This was really helpful I wish there was a website by students where they'd rate and recommend flats and properties around the Uni so we'd know which to opt and which to avoid
Great video! Dundee is generally a very cheap place to live but avoid Belmont Flats. I had to pay £700 per month for a shared kitchen with bills included. I now pay £480 per month for the same but with a private landlord. The uni knows students who are moving far away will be more enticed to pay the full price, even though it isn't worth the £700. Uni accommodation is a rip off. Don't fall for it!
hi Jonathan, please which of the accommodation is more cheaper and okay to choose from because I wouldn't want to be paying so much for accommodation as I am a new student.
Many thanks for posting these videos. Was in Dundee Uni mid eighties and was a good time, pre-www & pre-cell phones😊 I had a full grant so accommodation was paid in full and House of Residence was an old street leading up to the Union,,,,,looks like it doesn't nowadays run as accommodation.

I’m so glad I found your videos. Many of the buildings I recognise from my years at Queens College Dundee in the mid 50's but it is a highly respected University in it own right these days. I would love to have had the facilities you have today. I knew the city well because I also went to school in Dundee. I love the city, but there was less in the way of guidance for the new student (bejant) at QCD. I do enjoy following your videos which bring back many happy memories. Thank you.

Love the video! I was thinking of applying to Dundee through clearing for a course in Biology although I never considered it before. But when looking at the rankings for Biology I was surprised to see it in third place! This is despite it being around the 30th place in the UK. Would you happen to know if the graduate prospects are good? Like, the likelihood of getting a job?
Go for it! Thinking of my graduating class, lots of us went into Masters and PhD courses. Some went into lab tech, pharma industry and science publishing. There is quite a bio-science cluster around Dundee and I know start-ups supported by UoD and ScotGov. Also people in my year changed tack a wee bit from what you might typically think, going into insurance, policy, finance. Best of luck!
Hello Emma, thank you very much for your wonderful video. Can you also make a video and tell us how to use the Dundee's student portal. I feel it is so confusing ...
Hello, thank you very much for your video. Is it possible to make another one guiding students regarding renting as a student. I’m planning to start my studies this September but rent scams are scarring me as I am an international student.
@@nehatotani193 Hello! I’ve actually had to defer my plans to January of next year as I faced a family emergency recently. I’d still benefit from any additional guidance you could provide. Thanks for responding by the way
thank you this was helpful.:) I am looking at first year accommodation and wanted to ask if anyone you know who stayed at west park missed out on the social aspect of dundee uni ??? ( i am going to study medicine)
Westpark is about 30 minutes walk from main campus. Most of the shops, pubs and all of the nightlife are towards campus or further east. I think Belmont & Heathfield are right in the centre of uni social life (being so close to the union & gym). There are very regular buses from main campus to Ninewells. Also the walk from Westpark to Ninewells is uphill. If you're super social, I'd say Belmont or Heathfield. Westpark was still social, but just that wee bit out of the center of things.
Thank you so much for this! I’m an Indian student and was planning on coming for Sustainability and Environmental Modelling, if you have anything about that and about how it really is, because I also got offers from Bristol, Sheffield, Cardiff and Aberdeen, it’ll be really really helpful! Thank you!
Dear sister I'm planing to get admission as a international student in university in dundee thats why kindly guide me about living expenses like room rent?
Hello, it's around £300-600/ month for renting a room. The university halls are most expensive. A private let is less expensive. Additional costs include internet ~£20/month, energy bill ~£60 (divide this by number of flatmates). Also my food costs estimating ~£160/month. All numbers are a rough estimate for me, you could spend more or less. Also be warned about the price of heating with electric radiators and electric showers, it can be high. Gas heating is cheapest and most comfortable. Tall ceilings do look nice, but it'll be cold in winter. Best wishes finding a place!
Hlo mam, i have a question. I have only given name in passport. But they ask family name and given name both in CAS checklist letter. So I have written Jasleen sharma in both boxes . Is it wrong??
Do you know if any of the halls accommodation has a reputation of a being quieter? I’m thinking of going to Dundee but I could see myself really struggling it my flat mates and neighbours were very loud
When I signed up for halls I remember answering a few questions about noise levels etc so they can match you with the best possible flatmates. Belmont and Heathfield will probably be the noisiest (as they both have courtyards to echo gym noise & nightlife). I think the top of Belmont tower might be quieter, but I'm not too sure. Those three are very central. Seabraes is a 5 min walk (with a hill) away. The newer build seabraes flats I remember had nurses/postgrads and I think that would be quieter. Westpark villas I would expect to be quieter too, and it's a 30 min walk from town/campus so less nightlife. Another option could be to find a flat of older students who may be quieter (south or west of campus as the city center area to the east is noisy too). Hope you find somewhere lovely!
