@@swayback7375 Well I guess I should have said ‘next to nothing’ for picky people like you! Many of the homes in the Appalachians aren’t more than shacks but, yes, they WERE their homes!
@@JoanBrown-j3e I’m not sure you realize how patronizing it sounds when you say “these people already had nothing”, even belittling. I’m a few hours away from the devastation, I don’t live on a mountain or in a shack but I’ve spent a fair amount of time up in mountains in Kentucky, I’m pretty well aware of how folks live up there… there’s loads of new construction all through the region, those often aren’t locals, they’re semi wealthy people building compounds and playgrounds… or just rich people suburbs… that’s a lot of what I’ve seen being shown online, and there are indeed some folks living in “shacks in the woods”… but that’s mostly just a stereotype, it sounds like you fell for it. Lots of these people live modestly on very little and live in family homes, or build fairly simple homes on family land, they’re not wealthy but they’re surviving and doing ok. It’s not like we _need_ all this stuff that most suburban Americans have to live a content life. It’s pretty hard to live that far out any but living that far out and “having nothing” is next to impossible and no one in the mountains lives that way, very few I should say… there’s no homelessness out there, and if you have a home then you have something, When someone looks at what you have and dismisses it as nothing, that’s disrespectful, it’s belittling and it’s hurtful, whether you meant it that way or not, no different than men patronizing women and treating them like incapable children… If they had nothing then they didn’t lose anything, right? If they had nothing before, why weren’t we helping out before this? If they had nothing already, and have nothing now, that sounds like nothing changed, so why bother to help? Am I getting my point across? I’m afraid I’m not… I’m not the most articulate, I wasn’t trying to offend, I doubt you were trying either, one need not try to do harm for harm to be done. After the storm plowed through Asheville, I couldn't get in touch with my mom and little brother for about 4 days until my roads were cleared enough to finally make it through towards downtown. Thankfully they were okay and weathering the aftermath fairly well, but the not knowing was killing me the entire time. Very glad it has a happy ending. There are sadly very many stories right now that don't.
I am also in the US without family. The really sad part is most of us living. Cannot afford insurance on a house. North Carolina requires flood insurance on top of regular insurance for most homes. What a good son!!! Reminds me of MY son! My son got to me everyday during the Texas freeze. We were stranded. He brought water & food everyday and charged our phones. He finally talked me into going to his house. He had electricity and water. He spent his days checking on people and taking water to lots of people. What a good Christian man my son. Love from one mom who loves her son to another!!! Great video. Thanks! Praying here in Austin TX USA
@myrnawashington9057 I am disabled and can not drive in ice. You are mean because you assume I'm a bad mom. And telling me what a bad mom I am, without even knowing our situation. I have put my son first in my life, after Jesus. It is not easy with no responsible husband to help me or even EVER paying any child support. Because of my caring parenting, my son has gotten a good education and now owns his own successful company. But all of this is because of my help & support. I taught him how to run a company. Always took him to church. Always spent time with he and I spending time with both of his grandparents. Even being divorced, I actually gave his dad money to pay for gas and a nice weekend, to come spend time with my son. Because I didn't want him to know his dad wouldn't have come without it. What mom pays the crappy husband for the expense of visiting his own son??!!! Just so my son would have a relationship with his dad!! I always made sure he could go to the best schools. Get a good education. My son came by and caught me crying about your mean words. He told me I was the best mom, and he wouldn't want anything different in our lives. After Jesus, my son is the most important thing in my life. But I still always questioned myself about if I was doing the best job I could. At 43, he & I (and his wife) are very close. And they are the biggest joy in my life. I DO NOT OWE YOU any explanation!!! But I explain, so maybe next time, you will THINK about your words more carefully. And NOT say MEAN things about people you have no idea about!!! But honestly, I don't have any faith in you, or people like you, who need to say MEAN WORDS to others in order to feel better about yourself!!! Please prove me wrong and be nicer and supportive of others!!! I'm not sure you even can. What we all need to do, is make OURSELVES BETTER! But I don't have any Faith in you since you could not even recognize your mean, and wrong comments! YOU, are the kind of person that screws up our country and our world!

just think and now a week later, theres another hurricane coming across barelling towards florida to take out the rest of the eastern side of the states before the election. "feels like timed storms to me" especially when the fking government is doing nothing to help them. its sicking.
I love how you ended this with people, just common people, helping one another. They aren't waiting for the government to take action or tell them what to do. They are simply finding out what the needs are and offering what they can to meet that need. It actually makes me want to be a part of that kind of community. Well done.

