I'm so frustrated with myself for not learning to play drums when I was young-now I'm 39 and have too much other things going on unfortunately. But I can always crank up something like this or Don Caballero 2 and air drum I guess! 😂

@@B4NDllKOOT_ nah man my flat wouldn't even hold a set for a start lol I did make too much excuses when I was younger though and could have played in my parents garage but now I genuinely can't, between space and only just managing on disability money it wouldn't work out I don't think. Maybe if something changes though and I move house 😉
this band is phenomenal. their recorded albums are sick but it's really impressive that they fully nail it live. how can they even remember how some of this stuff goes?? watching these kids try to even just nod their heads to some of it gives me sympathy aches.

im pretty sure he plays more or less the same stuff he does on record, though i do think it's easier to memorize stuff you come up with, plus maybe the drum patterns are simpler than we imagine them to be

I saw Hella a couple of times in Santa Cruz when I was pretty young, right around Hold Your Horse Is. One time I showed up early (SC Vets Hall maybe?) and Zach was just starting to set his drums up. He was really cool, and I helped out a bit, setting up. A fairly unforggettable evening.
Zach Hill is my favorite jazz drummer.
25:40-30:40 is some of the greatest music ever recorded in mankind.

man, that is unbelieveable. i discovered hella in 2004-5 i guess, ten years ago and still i'm totally blown away by how these guys can do something like that. it would be suicide to have a chance beeing inside of zach's head for a 10 second. absolute mess, but organized as hell. :)

@@hansdado haha so did i-although here in Scotland it's called football and don't really play American football or baseball-football is our main sport. It's an interesting experience believe me, nearly every time someone tried to pass the ball or stop the ball someone would get the giggles which would set the rest of us off. It genuinely is fun, I'd highly recommend it lol sadly I can't get hold of acid nowadays, we used to do it in our late teens and I'm 39 now so its for the best I can't get-it wouldn't look good kicking a ball around and giggling like a kid at my age haba
I've only just discovered them, only in the last month, along with Don Caballero (got to say so far I'm more into Hella) and im so glad I found them, their music blows me away but also gives me chills down my spine kinda like when Sonic Youths earlier work (Evil, Sister, Daydream Nation) would go into their feedback solos would also give me chills even if the 2 bands aren't the same. Btw are you into Slint? Because Pejo is going on tour with a brilliant English band called Gang of Four (maybe you've heard of them) and I would highly recommend having a listen, especially the first album "Entertainment". If you are interested I'd suggest listening to a song called "Ether" first which will give you an idea of the kind of band they were back in '79 so you know who Pejo is playing for

I'll have you know that it is very possible to bob your head rhythmically to Hella, even if it isn't the way you typically would for most music
theyre just finding a rhythm and bobbing to it. theres always several rhythms and cycles going on at once so youll get people bobbing to different ones and swapping between them as they go. theres no right or wrong way to feel music, you just feel it. let em vibe.

Drummer is awesome but where's the space. In parts so dynamic but the linear non stop onslaught ruined them. History will put them in with Lightning Bolt....the most boring band of the ATP's