Thank you so much for your videos, I need to know more about jobs for students during the graduate studies, what about the part time job opportunities in Dundee during the studies? Thank you in advance 🙏💐
Hi Youness! There are lots of student jobs in Dundee. The most common job is working at the student union (DUSA). DUSA is 5 floors & has cafes, nightlife & a shop, employing lots of students. (Thinking about this more, the hours can be a little nocturnal, so for a post grad job you may prefer something calmer). There are lots of other cafes and shops nearby who employ students (on Perth Road, in the Overgate Shopping center or the city center). I'll list some specific places I know students work in if you want places to search up: Debenhams department store, Greggs bakery, Tesco supermarket, Mecca Bingo, Dukes Corner Pub, Lidl Supermarket. Part time work can come as either a set contract (I've had for example a 16 hour/week contract) or a Zero-hours contract (more flexible, but the employers don't guarantee you work, so it can be less reliable). The minimum wage is around £8.70/hour (age depending). It's illegal to pay less than than this (you can check the exact rates on gov.uk website). Hope you find something!
It depends what work you are wanting. I had friends working part time retail jobs in the city centre, lots of restaurants and pubs along Perth Road, and supermarkets/retail parks/cinemas etc further out of town! Start looking on Indeed.com or S1Jobs.com, totaljobs.com. Also double check your visa ticks the right boxes to work, make sure you get treated well! All the best in Dundee 👌
I'm in my last year in high school but the disadvantage I have is that I am an international student, so going from high school straight to UNI means I have to pay the expensive accommodation price but waiting for my ILR will give me the advantage that a normal Scottish citizen has but I want to know. I have got an offer from Stirling and Dundee and cannot choose which one I should go to.... I am an international student and would love to have your suggestions about which university to choose for an accounting and finance degree
I'm very bias as I've had a great experience with Dundee Uni, so I can give you thumbs up that Dundee would be a great choice! I did go to Stirling Uni campus twice to look around on the open days. The campus is BEAUTIFUL. It's so green with a calm loch at the heart. I'll say it's probably the most picturesque uni I've seen. And the town of Stirling is also lovely. Stirling does rate higher on the uni league tables for accounting and finance than Dundee. But Dundee rates higher for student satisfaction. I can also confirm, Dundee is a wonderful place to be a happy student. I'll also say Dundee is probably one of the most affordable places for rent and food. I think the nightlife is better in Dundee, it's a bigger city and it's better connected. But I think you should go with your gut. I remember one reason I chose Dundee Uni was because I felt really happy walking around campus on the open day. One of the students hosting the open day just had the biggest welcoming smile. I felt relaxed and I was excited about the Dundee uni. Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you. And, they're both great options! Best of luck.
@@EmmaSandy Thanks a lot for the help 💜💜💜. However I have one more question - which ranking of universities do most people in UK and the employers follow is it the Time Higher Education ranking , QS ranking , Guardian or The complete university guide. Because from what I have seen so far is that these rankings drastically differ from each other, so as someone not from the UK it is very difficult to understand which ranking should I go by ? I would really appreciate your help on this one 💞
Abertay University has an amazing reputation for video games& programming. I've been inside once being a research participant and it felt relaxed, low-key & friendly to me. Sorry I don't know much more!
Hello. I am from Kenya and I have applied to Dundee for Master's in Medical Art. Haven't gotten an offer yet but still waiting. How is the weather there and are there specific accommodation reserved for postgraduate students?
Hello Geoffrey. Good luck with your application. I've seen wonderful art from students on the Medical Art course. It has a great reputation. The weather is cold (5-10'C this month), but Dundee is one of the driest places in Scotland. You'll want to wear a good jacket outside from September to May most likely. But with enough layers of clothing, the weather is no problem :) One big difference between Kenya and Scotland will be the number of daylight hours in winter. You can get sunrise alarms which are great, and take vitamin D to make winter easier! Yes there are specific university accommodation in Heathfield (in the centre of campus, very near shops and amenities), and in Westpark (a 30 min walk west of campus). I show both of these in my "unofficial campus tour" video if you're interested to see them.
@@EmmaSandy thanks a lot for the information.I didn't get time time to finish watching the whole video but now that you've mentioned it I'll watch again today
Hi Georgi, Abertay is super close-by to UoD. It has a fab reputation for video games & the main teaching buildings are just on the north edge of the center of town (so handy for shopping!). Most people who are at Abertay stay very near in student accommodation. I knew a few folk at the Qi student accommodation. Dundee is a very studenty city (in the uni areas at least). You're going to love it! Best of luck with everything.

