We have a 2007 Escalade and it is one of the best vehicles we have ever owned. 175,000 miles and still running strong! The mileage has never been great, but we knew that when it was purchased.
I drove my Escalade Esv up till 260k miles! Would’ve kept it but hated parking it, too big for one person so I traded for a BMW M650i gran coupe. Then I missed the size and my husband got a 23 Silverado Z71 with a 10in lift on 22s and 35s 🫣😅❤️
I had a 99 Yukon Denali, which was virtually the same as the 1st gen. Escalade. The transmission went out at 175K miles. At the time, a local shop wanted $2400 to replace it. Times were tough, so I bought a "How to rebuild" DVD and a rebuild kit. Saved myself almost 2K and I know it was done right. Sold the truck with 255K miles and got an 06 Escalade to replace it. Transmission started slipping 2 years ago at 185K miles. Dusted off the o'le DVD. Best $20 I ever spent! I'm now at 215K miles.
I was randomly looking online, and saw a 07 escalade for 12,800k. It's only 111,k miles on it, I was like I always loved those cars. So I am researching and I want to go look at it tomorrow. I think that would be a steal, but now I know to try to look under and see if there any rust. If Rust I won't get it.
I've got a 2010 Escalade EXT pickup. Phenomenal vehicle. I'm the 2nd owner since new. Extremely well maintained. It has 180k and gets 11mpg. It does not have the deactivation. Those are not good. I'm very happy with the truck. They don't even make them anymore so it should keep it's value. Another great video Scotty. Thanks!!
I myself have a 2005 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum Edition, 160k original miles I'm the second owner. Has been very reliable on me, old vs new all day long.
I have a 2007 with just over 179K miles (70-80k of those are mine) and have to say that barring climate related issues with the PVC hoses in the desert it has been pretty reliable. The LS engine just goes. Note: the issue that exist with DoD (Displacement on Demand) or AFM (Active Fuel Management) isn't so much oil consumption as much as it is that the spring loaded lifters start to twist and destroy the camshaft (which then destroys other stuff). I never thought about the thermal issue due to AFM - good call out!
I have 2015 Camry and 2010 Escalade and 93 Chevy Silverado Has been the one with less issues it was my dad truck 2-3 years got new gaskets that it still runs nice 😅
I bought my 05 gmc Yukon Denali xl 6.0l 4l60e with 102 k on it for 11,5. 12 years ago and still going strong. I have over 270 k on it now. Just normal stuff that you have to fix or replace has been done to it. Buy other than that she is still going strong.
True I learn that from my dad he got 01 Denali back then still has that truck. But in the manual also says that in street driving not to engage overdrive to drive on 3 and surprising it drives better and so far no transmission issues he still has the original transmission. The only thing that he has replaced in that truck was front diff
I have a friend who had a 2003 Escalade with 410,000 miles on hers. My grandmother still has her 1992 Sedan Deville she bought in 1993 with over 200,000 miles the thing still runs...lol Cadillac has made some reliable cars over the years and some crappy ones. My Aunt had a '98 Catera, one of her worst cars ever.
My issue with my 2009 escalade was the air compressor for the suspension. The location in the left rear wheel well was not the most ideal...it failed twice on me within a relatively short amount of time ...the vehicle was solid aside from that...loved it
My parents have a 2012 and 2011 ESV Platinum and EXT Platinum (can’t remember which one is which year), they bought them brand new back in 2011 and we still use them as our daily driver. They’ve got over 450000 km on them and I believe the only things that have gone wrong recently are the suspension a year ago and the window power electronics (the windows would close and open slower than it use to, maybe getting stuck?). Otherwise it had regular maintenance. I think it may have had a couple more major services or repairs in the first 4 years (I was 10-14 and hadn’t payed much attention to the service work 😅), but in the last 6, just those 2 problems mentioned earlier. The engine runs fine and you can feel the acceleration from the >400hp. Dad loves them. Family and friends still give compliments at how comfortable and cool our Escalades are, even 10 years later. Parents didn’t get the 2016 update since they weren’t much of an upgrade (and dad’s loved EXT model was removed), but is thinking of maybe getting the newer models (though EXT is still missing). But our Escalades are still holding up fine!
