  • Josh's dad Steve Powell wasn’t keen on having police visit his house.
    It was Dec. 17, 2009; 10 days since his daughter-in-law Susan Powell had vanished from the West Valley City, Utah home she shared with her husband, Josh Powell.
    Detectives were preparing to speak with Steve face-to-face to see what, if anything, he knew.
    Josh Powell was then the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance and presumed murder. West Valley City police didn’t know it, but Josh was that same day seeing a physical therapist for a shoulder injury.
    Steve wanted to make sure his conversation with police took place somewhere other than his home.
    On the same day that Steve was talking to the detectives in Washington, Josh was visiting a physical therapist in Utah.
    A driver had hit the back of Josh’s minivan on Sept. 2, 2009, two months prior, causing minor damage to the van’s tailgate. He did not report the crash to police but did open a claim with his insurance company.
    Josh also went to a clinic that day complaining of neck and back pain. He received a prescription for cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant. He immediately began seeing a chiropractor, though not the same one Susan already frequented.
    Susan mentioned the crash in several emails and Facebook messages during September and October of 2009. In one, she described Josh’s injury as “classic whiplash stuff.”
    With this exclusive information obtained by Cold, we get into this, and much more, in Episode 6: Josh in the Wind

    If you in your 20’s and your husband gets you to take out a million dollars in insurance, get the hell out. If you are in your 20’s and your husband wants medical and durable power of attorney over you, he’s a sociopath or as they say nowadays a narcissistic. He can’t have any real feelings , he couldn’t have if he murdered those boys.

      Exactly, I would never give my husband or whoever except my mom power of attorney, unless it’s for specific reason. Also I wouldn’t never get life insurance in my 20s or 30s and not for that much. She was too naive in her early years. Mormons get married to early.

    You'd think that after being turned down by so many females, after whining about how no females would give him the time of day & how he just couldn't seem to connect, that when he finally DID get lucky enough to land a relationship, he would treat his partner like a queen... or at least treat her decently. Not only did he land 2 relationships, but both women basically let him walk all over them, gave him all of their money, and took care of everything for him. And he STILL treated them like shit. What a loser!

      Girlfriend, let me give you a big gift. You look young (not hating). Research narcissism. It can save you a lifetime of pain. Maybe even your life. Narcissism is deadly! Think: Casey Anthony, Paris Bennett, Alex Whipple. All of them were raised by narcissists.

The relationship between Charity and her mom was rocky and she had extricated herself from her mom for a long time. It wasn't until Paris was put in the institution in Texas the first time that she tried to fix their relationship. His grandmother was the narcissist who not only Got off from killing charity, 's own father, and bragged on camera about being able manipulate the jury, but she inserted herself back into Paris' s life after he killed his sister and completely ignored her own daughters wishes. She continued to stir the pot by sending him comics he was not supposed to have. She encouraged him to sue his mom encouraged him to try to get charity 's parental rights terminated and given to his grandmother. There is a really good documentary about him called. My son killed my daughter. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. So much information about herself her family and her son is given. Paris is also interviewed and he will make your skin crawl. I think a huge factor into Josh's horrific decision to take his and the boys' life had to do with what they witnessed, as they obviously were revealing incriminating information to various people, and Josh seemed to grow progressively more and more paranoid after murdering Susan. Based on his clearly narcissistic personality (possibly psychopathic too), the testimonies of their close friend's and family, what was already uncovered in the boys' sessions with investigators, and the impending legal implications which would undoubtedly result in the them being around Susan's family, it seems as though his subsequent actions all revolved around guarding his initial crimes and secrets. I truly don't want to bash Susan, but it is incredibly difficult to fathom how anyone could feel comfortable around Josh or his father, let alone safe. Their behavior and language are beyond unsettling, even when they appear to be acting what they believe is "normal".