Thank you so much Emma! I'm a peruvian student that wants to take a master degree in Dundee (law school). I would love if you could recommend some housing or tell us the aprox cost hahaha so i won't get ripped off lol!! thank you so much :)
Yes of course! You'll probably want to look at private rents within walking distance to the main campus. I've paid £590/month for a 2 bedroom flat (2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom) and that was a good price, nice location. A 1 bedroom flat probably £450/month. If you want to share with more flatmates, there are some nice 4 bedroom houses nearby (Brook gardens/nearby) that would be about £370 per person/month. Good places to start looking would be zoopla.co.uk, citylets.co.uk. There are often single-rooms advertised on facebook groups if there is 1 room to fill in a house. Best of luck with your masters!
Honestly I'm not sure, but there are lots of jobs advertised in pubs, restaurants and shops in the city centre. You can use indeed.com to find job advertisements.
@@EmmaSandy bundle of thanks kindly tell me that its business school worth spessifically digital marketing, human resourse management and business analytics in terms of employbility rate in uk and also europe?
Probably.... haha. Especially right now. All night clubs are closed & honestly I have no idea what's happening this year due to coronavirus. There are three main clubs within walking distance to the uni: -The Union, it's 5 floors, 1 classic club, 1 sofa-type bar, one cocktail bar, one alternative club (pop nights, rock nights, specific bands etc). -Underground. Fine, but it is truly underground and you cant dance for beams being in the way. -Carbon. Pretty big, your classic circle dance floor club with VIP bits upstairs. Pretty standard. Sticky carpets. You know the type. The pubs are pretty good tho. Lots and lots of pubs with live music. Some speak easy types in town. Some amazing cocktail bars. Loads of beer events, lots of local brewerys. Hope this helps!x
Hi Alfred, I had a wee look into St Michaels and it looks like the school building was taken over by the college and then demolished in 2012 for new housing (called St Michael's Grove). There is a school reunion happening next year! th-cam.com/video/51Xd3WswEbc/w-d-xo.html
@@EmmaSandy Thank you Emma, I went to that school in 68/69. It was a tuff place. I can remember a teacher throwing a chisel at me in the woodwork class like it was a dart. I also remember a science teacher pushing my head into the gas taps in a science lab. I am glad they knocked it down I have no fond memories of the place. I am an old man now, I still continue to upgrade my education, and would advise all young people in Dundee to do the same., and then move far away from that place. All the best to you.
It's 25 minutes in the car, or 30 minutes in the bus. The road is a winding country road past villages and farming fields. There is car parking at both Dundee and St Andrews. Commuting between the two is also common.
Hey Emma, I will be moving to Dundee this fall and I am in the process of looking for private accommodation. Would it be a bother if I were to ask for some advice from you about the same. If it's not a problem, we can connect via email. Best Wishes
Hi Meraki, I don't know about that specific course, but the art school has a good reputation! I do know someone (I think their degree was digital animation?) and they've stayed in Dundee working as a video game animator. Lots of video game/ digital industry jobs in Dundee and Edinburgh!
Waz like us? and their ahh deed! Boring to listen to. You never mentioned anything about Dundee and the real people that have to stay there. You did not show any images/pictures of the Multicultural, all-inclusive overwhelming ethnic visa students from around the far, far-flung Bradford nations. You did not mention the Overwhelming Braw Dundonian accents that needed an interpreter when getting into a taxi. No Bridies or Pays (pies) or an oignion an anah. No cafe prices are included. St Andrews across the Tay is Surry and Richmond state, not Scottish. No mention of escapees from Govan sneaking into the place to be educated. Snow-Reol. Just an observation doll!

