Just got back from California yesterday (live in NZ, so LOOONG flight & I'm still jet lagged after 10 hour sleep) - My wife and I watched our kids (14 and 16) doing Savi's workshop early on in our trip, and it was an outstanding experience from my perspective - very expensive - but worth the money. The actors were amazing, the ambiance was spot on, and as a Star Wars fan since I was 3 (nearly 47 years now) - it just triggered all the right buttons in me. The kids loved it too - and the final sabers are decent enough quality - I'm sure you can get much better for the same or less money - but they don't come with the experience - and most importantly, both my boys treasure them. One negative I have is I'm not much of a Disney fan anymore after this trip - whilst I found California Adventure generally very good (though everything is SO much more expensive since I was there last in 2001 - way more than I anticipated - we ended up around $4000 over what we budgeted for on incidental spending - which is just an insane amount of money for basics like food and impulse spending) - Disney Land itself has become a bit of a miserable place - they let too many people in - we were there on a Friday night, and on the main street during the fireworks, you literally could not move at all. After the fireworks we spent ages shuffling through insane crowds trying to get where we wanted to go, and constantly being blocked by barriers. For the Fantasmic Show, if we hadn't done the Fantasmic dining experience with reserved seating, I doubt we would have been able to see much. Even during the Thursday, If we hadn't had the fast passes, and my oldest son wasn't so good at gaming them to our advantage, I suspect we would have spent most of our time waiting in queues. When I was there in 2001, even during peak summer, it was nowhere near as over-crowded. They really need to look at improving park management and not over-selling tickets. Also the number of ride breakdowns was ridiculous - Rise of the Resistance we only JUST managed to do once because almost the whole of the rest of the day it was out of action - we really wanted to do it again, because it is really, really good - but again, after we'd been on it once, it was out of action until closing. Disney land was no better with rides like Indiana Jones and even Haunted House being out of action on and off most of the two days (my son used this to our advantage by gaming the system for extra fast passes just from booking rides we suspected would break down - so it did mean we had very little in the way of wait times - but I doubt most visitors would be able to manage this) Oh well, I'm nearly 50 now, and given this trip has wiped out nearly a year of savings, no doubt I'll never be back - but it's not the park I remember from when I was 26 and went there the first time.
I just did this last week and all I can say is it was definitely worth it for me. If you are a Star Wars fan and always wanted to build a lightsaber, you should take advantage of this awesome experience.
Got to do mines 2 days ago on my birthday and it was a fun experience. Definitely right about some of the peaces looking better or different in person. Watched some videos on what I was going to build but ended up building something different than what I imagined in my head.
My wife and I took my 14 and 16 year old sons, and for me it was the highlight of the Disney/California Adventure experience. Having said that, somet of the rest of it, especially the Disney Land side, was made miserable by insane overcrowding and constant ride breakdowns - some of that might be due to the Oggie-Boogie Halloween stuff that was going on at the same time - but the ride breakdowns were pretty inexcusable and IMO, point to cost cutting on engineering & maintenance. Anyway, this bit was totally worth it in my opinion.
I’m going to Disney in May with my boyfriend and we’re going to do this. We’re doing it for the star wars experience rather than the actual light saber, so I’m glad you came out with this video because we were scared it wasn’t going to be worth it for the price. Are the light sabers heavy or do they feel like store bought ones? Also, is it mainly for children or is it an experience that we can appreciate as well?
It truly is an experience that anyone can enjoy. Especially Star Wars fans. The light saber quality is actually amazing. I was taken back how good the quality turned out to be. Not disappointed after spending $200. The show, the experience, all of it, got me right in the feels.
Also I am very excited to hear that you are going! I get excited when friends go on these kinds of trips because I know how much fun they’re going to have!
@@TheCampbellChronicles Oh wow that’s awesome!! I’m very excited! If we like it we’re going to do the build a droid experience at the Droid Depot the next time. It was too costly to do both LOL!
DISCLAIMER: I just got mine. He didn't really elaborate on the quality. I say just save your money for a top-market 600 dollar one. The Saber ignites in segments quickly, it is NOT a seamless ignition, and the waving doesn't register to the Saber sometimes, it's extremely dim (very very disappointing), and lastly there's a bad delay on tapping things and half the time it can't tell you're hitting anything. The experience was pretty cool. I'll shout that from the rooftops. The experience was, well, quite an experience, but the product is just shit.
