The big point is, NOW, not only did he do something illegal by Blatantly disrespecting the Law... BUT, in Brazil, we have GDPR as in Europe, in this maneuver to less secure Public Infrastructure ONLY FOR BRAZILIANS, he exposed Millions of Brazilian's data without at least a change in the use terms.
He just deepened the amount of legal issues he is collecting in Brazil...
This guy thinks he is above other country's laws and can difficult criminal investigations on crimes being committed on his platform (Nazism, Hate Speech, and Terrorism promotion is a crime in Brazil, not only for those who commit them but for those who facilitate it)

If you just bought a EV you have already lost, doesn't matter if it's a tesla or not, EV have already hit there peak of sales, the demand has fallen dramatically but your still paying a fortune for it, manufacturers are still designing hybrid cars but EVs are dead in the water and your going to lose a ton of money buying one

If Musk can get away with not paying rent for Twitter/X offices, not paying bank loans, why would he pay back banks, taxes et al.
I would put money down (and I rarely gamble) that Tesla moving out of California is because his tax breaks are up and any of Musks businesses would now have to pay State taxes, hence him moving operations to other States like Texas.

Brazilian here. It's annoying not having access to twitter and thats not the ideal scenario. But I am really proud that our country is not gonna be pushed around by tech giants. Almost everyone I know here agrees that twitter is down for Elon's fault. He could just comply with our laws and everything would be fine, but he insists on not doing it because hes an egomaniac.
Twitter had become shit anyways when it became X, so personally I'm not even really mad. I honestly hope everybody leaves it for better platforms. A lot of people I know have migrated to Bluesky and life would be objectively better if people just traded X for that lol.

X is a real cesspit these days but I found it very useful for information I use for investing in stocks and keeping up-to-date on tech news. Not the same without it but definitely worth the sacrifice!

Wow name one thing the US Government ever did under budget that ended up better than the private sector. Seems all the greatest innovations were either in college research labs or some non-government business. The only thing I can think of the US doing is nuclear stuff out of Lawrence Livermore Labs.
Your comment hits the nail right on the head. I’m a retired government employee, and for every one person who worked their tail off like I did there were three that did nothing. The management was awful. However in spite of or perhaps because of the fact that it was somewhat top-heavy and there were so many different types of people thrown together for so many different reasons, it seemed to work. It’s an imperfect system, but there are enough people who have differing opinions in places that count that it balances itself out. Humans are so imperfect that our system is almost the best you can hope for unless all humans become truly altruistic, and the chances of that happening are zero to none!
I expect to wake up some morning to read that Leon OD'd on Ketamine.

I used to be good friends with a guy (white) who grew up in S,Africa, he wasn't an asshole, not racist or a compulsive liar. @@PreschoolDropout673 You'd want to get a firesale price given depletion of battery capacity, and the risk of fire (as you will have very limited means to determine the true driving history of the vehicle, and therefore any jarring impacts to the cells in the battery).

Before you consider buying a Tesla you have to read the book I’m reading now.. it’s called “Ludacris: The untarnished Story of Tesla motors”… very interesting and it also talks about the different competitors in their cars. It’s written by a guy who has a career writing about different issues in the automotive industry. It’s a very interesting read, and it gives you a lot of insight into the car industry in general. I think it might be a must read for a person considering buying an EV. I know nothing about cars but I was watching something on the TH-cam channel “comments sense skeptic” and this book was referenced. It’s on Kindle. It doesn’t speak in like a technical thing, but it gives you a good overview of the EV market and the inner workings of the Tesla

Low build quality, short cruising range, charging issues and proprietary control over software leaving owners norecourse to repair their own vehicles, are all good reasons to shop elsewhere for an EV. The proprietor's propensity for odious personal communication and perverse pernicios politics reminds me that he's a bad investment.

I heard a lot of people jumped ship from tesla (especially from the AI division) to other companies and were even taking less money because they hated the terrible work environment.

I’ve always thought that one reason Rupert Murdoch and Elon can be so right wing politically is because, they didn’t have a standard American high school education. I remember vividly how we studied Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, the Civil War, JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, the Vietnam war, the civil rights movement, Unions, importance of immigration… The horrible treatment of the Native Americans… So we learn the goods and bads and learn basically to be thinking, proud, patriotic Americans. When Elon made a post the other day that no one had threatened Kamala, I was really shocked. When we grew up we learned that there are certain things you don’t joke about. He thought that was a joke or he pretended he thought it was a joke. I don’t think he was joking at all I think it was just terrible taste And actually very dangerous. He is an immigrant and it shows. There are many immigrants who learn to love America and respect its culture. It seems he doesn’t.

