won't be based on the sound of the bark itself, if that makes sense. More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK Nest cameras have dog barking alerts if you buy Nest Aware. Here is a comparison of Ring vs. Nest that goes over all your camera options- bit.ly/2kpHW6D
I bought the basic security system and added two CO2/smoke "listeners" which I ordered with z-wave smoke/co2 detectors which must be placed within 6 inches of the actual alarm. It MUST be z-wave compliant or not work. I bought it mostly for the fire alarms. I also got a panic button. Push and hold for 3 seconds it will summon the police. PS: ADT prices are so jacked up I kissed it bye bye. I advise anybody to have monitored fire/smoke alarms. For $10 a month central monitoring is unbeatable. Or $100 a year. Wow. With cellular backup...seriously big time good deal. You can buy as many sensors as you like..i love that too.
Thanks for this very informative video. Recently received the Ring alarm, having purchased it on Prime Days. I also purchased additional entry sensors and motion detectors, glad that you said to add components one at a time.
I have been glued to ADT for so long its hard to break free. The pulse system has always had features that nobody else had. But with today's competition adding more and more ADT is falling behind. I just want a system that controls all my devices from one app. 4k cameras, thermostat, door locks, lighting, garage door, 2 way audio and a app that works with low lag.
Honestly, there is no security system that has all of those components, so you would need multiple devices from multiple brands. Let me know if I can help you look for something specifically.
ADT just released what is called ADT Command and Control and let's you control a lot of the options you listed. I currently have the Ring Alarm system but am debating between it and the ADT Control.
@@stevepessy Is it?!?! I'd love to get it, but the possibility of my monthly price going up and three year contract is a deterrent for me. How long have you had the system for? I love the touch screen tablet verses having to have holes drilled in your wall mount it.
I enjoyed the video. Ring has a lot to offer. Unfortunately I am quite invested in the Google Home ecosystem so not having the Google integration does put a damper on this one. It seems better than the Nest options.
If I get the $10 a month professional 24/7 monitoring option; How will ring trigger dispatch to come over? Do the “Ring Indoor Cameras” and “Ring Stick Up Cameras” trigger motion and set off the siren and call dispatch? Or will it send a notification to my cell and if I don’t disarm after an X amount of time; I will receive a phone call and if that call isn’t answered then ring will send dispatch? Can the cams set off the siren or is it just the door/window sensors and motion detectors? Thank you.
Hello, So the monitoring team won't immediately call dispatch- your second guess is correct. They will send a notification to you first. If you don't respond, they'll contact you and if you don't respond to that, then they can livestream footage, verify an emergency and call dispatch. You can decide when the siren goes off in the Ring app. For more information, see my written reviews of the Ring Cameras: Ring Stickup Cam Wired: bit.ly/2XFeOae Ring Spotlight Cam Battery: bit.ly/30jnowx
Security Baron I don’t think that’s exactly what I mean. I mean where I can view them all in one place. I don’t need their functionality and to be able to control them in ken place. Just view them all. Would also be incredibly interested in having a monitor in the home that always has the cameras shown on it. Wonder how one would do that.
I think you'll be able to self monitor with Ring Alarm in the Caribbean, but there's no professional monitoring available. More info here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Great question! If you invest in the Ring Protect Plus plan, you'll have cellular backup that can connect your base station with the Internet. See my full review of Ring Alarm for more info on the plans: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
@@SecurityDotOrg I"m so confused about how this works. I even called their customer support and they were not able to explain this to me. Are you saying the system will work using my cell phone as the internet source?
Is there a way to add an exterior siren to this system that will be triggered by Ring door/window sensors and/or motion detectors? If so, please recommend one. Thanks and great work!
Thank you! Yes, Ring doesn't manufacture a siren of its own but the Dome siren may work for you, depending on where you live- bit.ly/2M0nHcR It works in temperatures from 32-104 degrees Fahrenheit. Let me know if that's helpful or not!
You’re the best. Thx! BTW why don’t more people want an exterior siren as most indoor alarms can’t be heard outside. My neighbors are better than any guard dogs I’ve seen.
Haha! You just have to get one with a high enough decibel level. Just heard back from Ring and apparently that's the only option when it comes to sirens.
I am working on it right now but basically, I think it's only worth it if you have 10 or more existing hardwired contact sensors. If you have less, it's cheaper to just buy new ones from Ring for $20 each: bit.ly/2kstPNT The review isn't posted yet but here's the news about it from our site: bit.ly/35fQbE5
Great review!! Question: If I were to place a motion sensor in my detached garage, would it sound base alarm inside my house (assuming it was turned on "armed"?) or would it just send a notification to my phone?
If it's within range, it would do both. There's an 104 decibel siren built in and you'll be alerted via a mobile notification. Learn more about Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
What if I have a dog walker? How would they even without setting off an alarm? Would they need to have the app and my login. I didn't see a key fob like Simplysafe.
You can add users to your account who can disarm the system when they need to come in and vice versa. Plus if you have Alexa integration, you can arm and disarm the system using voice commands. See my full written review of Ring Alarm for more info: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
How does it work when you enter your room/home and the sensors detect you, will it straight go off with the loud sirene, or does it give you time to type in your code?
It doesn't have a micro-SD slot but if you do a Ring Protect Plan, you can download the footage onto local storage...sorry if this video was a bit misleading! More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Hi! Yes to both. You'll get notified through the Ring-Always Home app and can then turn off the alarm. See my written review for more info: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
I don't have a video of it unfortunately, although that's in the works. You might want to check out my review of the Nest Cam Outdoor if you're looking for outdoor home security: bit.ly/314Mtw0
I've had the Ring doorbell and floodlight camera at my old house and thought it did a great job. I've just moved into a new home and haven't decided if I want to install the Ring security system or go with a company like ADT. I do like Ring and I don't know if I want to commit to a 3 year contract and a $50+ monthly monitoring package.
Understandable. I would suggest to do Ring Alarm so you can control everything in the same app. Plus, they don't have any long-term contracts and their monitoring is only $10 a month or $100 a year. More info on Ring Alarm in my full written review: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Go with Ring.. I have their alarm system, video doorbell, 4 security cameras, and exterior smart lighting. I’ve also wired in GE smart switches so I can turn my living room and dining room lights on and off from the ring app. Been with them 6 months now. No regrets.

