Hey Christian, you are awesome!!!. I recently started my plant journey and have learned a lot from you about propogating and care for all plants. Also thank you for the humidifier recommendation with 20% promo code. I was able to acquire the same, thanks to your coupon. I ordered it yesterday, I felt it is worth the investment. Thanks again 😆
Hi Christian thanks for your recommendation on the humidifier.. it’s past the date for the discount, I wondered if the free filter was only for the U.S purchases? Do you order from the .com as apprised to .ca? I’m fairly new to this hahaha
Calatheas are perfect beginner plants as they will tell you what you are doing wrong. If you want to learn how to take care of houseplants, learn Calatheas first and the rest will be easy. Calatheas are self-repairing. If you get an ugly leaf, simply snip it off and the plant will grow a new one. If you get damage on a cactus, succulent, Sansevieria, Ficus Lyrata etc it is not so easy to repair. Also, you don't need to worry about the plant climbing out of the pot and needing support sticks. You do need to check them often - I check mine every day. Christian, I urge you to make a new video and show all the signs Calatheas send. Help Calatheas get the right treatment they deserve. Put a Calathea in direct sunlight and it will curl its leaves in a matter of minutes. Expose a Calathea with maroon undersides for too much light and the maroon colour will fade. Give a Calathea hard (high calcium content) tap water and you can see the calcium as white specks on the leaves. Allow it to dry out and it will wilt dramatically. Give it water again and tie it up to see it recover. Expect to get a few ugly leaves as the plant acclimates. If you get a bad leaf while doing light, humidity, water and temperature correctly, then it must be the soil. I have had great success with replacing the nursery soil sooner than later.
I have all of my calatheas is self watering pots with wicks and they love it. They drink what they need from a light airy potting mix that remains constantly damp, not wet. The potting mix I use is 50% potting compost or coir with some worm castings thrown in and 50% pumice of perlite. I feed them every time I top up the reservoir with liqui dirt. I have a humidifier but only use it when the humidity drops below 50%. You get fewer problems with humidity if you get the watering right. My plants are all happy, healthy and growing like crazy. I am in the UK.
Put your tap water outside in a bucket for a day or two. The sun removes the chlorine.... Tip for those who don't have time to monitor plant diets for these fussy ladies.
Beginners mistake: getting a calathea because of the looks and not knowing how fussy they can be. You have to be 0 to 💯 experience with plants real quick.
I can't imagine to live in a place where the humidity only 20-25%. I live in Indonesia where the humidity is around 80-90% everyday. In few days of the year, it reaches 60% and I feel like my skin is drying up. I just bought Calathea Ornata today and search for how to taking care of it, so thanks for the video! If humidity is its biggest struggle, I hope mine won't have that kind of problem.
Hi Christian, just wanted to say that out of all the plant people I follow, you are.the most happiest, friendly, kind crazy, fun and ofcourse KNOWLEDGABLE plant coinousor! I don't know if I can say that bahahaha...thank you so much for sharing all you expertise on plant. .my daughter thinks I'm just as.crazy as you, since I now have more than 50 houseplant. I love you
I totally agree with getting a good humidifier!! I also recently got decent humidifier and my prayer plants are doing sooooo much better and I no longer see brown tips!!
I haven’t given up on the makoyana or the lancifolia. They do really well for me, but I have no real interest in getting any other ones anymore. The rufibara, and zebrina declined really quickly after I bought them and the ornata did okay through the winter up until mid February when I gave up on it. My humidity is never under 40% even without a humidifier, but I find that if I put Calatheas anywhere except directly in front of a North facing window, they crisp up really fast. I’ll take a maranta over a Calathea any day. The little blooms are so cute and rewarding!
