- Towards the end of the Susan Powell investigation, police turned their attention to Josh's brother, Michael. Detectives were confused by Michael's involvement, especially after the immediate circumstances of Susan's disappearance. KSL's true-crime podcast COLD obtained video documentation of the police's involvement and questioning with Michael Powell.

I 100% believe that both the brother and the father were involved.

The prosecutor is the 1 that said they couldn't arrest him Washington dshs is the biggest failure letting him have visits at home a direct violation of the judges orders because he made people at the center uncomfortable

He isnt smart, he just isnt saying anything and he looks completely like he is lying. Stone faced, expressionless. On the guilty questions, he says 1-4 words and then looks down. All of them totally weird.

What a family is psychopaths, except for the sister who trued to get Josh to confess. The Powell men in the family were sick, cold, emotionless psychopaths. All of them complicit in murder, two died by suicide and the father (a pedophile) died in prison.
Even she is not to be trusted. For a while she blamed the children's death on the police and media. Saying they drove her brother mad and that's why he killed his children.

I think Jeniffer murdered Susan and the brothers were covering up the crime for her. I think Susan thought Josh would crack so she blew him up and accidentally blew up the boys. She later murdered the last witness, Michael and made it look like an accident

He took the boys’ lives because he and his father had been harming the boys in the most unspeakable ways you can imagine. Think pictures, videos, and actions done to them and posted to the internet to share with their fellow “types.” Josh and his father weren’t just stalkers and killers, they were attracted to the most innocent human beings there are if you catch my drift. It was all on the computers.
Definitely an evil family who have a lot to hide!!

As an Int. guy, Michael would know it was important to remove the battery of his cell phone and not use it whilst scoping out a mine shaft and disposing of a body. Michaels car breaking down in Bakers City, suggests he may have disposed of the body somewhere near.
How such a breathtakingly beautiful, young lady got embroiled with that bunch of mindless, knuckle draggers beggars all belief.

It happens. When I'm out with my bf I get some very quizzical looks from people. It's not how someone looks that matters, it's much deeper than that.
I wouldn’t go that far. Breathtaking? Sorry to say this but there was screws loose in her as well. She stayed with all of these issues going on. She was also raised in a cult. Yes. Mormons & religious orgs are all cults in my eyes. Just bc she’s dead, and people do this quite often, doesn’t mean she was perfect. I’ve read, listened to, watched almost everything about this case. It was a case study we did for college. Her husband was creepy- she still wanted to be with him. Her father in law was creepy yet she stayed with her hubs who defended him. She and Josh took money from their church bc of their quacky decision. People who are raised in those cults use religion to overlook everything that’s F’d up & she did that as well.

He definitely was involved some way, shape, or form, there's no way he wasn't for 3 reasons, he was adamant about getting that satellite imagery of the wrecking yard where the car was, his eyes kept wavering and was very careful and selective in his interview, and he killed himself amidst all of this, I guarantee the father of these sons had knowledge of these things to right along with both sons.
The little 4yr old son said john didn't say where he took his mommy. See? Kids don't miss anything.

This case is so heartbreaking 💔 TBH..I wouldn't be surprised if his dad assaulted him and Josh when they were young🥺My thoughts and prayers are with Susan's family🕊🙏💜

I only learned of this case yesterday . Father in law Steve must have taught his sons well . Shame the pressure got to the boys . Hope there is closer for Susan's family soon .
i also learnt about this case very recently and decided to dig deeper. i found out theres a crew who only a week or two ago dug out a mineshaft that had gotten burnt and collapsed on purpose the same time Susan went missing. they found pieces of bone and clothing and they have been sent to forensics to test for DNA. this is probably the strongest evidence ever found and if it turns out to be hers we will know what happned. i also watched an interview with one of the children the from the day she went missing and he said that "she had stayed where the crystals are". Josh also stated at a dinner party that the way he would hide a body would be to throw them into an old mineshaft and collapse it. it all ties together and i think the case is getting solved within 30 days of this point, i atleast hope it does.
I hope there is closure also.

The brother seems so involved, I think they are, how sad they did not take a polygraph test and that car really had something to do of her disappearance. Disposing it away so far too much suspicion already and checking if it's was already destroyed. It's so frustrating like you are almost there to find out but it's still end up nothing.
I think the dad was hitting on Susan increasingly crossing appropriate physical and moral boundaries. When they moved to Utah she couldn't keep quiet anymore and insisted Josh cut off ties with his dad to protect her. This created an ultimatum in Josh's mind and he chose his scumbag dad over his wife. Michael's suicide...well you can fill in the blanks concerning that.
Very good and well thought out post !! I’ve watched and kept up with this case since the day it started. I think about all three of those morons have been removed from the earth. The worst part was those children and sadly questions that will never be fully answered. Creepy dad that I believe happened now most likely very close to the that you have surmised . I think creepy dad crossed a line with Susan and he was afraid that she was going to tell Josh or that she may even go to the authorities with. I think that Josh choose his creepy dad over his wife and children. You’ve certainly given me a different angle to think about it.

Theres a book called If I Can't Have You. I just finished reading it. Unfortunately it only goes up to 2014 but not much new has been discovered since.

What blows my mind is that Michael was such a crotch that he didn’t throw out a lifeline to his sister-in-law’s parents by telling them where her body is in a suicide note....everybody knew he was involved, his suicide only confirmed that, so it’s just horrid that he didn’t reveal where her remains could be found by the people who loved her most....her parents. What a depraved family of male psychopaths, with only sister Jennifer possessing a heart of gold!

