Suspension problems with 2007-2014 Escalade: Replacing Z95 front struts in Cadillac, GMC, Chevy

- In this video I share one of the top problems when buying a used 3rd generation 2007-2014 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Denali vehicles, and that is worn out, broken Z95 Magnetic Ride Control suspension. In this video I change out the magneride front struts in my 2010 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum. I did the unpopular fix and I put the OEM AC Delco struts back in to keep this riding like a Cadillac. As far as labor goes, it is a very easy job to do at home with some mechanical ability. The front struts can be bought on Amazon for a very decent price and I will leave the link down below! Make sure to double check your RPO codes to make sure you are buying the correct struts for your vehicle!

Little trick.. Before you raise the truck off the ground, unbolt the strut (center nut) so that when you raise the truck, the suspension coil will expand and you wont have to pay someone to take the coil out... Put them back in, lower the vehicle and put the center nut on.
I'd like to see a video of that
@@nickmoore4923 Sounds a little dangerous...
Ill make a video as soon as I replace mine in the next couple weeks and show you
Following. Give us eBay links too
@@pyharpin what eBay links do you want
Great Video! You sound like Ray Ramano narrating a car video! Its great!😁
Why does everyone say I sound like him???!
@@streetriderscustoms it's not a bad thing. Thanks for the great video
@streetriderscustoms It's not a bad thing at all because Everybody loves Raymond!😂😂
Going to do the front strut's in March.. Rear shocks worked out great!! Thanks for both videos!!
Awesome I am glad that the videos could help you out! If you order through my links that would really help out the channel!
@@streetriderscustoms I ordered the parts thru the link
Dude thanks for the tip I’m about to do mine and will look at loosening the strut first…great video btw
Ray romano, I love your video bud
Great video, thank you. Im kinda late to this party, but it is best to just convert all for corners with new and chuck all the OEM shite. Ive found Arnott Industries. 👍 and readylift parts kit 69-3015. Its gonna be my overlander on 33's. Lets go...
Even my new ones don't work properly and in order to get credit for replacement, you have to have a dealer report showing its bad. My brother just replaced them with rancho and fool the sensor by taking the connector with magnet from old shock and just plug it back in. Glad your's worked the 1st time. Its a pain to remove shock from spring tower.
It's strange that you would get two new struts and they both wouldn't work. I don't think I have ever heard of that before. I know a lot of guys do the bypass the OEM but I wanted it to ride like it should this time around. Hope you get yours figured out
@@streetriderscustoms so now for all you Avalanche z55 guys ,I have a suspension code 6f2 and 7f2,very odd but if you search those codes belong to 2016 Cadillac escalades.go figure. So I ordered those springs and hope it solves leveling.plus I'm going to tear apart the old shock and show everyone the internals
Thanks for posting this. I have a 2013 ESV Platinum with 58,000 miles that I bought new and no modifications. I've developed a front end noise/drivers side when I back out and driving slowly over bumps. I can stand on the running board and bounce and get a terrible rub/squeak noise in the front drivers side. Could it be the shock? Doesn't do it on the passenger side.
Sounds like the noise that I had going on right before I changed my old ones out. If you can jack the car up and get both front wheels off the ground then you can check to see if one of them is locked up like I showed in the video. More than likely you need to replace the struts. Check out the links to buy them cheaper on amazon!
@@streetriderscustoms Thanks for the helpful information!
Very well made video. Thanks for making it.
Thank you! If you need to order any parts check out the links in the description!
I have a 13 cadillac escalade esv luxury rear wheels drive When I start move the truck I hear sound coming from the under carriage
I have the Magnetic ride on my 2008 platinum Escalade but mine doesn’t have those connectors on the top of the strut where you unplugged in the video, I can’t find an answer anywhere but is that normal for this older model? I have the z95 as well with air shocks in the back
The 2008 models are supposedly different because it was the first year they started doing the upgraded shocks. To really figure out what you have you need to look in your glovebox and look at the RPO code list and find the code listed for your suspension option
You can buy them completely ready to go in or just buy the conversion kit
You can not buy the z95 or z55 struts complete. The regular ones you can buy complete.
Do you need to replace the shocks and struts or just struts?
If you are buy the Z95 struts they do come complete. So you will then swap the spring and everything over to the new strut
Did you have any issues with aligning the bottom bolts when reinstalling? I had a shop put on new springs and now doesn’t align up. I guess just put it in a vise and try to spin it till it aligns?
Sometimes they can be out of alignment when installing new ones, its easy enough to turn them to get the bolts in. Sometimes you need to put a center punch through one hole to get it aligned and then you can get the other bolt in
You also have new nuts and bolts to go with it. Too bad we couldn't see you trying a spring compressor to take out the original springs as that would have been informative.
That process is something that most people shouldn't attempt unless you have the proper equipment so I don't want anyone to try and do something sketchy and then blame me
I replaced the same front struts, but my truck drives like shit, tire unblances on bumps and i could feel steering might move or truck may drift, i even changed bushing and stabilizers links
It could be your tie rods or ball joints. Basically anything in the front suspension or steering.
@@streetriderscustoms its painful to figure out, I took truck twice to good year and cadillac and they tell me nothing is wrong with the suspension, i replaced inner and outer tie rods as well, except control arms, i do not want to keep spending money while no one can confirm what is wrong, i replaced all rear suspension including control arms stablizer links shocks air compressor