I got lucky with my maranta. I got a small stem as part of an arrangement. I chopped it in 1/2 so I had 2 and stuck it in soil. It grew like a weed all winter...in Michigan, no less. I think the trick might have been starting with a cutting vs a larger more established plant. I picked up a Zebrina las year and it completely died back with a couple of weeks...I transferred a few small stems with roots to self watering container with sphagnum moss and it quickly gave me 5 new leaves. I am interested in experimenting with Leca as well one of these days. I really do think there is a lot more to 'soil' moisture vs air moisture...in my experience in the midwest, anyway.
Because of all these videos, I start to get really anxious about my Calatheas hahaha (I got like 6 as a beginner, without any knowledge about them just because I liked the look). Sure, some have a tiny bit of a brown tip but it doesn't bother me too much. So as of now I have two happy Orbifolia, a Maranta, a Medallion, a Leopardina and two Musaica. Some of them get a lot, some a little less light. All of them are consistently watered with distilled water. And yes, the air's naturally moist where I live (45-60%) and I started using a moisture meter very early on because I like to overwater. I kill other plants. Ficus hate me. So maybe every plant person just has their personal plant nemesis?
Wow. I was just purchasing a humidifier for my Calatheas when I found your video, and fortunately that humidifier is sold here in Europe! Thank you for the great information! Cheers from The Netherlands!
I had given up on calatheas for a while after I killed my zebrina, rotundifolia and even a ctenanthe. Now I’m trying again with a makoyana and another zebrina, but I have them in the shadiest part of my lanai outside and so far they’re doing great! Come winter, I definitey need to step up my humidity game inside though.
Hi there! I tried purchasing the humidifier and the free spare filter but the code isn't working on Amazon right now. Is there something I'm doing wrong or did the offer end?
Hi, I’m waiting for my new humidifier to arrive home. Do you leave your windows open or are they closed all day? I’m going to set it on my bedroom but I usually have my window almost all day opened. What do you recommend me? Will the moist in the air escape? Thanks
I love Calatheas, and have gotten one or two twice because the first time I killed them, they do tend to be fussy and a bit of a diva, but they are so beautiful. I have the Elechomes humidifier in my Amazon cart, because I have been so impressed with the look and ease of using it. Thanks so much for this video Christian it has been a very helpful and enjoyable video to watch. See you soon, take care and stay safe. XOXO.
Thanks Holly. I also love Calatheas and trying my best to make them part of my plant family for a long time. The humidifier helps, make sure you get the free filter too.
Hi Christian, I have a rattlesnake plant that I've repotted 4 times and is huge in a 20 inch pot. I actually have a flower growing from the dirt, and I see 2 more coming up as well. I believe this is going to be a completely separate plant as it looks like a crown but with flowers popping out, so my question is, how do I separate it from the mother plant? Do I cut it or separate its roots from the rest of the plant? It doesn't need repotting, but I would like to separate it. Thank you in advance for your help!
My calcathea leaves are turning brown. I am misting and i am using pebble tray and i am using rain wtaer too. And its away from window. Its placed on shady place. Can yiu advise what is the reason.
Im a new crazy plant lady over here lol and love your videos they are so helpful I’ve been keeping my two calatheas in the shower bathroom so far and they’re doing well! I made them a humidity tray 🤪🌱
I just picked up the peacock (makoyana) and beauty star (ornata) yesterday and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I walked into a plant shop looking for a snake plant and walked out with 2 Calatheas and a snake plant. The plant shop gal told me the calatheas would do well in low-light and I thought great, my north facing bedroom could use some beauty! I misted my caltheas before work this morning (something I'd read last night was okay - but now seeing maybe not?). Got home this morning to my peacock plant having a couple leaves that are browning and curling on the edges. The Calathea ornata still looks perfect. I inspected the plants pretty thoroughly before purchasing them so I'm thinking the browning happened over the course of today. My home is typically 50% humidity (just checked the thermostat and it's exactly 50% RH), the temperature inside is anywhere from 68-72 F, and today was sunny but with my north facing window and how far I had it from the window there's no way it was in direct light. I'm not sure what could be the problem. The soil is still moist, the plant shop seemed to thoroughly water them. I haven't don't any additional watering yet as my finger test doesn't indicate it's time. Any tips or recommendations?
