    Its sad that the ones who died the happiest in this series are the two mass murdering psychopaths.

      @@mohamedelhediissa289 l hear nasuverse has a reincarnation type of deal. When a person dies they return to the root and are remade (sort of) then go back to the world and are reborn into a new individual. I don't know how to properly explain but something like this happens at death unless you get the Shiki Tohno/Ryougi, heroic spirit, counter guardian, erased from existence and or immortality treatment.

      I wouldn't say it bored me to tears, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much my first time. It's a show that literally gets better with every rewatch for me due to it's character depth, themes and emotional storytelling. That, and it's also filled with epic moments and that never gets old.

      +Aleczandxr It's something I've noticed with myself lately. Sometimes when I watch an anime, first time around it's boring. Years later I try watching it, then I love it, like Bakemonogatari. I think it may have to do with not knowing what you're getting into 1st time around vs fully knowing what you're getting into 2nd time around, and being mentally prepared for that

      That's what makes the ending so powerful. Kiritsugu always believed that being a hero meant that everyone can be saved. That's not the case. It's the tragic truth of life: Nothing is won without sacrifice. Everytime Kiritsugu tried to save someone, some else had to die. This is the give and take of life. It's incredibly painful to accept this truth. This show does an amazing job of illustrating his fall from grace. Awesome show!

    Oh, that was something pleasant to watch.
    It's sad how the anime community gives such little attention to such an important and splendid anime.
    That being said, I am glad you made a 3 part analysis on Fate/Zero as very few people have analysed the show on youtube, Digibro has an analysis for Fate/Zero but I felt that was not thorough enough.
    And a show such as Fate/Zero where you can read a lot between the lines/scenes, it asks for a thorough analysis of it.
    I like how you added scenes of both Japanese dub and English dub.
    My favorite being the English dub, I am saddened when it isn't given any love despite being one of the best dubs that I've heard.

    • @Thalanox
      @Thalanox 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm pretty sure Digibro mentioned in a video about the Fate series (called something like "the power of not knowing shit") that he never actually read the source material. That makes any opinions he does have very unreliable and suspect.
      You've gotta read Fate/Stay Night (the visual novel), THEN read the Fate Zero prequel. The prequel is to be read by someone who already knows the gist of what happens in the 5th war, so that you can look forward to seeing the events in the 4th that had the outcomes that the 5th war dealt with.
      The anime is good, but it's a very surface level shallow adaptation of a textual medium. Think of it like making a movie that's based on a book. The book version is always going to be better 999 times out of a thousand, and the movie version can only be better when it's able to find it's own identity that only shares surface similarities to the book.

      sauron saruman I would venture to guess he doesn't have 80+ hours to read it like some people (I did lol), but I don't blame him. After all, the animes are supposed to be stand alone and you can understand the beauty of it regardless. I'm not the biggest fan of digibro, I only really like his analysis works, but saying that his taste is the worst because you don't agree with it doesn't help your argument. Also, K-ON is not my favourite anime, but it's in my opinion one of the best slice of life anime ever created, you would know that if you actually watch the show. I'm not saying you have to agree but have an open mind.

