You sound very intelligent, not like some other people that make videos. Very fluent and.punctual and to the point in detail, with awesome advice that I can tell only.comes from experience. Thanks for the videos you have gained a new sub.
Congrats on a detailed explanation that covers all the scan tools. Now I know where I stand as regards price and info. Any updates will be very welcome.
Thank you for the summary on scan tools, I find it very informative on picking the right tool. Although, having the right tool its half of the work done. Would make sense the know what specifically we are looking for, eg: 1. Harmless vs Dangerous error codes? 2. Key KPIs to look at? 3. How to check the history of error codes? 4. How to check the maximum temperature of the engine (in case it was overheated)? 5. What to test in first instance? Suppose you're buying a car and have the tool with you. Showing to the seller that you're OBD device is "showing red" without actually understanding the severity of the problem, is not convincing. Hope I didn't sound negative, just wanted to speak about the use cases of such devices, and about clueless people like me, using them. If you have time, a video on that would be very helpful. Thanks!
I use Bluedriver Bluetooth scanner. Seems to have all the info needed, but missing some like fuel trim readers. It reads live data which is good and when codes are thrown, gives common fixes based on the codes. No matter what, vacuum leaks seem to be the most common problems to troubleshoot first before you keep throwing parts at it.
By far the best personality on TH-cam! Damn, you should be a teacher or instructor. I know the money sucks, but you sure could educate some people!?! Thanks!
I have an Autel MaxiSys MS906. That's the new model that takes over for the Autel MaxiDAS DS708. It does everything I need and are a professional grade Android based scan tool that's not Snap On price. That will costs you 1200 dollars on Ebay. I own a Peugeot 407 diesel, an European car. Few PC based system I found could handle that brand. It's a bi directional scan tool that covers all the PIDs, and also Airbag, TPMS, diesel particle filter regeneration and more. So I try hard to keep my goal, never to go to a car repair shop. I have had cars from 2003. So far, so good. In Norway, where I live, It costs about 150$ for an hour at the repair shop. I also do repair on friends and family's cars. I bought the tool this summer, and so far I have fixed an engine light on my friends car and a airbag light on mine. And scanned a couple of cars. The engine light was about the throttle position sensor, It just needed some cleaning. Having the car scanned at a shop costs about 100$. Greetings from Norway
Oddly enough i found your vid's a few months ago while searching BMW error codes. Left and Right bank lean condition ( split intake boot, yay cheap fixes! ) and have been a fan ever since. I only have a cheap Ebay scanner, reads codes and can reset the dash Engine light.. Going to give the Fusion App a try, looks like it could be handy to have.
Hey friend, I appreciate your channel. I have had a crank no start issue that eventually started and has been fine. I wanna check for anything that might help me find out why it didnt start. Crank position sensors going bad? Any idea which one of these scanners would show me if I had an intermittent sensor going out?
I am very frustrated with my Subaru Legacy GX 2001--If I use my CRP123 which is a more high end tool - this unit will read values BUT not any graphs or logging .I also have a wifi ELM327 which works on other cars but not my Subaru .I saw one person using OBDfusion but it is a paid service app and not sure if it will work .Any suggestions as I am experimenting water vapor injection and flying blind is very frustrating .Thank you in advance-Brad
First off, so impressed that you post so many videos to share your knowledge. I was wondering if I could pick your brain. I took the advice of your video, I ordered a bluetooth device to capture the stats and I downloaded the OBD Fusion application. I am admit I do not know much about cars, I am more of technology guy which is why I was hoping the app could shed a little light on an issue I am having with my 328xi. Essentially, when I press on the gas, the car shudders sometimes a little sometimes more than a little. My first reaction was FAK, I am probably looking at $$$$ for a transmission. However, this morning as I was driving in, I notice that the RPMs seem to be staying consistent as this shudder is happening. So, not sure if that means anything but my thought was, the car is not changing gears so perhaps I have fuel pump/electronics issue. Any advice on how to really determine if it's the transmission? THANK YOU
Could be a bad drive shaft center support bearing or a bad giubo, which is the rubber disc where the driveshaft mounts to the transmission. You'll have to remove your exhaust and heat shield to examine this. You can see how to do that in my rear main seal videos.
Took it to the dealership this morning and based on test drive, they are thinking bad coil(s) and the recommendation is to replace all of them. I will now go back and re-watch your video again to see if I can pinpoint it via the app and the OBD sensor.
Question. So you need the Scan Tool = $250, but don't you also need the Expansion kit as well for your particular vehicle ? In my case a Mazda. = $149. Correct ??
Hello as I went on the main page for 50s Kitty said that he doesn't really respond to emails personally so I put this up here hopefully somebody else has already got the answer I purchased one of the skin tools he mentioned the elm327 when I went to the site it's a German site I purchased it received the receipt in German but don't know how to proceed does anybody have information on how I should handle this thank you so much for responding
Great video, wish I would seen about 6 month ago. That's when I bought Autel MiniSys. Also I only paid $1200 for it. It's a Great Tool but Autoengenuity would have been cheaper. Love your videos
Have you tried Carly for BMW? It seems to be the only android app that's fully functional for BMW's but it's £40! Plus they removed compatibility for bluetooth adaptors (for E46) so you feel like you have to buy a USB adaptor from them which is another £30 =/
Antti-Ville Orava Yeah, I already have one. It's just the app used to warn you if you weren't using a compatible connection and then tell you get the Carly cable or bluetooth adaptor. Then for some reason it wouldn't work on my LG G3 but it would on my Hudl 2 tablet.
Well when you push on your brake pedal you are emptying your brake booster of it's vacuum and that causes the engine to replace that vacuum. That load could cause some idle issues if something is not working properly. I would think it's an issue with the idle air control valve, maybe. But I cannot be sure over the internet. Just giving you a direction to go in.
thank you 50sKid. last question: i am about to buy an OBD2 scanner but i'm not sure if mine and relatives' cars are equipped by an OBD2 port. is it true that all cars 10-years old and above are equipped by OBD2 ports? thanks again!