I just did one. Really my son just built one two days ago. We’ve gone several times to Disneyland and gotten a few legacy lightsaber. He’s never gotten to build one. So we’ve went to Disney Hollywood Studios and built one their. The build experience was far worth it, just seeing my Kid’s expression. However, the your description on quality is spot on. Maybe I’m a bit OCD but the parts don’t really align perfectly with parts put together. Although they screw and lock tightly together. The internal chassis and the decorative external pieces flex/wiggle at the joints. Just doesn’t feel solid when saying it around. Another thing thing to note, these things are heavy once put all together. Much more than any of the legacy sabers we own. Like mention above, the ignition isn’t seamless nor does it register all impacts. Our sabers spend more time as display pieces rather than in use, so no big deal to use. Another thing to note, they raised the price. It used to be be $219.99 for most legacy sabers / build experience 6 months ago, but now it’s $249.99. Also, for the price I wished they gave the option of choosing the blade length. For my kid, I like him to have the 26” , so it’s easier to stuff in the luggage.
Quality wise ? probably not. You can get more durable sabers from other companies but the experience of building it even though its a short presentation was worth it to me.
Im a big starwars fan and am relly interested in the experance but i can’t justify 200$ when I can get one from imperial workshop that’s neopixl and smooth swing and all that good stuff yes it’s not fullly custom and it’s not the full experience but I’d rather have a crazy realistic Luke hilt with 15 fonts I think maybe more and quick color changeing for 275 they do have one that shows the crystal and has a light that changes with the blade that looks relly cool and it being full metal yah you don’t get to see the kyber crystal and get the full experience of the workshop but that’s just my opinion
That’s totally fair! I get it. Having done the experience it would be hard for me to want to do it again. Although I did just pick up their dark saber. That thing is pretty awesome. I want to get a new video of that up but it’ll probably come after I get this most recent trip edited.
Great video, questions on the rancor tooth is that only available with the elemental kit? Can't mix with the power and control parts? Also is there a way to carry the rancor tooth end on your belt with a clip holder wasn't seeing a d-ring on that?
That’s is correct. Only available with the elemental kit. Although…don’t quote me on this as I know supplies are limited. When we were there during our latest trip I saw a rancor tooth hilt sold separately. And to your second question yes! The do sell a specific belt clip for these! I had to buy one!!
Do you get to choose your kyber crystal color? Or is it more of a first come first serve thing? Like if I want to build a red lightsaber, but all the red crystals are taken?
Great question. They always have enough of the color that you want when you first build. (Blue red green and purple) If you don’t see it right away just ask one of the cast members and they can help you out. With the exception of white black and yellow. They only sell those colors separately.
Getting it home is pretty easy. It’ll count as a personal item on a plane. As long as they have them in stock it comes with a carrying case. The blade itself is made of a color changing led strip surrounded by a very sturdy plastic. This allows an epic saber battle!!
@@TheCampbellChronicles thanks! i’m going to the USA this summer, (i’m from Belgium) gonna be there for 3 weeks. And staying in LA for 5 days. Will be going to Disneyland too. I think i’m going to take the change to go to Savi’s workshop. Even though it’s expensive, i think it’ll be the only change i’ll ever have.
The lightsaber build does not include the price of admission to Disneyland or Hollywood Studios in Disney World. Sense I made this video prices have gone up sense then. It is now $219.99 at Disneyland and $249.99 ant Disneys Hollywood Studio’s in Florida. It includes your choice of one of the four factions and a carrying case (if they have the cases in stock).
Is your TH-cam name based on Campbell, CA? If so, that’s awesome, because I just moved there earlier this year and happened upon this video by chance! I’m a big Star Wars fan, and my wife and I are going to Disneyland in December, where I plan on building my own lightsaber!
It’s based on our families last name. Haha. Although we used to live in California and we drove through Campbell a lot! Beautiful area! You’ll love the lightsaber building experience! Tons of fun!
Yes the blade is removable!! They do come with a carrying case. Although some times they are out of stock. We were able to get all our lightsabers on the plane as a personal item. what was your experience booking? how in advance do you need to reserve your spot to build a lightsaber? is it something that can be done same day or do you need to reserve a spot a couple weeks in advance?
You need to book this as soon as possible. I booked mine 60 days in advance. If not then do it as soon as you know you you want to. You might get lucky and find some a couple weeks in advance but it is pretty rare to find any the day of. This is also contingent on the time of year you go and how busy the parks are the days you plan on visiting. This is why you should book the 60 days in advance.
i feel like you're paying more for the experience than the saber itself, it is SUPER expensive, i think the cost for the saber should be around $80 for the materials but you're paying for the exclusivity
For the cost of them I wouldn't use them as a duel saber. They're not prone to breaking but excessive for and your $200 saber is now dead. I'd recommend picking up one that is more made for it. for campbell chronicles, people have begun basically fencing with lightsabers, I believe your family is dueling with them I just wouldn't put them full grown person force against another one.