I made the beginner mistake of adopting a calathea makoyana and the tips are already starting to brown a little. I'm taking all your advice but how do I revive the leaves that have brown tips (covers ~20% of the leaf)? Is it better for me to cut the whole leaf off or is there a better way they can go back to a healthy state?
Halo cristian, im sorry for this late comment,i’m new on this plant world got my blacklipstick calathea, maranta, zebrina guess what?? All of them got crispy on the edge of the leave with my care eventho i already mist them every twice a day, and the soil moist already, so sad to see those plants, i would like to know do you use an aromatherapy on your humidifier? & how many time do you fertilize your calathea?
Hi..i separated my peace lilly plant cuz it was getting too big..i separated the plants and potted them up..1 plant per pot ..but they are droopy..i check the moisture and its fine..just don't know if I did something wrong?I miss the fullness now of the plant..so I'm hoping they will grow back and become thicker again..what do you think?Thank you
well, we are all "good" with different types of plants, having nothing to do with our skill level but just the location we live in. calathea and all prayer plants just naturally do great in my home, since my humidity is always 50 - 60% just naturally. i don't have to do anything, it's just there. you might think i have a green thumb...except plants that require a lot of bright light die, die, die here because the sun just doesn't shine, haha. just add aquarium water conditioner to your plant water. cheap, easy way to eliminate chlorine and heavy metals... i don't know why people don't know about this. Assuming most plant people aren't fish people too.
Hi Christian, I have a Calathea makoyana. It was doing fine until I gave them a tiny bit of fertiliser and it started to unfurl pale leaves. I’m not sure if it’s the fertiliser or was it something else that make those new leaves pale. Any idea?
I have prayer plant I got a 4-inch pot back at the end of summer I believe and it grows the bloom out but then one died so I only have three leaves is there something I can do or is it too cold or need more humidity
I stopped using humidifiers because they were so dang hard to clean! Trying to get out the slime (mold)? Out of the crevices and corners was a PIA. Using a Q-Tip didn’t get all the crud. How hard is it to clean this humidifier?? That is the key to buying one! All the other features are great too, but how to clean??? I don’t have a humidifier now and my humidity in winter was 33%-38%. My calathias (2, I bought before I knew better) I put near south facing window and used tap water but they had drying leaf tips. Found out about distilled water requirement so bought it and moved plant further back into room on a pebble tray, keep moist (PIA) but no more brown leaf tips. I have to admit....I shower with my plants. Mostly with the calathias and a croton....Rambling, bye....
Mike all humidifier you’ll have to clean by removing the parts (lid, air channel, water tank and screw but) and running then in water and using the small brush that comes with it. Seems pretty simple personally for me.
Cool. Thanks for sharing your Calathea experience. I find the cleaning of this pretty simple since you only have to remove a few parts (kid, air channel, tank and screw but) and running it under water and using the mini brush that came with it.
Crazy Plant Guy I was using city water in the Midwest (USA) and definitely could not clean my humidifier by simply flushing with water and using a brush because there were too many little crevices/corners to address. Maybe your new humidifier insides are easy to clean. Please let me know in six months or so if you still feel it is easy to clean. Does your humidifier specify distilled water? Or a special water treatment?
I never realized they were so fussy! I love calatheas and they are doing great. I just don't use tap water and I will definitely get some worm castings. They are growing great and this is without fertilizer. It was so hot in my house in the room where I had one of them (85+ degrees F with 80%+ humidity) and had to take that one outside. Now the calathea freddie is doing great outside, out of direct sunlight, of course, otherwise he would fry. I actually need de-humidifiers in the house. Now my prince of orange philodendron is another story, he does NOT like the high heat and high humidity. Had to throw him outside too, have my fingers crossed.
I have 2 in separate pots one of them don't even fold at night do you know why? Compared to the other one it is more bushy and shorter. The other one is taller and at night folds..