Hi Barry, Ring offers a smoke/ CO alarm for First Alert that works with the rest of the Ring Alarm system. If you already have smoke/ CO alarms, you can also buy the Smoke and CO Listener, which will alert you if your alarms go off. Here's a link for the best offer- bit.ly/2UpPNRD
I think they have Fire & CO "listener" , meant if listening to your traditional fire alarm if it sounds and it will catch the alarm sound and alert Ring security system.
Hey good video, question I'm looking to buy from ring im doing my custom build. Do I need to have the base station to have all the cameras working or can everything work without the base station
I just bought the system, waiting for package to arrive. I just saw the problem online as some people complained. I guess will have to see for myself. Also do you know if the whole system works for 220volts?
Yes, the Ring Stick Up Cam Wired has two-way audio but that's not how they'll contact you. If you get professional marketing, the monitors will check in to verify it's an emergency and you'll be notified through your Ring- Always Home app. If you don't respond to the notification and they verify it's an emergency, they can contact the police, hospital, or fire department. I've watched several of your home security system reviews, and you do a great job. However, I have not yet seen a system where the camera complies with your "necessary feature" of facial recognition! Have you ever reviewed such a system?
Hi John, So you're right that none of the cameras that come with the security systems have facial recognition, but you can mix and match cameras with different systems. Unfortunately, this will probably mean having to use two different apps. I installed a Ring system in my house. So far I like it. The motion detectors don't trip like the ADT ones did. We have dogs and cats and they would set the ADT MD off constantly. The Ring app is easy to use and the system has functioned flawlessly so far.
Hi Kevin, glad to hear you're liking Ring Alarm! For anyone else interested, here's my full written review: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Thanks for the videos. I bought the ring alarm 8 with cam from your link. Even got a bonus. Echo Show 5 and $75 off for being prime!
Thank you and great point! More info on my written review: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
I also do written reviews that are more detailed but definitely did not talk about the Neighbors tab much- bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Hope you like Ring more than Samsung!
Nice review brother, straight to the point on each of the features!
Great job on this overview/explanation on all the various components in the Ring Security kit. Straightforward, no extra techie BS, just straight talk and explanations. Thanks! G