Do you already start your studies at dundee?
Does anyone know anything about Abertay University?
Abertay University has an amazing reputation for video games& programming. I've been inside once being a research participant and it felt relaxed, low-key & friendly to me. Sorry I don't know much more!
Oh. Except there is a fierce rivalry between UoDundee and Abertay Uni at sports.
You're welcome! There are time codes on the video description if you want to find specific places!
I also just got an offer and will be enrolling on a postgraduate program;)
Congrats on your offer!
Hey as someone who lives in Dundee do you have any information about Abertay university as well? I'm going to start year 1 this September.

Is dunde University has online class?
Hi Emma,Are there any rent agent we can trust?

Is there any major/ expert in sharia economic law ms?
Whats the nightlife like in Dundee. Would I be disappointed coming from London?? X
Probably.... haha. Especially right now. All night clubs are closed & honestly I have no idea what's happening this year due to coronavirus.
There are three main clubs within walking distance to the uni:
-The Union, it's 5 floors, 1 classic club, 1 sofa-type bar, one cocktail bar, one alternative club (pop nights, rock nights, specific bands etc).
@@EmmaSandy u forgot rewind 😁😁
Nice stuff☺
Is St. Michaels Reform school still open?
Hi Alfred, I had a wee look into St Michaels and it looks like the school building was taken over by the college and then demolished in 2012 for new housing (called St Michael's Grove). On my searching I did find a Facebook group you may enjoy called "St Michael's School Dundee Reunited". They shared this video recently. There is a school reunion happening next year!

How is Dundee University for law?
Hi how far it is from St Andrews?
It's 25 minutes in the car, or 30 minutes in the bus. The road is a winding country road past villages and farming fields. There is car parking at both Dundee and St Andrews. Commuting between the two is also common.
Thanks a lot
Hey Emma, I will be moving to Dundee this fall and I am in the process of looking for private accommodation. Would it be a bother if I were to ask for some advice from you about the same. If it's not a problem, we can connect via email. Best Wishes
Hi Dhira, Congrats! Feel free to give me a message on twitter @EmmaisSandy.

Do you know anything about ma animation and vfx
Hi Meraki, I don't know about that specific course, but the art school has a good reputation! I do know someone (I think their degree was digital animation?) and they've stayed in Dundee working as a video game animator. Lots of video game/ digital industry jobs in Dundee and Edinburgh!
@@EmmaSandy thanks very much
@@Avrilfille Hey, so I was wondering if you went on and did the course? May you could share some information on it?
@@lucyannej.8117 actually I rejected the offer
