My favorite hooks are owner hooks they're tough as hell I've pulled in some really big fish on really small owner hooks like size 6 hooks not 6/0 but #6.
Nice video. I'm from the Northeastern US coast, and love bluefish. Pan fried in a little butter, if they're freshly caught, a little lemon, some fresh parsley, there's nothing better.

Just use a 65 pound braided line with 90 pound leader line and you set!! I catch all kinds of fish including sharks!!

I get the fun, but all those snap-offs and fish swimming around attached to tackle, with hooks in their mouths, isn't great.

ya need to go get a 400 gram grappler jigging rod thats what I use for grouper fishing here in NC and we jack huge fish here in NC the bottom is full of ledges and holes so we lock down and go to war with these fish that way they can't get back under the ledge or the holes ya need 130lb pink yo zuri fluro leader its pricy but I swear its the best leader line out RN hands down 4x strong gama j hook tied together with a PR knot you will yank em out from under that pier im telling ya that's either big jacks or big reds under that pier maybe big ars go get em

Monster fish from the pier? Not going to happen. Everybody with cheap Walmart spinners. Whats the gear ratio? No pulling power. Ive seen you have your drag so tight too much heat that why the line broke. Invest a little money on your rigs. Loosen the drag, let him run. Then when he gets tired at least 6 to one ratio to pull him in fast before he goes under something. Youre not going to do thst with a cheap spinner

Considering the fish were sitting by the pylons and it pulled 42lb drag I am thinking definitely goliath grouper. We have pulled up a few at Sunshine Skyway fishing the same method as you guys. I couldn't stop one one a large Mariner Penn with pool stick rod. It doubled over the pool stick. You need serious gear to get those up off a pier. Boats are entirely different.
School of big snook, red snapper, or nice gags. Lookin at the first hit you had and missed I would say big snapper. Looks like fun though.

Your Spanish Mackerel are more like our King Mackerel. Our Spanish Mackerel and Cero Mackerel are much smaller but look very similar to our juvenile King Mackerel.
Cought a 5 foot barracuda at this place along with the limit on spanish. Great time

I’ve never seen a red snapper come off the pier in GS or PC. I have seen a grouper come off PC’s pier.
Hand line them with some 400lb test, I have fish like that offshore that can't be stopped, so I made a hand line with 400lb test I just hope that it does not pull me out of the kayak. Thanks for the video Kyle.

It a Goliath Grouper ... I suggest an 80 wide, 300lb mono and a 130 class rod.

Nice video! I don't care that you failed to land one of those beasts from under the pier, it was a rather noble effort, lol. It is possible that you may be right guessing the fish to be red snapper hanging out under the pier but I can't help but thinking it could also be grouper. Hopefully you get some gear with a little more backbone and you can come back and yank them out from under the pier so we can see what has been messing with you guys. I look forward to identifying those fish.

In my state, if you’re a resident it’s free to fish from pier but you still have to have the license. The license is free for state residents

Lol listen man, I get it that’s it’s easy to comment saying “this is what you did wrong” but it’s way more complicated than that. You HAVE to have your drag locked down otherwise the fish go way under the pier and once they do that, it’s game over and they get around 3 or 4 pylons.
