The Primus Medicae has one really, INSANELY important attribute that you totally missed. You can *NEVER* attach a Legion Apothecary to a Terminator Squad of any kind. That's what makes the Primus Medicae different - you can attach him to a Terminator Squad, he can take any Terminator Armor, and his benefit to It Will Not Die rolls applies to *every single Primarch.* As part of their unit type, they all have IWND. They're basically Death Star Apothecaries, and that's always been their job. Now they're just better at it than ever.
Can I ask you to clarify the rules that enable all this? Please understand I'm not doubting, I'd like to use it, I'm just looking at the Consul rule for Primus Medicae and can't see the opportunity to attach to a unit that includes terminators. :) Thank you in advance!
@@combatwombat2134The primarch stuff is an error on my part, but it's important to recognize that standard IC infantry can attach to any other IC infantry. Apothecarion Detachment has lots of restrictions, but those restrictions only apply to that unit type. Apothecaries are deliberately written as unable to join terminators, while Primus Medicae lack any limitations. They don't have the Apothecarion Detachment rule or any equivalent. As an Independent Character, a Primus Medicae can leave a unit and join another one too.
@@combatwombat2134 Independant Character is the rule that allows it to attach to a unit that includes terminators. The ban for apothecaries is a part of their specific attachment rule, not a part of the general way ICs join units.
I've realised that this applies to Apothecaries in Raven Guard not getting access to Corvid pattern jump packs if I wanted to put one in a Dark Fury squad. Had to rewrite my list as a Primus Medicae with a powersword and upgraded jump pack is 150 points.
Turning to these pages in the Liber was utter nonsense and felt more like a latin lesson than an army list. Thank you so much for demystifying these units. This video was amazingly helpful.
Just a heads up on the Vigilator, he does not have skirmish sub type, so the units he generally wants to hang around in recon/seeker/headhunter will lose their skirmish abilities. For the Mortificator (Dreadnought guy) I think you can pair him up with the HQ contemptor from fury of the ancients RoW to make your warlord super tanky.
Fantastic! Great run through of all of these, super stoked to build up some Consuls. These definitely bring some FANTASTIC flavor to the basic marine forces and a lot of great conversion opportunities. I want to also add that I REALLY appreciate the section split up. That's a great addition to keep things organized, especially as I am sure I'll be referencing this video a few times throughout the coming weeks. Thanks for the effort, so excited to see so much Horus Heresy content!
I'm not sure you are correct on the Armistos. He gives +1 BS to the UNIT he joins, not just a model, which is not something a heavy support squad can get (unless you join another character that has the cognis). He brings another heavy weapon to the squad and +1 BS for the entire unit, which isn't to bad imho. He is cheaper than the master of signal (which is the other consul that can get the cognis) but is not limited as much in which weapon he can bring. I think they are a fairly solid pick to buff a heavy support squad with, or optionally a vet squad (which are also relentless).
I love this. Just starting modeling my army and love thinking about the modeling opportunities for these. I just have to keep telling myself keep the points low. This channel has helped me move away for dumping points into things that dont give me value.
I like how there's a lot of scope for converting a bunch of these guys, I've got a Moritat and of course the two praetor models from AoD, but I think the axe praetor is gonna become a chaplain now. Also I've been using the spares from the Primaris Eliminators box to convert MK VI marines into a recon squad - they look really cool and surprisingly the Heresy groups I'm on really approved of them despite the use of primaris bits. If you make the 40k Eliminators into the current meta config of Las fusils/bolt carbine then you're left with 6 bolt sniper rifles to convert, so I'm probs gonna use the 6th one to make a Vigilator.
For me the use of any phosphex is to tar pit units. Salamander terminators might not take a single wound form the blast but if you can’t run have move 6 and are now in difficult terrain one shot can basically take them out of the game for a turn or two.
Hey guys, love the content so far! Really great overviews. One mistake, the Legion Pathfinder cannot join a unit to confer infiltrate, but could confer scout. Infiltrate and scout are just as confusing as they've always been!
I just reread the Mortificator entry, he allows you to take a single contemptor that doesn't use a force organization slot. Just a heads up, maybe more useful than initially thought.
