    K-3 all at sea (or at least a marina). Great footage. All you need to get your own light cover is to have a fashion design expert on hand ;) Love it. I hope you show us the next version of the cover.

      Haha, thank you!! You're right about the fashion designer, she's handy to have around. I'l definitely show version 2.0 whenever it's ready.

    I was surprised by the quality of the color and the definition of the image...it is a great camera with good optics! The case you have made is very good. I ADMIRED YOU!

    Excellent video Mike! Cover looks great! Film looked great! Do you do any post editing, levels...etc or is it just scanned and posted? Frame rate: 18 or 24? You are tempting me to get some film for my Kodak Brownie! :)

      Thank you!! Yes, I did do a bit of color grading on this one. I scan pretty flat so I usually have to do a little post work. I shot this at 24 FPS. Bust out the Brownie!!

    Interesting and informative. That cover is awesome, I wonder if you could use some type of insulation between the cover and cam to also help keep the noise down when the camera is running ?
    The color film came out really good, I need to take the time to learn color developing, but as you noted the lab makes it so pretty :-).
    As always, thanks Mike !

      Thank you, Cecil!! You know, it’s funny you mention the sound insulation, I did buy some material that I thought might be good for just that. Unfortunately, I did a couple of tests and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Definitely not giving up on it just yet though.

    Great video as always, Michael! The footage looks very nice, your K-3 doesn't scratch the film, which is awesome. Super 16 is such a great format, isn't it? I can see that some shots are a bit skewed, but that's normal with the stock viewfinder until you get the hang of it. You might consider not to wrap your light cover around the camera at the bottom, to allow for the pistol grip or a tripod. Also: be careful with the frame rate knob, it easily turns and your frame rate is off. I had to learn this the hard way, as my camera unintentionally went rogue on me and fired at a very high frame rate. Anyway: even if it perhaps looks a bit rough, I love the film image. Everything looks pretty, dreamy and poignant.

      @Filmboy24  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, Christian! Funny you mention the frame rate knob. The one on my other K-3 is much more free turning than this one. This one is actually quite right, which I like. Also, the handle will still fit on the camera with the Velcro strap. The strap just goes over it. Tripod, that’s a different story 🤪

      @@Filmboy24 Great! Thought I should mention this: my frame rate knob, as you know, is calibrated in a way that the camera runs too fast, quite a bit since it shows in the slighly slower movements, so I will need to calibrate it (will do as soon as I have the opportunity, which might take some more time). From what I read in forums, the K-3 seems to have a tendency to running too fast, but the frame rate knob is continuous (not clicked), so all you have to do is calibrate it (a compromise of course) and mark it with a pencil.

      @Filmboy24  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truefilm6991 Do you think you'll make a video calibrating it? I'd love to see how you do it!!

      @@Filmboy24 Well I would love making new videos, but unfortunately I can't in the near future for several reasons. Hopefully soon I will be able to. Meanwhile: here is how I would do it, to avoid buying an expensive accurate stroboscope: take some scrap film, which needs to be in undamaged, and form a loop of 24 frames or a multiple of 24 frames, as fit inside the camera - just splice/glue with office tape. Then mark one frame with an X and of course each 24 frames later as well. Now you have the exact same conditions as when you run film, including film drag. At 24 fps, the X needs to pass by an object inside the camera (say coming out of the sprocket) exactly once each second. That corresponds to exactly 60 BPM on a metronome. I use the free cell phone app Pro Metronome, which is 100% accurate and I tested it against professional software and my digital piano. Just let the metronome run and start running the loop. Choose any object inside the camera where the X is visible and compare to the metronome click. Since you know how to sync sound very accurately in software, you have an excellent feel about it. I know this will work. Of course it will be a compromise, since by listening to the pitch of the motor alone you can tell that a spring load winds down ever so slowly, but it should be way more accurate after the calibration than as per the factory (and about 35 years later). That's all I can do for now. Thanks for reading!

    Any update on the DIY viewfinder CCTV camera setup? For framing shots with a monitor? I'm really interested in where you went with it, bc I want to shoot anamorphic on super8.

      It’s a weird battle, though I have made some progress. I have a completely different camera & lens setup for it now, just trying to lock in a way to mount it to various viewfinders.

    Unfortunately the worst things that can happen to a noob filmmaker is happening to me. Nothing like a jammed camera to discourage somebody who has never had any previous experience with this stuff. 😞
    EDIT: I think my take up reel I was using was bent. So I had to cut off the first 50 feet I shot. I HOPE the rest of the stuff on that spool turned out fine

      @@Filmboy24 I’m sure everyone has had something like that happen to them in their careers. I just didn’t check or think about the take up reel being a factor, because I was too excited to actually look closely at that reel. And I’ve never used that particular reel as a take up reel so didn’t realize it was slightly bent. I’ll be more careful in the future about that. I’m not gonna give up because of a bad experience.