Where did you buy the struts from?
I am having the same issue right now. Replaced my front struts two weeks ago and something went haywire. Bought the struts from 1A and let a machine shop swap out the springs. My truck clucks over bumps. Two many bumps the steering wheel is everywhere
Was close to getting the strut master conversion kit for my 2009 Escalade. I held off to do further research. Not sure which route to take. My front struts need to be replaced asap
Use the links in the description and buy the correct OEM from Amazon. Don't cheap out, you want it to ride like it's supposed to. You get what you pay for
I ended up going with OEM front struts as per my mechanics recommendation as well. it drives like an absolute dream right now. Very noticeable difference. Glad I went OEM even if I had to pay more.. got an alignment next week. @@streetriderscustoms
@@Anthony-ns8ef where did u end up buying the z95?
@@RasTona_you can buy the z95 struts on Amazon at this link amzn.to/3ujFmPM
Gm does sell them as a complete assembly
Not the complete Z95 magnetic struts
What kind of suspension has this model? Air , magnetic or normal
This escalade has the Z95 suspension, so it has the magnetic ride control
I did original z95 on the front, and air ride original on the back. It rides better but still I have a lot of shaking and vibrations in a body. I don't know what causing it. Some guys suggested ESCM RESET. I TRIED MULTIPLE SCANNERS not working, need original tech2 from gm. Unfortunately that is 2 k. My driver side of a truck is 2 higher than left side. This truck is too complicated, I own it for about a year still have 3 years of payments, and it keeps eating my family budget. It's not worth it, any 4 runner, Highlander or sequoia is way better.
These vehicles are not too complicated. A good technician should be able to find your issue. Also you need to remember that none of the cars you listed are luxury cars. Luxury vehicles come with added repair costs and something to think about when buying an older luxury car that has miles on it. You could just buy a Yukon or a Tahoe and it would be comparable to those Toyotas you listed. Or you could swap in the non Z95 shocks in your Escalade....
Can you tell me how I can get a replacement connector that go on top of the strut?
Best bet would be to find one being parted out and cut it off the donor car
How do u trick the computer to get rid of the check suspension message does anyone know ?
Doing what I did is keeping it factory so there are no issues with the suspension light. If you were getting rid of the OEM shocks there are wiring kits with resistors that you can buy to trick the light
I been looking for new struts the biggest problem I am having is finding the right ones with 22 in wheels I do have Z95 suspention
Follow the link for the Z95 struts. I have 22" wheels and Z95 and that's what I did in the video
Thanks
@@streetriderscustoms what link?
@@gregskipper the links are in the description so you can order the parts right from Amazon
Geat video! Just curious the Z95 and Z55 difference as well as strut and shock. There are also similar thing like EBJ 580-435 as what your showed . No idea should chose that, since those from your link are unavailable.
You need to buy the shocks and struts that your vehicle came with. If you look in the glove box you will see a list of all the codes of how your car is built. You will see either a 'Z95' code or a 'Z55' code and that determines what shocks and struts you need. Let me know if you need any more help, I also looked at my links and everything was available on amazon
@@streetriderscustoms Thanks and sorry confusing, the link as ACDelco 580-435 and 580-433 showed either currently unavaiable or temporarily outof stock from my logging account. ACDelco 580435 may find out in Ebay anyway. AWS advised EBJ 580-435 *1 $238, ARSTAK *1 $345,Blrack *1339 LUFT MEISTER *2 $339. Totally lost my mind. And some suggest better to replace Rear absorber firstly, I wondering why front struts not affected bigger when driver seat amounted in front.
Other than the noise how did you know it was the shocks/struts? Did it have a sway/bounce so bad that if felt like you could loose control of the vehicle?
When these shocks get worn and need replaced, it will drive like a dump truck. If the ride is really harsh that would be the biggest giveaway that the shocks are bad
Well with my system it uses the z55 suspension and after 20000 miles they appear to have failed. My brother believes that their only good for 15K mi. Sad we don't have better engineers who will stop creating engineered failures.
Yes, most people do complain that these struts do not last as long as they should. Its unfortunate because putting in regular struts is like having a Suburban instead of a Cadillac
What’s the part number for z55 front struts

@@streetriderscustoms Update: , So..ordered the pair on Amazon.($732). It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, 3weeks wait, didn’t happen, tracking # is useless. Apparently the seller (Metro 24 Wholesale Inc) is pretty famous for stiffing customers. I should hve read the customer reviews. I hope you’re not associated with this business.
I should have taken ur advice a month ago. Better late than never….so thanks.
Just get the z55 delete kit! I converted it and it comes with resistors to delete the error code
This wasn't that expensive and I am very happy with the way it rides.
Why? It's a Cadillac. Yours doesn't ride anywhere near as good now
Post a link
So dumb. You bought a Cadillac. It comes with electronic suspension and air ride why on earth wouldn't you not replace it with what's supposed to go back on there....other than you're just too cheap to replace it properly lol. Makes no sense 🤦♂️

Use oem struts. It's a 80,000 dollar truck why put bs parts on it
All the struts I used on the video are OEM
@@streetriderscustoms said amazon lol my bad
@@jodyjohnstein I bought the OEM parts from Amazon. Which is the cheapest place to buy them And is a fraction what a shop or a dealer would charge
@streetriderscustoms I've never seen legit oem products on Amazon so this is good news for me because I'll be buying an escalade soon and I'm not paying anyone to fix anything on it
