I think it might be a synthetic blend, but i don’t mind it considering it was $40 bucks and the coolest looking blanket I’ve owned so far. Cool thing about them is they very in color and pattern.
I recently scored a few wool blankets at thrift store. I went back the next week and they had wised up and drastically raised prices on the vintage wool blankets to the tune of $75 to $100 dollars. I wonder if it was because they noticed my haul from the week before? I guess I will be looking elsewhere from now on. I've also found beautiful wool and cashmere scarves for under $5. I wash scarves, and some blankets too in cold water with Woolite and they come out fine.
I have read stories about early days ship wreck survivors, and comments made about the wool blankets which saved many lives, being pure wool in those days even when wet they would hold the body heat and with the natural oils in the wool they could survive the cold and wet conditions saving many lives.
This is exactly what I was wondering about when I went to a Good Will. I saw a Kenwood blanket with a tag that only said Kenwood Textile Industry. It had professionally printed a name tag sewn near to it. I can only guess that it was the name of one of the inspectors. I plan to use it as soon as I can find some more Woolite to wash any potential insect eggs off. It has a few holes. It smells fresh. $5 Second blessing was a vintage wool scarf in perfect, like new condition. It shows no signs of wear or wash and the tag is stiff as new. Dark maroon with plaid stripes. $1 I thought that for now on, I'll try to bring a lighter. If there's no tag, simply pull off some fuzz and take it to the restroom. It's safe over the sink and none of the commenters on here will hurt themselves. 😁
Thanks for the info! I'm afraid to say that most of what we get today is fake, olive oil, honey, and maybe wool. So I'm glad that you shared this test to see if we're getting the real deal.
thanks for this video! I'm tidying up ALL my bags of yarns versus wool ( prefer wool as it's warmer of course) . A few balls from Op shops ( thrift shops)..without labels I can't tell..I'm hesitant about using a match- but I will now..thanks so much! Brisbane, Australia

Not all synthetic fibers will burn, notably Kevlar and Polyamide. I have an old Air Force military flight jacket made of Polyamide I got at a Thrift store and it is one of my favorites for camping as sparks from the campfire don't bother it. Leather is also suitable for that reason. We all know what happens when the smallest of sparks hit a nylon jacket!
I've just received a jumper that I bought online. The tags say British wool, 100%. The fabric doesn't feel like wool in touch so it got worried. I'm not a specialist but to me wool shouldn't feel too smooth (unless cashmere?). I rushed to YT for advice and made a test on these tiny little bits of fibres that would ruin the whole thing. Now I'm at least fairly sure it's not some synthetic. It burns quickly, smeels similarly to burnt hair and turns into ash. If my nose is tricking me and I'm not indentifying the smell correctly, it might still be something else than wool. I don't know what cotton smells like.

Cotton smells more like paper burning and has a lighter colored ash.
When you take your knife out at the store and start chopping...
Maybe I'll do a video on stealth knife deployment and maybe one on sharpening so you don't need to chop.