@@rolandthethompsongunner64 sure it’s no sports car, but it’s still on par with modern top trim trucks (besides the more sporty TRXs, Raptors, etc…). And with the 4WD, they haul!
@@fixingitrightish Yeah and rust if you live in the wrong spot. Sehaj, you probably don't live around the great lakes. Michigan and surrounding states will eat cars. Especially GMs (except the properly made fglass body over real chassis-Corvette) and I don't need to mention that the LS v8s and V6s are the best swap motors along with Honda Ks. Certain 90s Audis that were still "reasonable" to work on were what I rolled there because they were truly rust proof. And Audis were tanks in the 90s. Stay away from the V8s in any year tho. Stay pre direct injection. Gosh this new crap ruins everything. Advancing tech could make cooler cars, instead its making them worse. Even though I'm dogging GM, I still acknowledge the LS motor and Corvette as great things and what does GM do? Discontinue LS and turn the Corvette into an EV Crossover. That is the pinnacle of removing masculinity from our society and woke ugly bimbo Mary Bara is just rubbing it in. When is somebody going to say enough already, just because you're a bull-dyke CEO who wants to ruin masculinity for men doesn't mean you get to destroy a nearly 70 year old national icon, go cool off somewhere.
@Taxation IsTheft haha I live in Wisconsin. I am an hour from Lake Michigan. I know all about rust and the need for frequent car washes throughout winter at proper times. I own bolt extractors of every size because when you live in the rust belt it is a must. I have worked on enough cars to say no car is safe if the wrong kind of person owns it.
You are selling me on Toyota Scotty. Also, I love the fact that Toyota isn't going to stop offering ICE vehicles. It's OK to build EV's for the people who want them but we also need a choice for ICE vehicles.
Get a pre 2012 without all the excessive tech crap. All tech is unreliable and as tech becomes more than half the mass of the car, you won't be able to see any difference in reliability between brands like Honda/Toyota and the others anymore. Can't you all see that they're slowly weaning us onto a system like China where you're car won't start if your carbon footprint exceeds ALOTTMENT for the week. Make it a point to use cash for everything. Boycott 2015 and up cars. The market may never realize it, but if we valued cars only for how long and easily they will continue to facilitate our constitutional right to free movement, every 90s honda/toyota with a stick would be worth 3 million right now. Take a 2023 Escalade or a 2023 ANYTHING vs a 97 camry with a 5 speed. In the midst of nuclear war and recession, which one guarantees you get to work and the grocery for the next 10 years with no giant issues that are expensive and/or too complicated to do yourself. I didn't realize what a rant that was til I looked up, yowza
@@taxationistheft9441 I've got two Honda's, a 98 V6 with 315k and a 2002 4 cylinder with a manual transmission. They're both daily drivers for me. My truck is a 90s F150 with the dependable straight 6 and 5 speed manual. The older the better in my opinion. I wish they were carbureted!
EVs are impracticle ...no infrastructure to charge ...you have to enjoy waiting 2 hours to recharge if you lucky and noone is in front of you.Dont believe the politcians they are delusional
The AFM has a tendency to collapse the the lifters its best to get rid of the AFM either with a camshaft and lifter upgrade or a AFM disabler you can plug into the OBD 2 port
It’s gonna be pretty cool to look back on cars like the escalade V and blackwing sedans in 20 years just like how we look back on cars like the trailblazer SS today.
I love how so many people think supercharging somehow gets you better gas mileage. The SC shoves in more air so guess what, you can shove in more fuel and make more power.
I have been driving SUBURBANS for 18 years, put over 300k miles on two of them with the original power train, but after my last one (a 2019), I will never buy another GM product.