  • @flockinify
    @flockinify 8 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    Well that was a review and a half, nice work.
    Just throwing my thoughts on the themes. You say Zero has so many themes you couldn't begin to describe them all, which I agree, but if I were to nail it down to one central theme that sums up the whole show (and by extent the franchise) it would be “the dangers of relying on end results of ideals”. Throughout the whole show, characters expect that following their ideals would bring them what they desire: world peace for Kiritsugu, her country's salvation for Saber, honourable battle for Lancer, Sakura's freedom and Aoi's love for Kariya etc. But the world doesn't always hand out realizations of ideals just for following them, so they're crushed at the end. On the other hand, those who are satisfied simply following their ideals will get a happy ending regardless of the results, Rider especially given how he was a massive fuckup with his empire, never was able to reincarnate, see the sea, or save Saber from her ideals. He didn't mind, which is why he won the debate against Saber, not because of better Kingship but because of conviction of his decisions.
    The most powerful scene, or two scenes, for me was the contrast between after Kiritsugu killed his mother and after Kiritsugu caused the fire. He despaired after shooting the plane down, but was able to stand strong afterwards because he accomplished his goals in preventing possible catastrophe. The same didn't happen at the end of the war, he wasn't able to achieve world peace after all that bloodshed and burned up a town on top of it. It wasn't even the fault of his ideals, but it didn't matter, he failed and was broken for it. What saved him was being able to save one person, just one, out of everyone he killed, because he didn't have to murder or sacrifice anyone to do it, for the first, and last time in his life, he was a hero he could be proud of. That was enough for him. It was a brilliant contradictory scene, Kiritsugu, the saviour, is saved from being a broken mess and Shirou, the one being saved, is left a broken mess.
    It's supposed to tie back into the main Fate/Stay Night story. UBW perspective alone, Archer was also blindly following his ideals and expecting it to work, but eventually grew into a cynical nihilist who wanted to kill himself after the world beat the fact that you can't save everyone into his head. By contrast, the two climaxes of UBW involved Shirou acknowledging his ideals were impossible and being satisfied just with chasing it. The point of the sword fights were not to be flashy but to be served as metaphors for the themes, well, they were *supposed to* had Ufotable not butchered the scenes to death. It wasn't possible to work to being with, you can't take Anime-Shirou seriously without scenes like this: th-cam.com/video/Kb4FOlpfLNk/w-d-xo.htmlh12m55s.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks for watching, hopefully you enjoyed.
      And I totally see where you're coming from and agree. That is definitely a very prominent theme. A sort of blind faith in hoping against hope that your ideals are sound and will carry you to a perfect result may work in some fiction, but it doesn't tend to work in the real world and it definitely doesn't work in Fate/Zero. Great point.
      And regarding your points about UBW - I totally agree that there is some totally complex and well-written character exploration in the original visual novels, but I'm guessing (since I haven't read them) that a lot of that is based on introspection and being inside Shirou's head throughout the VN. The anime doesn't do that, and Ufotable (IMO) don't properly tell us what Shirou is all about, so he comes off as sort of a stubborn bonehead, with not much to him. It's a shame, because I feel like the shallow flashy sword fights from the UBW anime probably have so much more to them in the VN, but we weren't able to see it. Having seen the link you posted too, I'm sure that's the case.

    • @flockinify
      @flockinify 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aleczandxr Definitely give the VN a read, if you can handle the time sink that is, one thing Zero does have over FSN is storytelling efficiency. You'll see just how much Shirou requires being in the VN medium to function, and how minimalistic the actual sword fighting of the climaxes are. You say how different Kirei and Kiritsugu are on the inside despite seeming so similar on the outside? It's the exact reverse with Kirei and Shirou.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      For sure, I've been meaning to for a while. I've read up a bit on the proper Kiritsugu/Shirou character dynamic and it's definitely really interesting, too bad that doesn't translate well across mediums.

    • @jimbob1862
      @jimbob1862 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A quick thing to point out, Archer never wanted to kill himself. He even states himself he was satisified with his life and blamed nobody when he was executed. it was only afterwards after innumerable battles as a Counter Guardian he believed it to just be utterly useless and he became broken.
      As for the UFOTable butchering scenes, let's not forget how they butchered Shirou v Gil. Making Shirou flip around like Spiderman and somehow making him look OP enough that anime only watchers complained he got asspull powers and also making him look so weak they were saying he died by an asspull by making it look like Gil won was a big feat to pull off lol.

One of the main reasons I watch your videos is because you frequently put the majority of the scattered thoughts I had during my watch into a more cohesive, tighter analysis, but this time those last few minutes where you talk about what you think the main message of the series is made me realize that said message had gone completely over my head and I really, really appreciate you making me notice that because the whole "Set yourself big goals but be realistic, be prepared for failure because that's what allows you to grow" thing is exactly the type of ideology I try to live by, and hearing that made me appreciate the anime a whole lot more than I already did.
      And one last thing, it's so cool to me that you replied so quickly to a random comment on your literal first video, I noticed you did the same for other comments from just a few months ago. It's for that and many other things that you've become one of my favorite TH-camrs :)