My opinion.
They probably had this planned and learned a way to communicate. On the phone for hours.. as adult men? Even though they're brothers, adult men have their own lives and wont spend hours on the phone unless they're working on something. Men are not like women. They dont babble on and on. And if they do, it's at a bar. But certainly not over the phone. He definitely felt terrible. I'm sure they didnt plan for the boys to die and he more than likely felt a big part in their deaths.

Yea Michael killed himself about a year after. Probably didnt think it would turn to his brother and nephews dying as well. How sad. Imagine what he was going through for that year. Probably couldn't sleep.

Bet the reason that Michael got rid of the car is because he moved a body in it and guessed they would check his car. It's possible that he killed someone else and used his car and it had nothing to do with Susan.

It was Susan's. DNA degrades and it had been 21 months...almost 2 years. If there was no root attached to her hair they could not get DNA off of it. The bodily fluid or skin sample was way past its prime. Let michaels actions speak for themselves. Right after he found out he was a suspect in the disappearance of Susan, he jumps off a 7 story building. That is an INSANE way to commit suicide

One must wonder whose body was in that car if the cadaver dogs alerted! Perhaps Susan is not the first person to "disappear" at the hands of these men.
He killed her where the planes are. Mom told him she was to stay at the park they visited b4. She was going for the a while.
With a child, sleeping there is a way to tell children it will be for a day or more. He shot her. Where the planes flew over head. That's when he shot her. You can't here anything while the planes are taking off. She explained this to them because she knew she was being killed and wouldn't be going back with them. Where he took the body after that was camping with them. That late at night, the child gets confused very easy. Giving him many things to keep his mind confused and dad then can guide him as to what he wants him to believe. And not make sense to the cops. He was being groomed for that night all along.

This must be a much older video released two years ago because there's no way he believes his brother is innocent after murdering his two children by chopping them up and setting them on fire. I mean...only a VERY ill man can do something so HORRIFIC.

I live out here where it all happened and went to the funeral of the two young boys. The father Steve Powell recently died in a hospital. This is truly an evil family.
Michael knew something and couldn’t bare the guilt anymore.
Alina is the only living person who knows what happened and possibly where Susan’s remains are located and could help put this case to rest. But it may also incriminate her and regardless or not her lips are sealed and her heart is as black as all the others in her family (sans Jennifer, the good sister). Sadly, she will probably go to the grave with her secret

The most important aspect of this horror story is that Powell was, of course, extremely religious. Of course, he was. Only the insanity of religion could allow someone to think he had divine permission to burn his house down with his kids inside. Someone saying he's religious is a massive red flag, no matter what issue may be at hand. Religious people should be the first suspect in this sort of horror story. Amen.
How can one family be so screwed up?
It was totally SUSANS DNA IN THE CAR. However it degraded over 2 years
I was working as a mobile technician in a skilled labor trade in the exact area of Josh Powell's house where he committed his murder suicide and was actually unable to get to the address of my work order due to police tape it was that close to where the crime scene was. House was still smoldering, when I heard on the news what it was I had no idea that Josh Powell was even in my county and I thought he was in Utah or something.
My theory is josh killed susan with that pile driver that apparently was missing from his collection. He struck her with it, wrapped her body in the blanket police found in his storage unit which had her blood on it.
He drove out there to the springs to dump her body.
But he had trouble getting that done.
In that some 17 hours in the rental car with accounts unknown he called Michael and begged him to help him get rid of her. I'm sure Michael was reluctant to do it but went anyway because well its josh and apparently Michael was always cleaning up his brothers messes all his life.
If you look at their history. Michael had moved away from all of them to go into the service. His future was set before John dragged him back into his crap.
Not excusing him for being his accomplice just stating his fact.
Michael wanted to get away from his sick family. He might have had that chance like Jenny. He was in a masters program in Chicago so far away from Seattle and his sick family.
His future was bright before all this sick 💩💩💩💩💩💩
Then josh calls in a panic I killed my wife etc and Michael drops his whole life to go

Susan is stuffed into Michael car and God only knows where they dumped her.
Michael trashes his car at Lindells thinking his involvement will be scrapped. Then police get the tip and seize the car and sent dogs go right to the trunk but there no dna to collect. But hey you can figure it out.
Now Michael is trapped cannot go back to his life because josh is falling apart being hounded by police so Michael moves in to the family home and is sucked back into insanity support his brother as always.
Yes I do believe as the police started to figure it all out and Michael couldn't live with his shame. As a military man he went fir that code death before dishonor and did a swan dive off the parking garage. His guilt and disgrace drove him to it.
At one point he might have had a chance to be free of the sick powel secrets but them josh pulled him back into that orbit with no place to go but down.😢🤢🤯💩☠️
He also committed suicide as soon as they find out he was involved

She talks about never being able to break him...his eye movements spoke volumes...is she blind? I reached this conclusion before I found out the details of the case...as convoluted as they are...If she had pressed him hard on his involuntary movements during that disposition then maybe she would have gotten somewhere
The attorneys should have anticipated his skill in interrogation. I have fifteen years in the private intelligence sector and the tactics used by local state and federal agencies would have been easily seen by Michael. But it’s for naught because obviously he couldn’t live with himself in the end.

Life insurance shouldn't be paid out for people who are missing or murdered. Sure would prevent some deaths.

This true Crime Case is interesting, fascinating, chilling, weird, creepy, sad and more it has all the factors that keep you gripped to it I just want to know what they did with her body, it seems the only way to track it down since their phones were off would be cameras on the road or gas station cameras or I'm sure they already went through his bank card purchases at the time, which just leaves cameras and that's a needle in a haystack. After seeing this her dead body had to be in that car, and he then killed himself fearing he was the only one left and they were still looking.