Cars and computers. Lol what else do you know 50

Very well done. Probably the best vid on OBD2 and the different scanners I have seen. I only wish I had seen this yesterday!Thank you
Wow great explanation. I’ve been searching online for a basic rundown with some detail. Bang on job. Thanks.
you are a very smart guy! thank you for your descriptions! keep in touch !

At 12:54, you can click on the trouble code and it brings up further information, then it can also link to information on the web.
I love your videos, learnt a lot about servicing my E39. Thank you!

Have you tried a Bluetooth LE scan tool with Carista OBD2 app or Bimmercode app for diagnostics and customizations?

50sKid okay, is this something I can in my garage and would that be typical for a car with 100,000kms on it?
Took it to the dealership this morning and based on test drive, they are thinking bad coil(s) and the recommendation is to replace all of them. I will now go back and re-watch your video again to see if I can pinpoint it via the app and the OBD sensor.
Hello, the ELM327 Wifi/Bluetooth it's ok for E46 (1998) phase 1 ?
its making me pay the 59$ or whatever for the scanmaster software. how do I get the free version as you said? I don't need graphs.
Hey, love your videos! Have you explored PA Soft at all? I've seen it mentioned on e46fanatics.
PA soft is bmw scanner. I cover that in my bmw scan tools video. Search my page for it.
Hi 50sKid
my E46 M54 engine
always has error code P1346
Thank you
Can you get the oiltemperature with the ELM327 on a M54?
Question. So you need the Scan Tool = $250, but don't you also need the Expansion kit as well for your particular vehicle ? In my case a Mazda. = $149. Correct ??
You do also need the expansion pack, yes.
fantastic info....thanks for sharing
you can try BMW Rheingold with your k-dcan cable
Where did you go 50’skid??
I was thinking the same thing, he announced the X3 project and disappeared after that. I sure miss him.
Video very helpful I liked and subscribed
Can you please sumarize the video? Which is easiest to use windows based tool that has most features?

Do any of these read ABS codes? I've got a bad ABS sensor (i believe on my e46) but my current scan tool does only engine codes.
you can try a autel md805. You can find it from obdprice. com

Haven't, but thanks for telling me about it.
You can use standard inpa cable with carly no problem. It is really cheap.

great help. thank you!
Isn't the Ignition supposed to be OFF when you Plug the Tool in ?
No, there is always power on the ODB2 port, but the ignition has to be on for the code reader to actually communicate with the computer.
excelentes informações
Im having a trippy issue on my e46, it revs up to about 1300 rpm when you push down on the brake pedal?? Any suggestions? I'm lost :(
Well when you push on your brake pedal you are emptying your brake booster of it's vacuum and that causes the engine to replace that vacuum. That load could cause some idle issues if something is not working properly. I would think it's an issue with the idle air control valve, maybe. But I cannot be sure over the internet. Thanks for the feedback bro
can you monitor IAt and boost pressure as a graph with the elm software?
IAT yes, boost no--these engines do not have a MAP sensor.
50sKid I mean if I use it on my cls63. biturbo.
Oh if it is already a turbo then yeah, that should be a field you can monitor in generic obd2 data through this tool.
Torque pro? :)
noob question:
will installing an OBD2 Scanner like Elm327 void a car's warranty?
No
thank you 50sKid.
last question: i am about to buy an OBD2 scanner but i'm not sure if mine and relatives' cars are equipped by an OBD2 port. is it true that all cars 10-years old and above are equipped by OBD2 ports?
thanks again!
Everything after 1996 (in the US)
Whats with the bandannas
That's my gang colors, ése!
Great Reply Kid !
will it work with windows 10?
don't use bt or wifi if you want to get a car in garage
is better than taking it to BMW
.