Just received my Calathea White Fusion yesterday! Gorrrrrgeous! Waiting for my Vittata and Beauty Star to arrive! I'm slightly addicted and will need a bigger bathroom to keep all the kids in! Lol
gotta love the variety! ranging from the more suble elegance of a rufibarba, to something as flashy and almost uneal looking as a dottie. i never had much trouble with calatheas, for one simple simple reason: 4 aquariums im my room. so i have fairly high humidity, and an ample supply of soft, bioligically nitrate enriched water, they seem to like. i also found, that calatheas really benefit from a bit of handling .. so dont be shy to ruffle them a bit when you walk by. =') the one thing to watch out for are spider mites. those can absolutely ravage varieties with more tender leaves, in a matter of 2-4 weeks. i fought the acute infestation with pyrethrine, but i can highly recommend to sprinkle some neem press cake to the soil every month or so, to make them less appealing to mites. occasional preventive spraying with neem oil cant hurt either, and it gives the leaces a really nice shine.
I have a rattle snake calathea from Home Depot that is thriving in my relatively dry house.. not sure if it was just well acclimated by the grower, it’s a particularly tough strain or of the rattlesnake calatheas are less sensitive! But it could be worth a shot if somebody is just dying for a prayer plant!
I can't get a humidifier but right now the humidity in my house is at 53%. That would be enough right? I usually stay away from the humidity loving plants but I needed a Calathea!
Thank you for your video! Calathea Zebrina is my first plant! And I am not giving up on her, I named it Cindy. :) How I wish there is Elechomes here in my place!
Hi! I recently bought a calathea makoyana and I have noticed that the leaves don't close at night? It seems to be healthy with humidity levels being decent, the soil being moist and there is also new growth. So, I was wondering if I missed something? It is currently sitting in an area with medium-bright indirect sunlight. Thank you in advance!
I do agree with you on calatheas. I Killed 3 last year. I was about to give up on them. Till I saw furry feather Calathea ( calathea Rufibarba). I hated my old humidifier. Having to turn upside down to add water. So in February I got a humidifier Similar to the one you have. Got it off Amazon. My calathea, is liking it. Along with other steps of care.
Hi Christian, good to see you. I had a calathea for months, then work got full on and I forgot to water her, just once. She got spider mite and I couldn't shift them! That was the end of that. 😩
Calatheas are a plant I don't seem to have any trouble with for some reason despite living in a cool climate, which surprised me when I got them a couple of years ago. I've got several and thought I'd have trouble with them but I've had none whatsoever. I find they don't like too much love so mine get watered when needed with rain or distilled water, a half strength feed of a liquid food once a month when they're actively growing (I use a product called Charlie Carp and all my plants, particularly the calatheas just do so well with it) and they're in in fairly low light. I did used to use a my humidifier for them. In fact I bought it specifically for the calatheas but because they're in a large group of plants I find the humidity stays high enough (above 60%. I use a humidity reader) that they love it and I've not used the humidifier for a long time for them. Other than they get pretty much ignored and they're looking beautiful with no crisping and growing like mad even though it's coming into winter where I am. I happy to say I've yet to lose a calathea (lost plenty of other plants though!) and hopefully it stays that way.
I definitely plan on buying this humidifier. I see you used tap water, is there any benefit to using distilled water instead? I water mine with rain or distilled water. I also saw at one point, you had the plants in some sort of plastic housing like an indoor greenhouse maybe, is this necessary? Thanks in advance. These calathea are giving me a run for my money, but I’m determined to make it work. I have a cheap little cool mist humidifier now but I’m willing to upgrade. My medallion is giving me the most trouble.
I totally understand the love hate relationship with This plant I love them they're beautiful But mines keep dying I think the 2 biggest Thing I was doing is too much light And the water Thanks for your help One thing I have to ask If I take the tap water and set it out for a week or 2 Can I use it Or do I still have to use distilled water
Hey there. As a fellow calathea killer, I gave mine too much water and it died within 3 days lol. I had it for over a year and it was so luscious... but anyways, the thing about setting out tapped water is such a lie. I know everyone on tiktok and stuff talk about it, but unless it's in direct sunlight it won't do anything & who even has the time to wait for the sun to kill whatever chemicals are in it. You should just boil the water and let it cool down. As you do with sea water to evaporate the salts when camping and stuff.