I got a remanufactured transmission, put in my O4. I didn't feel comfortable having the shop go into the old one. So I got it replaced. Also got a 3 year warranty.
Got my wife a 2011 Escalade ESV 2 years ago, with 130k miles. It has a super clean interior and a good body. We've put 15k miles on it. I bought it for 17k but put another 3k on it catching up the maintenance and fixing a handful of minor things. Plus a tuning to deactivate the AFM, for longevity in my case. It felt like a new truck when I drove it home from the mechanic. The front magnetic shocks were waring out this year so another 3k there. It can feel like a money pit at times, but I'm pretty happy with it. If I did it again, I'd probably get a suburban just for the 4x4 instead of the AWD. (We use it to tow our camper and sometimes it gets muddy).
I remember when I ordered my Ford 1975 Mustang II hatchback with my fathers Ford employee discount. 302 V8 fully loaded with eight track, beautiful Copper color for $5,500. My dad thought I was nuts paying that much. It handled wonderful on the highway but only 12 mpg. Gas in Michigan was 49 cents a gallon. Unfortunately the summer of 1979 my bride of six months wanted the car with A/C and her drive was 3 miles round trip. Also working for Chrysler as a computer programmer at Dodge Main in Hamtramck, I was encouraged to own a Chrysler car and the new employee discount on a used executive car was great. Then 1985 my wife explained that the baby car seat wouldn’t fit in a two door or rear hatchback. Great engine and I could do 90% of the maintenance and repairs. In 2023 it’s almost impossible to even get your hands in the engine. With the cost of buying a house and a car today is beyond the middle class. Love you straight talk Scotty
Just one vehicle someone tracked on Carvana (used) dropped 27% in month of December. Hold the line let the greedy dealers go under or ONLY buy once prices are normalized.
Nothing wrong with buying high mileage cars in good condition. Brother in law bought a Tundra 2 years ago with 120k thing still runs great, zero problems now with 160k.
I’ve noticed 2000 to 2014 Tahoe’s suburbans and Yukon’s are the new hood OG vehicles every section 8 housing area you see is crawling with old beat up Yukon’s Escalade and Tahoe’s with world star wheels
Fully expect my 2004 Sequoia 4WD to reach 500,000 on the original drive train. Best thing? Only paid $4000 two years ago. Only has 168,000 miles, runs like a clock. There is nothing out there that comes even close.
To me the SUV is something you could share with your entire family to take trips together or go in inclement weather but for doing everyday things it's so much easier to just get a car! They have small car sized SUV's that are like crossovers that would work better for more personal uses.
Scotty eats his own words! 200K miles from a GM vehicle! I've got a Ford with over 200K and a GM with over 121K and both are still on the road with no major issues.
Ive never made it past 150k in a GM vehicle without having to do some major work..& I maintain my cars/trucks pretty well(regular oil changes , tunes, etc.) I own a 2010 Escalade now with only 120k & its having issues
9:40 I just got a tuner about a month ago to turn off the VCM on my ‘13 Accord EX-L V6 and I’m glad I did. It runs so much smoother and it doesn’t vibrate the crap out of the car when cruising down the road like it did before.
Love your show Scotty! Watching near your hometown in WNY! Keep up the great work! Also, Happy New Year! Wish you and your family health, wealth, and happiness! im imoressed that the cylinder deactivation is working, without any issues! I mean, 12 year old vehicle... Wonder why some GM's can last and others don't... Surely its not all just due to maintenance, or lack there of..?
Scotty is praising the original cost $150,000 Escalada, made by GM. On the other hand, he trashed Chevy Cruze on different occasions, which I happened to buy it new in 2012, $17,500, and ten years later today, still driving it, with 70k miles on it, without any repair on engine and manual transmission.
@@mikej238 I agree my cruze has seen a lot of time parking, however in today's working from home situation, I just cannot find enough time to drive her, besides the weekends.