I love a Herald to shore up the lack of Line in my Armoured Spearhead list - I like to keep in theme and bring a lot of predators in the troops slot, but they don't gain Line so you're always a bit short there. Bringing a unit of Tartaros with a herald gives you an extra tough line unit to supplement the marines in rhinos.
Great vid mate. I'm defo having a sniper, pulling those pesky 2+ saves out of squads is fabs and threatening preators etc is fun. I love the gunfighter guy and defo need some space magic in my life. Cool stuff mate.
Bashed up a fist chaplin with a stormshield Im thinking might be ideal in a unit of breachers or warders and almost an auto include in Zone mortalis games!
A question I thought of. If the siege breaker can allow you to take phosphex artillery rounds that are ap 2, and you drop the templates on heavy unit like cataphractii terminators who have the heavy trait. Would the terminators still get the reroll for the save? The reason I ask is it says with the heavy trait you get to reroll "armor" saves against blast and template weapons, but if you don't get the armor save due to the weapon being ap 2, I could see the argument that you are left with just the invuln save and you could not reroll that because it is considered a different save. Thoughts?
armistos is essentially a master of signals if you want to deepstrike parts of your own force. i find myself taking one instead of a mos to make use of the GUARD OF THE CRIMSON KING row 🔥🔥
I haven't listened yet, but the consuls that caught my fancy are: Forge Lord, Legion Praevan, Primus Medicae and the Legion Mortificator. Now let's see if there are more to put on the list...
@@Hearesy Oh damn. OK. I am definitely making a Moritat just because I have grav pistols bits for both hands already. A Master of Signal and a Vigilator would also be nice in my Iron Hands force. This is great, I love making custom characters! EDIT: Oh and an Herald. I mean I have to. Mandatory.
Do you lose anything from a unit if you add an artificer armor consul to a terminator unit? Like adding a master of signals into a unit of tyrant seige terminators?
I'm loving everything your putting out. I'm pretty sure apothecaries can't join terminator squads so If you want your primarch with terminator retinue to get a fnp you'll have to bite the bullet and do that and although IWND on 2 wound models is meh rerolling a primarchs IWND is very good. Might not be worth the pts still but it's a reason to take one
Im genuinely just not sure why they even exist tbh! Im not even sure its that good on primarchs. 100+ points and a hq slot, kinda meh. Maybe an faq or maybe just a duff unit!
I'm a little little on this one, but maybe you or someone else who can help me still reads this. I have a question about the base sizes for consuls or hq units in general. I know in 1.0 it was 32mm for power armor, 40mm for terminators, now the two praetors in the age of darkness box are on 40mm bases. Would it be ok to put all my consuls on 40mm bases as well, no matter the armor? I can't find any official answer to this, but personally i think it looks cooler.
I'm pretty sure a Legion Pathfinder can't give any unit Infiltrate. Although a unit only needs one model with this rule to use it, afaik you're not allowed to join a unit without Infiltrate with a character with this rule during deployment. (And the other way around).
got a question if someone wouldn't mind answering it I'm doing a word bearers force and I would like to use some of the other consuls apart from the diabolist how do I get them the corrupted key word do I just pay the 25 points for dark channeling on top of the consul cost so for instance I want to use a Chaplin so I pay the base 60 then the 35 to make him a Chaplin then 25 on dark channeling to get him the corrupted key word or do I make a unit corrupted with dark channeling and then attach the Chaplin to that unit and he gets the key word that way
Yeah... so you're doing the Armistos wrong. Zero upgrades. You heard me. Zero upgrades. Why the hell would you pay points for a lascannon when he's just going to be using his shooting phase giving the unit +1 WS? No, that's dumb. Chainsword, bolt pistol, call it a day. Now you can use your sgt to tank wounds and not risk losing your special equipment, cuz it's on this dude. On top of that, you can add him to your plasma TSS, or in my case, the warpfire plasma TTS. Now your plasma's hitting on 2s and can intercept. (Note: Vulkite is also a nice place to put him) Oh yeah, that's spicy.
I am rewatching these now I have finally got some games with my Thousand Sons. Very helpful!