I just ordered one of those humidifiers for my home. Of course I will know more about how it works when I get it. So far I have not killed any of my Calatheas, fingers crossed.
Hello. I hope you are doing fine:-) I would really appreciate if you could answer me on this question. I want to buy calathea white star or calathea flamestar. Which one can you recommend me to get? Do you now maybe which one is less sensitive from these two? I am not a beginner just so you now. I have couple of prayer plants, but i have no experience on these two calatheas.:-/
Shawn Nazareth hmm it may hell but not as good as rain or distilled water. Because most tap water now use chloromine which has chlorine but doesn’t evaporate from sitting water.
I’m that idiot that got a Calathea makoyana (and a number of other humidity loving plants) for my bedroom and kept my bedroom at 50-65% humidity, 75-79 degrees, often times with no fan/air circulation (except at night sleeping). Then discovered mold and weird orange looking mold growing on some of my plants top soil... Lol! Was so worried about the humidity, it created the perfect environment for mold to grow. Now I keep it at 40-50%, with all my humidity loving plants together, on individual pebble trays, with a small terra cotta looking humidifier from target, with my fan on, and they all seem to be doing fine. My Calathea keeps shooting out new growth! I have all my plants right in front of a north facing window.
I love calatheas!! I am ocd and suffer with anxiety, the fussiness of these plants feels right at home with me! I check on them 6-8 times a day, have a 2 gallon humidifier i fill once daily and they are thriving in a north facing window! I love how they speak to you- and you can tell on the new growth and size of leaves if they agree with your environment! Mine are happy!
I bought a moisture meter just for my ornata and maranta lemon lime, I have a hard time distinguishing that moist but not wet sweet spot to water! Hoping this and buying a humidifier helps. =) Thanks for the tips!
Ok, I need your help!!! 😇😇😇 I have the gadget (moisture, pH, light) from one of your videos...My question is: Mine reads 77 degrees farenheit/ 74% Wet 😐 (that's the emoji on the device, not me...lol) What in the world does that mean? Is that good or bad for tropical houseplants and/or most houseplants? If I'm doing something wrong could you please tell me how to adjust or what to adjust to!!! Sorry for my ignorance!!! You're the best person to ask!!! Your help is needed and much appreciated!!!
You’re temp is good. The 74% humidity may be too high depends if you have that level everyday and all day. I usually like to have mine around 50 - 60% ...the again it depends where you live and if you’re using a humidifier to increase your humidity?!
I just tried purchasing with these codes and the vendor will not honor them. Very disappointing. 😕 However! I love your videos. Thanks for all the useful info. 😊
I am a beginer but i have more than 4 maranta familiy( triostar, magicstar, leopardinda, leuconera, kercoveana, compacta). i dare to say that they are not so dramatic. i water them in the summer season like twice a week in terracota pot. Terracota because i dont want to overwater them. and the key is the light but not direct light. I don't have a humidifier but they are triving. They are my preferate plants. good luck with them.
Hi... I am from Malaysia... Warm and humid weather... Lately my calathea seems no healthy... Her leaves turned brownish.... I keep her 15feet from direct sunlight outside my bedroom.... I water her with filtered water.... And stuck my finger into the soil to check every twice a week...
Hi Christian, I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative and helpful. Before I make this purchase I have a question. How often and how long do you run your humidifier? I know there are a number of variables but, I would like to know. Thanks
It depends on your current humidity levels. I like to keep mine between 40-50 so where I live I run it for about 2-4 hours everyday. If it rains I’ll only run it for a couple of hours since the rain helps increase my humidity levels. It’s really depends where you live also. I also recommend getting a hygrometer that will help measure your humidity anywhere in your home.