    I'd like to respond to your statement regarding UBW and Shirou at 4:50. (At least, I assume you're talking about Shirou since he's on screen during this statement)
    After having watched your Re: Zero video and your Hunter X Hunter video where you complimented Subaru and Gon for having unique logical and emotional flaws, flaws that both contrast and compliment the setting of the shows they're in, flaws that make them tragic, relatable and sympathetic, it's weird to see you throw some shade at UBW and hinting that Shirou is unlikable due to his flawed sense of morality.
    I absolutely love UBW on an emotional level, more so than /Zero, because of the tragic contrast between Shirou and Archer. Episodes 19, 20, and 21 of that show is my favorite stretch of animated storytelling of all time. Those three episodes are my Old Yeller. How can you watch the scene where Shirou pulls Caliburn from the stone as his hand sets on fire, all while the song "Last Stardust" plays, and not cry? The whole show built up to that moment and when it crescendos into that scene, it's pure brilliance. A brilliant metaphor to represent the ideology of a tragically flawed hero who, even if you don't like him, surely you cannot help but feel sorry for.

      This was my first video. My opinions on characters have developed since then. I disagree with quite a few of my older viewpoints, it's totally normal.
      I think Shirou is a great protagonist but I also think that the UBW anime did a poor job with presenting him and what he was actually all about. I feel like more introspection was needed. Maybe if I had the context from the VN I would've cared more about that fight in UBW but as it stands I found it pretty standard when I watched it.

      To be fair, he hinted a Shirou coming across as unlikable due to a failure on the show's part when it came to explaining his morality to the viewer. In other words, it wasn't that his morality made him unlikable, but that the show's failure to explain his morality made him unlikable.

      @@Aleczandxr I want to present my view on ubw. I think Emiya Shirou is one of the unique presentation of a hero. His actions never lead a perfect result. He want to save everyone but his effort to save someone always lead a destruction for others. He want to truly understand the concept of hero in humanity and a way where he can really able to save everyone. It actually ask the question about these heroes that is it really what they do is right for everyone. How it is actually work? You can say that he ask the question that what make someone right.
      Shirou is very twisted character and you can even call him the embodiment of every hypocrisies of any superheroes. he is very different to a normal human being. Many normal humans also have this very optimistic dream. Normal humans have this dream but they have their own sense of justice. But shirou is very different. he has a ideal but he didn' have any sense of good or evil or any form of justice. he only try to save others for satisfying his need of pleasure or the feeling of alive. he didn' even know the true reason of his dream. He also said this in Unlimited Blade Works route.
      [I swore so as a child.
      To fulfill the dream of the man I admired most.
      …But to be honest, I'm still wondering…
      If my idea is the right one.
      Where my idea comes from.
      What I can do even despite me being just an amateur.
      How to make the dream of making everybody happy, which Kiritsugu always talked about, come true.]
      his every ideal is copied. he copied everything from Kiritsugu. Even his morality is also copied from his father. he mindlessly follow it and trying to save others without thinking because he just want to feel that smile again which is present in Kiritsugu's face. he even also want a enemy or some 'true evil' to defeat as a superhero to feel that feeling of pleasure. kirei also point out which shirou wanted to prove wrong.
      [Rejoice, boy. Your wish will finally come true."
      The priest says, as if declaring an oracle.
      Those words are...
      Aren't those the true feelings I haven't yet realized
      "What are you saying all of a sudden?"
      "You should know. Your wish will not come true unless there is a clear evil. Even if it is not something you approve of, a superhero requires a villain to defeat."
      "!"
      I feel like everything has turned black.
      The priest said it.
      The greatest wish and the ugliest wish I have are the same.
      …Yes, the desire to protect something…
      …Is, at the same time, none other than the wish for something to violate it
      " Y-You"
      But there's no way I'd wish for something like that.
      I don't remember a moment when I've wished for that.
      Such an insecure wish…
      …Just means the target ideals are inconsistent.
      But the priest says as if to pierce my heart, "Good thing you have an enemy now."
      "No, you do not have to gloss over it. Your worries are normal for a human being."
      The priest smiles.
      "!"
      I shake off the priest's words and walk to the door.
      ]
      He later also said that he think he did actually want a enemy in fate route. that's why he actually want to change saber as a more "human" for her sake but never understand his own hypocrisy. that is the reason why fate route is route which explains Shirou ideals very well. Shirou forces his copied morality and fake love of human towards everyone without understanding their problems. he has very limited emotion and he can't understand the emotion of others. But he also never understand that he also has his own "true self" of his own but he never understand his true self in fate route. We also understand that his love toward human is not fake but it is the characteristics of his true self. it is also said by Kirei in heaven's feel route
      [I see. So that means you will not follow Kiritsugu's path."
      He talks as if he's disinterested.
      The priest regards me with a bored expression, as if disappointed.
      "Father's path…?"
      "That's right. Your father loved humans.
      Higher, wider, farther. He loved humans as they go over their limits without end. That is why he turned himself into the definite evil.
      That man would have killed Matou Sakura. He threw away his human emotions for the sake of justice."
      "…Is that any different from you?
      Casting away one person's happiness for the sake of justice, for many people's happiness."
      "No. What you people call happiness did not bring me joy."
      "Huh…?"
      That's not a reply.
      No, more than that…
      He's not even looking at me.
      "Right, we were different.
      He threw away what he had, but I had nothing to throw away.
      The result was the same, but the process was completely different.
      His existence was too unpleasant. His agony was truly unpleasant.
      If he went to such lengths to cast it away, he should never have had it in the first place. But still he agonized over his decision, trying to pick it back up after he threw it away. As if saying that is the correct way for humans to live."
      "The difference was crucial. Yes. If I cannot obtain anything, why was I born into this world?"
      The priest' words are not directed at anyone.
      ...But they contain anger.
      They contain emotion, which i thought this man didn't have.
      "…Hah. Come to think of it, there is no way you can succeed Kiritsugu. He did what was necessary by throwing things away, but you insist on having it both ways.
      We are similar, you and I.
      You died once and broke down when you were resurrected. It is posteriori, but you are like me, a defect from birth."

