My grandparents were from Dundee. In 1919 they came to South Africa. They had two daughters and my Dad Charles William McCulloch. During world war two my father was in Kimberley Regiment. He saw active duty in the desert against Rommel. Then onto Italy. Sadly Charles only had two daughters. My Mother was a Boer lady tough as the climate in SA. Sadly my grandparents died when I was tiny. Would have loved to have known my McCulloch grandparents. Dundee I will never see you but thanks for the sturdy folk you raised. I am very proud of my Scots and Boer blood. Warriors we are. Estelle Rachel Boy

Nice vid about a much maligned city. Dundee is a great place ( not without problems shared by all cities) and well worth a visit. If you want to see the real Scotland and not the tartan tat served up to tourists, this is the place.
Awesome to see your love for the buskers! His version of Chris Isaacs’ “Don’t want to Fall in Love” was pretty ok!👌🏼But the band in the restaurant was awesome. 👏👏
I was thinking of visiting, but a lot of the films on here, made by locals, are really critical of the place, focusing on major drug issues. They also often poke fun at the ugliness of some of the architecture! It has put me off somewhat, but it is nice to see a different perspective.
Loads of people like to knock Dundee, both outsiders and the local NEGATIVE types. They always see the grass as being greener. Then say, if they moved to Glasgow, Liverpool, or Plymouth, within 3 years they'd be downing their new home city.
Richard Cramb yes, I meant that it was good of him to not focus on the V&A, overrated with not a lot to see inside, nice looking on the outside but, the inside was a very, very big disappointment.
@@mickandtrudie Just think what $80 million could have did for Dundee ! It could have created leisure facilities, facilities for older people, play areas for kids, environmental improvements, affordable housing - so many great things could have been done for Dundee with that kind of money. Wee bit too late to worry about "new" Dundee. Ald Dundee was destroyed through the ages let's say many forces. The main destruction (Wellgate, Cowgate, etc) was masterminded in the 60's/ 70's by a corrupt Local council. How stupid of us all, that Dundee is really full of nothing. I'm guessing you've been to Paris, Rome, NYC, LA, Rio etc and they are wall to wall luxury villas. and cities where you wont see one poor, or run down area.

Broughty Ferry is completely inside Dundee. It's a suburb.
It is now but it used to be separate just like lochee