Before watching (but I so will 😂) apparently in 🇫🇮 growing light 16/8h, steady 23 Celsius with central heating , 40-45% RH and watering when almost bone dry with tap water. Oh and occasionally getting slaughtered by cats. Trio- and magicstar, makoyana and two something’s with fuzzy leaves. Growing like weeds 🙈
No. I have not given up on Calathea. My lancifolia has never given me any problems and I have had her for about a year and a half. My rufibarba is easy going. I have had problems with my warscetwzii and Maui queen. My Ctenanthe and I have reached an understanding. My Stromanthe triostar “diva”, I have accepted that she will never be perfect. My three Marantas are happy. I love Marantacae! Great tips- humidity and water!
Very informative! Just a Q, can I use osmocote (pebble like fertilizer, a slw release one) on it?

I buy my first calathea leopardina a month ago, I did all wrong guys 😭 I saw her this morning and then I watched at few videos including yours. I gonna try to save her tonight. I think I gave her to much light, no enough water, and I didn’t clean her enough. Yea, all wrong 😑
I love calathea but they always seem to have issues. The humidity is fine, but I'm still trying to figure out watering. I also have pest issues: spider mites and thrips.
Yikes. I’ve never experience the spider mites or thrips on Calatheas, but those bugs you want to contain and make sure it doesn’t spread to your other plants. Good luck.
i have luck with vittata and freddie. killed medallion and a couple of others. your pad must be as warm n humid as manila. have you tried white star or fusion white?
Mine has somehow has survived. I have a stromanthe w red, rattlesnake plant and they are still alive and kicking. I only water if about dry. I keep on my porch outside is more humid since I live in FL.
I have 6 Calathea and so far they are behaving themselves lol but they have crispy edges 😑 it’s time for me to moved to the forest with my Calathea! Lol

Suffers in crazy humidity so calathea remains alive
lol
Put your tap water outside in a bucket for a day or two. The sun removes the chlorine.... Tip for those who don't have time to monitor plant diets for these fussy ladies.
Beginners mistake: getting a calathea because of the looks and not knowing how fussy they can be.
You have to be 0 to 💯 experience with plants real quick.
Bwahaha, 0 to 💯 Yup we’ve all gone through that beginner mistake.
Definitely not what I've done this lockdown 😂
Samiha Tahsin same 😂
Sameeee
Yes these plants are my lockdown obsession and I should probably give them some alone time.🤣
I can't imagine to live in a place where the humidity only 20-25%.
Hi Christian, just wanted to say that out of all the plant people I follow, you are.the most happiest, friendly, kind crazy, fun and ofcourse KNOWLEDGABLE plant coinousor! light watering every 2 days and minimum 2 humidifiers in between them - special treatment for the VIP plant 😂
Hi Crazy plant.
Do humidifier can’t cause damp ina house or not let me no please
Thank you I love all you plant
I'm so glad you recommended a humidifier! I have been searching for a year for a good one that wasn't crazy expensive!! Thank you so much!!!
You should do a video on grow lights.
Wow. I was just purchasing a humidifier for my Calatheas when I found your video, and fortunately that humidifier is sold here in Europe! Thank you for the great information! Cheers from The Netherlands!
How about a self watering pot? Is it advisable to use?
I had given up on calatheas for a while after I killed my zebrina, rotundifolia and even a ctenanthe. Now I’m trying again with a makoyana and another zebrina, but I have them in the shadiest part of my lanai outside and so far they’re doing great! Come winter, I definitey need to step up my humidity game inside though.
Hi there! I tried purchasing the humidifier and the free spare filter but the code isn't working on Amazon right now. Is there something I'm doing wrong or did the offer end?
You have to place the order together (humidifier and filter) and use the two codes together. There’s instruction in the FAQ in the comment section.
I had the same problem. I added the codes separately after both items are in my cart. Hope this helps?
Thanks
I ordered it, and I am very pleased with the efficiency of this humidifier.!
