    I have been watching all your prayer plant videos and find them to be the best. I have been admiring your Rattlesnake Calathea for a while now, so today I got one. I really hope I can keep it alive. I am struggling with my Rabbit Tracks, Green Maranta, I am ready to give up on it. Nothing I do makes it happy. I am probably doing too much and need to just leave it alone.

      The green maranta has definitely been the slowest growing of all of mine but care wise I treat it the same as the rest and it does fine.

    Thank you so much, Drea, for tackling the Calathea/Goeppertia question, job well done! Your white fusion and warscewiczii are gorgeous; they are both on my wish list. I have a Calathea/Goeppertia Zebra, and it looks very similar to the warscewiczii, but it is all green, no purple on the underside of the leaves.

      I love the zebra! I was going to buy that one before the warscewiczii but soooo many people have told me how much trouble they’ve had with them I decided to try the warscewiczii first since I had never owned a velvet leaf Calathea before. But I saw so many zebra ones growing in the wild in Hawaii and they looked so beautiful growing in big clusters all over the ground 😍

      @@AlohaPlantLife, haha, yeah, the zebra hasn't been smooth sailing; she's got crispy leaves right now, but that's my fault because I let her dry out too much (I am an under-waterer) and most Calathea would get crispy under those circumstances. I am partial to the warscewiczii purple leaves but the zebra is also very beautiful, imo. Overall, I haven't had any problems with her. I have been using your awesome preventative spray recipe that you did the video on toward the end of the summer, and it seems to make a difference. I just wipe all the velvet plant leaves dry after application and I haven't had a fungal issue or anything like that on any of them.

      Hi, Drea, since you seem to have such good luck with the rattlesnake, may I suggest the velvety rufibarba. It’s my first furry Calathea and I’m finding it equally chill. Really appreciate your channel!

    Great great video. Like most people who suddenly fall in love with foliage plants, it's been hard to squelch the urge to acquire more Calathea and Alocasia plants I currently have. I have do 'Rosie' Medallion and she is extremely happy in the bathroom; on a shelf 5ft up, and 5ft from the small window. She 'moves' all day long, but never prays. I also have a 'Red' Maranta that is strangely happy in a really hard to describe location. She also moves up and down all day, but is NOT getting much light. I'd call it a low light spot so I moved her 2 ft and she immediately turned 4 leaves yellow. I was like..."Really girl? You gonna act up for 24 inches?" But honestly I find it absolutely fascinating!!

      Yup! Sometimes 2 ft is all it takes for certain plants to voice their displeasure, lol.

    Why would my calatha have little brown tips? Is it usually underwatering? Or being dry too long. The brown is on the tip point of my rabbit track maranatha

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are multiple things that can cause that but in my experience it’s usually the type of water you’re using. I go into detail on all the things it could potentially be from in this care guide video: th-cam.com/video/xTmi-t61jAQ/w-d-xo.html

    Good Morning from KY. 👋 i have a Grey star and a peacock and I'm so scared of spider mites, I afraid to put anything near it and I clean the leave twice a week. 🤪 Also this is totally off topic but how's your Ficus's doing?

      My ficuses are doing great! Tineke is getting so big it’s going to have to be a floor plant soon.

    Thank you for sharing this information. I must admit, it makes me want to add a different type of calathea to my plant's fam. I have a question. I've been struggling with my orbifolia. I began noticing fungus gnats; I placed them in a different area of my house and sprayed neem oil mixed with water... I woke up shocked at the way they looked now. There're black/dry spots all over the leaves. They also look gloomy. We've grown so many in the past few weeks, but suddenly they stopped. I changed the lightbulb, spraying the neem oil? They might ob went into shock. What would you recommend me to do?
    THANK YOU!

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So a few things, first off, I HATE neem oil, and I especially hate it for use on my Calathea. I’ve had nothing but bad experiences. Secondly, am I understanding correctly that your Orbifolia only has fungus gnats and no other pests? If so, no need to isolate it (fungus gnats will find their way all over your house no matter what), so I would recommend moving it back to where it was happy. For getting rid of fungus gnats, hop on Amazon and order yourself either mosquito dunk or mosquito bits and add them to your watering can in a little mesh bag or something similar. I break the dunks into 1/4 pieces and put one piece in my mesh bag and leave it soaking in my watering can all the time. This will take care of any fungus gnats each time you water your plants. Once the dunk fully dissolves just replace it with another 1/4 piece. If you opt for the mosquito bits, just use like a tablespoon worth. Hope this help💚

      @@AlohaPlantLife THANK YOU! I really appreciate it. Yup, I've only noticed fungus gnats, but I believe I made a mistake. Since I moved it in a different area of my room I placed it next to a pothos with spider might.
      Would it be a goo idea to still move it back to where it used to be?
      But once again, thank you!

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karletzin Well you sprayed it with neem oil which technically should have deterred pests from wanting to get on it (according to the makers of neem oil). If it was me, I’d wipe the top and bottom of all the leaves off with a damp paper towel (throw the paper towel away immediately after just in case there were any spider mites) and then put it back where it was previously.

    Love this video. What can I do to prevent Spidermites in winter? I bought a baby orbifolia this summer, it grows very well and I have a bigger plant, Mauiqueen ? Would love to get some more like this Pinkstripes but I don't have enough space to put them. 🌞

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the below link is for a video that shows how to make the pest spray I use. I spray most my plants down with this once a month as a preventative measure, unless they’re HUGE spider mite magnets like my White Fusion Calathea. Those plants now get a spray down once every two weeks. Also, make sure you’re keeping the leaves free of dust. Spider mites and pests in general seem to be more attracted to dirty leaves than clean leaves (maybe they think dirty means we’re not paying much attention to a plant and so less likely for them to get caught 🤔🧐🤨). Hope this helps💚

    Do you fertilize them through the winter? What’s the sign they need some. I’ve collected a few recently. I want to make sure I don’t fertilize too soon or too late.

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I fertilize them once in a month in the winter if their growth slows down. If it doesn’t slow down I keep doing once every two weeks.