      @@FSUruizfamily Absolutely nothing can explain it in a meaningful way. The aftermath is the physical manifestation of an unbelievably disturbed, pathological psyche, likely formed as a result of, or in addition to, years of programming and progressive enabling by an incredibly toxic family system. Clinically speaking however, the primary motive was power. That's exactly why they kill others in addition to themselves; to show their contempt for the world/society, while controlling as much of the narrative as possible.

      Possession is NOT love. These children were not allowed to be themselves. He wanted to have a couple of mini joshs not Charlie and Braden.
      Also he did seem to favor Charlie over Braden as Charlie had similar personality traits like his love for buildings things and architecture... teachers described him as brilliant and innovative and creative independent thinker.
      Braden was more like a typical young child and seemed to be needy ...
      Some of that could be the age difference and maybe susan showing so much attention to him because of his age and his lost of her when he was barely 2.
      But even when Charlie was so young he was labeled as different.
      More like his father than Braden.
      This would certainly pull josh into having a keen interest in Charlie.
      Honestly I don't know just drawing my own conclusions based on what I have learned.
      As for what they witnessed. Doubt they saw josh murder their mother but they may have noticed their mother wasn't with them on the ride home.
      I don't think he murdered her during the camping trip.
      I think he did it at home after they returned from gas station and she was getting ready for bed he sneaks up on her and strikes her over head with the impact driver while he distracts the boys.
      He wraps her in a blanket and loads her into back of van explaining to his curious son that mommy's sleeping and drives out to desert and dumps body.
      I don't think he buried her into the snow storm...
      Instead contacts his brother Michael to move the body. She's loaded into michael car and dumps her into some river or lake.
      Already known that susan was in michaels car as the dogs 🐕 found something of decomp weeks later when his car was sold for scrap at auto body junk services.
      Unfortunately the dna was so degraded she couldn't be identified
      She's gone... josh is dead and took her buried site with him.
      The only solice I found in this despicable act is that the boys are finally with their mother... josh faces a different kind of judgement with much harsher consequences. thats how it should be.
      Rip susan Charlie and Braden.
      Sympathy and prayers for the coxes and all who loved susan and her precious sons. 😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    I cannot imagine what was going through the detectives minds after first having witnessed all the bizarre behavior with Josh, to then get inside of the absolutely disturbed mind of his father, Steve. I don't know which is creepier - his behavior, or the words he used to articulate his sick and deranged obsession with Susan, which shows just how unbelievably detached from reality he was. I literally want to vomit every time he speaks about her, using the quintessential verbiage of everything defining disturbing and creepy. You honestly can't make this stuff up.

      I hate how they drug around waiting on more evidence. I've seen them arrest and detain ppl with a lot less evidence and no body. They waited too long on this because any jury would've seen thru his story and convicted him. With his lies alone. Knowing he had her cellphone, he took out the Sim card, he called it many times to make it seem like she had it, the notes she left at work and the neighbors testimony about the day before when he also lied to cops. They had plenty of probable cause. Cops like cps Failed these kids.

    • @alabama.worley
      @alabama.worley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TruecrimeSalads One can't be convicted on lies alone, and a judge will rarely sign off on an arrest warrant based on weak circumstantial evidence, especially in no body cases. More could have been done and should have been done prior to Susan's disappearance/murder, and surely before the incident with the boys, but our judicial system isn't perfect, and there are laws in place to protect every citizen, including victims and offender's. The lead detective in Susan's case did a phenomenal job, and continued searching for her far longer than most would have.

  • @luns486
    @luns486 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Theory: he poisoned her with the pancakes and got himself and the boys (as well as Susan's friend) out of the house "to go sledding" so that he didn't have to watch her die a painful death on the couch. He was a total coward after all. Whatever he poisoned her with made her cough up blood, hence the blood splatter on the tiles near the couch. She wiped the blood from her mouth and steadied herself on the sofa, hence her blood smeared on the top of the couch, later cleaned by josh. Whatever happened after that point I'm not sure, but I think something got in the way of whatever his original plan was. Likely his original plan included her body being found, in some way that suggested he was not responsible for her death, as this was the only way to claim her life insurance. Something got in the way of whatever that original plan was and he panicked, which is why he went on the "camping trip". The reason I assume that the camping trip wasn't a premeditated alibi is because it is such a terrible one. It only serves to create suspicion, not to deflect it. Beyond that, I'm not sure what happened.
    Would love to hear other people's thoughts on the above.