The tank is awesome 👏🏻
And very easy to fill.!
Which is best for plants during the winter months cool or warm mist
I love calatheas, the pattern print on the leaves & the color. STUNNING!
Hi, I’m waiting for my new humidifier to arrive home. Do you leave your windows open or are they closed all day? I’m going to set it on my bedroom but I usually have my window almost all day opened. What do you recommend me? Will the moist in the air escape? Thanks
So excited for the discount! This humidifier has been on my wishlist - thank you so much! And knowing that you love it is also great too.
Do you get black mould on the walls? Mould thrives on high humidity.
If you get some lighting in your bathroom, Calatheas will do great. They are literally the perfect pant to have in a bathroom with some light
Yeah they are tricky. You can leave the brown edges or cut them off. Really preference at that point.
@@CrazyPlantGuy Thank you for your reply!
Any idea?
Hmm possibly the fertilizer, depends how strong they were and if your diluted it, or possible over watering?
Crazy Plant Guy alright, thanks for the advice!
How often do you clean your humidifier and its filter? And, is it easy to disassemble for cleaning?
I have the same question. What are the cleaning instructions for this humidifier
Crazy Plant Guy having trouble finding the amazon link to it?
Yeah they are for most people, but sounds like you live in a good climate for them to thrive. 😊
Lol
All Prayer Plants grow wonderfully for me. Humidity is usualy around 50% in summer and 75% in winter. I live near a rainforest.
Oh wow. Definitely your prayer plants are happy with that kind of humidity levels. I wish I lived near a rainforest 😊🌿
@@CrazyPlantGuy it's a silver lining to the fact that all of our houses have mold lol
Callum Purvis 😬....right...😅
Does cool mist still work well for Calatheas?? I have a Calathea Makoyana and I don't want my room to feel like a sauna in the summer.
Question.. does the humidifier make the floors and furniture wet?
gotta love the variety! ranging from the more suble elegance of a rufibarba, to something as flashy and almost uneal looking as a dottie.
i never had much trouble with calatheas, for one simple simple reason: 4 aquariums im my room. so i have fairly high humidity, and an ample supply of soft, bioligically nitrate enriched water, they seem to like. i also found, that calatheas really benefit from a bit of handling .. so dont be shy to ruffle them a bit when you walk by. =')
the one thing to watch out for are spider mites. those can absolutely ravage varieties with more tender leaves, in a matter of 2-4 weeks. i fought the acute infestation with pyrethrine, but i can highly recommend to sprinkle some neem press cake to the soil every month or so, to make them less appealing to mites. occasional preventive spraying with neem oil cant hurt either, and it gives the leaces a really nice shine.
I do remember that the rattle snake did last the longest for me when I had my Calatheas last year, I still found them to be tricky .but love them.
Hello! Can i boil the tap water for the calathea???
I can't get a humidifier but right now the humidity in my house is at 53%. That would be enough right? I usually stay away from the humidity loving plants but I needed a Calathea!
Whats the plant behind you where the red pot is hanging from?
I'm too stubborn to give up on my calatheas 😂 (no matter how many failures I have. 💔)
Haha I’m the same...not ready to give up on them, even if they keep breaking my heart. 😅
Thank you for your video! Calathea Zebrina is my first plant! And I am not giving up on her, I named it Cindy. :) How I wish there is Elechomes here in my place!
With all that moisture r u concerned about mold?
where do you get all the white flower pots???
What do you do to keep your tineke from browning? I have a lot of ficus elastica and the tineke is the worst. My others have no brown spots
That’s great. My furry feather is also doing really well. 😊
I got this humidifier last month after seeing your vlog and a few other plant vlogs. Love it! I wish I had it before my Calathea freaked out lol
That’s awesome. Then Calatheas are hard to please but a humidifier will help a lot. 😆
Hi Christian, good to see you. I had a calathea for months, then work got full on and I forgot to water her, just once. She got spider mite and I couldn't shift them! That was the end of that. 😩
Hi Linda. Calatheas are so unforgiving at times but those spider mites. Yikes. 😬
My. One the leafs are curling I water once a month and its kept in my bathroom
Thanks for sharing your experience and care tips Megan. This is helpful for us and will definitely try some do your methods. 😊🌿💚
What is the name of the humidifier that you use it's beautiful I'd like to get one for my plans
Elechomes the link is in the description below the video.