Hi Zaid,
Glad you're enjoying! Unfortunately I never test any life safety equipment, just the regular security components, but I do write about them in my written reviews: securitybaron.com/system-reviews/ring-alarm-review/

Just subscribed about 30minutes ago. Wife has a business and I'm looking for a system. Probably check out your video on ring vs simply safe next
So
Great review.
Excellent and honest review. Just purchase the home system. I gotten the ring doorbell.
Awesome, hope you like it!
I added the ring fire alarm listener. It ties your existing fire alarms to the security system so you don't have to replace them to work with the system. Looking to get the water sensors next.
Thanks a bunch!! Love your videos. Quick questions:

Hi Tony,
Thanks so much and glad you're enjoying!
Great review convinced me to purchase. Shame your Amazon affiliate link doesn't work in the UK. Would certainly have purchased through the link
Awesome review! Great and Thorough. Keep up the good work!

This is why I need a youtube channel and make content so I can have someone send me one to try it out lol.
super thorough review...making me rethink my decision to go with ring
Your videos are great. In your opinion for a standard home, which security system would you recommend.
Any of the ones on my best of list- bit.ly/2OWU2yT

Can you explain cellular backup? Is it a feature that is activated on the base station, or another device they send you once you pay for the plan.
Yes, cellular backup ensures that your system will stay on in the event of a power outage. You don't need another device aside from the base station, you'll just need to pay for the plan. See the written review for more detailed info about your options: bit.ly/2NKQjUK

Hi Marky,
Love your ideas! More comparisons are coming, as well as more specific information about each system. The battery life of the Ring keypad should last about 6-10 months, and you'll just need to recharge it- no need to replace the whole battery. The batteries for your contact sensors can last up to 3 years and with that, you will need to replace the battery.
Hi Jim, Gabe here. Really appreciate that.
I would give RING a 9. Great features with optional components. A high level of security at a great price.
Thanks DeShorie! For more info on Ring, see my written review here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Hope to see your review on the suggested topic soon. ;-)
this is a great video. Very thorough but not too technical. Thanks,
Thanks Doug! For more info on Ring Alarm, check out my written review here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Ring that I think could be helpful: bit.ly/2D2Mq9n
In general, Ring is more affordable than SimpliSafe in terms of professional monitoring and equipment.
@@Brooklynsbestborn You're welcome! Here's the Amazon link for Ring: bit.ly/2UpPNRD
Cool review but try doing full screen with the sample videos from the cam so we can see the video quality
Great point, I'll pass that along! Be sure to check out my written review as well: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Will ring be adding a duress code like how simplisafe has where it sends secretly to company warning of a pending situation
Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean...can you give me an example of a "pending situation"?
You can set off the alarm via the keypad or the mobile app, if that's what you mean. This is basically a virtual panic button.
@@SecurityDotOrg If you are held hostage you can enter a code that will deactivate the alarm but still tell simplisafe you are under duress.
Your reviews are wonderful, sir. Thank you! I subbed.
Awesome, thanks! Be sure to check out my written review of Ring as well- bit.ly/2NKQjUK
I have a dog. During the day in the occupied mode, can the door and or motion sensors be adjusted to delay the alarm response to lets say 90 seconds?
Ring's sensors are pet-sensitive so you can adjust them to not pick up pets under 30 or 50 pounds; you don't want to delay your motion response for humans that long! More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Great Review indeed, question, is this system compatible with the Wyze video cam? Today and tomorrow is prime day and price is right for this system now....
Hi Wayne, Ring and Wyze don't work together, so you'd need to control them through two separate apps. Get the best offers for each here:

Hello,
Glad you like the video! Unfortunately as of now we have no plans to review the Sense8 cameras but I'll let you know if anything changes. - Gabe
great review, wondering when a particular door opens does the system tell what door was open (front door, side door, etc) Thanks
More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Nest cameras have dog barking alerts if you buy Nest Aware.
Hey, thanks for sharing! All good points. More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Thanks for this very informative video. Recently received the Ring alarm, having purchased it on Prime Days. I also purchased additional entry sensors and motion detectors, glad that you said to add components one at a time.
You're welcome! Let me know how you like your system. To learn more about how it works, read my written review here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Yes, if you already have Ring products then Ring Alarm makes sense.
ADT just released what is called ADT Command and Control and let's you control a lot of the options you listed. I currently have the Ring Alarm system but am debating between it and the ADT Control.
I switched to ADT COMMAND and it's pretty awesome. With some work everything is working great.
It's a lot more affordable but definitely doesn't work as well as Nest Secure. Here's my review of Nest vs. Ring- bit.ly/2GXSjWC

Thank you.
Hello,
So the monitoring team won't immediately call dispatch- your second guess is correct. They will send a notification to you first. If you don't respond, they'll contact you and if you don't respond to that, then they can livestream footage, verify an emergency and call dispatch. You can decide when the siren goes off in the Ring app. For more information, see my written reviews of the Ring Cameras:

Security Baron do you know of any device or program that allows you to have all your cameras “Ring, Nest, etc” in one place?
Do you mean control them through the same app? IFTTT can help sync up connected devices with each other. Here's some background- bit.ly/304zk5r

Hi Ethnan, Glad this was helpful for you!
Do you know if this device is operational outside of the USA for example in the Caribbean?
I think you'll be able to self monitor with Ring Alarm in the Caribbean, but there's no professional monitoring available. More info here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
Do you need to leave the Ring base station, keypad and range extender pluggeg all the time
Yes, for the system to work! The base station does have a backup battery but it'll only last 24 hours. More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK

It works in temperatures from 32-104 degrees Fahrenheit. Let me know if that's helpful or not!
Thx for your reply but do you know if Dome is waterproof/weather resistant as I plan on installing on my exterior wall?
@@fourrunner46 Looks like it's not, my bad! Just reached out to Ring about an outdoor siren and will let you know when I have an answer.
Have you reviewed The Ring retrofit kit?
I am working on it right now but basically, I think it's only worth it if you have 10 or more existing hardwired contact sensors. If you have less, it's cheaper to just buy new ones from Ring for $20 each: bit.ly/2kstPNT

Security Baron, Can you use the ring on cellular only, if you do the initial setup via wifi or ethernet?
What if I have a dog walker? How would they even without setting off an alarm? Would they need to have the app and my login. I didn't see a key fob like Simplysafe.
You can add users to your account who can disarm the system when they need to come in and vice versa. Plus if you have Alexa integration, you can arm and disarm the system using voice commands. See my full written review of Ring Alarm for more info: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
How does it work when you enter your room/home and the sensors detect you, will it straight go off with the loud sirene, or does it give you time to type in your code?
Are you sure the stick-up camera has local storage (microSD slot)?
It doesn't have a micro-SD slot but if you do a Ring Protect Plan, you can download the footage onto local storage...sorry if this video was a bit misleading! More info on Ring Alarm here: bit.ly/2NKQjUK

Does the ring system have central fire alarm coverage? If so which hardware is needed?

S there a quiet mode for the door sensor?
I read online that some sensors go offline often on their own. Is that still a problem for Ring? Also do these components work on 220 volts?
Hi Mazen,
I didn't have an issue with the sensors going offline. The sensors are all wireless, which component are you referring to?
I just bought the system, waiting for package to arrive. I just saw the problem online as some people complained. I guess will have to see for myself. Also do you know if the whole system works for 220volts?
@@mazeneid2828 Double-checking with Ring, stand by...
Does this system have two way talk? Like if the siren go off will a worker contact us through the system?
Yes, the Ring Stick Up Cam Wired has two-way audio but that's not how they'll contact you. If you get professional marketing, the monitors will check in to verify it's an emergency and you'll be notified through your Ring- Always Home app. If you don't respond to the notification and they verify it's an emergency, they can contact the police, hospital, or fire department. So you're right that none of the cameras that come with the security systems have facial recognition, but you can mix and match cameras with different systems. Unfortunately, this will probably mean having to use two different apps. Here are two great cameras with facial recognition:
