Picked this up recently off of ebay. Remember staring at the ads for it in the back of comic books and always wondering what it was. The show and rpgs in general were something that passed me by until muuuch later. Dig the video!
I never had a problem with MDC. Without MDC the only variable for a guy with a knife attacking a tank is time. Palladium RPGs were something I really got into. I never really played a whole lot, but collecting the sourcebooks and reading them was a lot of fun. I got a lot of them from used bookstores. I had a bunch of the Robotech, the TMNT, some of the smaller setting books like Ninjas and Superspies. I even came across an early sci fi book, I think it was mechanoids?
Love to see some Robotech and Palladium coverage! I constantly find myself in the minority with regards to MDC, as I really had no issue with it. Did the rules 100% reflect anime? No, but then would players have fun in a constantly fatal game? Probably not. Thanks for the video! I love seeing Robotech/Palladium fandom.
Me, either. I'm fortunate I got to see the entire series for the one year I lived in Florida. And then I hunted down VHS copies as best I could when I moved back home to Texas.
Robotech was so much fun. And TMNT was great, too. And I was nuts and allowed Ninjas & Superspies martial arts in both games. Worked quite well in TMNT. In Robotech... the Alpha pilot with Thai Kickboxing was just a bit overpowered.
Kudos for holding my interest despite my having no history with the giant robots genre. You have a good presentation style and lots of interesting insights on the hobby. I'll keep tuning in to see where you go next. Cheers!
Wow! Thanks! Those are amazing compliments. I try to be engaging - I've been and instructor in various capacities over the years, from Drill & Ceremonies to study skills to History/Military History to... gaming. This last one is my favorite one to teach.
I played the hell out this book with my friends from 89 to 91, our TMNT campaign died out that same year too. We ditched AD&D by 93 and went to play only Star Wars for 8 years
I can't blame you for playing West End Star Wars- the 90s were a great period for that game. While I prefer the 1st Edition, so many people swear by the Revised & Expanded 2nd Edition. All the New Republic stuff that came out was a lot of fun.
This was my first Palladium RPG, and I never liked the M.D.C. system, I did love reading the book, and their Caracter creation was fun if overly detailed, even for the time :). Not as bad as 1st ed of Twilight 2000 character creation process lol. I tried to get into it and the other games from Palladium but I always felt it was too much detail for too little return. Very cool video!!
@@TheOldDragoonsame! I think starting my gaming life with Palladium was good for me, because it forced me to learn to make rulings, try things not on the character sheet, and tinker with game design.
That was sort of implied, but so many things had MDC that really shouldn't have rated it - like Rick's FanJet. MDC quickly moved into RIFTS, and proliferated from there.
I let a friend of mine borrow my copy, so that they could learn the Palladium System. Your complaint on Destroid pilots not being the only one to pilot them is with 1 caveat. Those pilots only have to pay 1 skill for combat ability. All others had to pay 2 skills, 1 to pilot and 1 to combat.
You are absolutely correct, they do have to pay two skills. At least they CAN learn Destroid piloting, the Veritechs remained off-limits to any other OCC. In Sentinels they were a bit nicer allowing folks to learn "basic" Alpha piloting and combat.
I have no knowledge of or familiarity with this franchise (Robotech, not Palladium) except the movie Macross Plus, which I've probably watched a few hundred times.

Yes, as I understand it Mechanoids was one of Kevin Siembieda's first RPG publications.
Love to see some Robotech and Palladium coverage!

Wicked! I will keep up the Palladium content here and there. Makes me REALLY wish I had time to drop more than one video in a week.
@@TheOldDragoon Time is the worst, right?
Nice video! I watched it on TV in Houston. Not sure why it wasn't broadcasted in Austin.

Love this game….and TMNT. Thanks for the review. Would love this to come back

Thanks! I have a deep and abiding love of Palladium games. I also have a deep and abiding love of tinkering and house rules. Coincidence?

If I remember correctly, MDC was materials created with the protoculture technology.

This was the first anime i ever saw, i used to draw these guys all the time
I could never draw them very well, but I tried.

That might be the worst audio that I have ever (not) heard.