Thanks for this video! It’s great!
Always good to use distilled or rain water even in humidifiers if you have them readily available. Just more pure and Calatheas are so sensitive.
Crazy Plant Guy got it, thanks for replying so quickly! 😊
What is the humidifiers
I just ordered one of those humidifiers for my home. Of course I will know more about how it works when I get it. So far I have not killed any of my Calatheas, fingers crossed.
That’s awe down that you haven’t killed on. 🤞🏼 hope you never do and the humidity still help for sure.
Hello. I hope you are doing fine:-)
I would really appreciate if you could answer me on this question. I want to buy calathea white star or calathea flamestar. Which one can you recommend me to get? Do you now maybe which one is less sensitive from these two? I am not a beginner just so you now. I have couple of prayer plants, but i have no experience on these two calatheas.:-/
Can I use tap water, by sitting it over a week before use?
Shawn Nazareth hmm it may hell but not as good as rain or distilled water. Because most tap water now use chloromine which has chlorine but doesn’t evaporate from sitting water.
I do this and my plants are thriving. I just dont do calethea
Thank, I have to buy distilled water then.
My life goal is to move back to the tropics and have more plant babies! For now I'll deal with my fussy ferns. Great video!
Me tooooo. The older I get the more I just want to move to the tropics. 😆
I tried melting snow last winter and everything went perfect...next winter should be good and not as much snow in the yard.
That’s good to know. I’m definitely going collect rainwater and snow now. 😆
Whats the name of the plant behind you on the right in the white pot with the pinkish leaves? I'm in love!
Ficus Elastica Ruby.
Bro what about boiled water...? n wait till it gets to room temperature u think it’s fine?
Does the code just not work anymore? I was so excited to get a discount on something that'll be useful lol.
How to know by touch the thin line between “moist” / “wet“
Or “moist”/ “not moist”
@@CrazyPlantGuy can you post a link to the gadget? Id like know my "indoor weather".
Thank you for reviewing this! I'm purchasing with your codes today. Also just bought another Calathea because you gave me some hope lol!!
🤞🏼 good luck with your Calatheas. It rained yesterday so i was able to collect some..lol
The code doesn’t seem to work for me. Were you able to get it to work?
I just tried purchasing with these codes and the vendor will not honor them. Very disappointing. 😕
However! I love your videos. Thanks for all the useful info. 😊
What is the music in your intro?
Any advice? Thanks
This answered the question, thank you s very much👍
Before watching (but I so will 😂) apparently in 🇫🇮 growing light 16/8h, steady 23 Celsius with central heating , 40-45% RH and watering when almost bone dry with tap water. Oh and occasionally getting slaughtered by cats. Trio- and magicstar, makoyana and two something’s with fuzzy leaves. Growing like weeds 🙈
Thank u just ordered mines from amazon can’t wait yayy!!!😃👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
That’s awesome and I like how you shared accepting that they will never be perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Why do calatheas fold up their leaves at night? Can anyone give a scientific explanation?
Do you really use tap water in your humidifier? I thought distilled water was required to keep it from building up minerals. Thank you.
I have to be diligent with cleaning but yes recommended to use filtered water which I’m sure I’ll need to do more often. I just need another Britta 😆
Excellent video
I just bought one ,my plants will love it. Thanks
Awesome. My place is so much comfortable. Plants happy, I’m happy. 😊
Omg I feel the same way - love them but have killed off way too many 😂 I just got a new rattlesnake calathea, so wish me luck lol
Haha...may the odds be ever in your favor. 😆

Good luck.