What's going on in Brazil isn't an issue of free speech or authoritarianism at all. The platform is a private organization, not controlled by the people to ensure that everyone has equal rights to say whatever they want, and it's well known for silencing views contrary to that of the executives. So long as it's a private for-profit organization, nothing the public decides to do with it is a matter of infringing upon the rights of that same public, and if the public decides it's worthless, because it is, they should have the right to shut it down!

I can't let this go by without throwing in a plug for Lucid EVs. That is the brand that Tesla fans are most emotional about. Their EV tech, the stuff that makes the car go, is genuinely so much better than anything else on the road. I've had one for over two years and all those starstruck reviews are true. Funded by deep-pockets Saudi Arabia, I can't say that I recommend their stock to the average investor, but their Air sedan outclasses, outdrives, and is simply a nicer place to be than Tesla's Model S. Their base model is cheaper too. More than a few Tesla owners are switching, but all of them are talking about Lucid. When Lucid's new SUV starts shipping this autumn it will bury Tesla's Model X. The smaller cheaper Lucids start showing up in 2026.
But does the EV3 have FSD? Oh wait, neither does Tesla. Anyone remember Musk saying that the only reason to buy a Tesla was because of its FSD capabilities? I remember.
It stands to reason that the more successful Tesla was, the more competitors would appear, probably with notable improvements on the product. That's how it worked with innovation and inventions in the past. Musk may have realized this, and therefore focused on "self driving" cars, but he refused to listen to advice on how to build such a car, and would only use camera. Now LIDAR is taking over self-driving, and probably other techniques. Don't you think writing a map applications like WAZE to actually *guide* (semi drive) a car must be on someone's invention list? Annoying if it drove the car in circles, as WAZE directed me in circles in a rural area, back in 2015. But such bugs can be worked out.
No, more and more companies are ditching LiDAR. Mobileye just announced it a few days ago and they are the one with the CEO who years ago heavily criticized Tesla for not having it. Xpeng has ditched it and they are the only car in China that can drive on all roads. Even Huawei mentioned last year generating LiDAR pre-maps is too expensive and so they are dropping that strategy.

@kwillow12 No, having a vision system that is first rate is better than having a first rate LiDAR system. LiDAR is fine but it can't tell you if a light is green, what a sign says, or where the lines are on the road. Elon Musk said companies were using LiDAR as a shortcut to solve things their vision systems were having problems calculating. You need a vision system that understands the environment so it can pick out those previously mentioned items. When it gets that robust you'll find out it can also do the things you were previously leveraging LiDAR for.

Second comment for the evening on this post. I 😂Am right in the middle of a book called “Ludacris: The untethered story of Tesla motors”. It’s a very well written book by a writer who covers the car industry. He’s in a unique position to write a book like this because it’s kind of a niche topic. It really complements the conversation Chris is covering for us. It’s not just about Tesla, the car, but about Tesla the automotive company. It’s on Kindle.
Can we please not take hyperloop seriously. It simply doesn't exist, never existed and never was able to exist.

If it is true that Musk can order the truck to be disabled, that should be worrying for all Tesla owners. Is anyone comfortable knowing the manufacture can disable a purchased item so easily, especially considering how spiteful a person Musk can be? Will Tesla owners who dare to criticise Musk in public suddenly find some of their vehicle's systems disabled?
With Musk showing disdain for Brazil, while he is seems totally comfortable with being subservient and compliant towards China and Russia, is not smart. What Brazil has done, the EU is hot on its heels to do something similar. While Musk may find many inventive ways to circumvent a country's block, countries have the ability to financially cripple Musk's many interests.
I imagine EU will fine him eventually.

The Renault 5 will probably take a chunk of European EV sales off Tesla too. The retro inspired design looks nice, plus it has a bit of motorsport background and will fit in most cities comfortably. Tesla really need to update their car designs imo, they look really bland and dated.

Normally a $1M/day fine, although pretty large, wouldn't be a huge deal for some of these massive companies worth double and triple digits billions. Austin is a very expensive city. Most Tesla employees couldn't afford housing in Austin proper. Housing is also generally scarce. I follow several Austin based musicians who have had to move away because of the expense of living there. I'm talking successful musicians, not poor or struggling ones.