These newer Escalade's (the 2007 to 2014 generation) with the 6.2 L V8 engine, including active fuel management (AFM) and the six-speed automatic transmission have much better performance than these older (the 1999 to 2001 generation) ones without AFM. They are a lot more reliable, compared to the Lincoln Navigator. These Navigator's, especially the older ones (the 2005 and 2006 model) with the 5.4 L Triton 3-valve V8 engine and the six-speed automatic transmission had a lot of problems. So, this 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the best vehicle in the used market, if you are planning to or need to buy a large SUV with an extended wheelbase. Anyway, these large SUV's and large pick-up trucks are the best, safest vehicles to buy in the used market, because the value is not too high. Thank you very much and have a great first week of 2023.
It's like when shopping for a rolls Royce and you ask the sales person about gas mileage and they reply if you are concerned about that then you can't afford this!
scotty Im about to get a 2005 cadillac escalade base with only 2 previous owners and only 117k miles original. It looks mint! It did have some rear end damage early in its life and now its ended up at a local honda dealer for 10k. I want to get it but im worried about its age.
I don't understand what the demographic is for these pieces of junk, especially when they're new. $150k+ for a rebadged Yukon. They're not even reliable. Good video though!
I’ve had a ‘14 ESV Platinum with a Hennessey HPE550 kit (Magnuson Supercharger, intercooler, tuning, etc.) for over 5 years and I love it. Gas mileage is terrible, but who cares😂. Only issue I’ve had is a bad solenoid in the TCM. About $500 for a new TCM and $75 to program it 👍
Scotty... I'm in NY... willing to go see you up in RI with my 2015 GMC Yukon XL when you travel there... I keep getting codes P0175, P0172, P0430 and P2097... I have changed the Air Flow Mass Sensor, All Oxigen Sensor and Air Filter... It goes away but lights always comeas back... Dealer says it's the "CAT" Car runs fine, no hesitation, no shaking, no loss of power... I don't think is the CAT myself... I've tried the fluids you recommend for the fuel but engine light comes back eventually... What do you think... It has 210K+ miles... Only thing I have not changed is the fuel injectors & CAT... I've changed everything else... I would love to keep it (if it's worth it) or get a Sequoia...
Inspired by the 3500 ram with the Cummins diesel with the eyes and transmission made by Toyota they are brought they say they're bulletproof and I watched a lot of things on TH-cam about them great transmission miter truck had 100,000 mi never had a problem
Why can't Ford and GM get it better I keep bringing more of this new technology out everything's at 10 speed automatic transmissions the greatest I hear a lot of them break at a hundred some thousand miles the six-speed automatic eyes and the way to go made by Toyota why don't you just go back to the six-speed automatic the other two manufacturers like the Allison good transmission everyone shove all this new technology down they want everything to break through the buy new truck all the time

With proper maintenance must GM products are pretty good. They don't do well when not maintained. I love my impala.
400 HP in a 6,000 lb vehicle 😂
EV is a scam and Toyota knows it
Get a pre 2012 without all the excessive tech crap.

It’s gonna be pretty cool to look back on cars like the escalade V and blackwing sedans in 20 years just like how we look back on cars like the trailblazer SS today.
Best review yet. Thank you about to purchase a 2007 Cadillac Escalade esv with 200k miles.
I love how so many people think supercharging somehow gets you better gas mileage. The SC shoves in more air so guess what, you can shove in more fuel and make more power.
Don’t worry can’t afford one anyway, can’t even afford to get my own car fixed. Yet still love your knowledge.
I have been driving SUBURBANS for 18 years, put over 300k miles on two of them with the original power train, but after my last one (a 2019), I will never buy another GM product.
Go back to 06 or older…
Thanks for your utubes Scotty. Blessings and love to you and your family
My 2013 cadillac escalade ESV platinum edition has done me and my family pretty well other than gas MPG. it's a great truck overall

180k on any automatic transmission isn’t bad.
My problem with them is the same problem I have with German vehicles, gratuitous use of plastic pieces - engine and body! Terrible electronic issues!
