I studied at the University of Dundee for 4 years, a long time ago from 1978 to 1982. It forms part of the nicest time of my life. Great to see the landmarks and its streets over again in your video. Thank you.

Good evening! And welcome to this walk around the heart of one of Scotland’s great cities: Dundee! Once upon a time one of the world’s most important points, and the home of a great castle and cramped but bustling town centre, Dundee has evolved spectacularly over the centuries, reaching its peak in the industrial era as it became the central node of the world’s jute trade!
I hope you enjoy the deep dive we take into Dundee’s history on this walk about the city centre, but one thing we didn’t mention is the weather in the city. Though it didn’t quite turn out for us on this occasion, Dundee is often touted as the sunniest and driest city in Scotland - typically seeing three times more sun than most people in Scotland (and in stark contrast to rainy Fort William, which we visited in our last video).

Thank you very much for this tour showcasing Dundee and explaining its History, much appreciated. I am a prospective international student, an offer holder for the University of Dundee and two other universities. Pretty much just watching videos showcasing Dundee to get a feel of the city while making a decision on which Uni shall I enroll in.

My wife are having a short break in Edinburgh next month and will be having a 1-day train trip to Dundee, which was initially just to for the journey over the two famous bridges, Forth & Tay, but there seems a fair bit to see in Dundee too.
This video has been very helpful, especially with the commentary too which is much better than others which are silent.

As a Dundonian, I hope you don't mind if I add a little bit to your excellent film.
The statue of the Polar bear attacking the tailor (Mr Jamieson), happened in the purple shop you can see behind the statue. At the time it was a tailors and a woman ran into his shop to tell him about the bear, and when he went out to look, it chased him back into the shop. Luckily for them both, as it entered the shop with both of them at its mercy, it saw its reflection in a tailors full length mirror and became enraged at what it thought was a rival. This gave the men who had brought the bear to Dundee on a Whaling ship for an exhibition, enough time to fetch rope and some bait and they were able to trap it.

Thank you for mentioning that DC Thomson is the home of journalism and magazines in the city, and the former comic The Dandy. It would be amiss of me not to remind viewers that the Oldest British Comic, The Beano, created in 1938, is still being published for children’s’ enjoyment to this day.

Very good video. There is just one point I would like to mention. Being born and bred in Dundee, I would just like to correct a small error in your narration. Near the end of your film you walked along "Congregation Street'. This is incorrect. It is actually 'Constitution Road". Apart from this small mistake, you have once again produced a very interesting and informative video. Keep up the good work! 👍

Surprising no inclusion of Dundee’s heritage links to Frankenstein author Mary Shelley who lived here between 1812-1814. The Frankenstein steps located just below the location of the old cinema where the Bride of Frankenstein was shown in the 1930s
