I LOVE HOYAS! I have at least 20 or 25! I remember when I first started watching your channel, you were in that stage of not really liking Hoyas a whole lot. I was surprised, but completely happy to see this pop-up!
The princess varies from cream to white. Mine looks like yours. That's not sunstrss, that's how the new leaves come in. A lot of the variegated ones like the Tricolor wayetti and the compacta the leaves come in with a pink hue. Your compacta is GORGEOUS! 💚
Some Hoyas flower even when they are very small, I've had small 2 or 3 inch Hoyas bloom within 6 months of purchase. Some take forever I've had a crimson Queen and Princess for years and haven't seen any blooms same with the Publicalix. My Multiflora looks like a bush and won't stop blooming it's crazy.
My H. C. Krimson Princess has a slightly yellow cast to newer leaves too. Also brand new leaves come in pink (it is not sun stressed). The leaves don't get "big". My late mother have a beautiful one 30 years ago. I adore my H. Australia 'Lisa"! I bought a tiny unrooted cutting (now rooted, but just sitting there) of the H. Heuschkeliana inner varigated. It is my understanding that this hoya is often very difficult to grow. However if it grows for you, it is gorgeous.
Claire, from The Jungle Haven channel, got me into Hoyas and away from only succulents. I’ve quickly jumped from Krimson Queen to Hoya Caudata Sumatra (it’s on my wish list!)
.. I'm not a fan of Hoyas with big leaves.. Still I've got a Hoya Pubicalyx 'Silver Splash', that I love.. She is in my bedroom window, west side, and seem to enjoying it all.. The window is a wee shaded by a mosquito net, that also protect a bit from the harsh sun rays in the afternoon.. And that seems to be perfect when they don't like direct sun, but prefer semi shade.. .. My Krohniana Super Silver who was nothing but a baby, 1 inch pot, when I first got her is my absolute favorite.. She was really cute and I had her on my plant shelf in front of my garden door, west side.. Only few months later, this spring, I moved her into my bedroom window, gave her a 2 inch pot, and a hanger.. Since then she's been growing like the devil was coming to get her, and her flowers are like magic.. The sweetest scent of vanilla, not very strong, but enough to have you puzzled if it really does smell of vanilla or not.. She is absolutely adorable, only now I have to figure out how to propagate her, as she really needs a "hair cut".. I can use the cuttings to fill out the other side of the pot.. .. The genus (Hoya) was named in modern latin in honor of English gardener and botanist Thomas Hoy who lived from 1750 to 1822..
I'm pretty sure that the super silver and POSSIBLY, the black margins don't sunstress. There are quite a few hoyas that aren't sunstressable. I found that out the hard way too! 🤦♀️ Steve's Leaves and Unsolicited Plants have amazing care instructions for all of the plants they sell in the listing description and it will say if a hoya is sunstressable or not.
I found the lacunosa very easy to bloom. Within half a year of potting up some cuttings. Also a beautifull hoya multiflora that tried to bloom from the first month when still a small cutting ( first 2 peduncles failed, but is now opening 3rd one)
That Wilber Graves is stunning. I have the China, but it does not have that much silver. I bought it as a cutting. I also have another cutting that has more silver, but the seller did not say if it was Russia or China. Neither is as pretty as the one you pictured. They are very pricey. Yes, I went down that rabbit hole. I have many, many Hoyas. I put them outside during this growing season and they have grown so much.
You must have the Lisa! She is so cute! Grow her around a round to keep her “small” I have several because I want to see one in every room :-) thanks for sharing
The Lisa is one of my favorites. I bought several and planted in one pot. I want to buy everyone I see. I have another that I was going to add to that pot. I like your idea. Now I will put it in a different room.

My Hoya Carnosa Krimson Princess looks exactly like yours. Mine has a creamy/yellowy variegation too and, as is typical of Krimson Princess', some of my leaves have reverted back to solid green. My Krimson Queen, by comparison, has more of a white variegation. I have a lacunosa too and mine has beautiful subtle dimpling on the leaves. My Australis Lisa is one of my favourites. The leaves are absolutely stunning!
Hoya don’t have to be slow growers. I root in moss mixed with perlite, then transplant to tree fern fibre. The cuttings also need plenty of light (like morning sun or a growlight) and warmth. Keep the medium moist, don’t let it dry out completely. Most Hoya cuttings will start growing vines and leaves for me within a month or 2. I have put a few Hoya in a soil mixture (cocopeat/moss/perlite) they are significantly slower in otherwise the same conditions. (of course everyone has their preferred rooting method and for some moss just doesnt work)
I avoided the Hoya Curtisii because I erroneously thought it would behave like the “string of things” type plants, which for my environment are a total PIA. I had the opportunity to toss one in my basket and maintain the same shipping amount and am SO GLAD I did! I have it in a south facing window and it is lovely sun stressed and it doesn’t lose leaves and is one of my easiest hoyas! Drea, thanks for the Hoya video!
