Amazing man, I have to level up my texture paint skills. For now, I use palettes for low poly mobile assets. Btw. what's the most efficient unwrap for mobiles? I heard that smart UV unwrap is going hard on the engine.

That hammer is so low poly, yet your texture painting is so amazing that it covered it up Also the explanation is short, simple, to the point, and easy to remember!
it is not low poly, its appropriate amount of polys for the art style there are lots of assets you think are high poly but actually almost no assets are high poly, tons of assets are super SUPER low poly because of preformacne reasons and the fact that all 3D rendering has evolved to not need high poly.
@@axos3130 I don't think this particular asset used baking from a high poly object like most do, I think what he meant is that grant abbitt got really got detail with just hand painting alone
@@axos3130 "appropriate amount of polys for the art style" doesn't negate the fact that it is, in fact, a low-poly model Eta: after counting the faces in the uv window, it's got like 130 tris. That counts as low-poly for an object like this
I love it when people have sense to make a video tutorial, and get straight to the point. Thanks so much Grant for sticking to the point, please keep up the great work.
This tutorial actually works and makes sense. Blender loves to totally gut and rebuild the UI every 39 seconds or so, hence older tutorials are no longer valid because you need to click on things that literally no longer exist. Even the _official_ tutorials have the same problem.
that is very true, and it gives creators a great excuse to keep making tutorials! This weakness is a byproduct of blenders greatest strength which is just their ability to progress without baggage.
One thing I don't like about some of these tutorials is the use of the workspace tabs at the top. What the tutorial will fail to mention most of the time is what going into a tab does. When you go from Layout into something like Texture Paint, you will automatically be brought into the Texture Paint Mode. You can only do certain things while in this mode, such as see your Texture Slots for that object. If you're not told all the little changes that occur while switching between tabs at the top, you will struggle to figure out where menus and functions go if you accidently tab into edit mode and back into object mode. This is like my 5th time trying to navigate texture painting because of all the set up you need to do before you can even start the painting process.
That is one of the things I like about his tutorials actually. He tries to incorporate the workspace tabs because that is the direction that blender is going. Like you say there are many things that happen automatically when switching tabs. In the texture paint tab for instance, when you create new diffuse, spec, metallic or roughness maps they are automatically connected to the correct sockets for the material as seen in the shading tab. There are many such little things with more to come. Grant embraces this and I appreciate that.
Well he warned at the beginning that the tutorial wasn't for complete beginners and to make sure you understood the interface, you're comment makes no sense in this specific video