      No - very find droplets indicate spinning of the impact driver connection head.
      I think J came back , found Susan was still alive. Then he put the boys in the master bed room (assuming it an ensuite bathroom).
      Then Josh used the impact driver to drive screws , preferably roofing type but more likely heavy wood screws with Philips heads into her skull until she was dead. That's why the impact driver had blood on the spindle. That's why he had to burn it up. He was very very lucky he did not take along that impact driver, say in a plastic bag, on that road trip in his van . He must have stashed it around the house.. . be sure it was in the freezer. Remember the house search was done the next day - perhaps in mid morning.
      Dave C does a whole episode on the impact driver and burning it up using an oxy set and how long it would have taken that night. What he found is very compelling.

    I dont know if he planned it exactly. His alibi makes no sense whatsoever. The date and time of his alibi is suspicious in itself. If he was planning this, why plan it for a day when you'll be missed? Assuming Susan didnt work weekends. Friday night? It's hard to grasp his logic sometimes. And he didnt seem to understand how odd he was perceived by everyone else. Its possible that he never even considered that she'd be missed immediately because he was such a narcissist. Similar to Chris Watts. But I think it's more likely that he hurt her in a rage during or after a fight.

I could not lift my arm it literally wouldn't move. The only function of my arm was from my elbow down. No way he'd had that for months.

    Horrible plan. Who would leave midnight on Monday morning to go camping with two small children in a blizzard, when you have to work in the morning and your kids have daycare?
    Did Susan figure out that Josh was poisoning her? She thought him capable of hurting her according to the journals.Did she confront him, and he was forced to kill her? I think this whole plan reeks of desperation. Something happened that night that foiled Josh's long-term insurance collection plan.
    I think he must have been trying to slowly poison her death. Either she died unexpectedly that night from an unintentional overdose, or she figured out that Josh was making her sick, confronted him, and he killed her.
    The melted metal object hidden in the car, that's the murder weapon. I dunno if was a gun, or a drill, or a blunt object, but pretty sure that's the weapon.

    • @AngelAngel-wy5sd
      @AngelAngel-wy5sd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the melted metal was something else which us why it was hidden under the seat. He melted that piece of metal as a test for something else. He forgot about it under the seat. He hid it because he didn't want Susan to find it, but he didn't want to throw it out. Sheet rock isn't cheap so I'm sure he planned to do something else with the material to get his monies worth.

    • @nikkishears6402

    • @AngelAngel-wy5sd
      @AngelAngel-wy5sd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikkishears6402 I think he was poisoning her. He told her he loved her that one day, and that's when she started feeling sick. He had sex with her to make her think the reason she was sick was because she was pregnant. Making her food when she typically cooked even on her birthday is highly suspect. I think she figured out what was going on and he had no choice but to kill her. The question is how? There is little blood spatter. Nose bleeding? I'm not sure how the blood got there but maybe from coughing or bleeding from the nose or mouth?

    • @nikkishears6402
      @nikkishears6402 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AngelAngel-wy5sd , that's my theory, except the blood splatter. We have no idea of how much blood there was, because Josh was able to clean before a search warrant was issued.
      The torch was for destroying evidence. The melted metal object was evidence of murder. Otherwise it wouldn't have been burned.

    • @AngelAngel-wy5sd
      @AngelAngel-wy5sd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikkishears6402 I think Josh hid that melted metal because he was too lazy to throw it out. He definitely used that torch for destroying evidence, I don't think that metal was apart of it. I think that metal was a test run for the torching of other evidence. Josh wanted to be sure it worked. He didn't want anyone to see it/find it in the trash so he hid it under his seat until he could throw it out properly. He forgot about it and thought he would have time to get rid of it.
