FEMA was actively stopping private citizens from distributing their own goods to stranded people because they claimed they needed to take inventory and distribute it as they see fit.
FEMA also said they don’t have enough money to help these people. Meanwhile they used almost a billion dollars to help illegal immigrants crossing the border.

A few very good resources that have been going around and talking to other folks while clean-up is happening. They all have things to say about what is and isn't going on. I keep seeing "journalists" saying be careful about misinformation, but the things locals are putting out doesn't jive with what is being reported. So who do you choose to believe? I personally listen to the folks on the ground who are living it.

We did have neighbors helping each other and strangers may show up to help with news. It was 4 days before we realized we could get hot food and showers 2 miles down the road. We got there and also found food, cleaning supplies, water. FEMA helped us eventually get a temporary trailer and assistance to replace belongings then repair/rebuild. It's a long process.

One sherif he says “I was born here and lived all my life, my community, it’s gone, it’s not there anymore,”. I was in the area mid Sept. and it was raining some everyday then, they got rain for two weeks before the hurricane rains, that’s why the flooding was so bad, they were at flood stage before 20 inches of rain fell in 24 hours. Watch the resident uploaded videos, there’s go fund-me’s every where, there Facebook groups for the area residents to communicate through, It’s just pretty wild, I remember the beautiful drive into S.Carolina on I-40, towards Greenville, on Sept 13th, the 14th it rained around noon, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and leaving Wednesday morning it rained some part of each day, They got soaked than, I remember parking lots around Boone N.Carolina were flooded already, It’s not hard to see how it happened having been there.

Same thing happened in 1916. Was it unnatural then too? Storm from the west dumped rain for days in 1916 and then a tropical storm hit days after. Voila. Same thing happened this time.

This is how it's supposed to be, other journalists need to stop pretending they're just an omnipresent lens or somehow outside of the experience, lending a hand is the human thing to do. Also what hasn't been spoken about much is that the already was already flooded extensively before the hurricane hit, compounding the issue far worse. And yes, it will take years, even to this day, we're still learning things about Katrina and the aftermath. Although in this case, the recovery has been far more organized, partly in thanks to management strategies and the availability of new tech.

It's above freezing most of the year here and many people have fire places and wood stoves, but it's going to get down to the 40s at night this week and there are so many of us still without power. 😞