Love admiring your Curtisii! Now I’m leaning toward this one over the Krohniana.. Also your Wayetii Tricolor, another of my wishlisters, but I shied away. Good to know yours grows a bit faster than expected.😊🌿🕊️💓
Can you share a video with me or link one that shows what you do when you buy a plant and integrate it into your home. Your pest process, how long should we keep them quarantined, etc. I have been searching for this information. I am new to your channel and am grateful that I found you. I have subscribed to you and look forward to continue to watch your videos.
I think the point around the confusion between krohniana and lacunosa is that, rather stupidly, growers gave the krohniana common names like 'Heart-Leafed lacunosa'. There's also a lacunosa with a cultivar name 'krohniana black'. I'm not surprised people mix up these two species.
Hey Andrea! I just had to break up and mini pot a Hoya compacta var. into mini pots for a plant swap last night. Loooots of work, mini roots 😅. But I had to due to that over drenched big box store soil 😂.
I was saying that the Lisa can get rather large leaves, but yes, bigger than the princess. I believe my Lisa's leaves are also bigger than my Queen's leaves as well.
I'm a fairly new plant 🌵 mom, and I don't have a whole lot of plants. I have several different ones, but I don't own a Hoya...yet anyway. I like the first Goya you showed.😊
Oh Hoyas 💚I recently purchased a Hindu rope.. which was on my wish list for a long time! Love it! Very succulent like. I also got the wayetti variegata, beautiful! I’ve had an australis for about 9 months and it was labeled a “fast grower” and I saw nothing and suddenly this summer it absolutely took off!! It’s like doubled in size! I’ve had a tricolor for the same time and it finally has a new teeny tiny leaf ! 😂 my Hoya wishlist consists of the retusa.. however if the stems are brown like you talked about I’ll probably go linearis. Love the Hoyas! 💚💚 beautiful collection Drea!
I recently got a Hoya Carnosa Crimson Princess. I have it a couple feet from a south window. Not sure if that is too much light but looking good so far. I was wondering where you have yours.
@AlohaPlantLife great. I have mostly southern windows so glad to hear it! The windows are designed with a properly sized overhang so that direct sun comes in during the winter but not in summer when the sun is high.
Loved all your Hoya’s. I didn’t like them at first but now I’m hooked.I have a green Compactor and yes it’s so slow. Wilbur Graves is also on my wishlist.. 🪴👌🏻 Natalie
I don't think there is an all green wayetii, only sheperdeii. I have a mature wayetii probably 4 x the size of yours in a 10.5 in hanging basket. It's huge and has layers and layers of leaves. It's goregeous! The leaves in good light develop maroon-brown leaf margins. Definitely provides much interest. The downside is the general absence of flowers but I don't even care.
I’m curious where you purchase your Hoyas from, local or online? I can never find such healthy plants like you have. Can you recommend starting with a particular size plant, that will give a better shot of successfully growing at home? Thanks so much😊
I bought all of mine locally at various different stores. None of them were shipped. They’ve all done well for me, but like I said in the video, some just grow faster than others. When it comes to small leaf Hoya, I feel like they start to grow more quickly than the larger leaf ones, so I am ok buying those as like 4 inch plants, but for the ones that are slightly larger leafed too very large leafed, I personally think it would be best to start with at least a 6 inch plant.
I'm not a huge hoya fan. I have a Compacta and Crimson Queen. Just bought a Wayetii. We must have the same taste in plants! I want a Linearus but am having a hard time finding one right now😮
Is the Khroniana silver and super silver the same? I have a black and she's amazing. Also the princess leaves won't get bigger. You won't Luke the queen lol, the princess is honestly favorite of the two even though is my princess
Question I got a bunch of wayetiii cuttings and put them in a moss prop box. Is that a mistake? They are in a cabinet as well. There were lots of dry aerial roots I’m hoping do something. The stems are very skinny, brown and dry. If any of this makes sense. Any tips? Just wait patiently perhaps for progress?
I’ve personally never propagated them that way but I know other people who do. If you’re worried about it maybe move some of them to water as a back up
First of all...I truly don't know why I'm just now asking this and not sure if I missed the answer on another video...where did the name "Aloha Plant Life" come from? You said something about you should know a name or something because of the name of your channel or something. Secondly, I had the Australis Lisa (it didn't ship well so I only had it briefly) but I also do have and have had for a while, the green form Australis. The leaves aren't huge and I don't think they get super huge but mine isn't super mature so I can't say for sure. Also, my Pubicaliyx gets super splashy when it's getting decent lighting while a new leaf is coming in. Mine sun stresses to a pink on the splashy spots. Lastly, girl! The Wilbur Graves is sooo on my wish list too! Thanks for another lovely video

Let the hoyas stay in the same pot until they are completely root bound. Once they're root bound, they will bloom and stay in bloom for a long time. Hoyas don't like to be repotted so you might just want to pot that linearis cutting right now. 🤣🤣
I think it's pronounced Hoysh-kay-lee-awnah. I've sung lots of Latin in choirs.😅 I'm a native Dutch (Flemish variant) speaker, and I also speak French and German.
