- In November, we took a road trip to the Kii Peninsula 紀伊半島 to ride bikes in Wakayama, Mie, and Nara Prefectures. We got to go camping in Kawayu Onsen and bike on some amazing gravel roads!
This is part one, about the first half of our weekend. On day 1 we biked from Nabari in Mie Prefecture, and on day 2 we went from Kawayu Onsen to Shirahama on the Pacific Ocean coast.

Really love these videos of cycling and Japan! Really heartwarming video too!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Recently I found lots of Kumamoto Kodo videos on TH-cam, and it is so nice to see the views of the same area from cyclists. Thanks😊 BTW, at the foot of the Ginko tree, there was an auto tricycle😮 I believed that type of vehicles were long gone from Japan. It is like seeing an animal that fell into their extinction a long long time ago, wondering why it still exists in Wakayama???
Thank you for watching! And yes, you noticed! The owner of the auto tricycle was actually taking photos of it below the tree - its a vintage one that he had restored, and he takes it to vintage vehicle shows. It seemed really rare! The light blue/green color was beautiful
nice video
Thank you! 😄
That route looked like a great ride. The road closure thing has happened to me so many times in rural Japan. A lot of the old mountain roads get damaged in typhoons or earthquakes and just end up not being repaired as so few people use them nowadays. Komoot often doesn't know, of course. It's so lucky that the construction worker was there. I have had to turn back and try and reroute a lot of times. Wakayama looks so beautiful. I've only passed through it once on my bike on the way to Nara after taking the ferry from Tokushima. If you like Wakayama, you'll love Shikoku.
Yes, you get it! There are so many beautiful rural roads, but unfortunately that means they're not always needing to be repaired quickly haha. Wakayama was really nice, I didn't know what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised by both the forests and the ocean views. Shikoku sounds amazing then - Hope to go this year!