I broke down crying watching the part where she said she didn’t know how to say help in English. There’s a community of Mexican/Central Americans in North Carolina I hope they’re able to get the help they need and deserve.
This story is heartbreaking. You see, I live in Charlotte which is just about two hours away from Asheville. Many of my friends and relatives have passed because of this horrible hurricane. Let’s just hope another one doesn’t come and kill more people. As you can see, more people in our society need to learn the devastating damage these storms can cause so they can prevent damage from future storms.
And what that means is learning about climate change, the reason that hurricanes are becoming more powerful, frequent and devastating and then vote Blue as if your life depends on it, because it most likely does.
This video brought me to tears. My city was also affected by hurricane Helene, but nowhere near the level of devastation you see in Ashville. Yet, even though most of us were much better off, the way my community has come together is amazing. My family was very fortunate in the sense that we didnt lose our home, nor did most of our family (we had one family member who unfortunately lost their home to a generator fire, but fortunately everyone is ok. Things can be replaced, but not people), and my grandmother, who lives around the corner from us in a different neighborhood, got power 3 days after the storm, so we were able to save a lot of our food we had in coolers. We were also fortunate in the sense that my dad's work took care of us, offering food, water, and ice (and coffee. They fortunately have a direct line of power, so they never lost power) We got very lucky, and we have neighbors who are amazing, and were out the morning after the storm with chainsaws and forklifts clearing the road and driveways. My heart hurts for those in Ashville that lost everything, and those who lost loved ones in Ashville.
An unfortunate coincidence: my grandmother on my mother's side grew up in Asheville, N.C. My grandparents on mybfathers side grew up in Princeville, N.C. that was destroyed in 1999 (Hurricane Floyd). I moved to Princeville N.C. in 2016 when Hurricane Mathew hit (literally a week after moving everything from NYC). I got lucky, but most houses were destroyed yet again. Took 7 years for this place to rebuild from 2016. I wish Asheville residents the best. The road will be long and hard. Many people may permanently move away... but you will rebuild ❤
I live in Spokane Washington. Nowhere near this, but it absolutely breaks my heart to see how many people lost their homes. Lost their lives lost everything. I just can’t imagine sending so many prayers and love and happy thoughts their way.

This is the first documented video I’ve seen someone take the time to speak and document an immigrant Hispanic family in Asheville North Carolina area that was effected by the hurricane and it breaks my heart, I understand the loneliness and I hope they’re getting the help they need. I am so happy you were able to reunite with your mom this video truly is beautiful thank you for documenting what you can. More than 100 languages are spoken in my area of western WA. FYI

Nothing by your standard maybe… they had a place to live at the least.
It’s pretty hard to live that far out any but living that far out and “having nothing” is next to impossible and no one in the mountains lives that way, very few I should say… there’s no homelessness out there, and if you have a home then you have something,
When someone looks at what you have and dismisses it as nothing, that’s disrespectful, it’s belittling and it’s hurtful, whether you meant it that way or not, no different than men patronizing women and treating them like incapable children…
If they had nothing then they didn’t lose anything, right?
If they had nothing before, why weren’t we helping out before this?
If they had nothing already, and have nothing now, that sounds like nothing changed, so why bother to help?
Am I getting my point across?
I’m afraid I’m not… I’m not the most articulate, I wasn’t trying to offend, I doubt you were trying either, one need not try to do harm for harm to be done.
Have a good day
@@JoanBrown-j3e actually Asheville is or was, a VERY nice and affluent part the Appalachia's... lots of hippies and hikers off the AT and def crunchy but also very wealthy areas. you know literally nothing about the area you are ssso heavily putting down.

After the storm plowed through Asheville, I couldn't get in touch with my mom and little brother for about 4 days until my roads were cleared enough to finally make it through towards downtown. @myrnawashington9057 Does it make you feel good to be mean???

PRAISE GOD FOR THIS PEOPLE HELPING OTHER PEOPLE!