      "What…? What part of me is broken?"
      "You just do not realize it.
      You have no concept of self. So I did not think you would concern yourself with a single person. No, rather"
      You are not concerned about many,
      but concerned about all as if they were only one.]
      In ubw he started to saw the hypocrisy of his own ideals with help of Archer and Rin and his experiences in ubw route. he understand that his ideal is always false. he has not any sense of justice and even his self. he also understand the inconsistencies of ideal of not just his own but also the ideals of others heroes. others heroes only force their ideals on the basis of their own ideals. He understand that he can't save everyone by forcing his ideal on someone. his way of saving only destroy anyone for others and only lead despair. But this is the route where he understands the true meaning of his ideal and his true self. he actually loved humans but very differently to his father. he loved the human emotions, love, compassion, shared human nature and values. He thinks that good and bad are situational. There are right and wrongs and those who didn't fear to this always lead a destruction. he want to become superhero to spread this shared nature and love of human toward each other into everywhere to form a ideal "human society" where everyone understand other's feelings and also think about the gain and loss of others as well as themselves without any prejudice and also create justice in this world. Shirou want to create a world filled with 'Swords'. swords represent Shirou's selflessness and his live for others. he want to create a ordered world where people also punishes those are bad or wrong in that situation. To destroy discimination, he want to first create a selfless world by eradicating prejudice and spreading the human nature. But it is still impossible to satisfy everyone. it still lead nowhere but it is able to create a better world. that's why he said
      ["I have created a thousand blades .
      Unaware of loss
      Nor aware of gain"]
      And
      [“Everything is here, and nothing is here.
      That is why this is called Unlimited Blade Works.
      This is the only definite answer obtained by the one who lived as a sword all his life.”]
      The reason why Archer hate Shirou or himself. Because he never has his own values and way of justice. He just follows it for pleasure. That is the biggest reason why Archer fall into despair in the end and only end as a puppet or scapegoat for human's love and hatred both.
      The thing is when their swords collide. He get the memories of Archer. He experienced this memory of atrocities very similarly to the curse of Angra Mainyu but this time he understands the meaning and also importance of those curses. Shirou's resolution is that he tries to save everyone. He will create a situation through which he can save everyone even it is difficult not like Kerry or Archer. They don't try to save everyone or tries to find a way through which he can resolve those disputes. They just try to find a best way to save more people. But he will not regret if he can't save someone like Archer or Kerry which ultimately lead them to their beliefs.

      @@Aleczandxr Further from my previous comment,
      Shirou's resolution in the end of ubw is definitely far more complicated and twisted than kiritsugu's resolution. I will not call it superior but it is definitely unuque. A world can only be changed when it's people tried to change it. And for this people should know about what is humanity and how it works. They should understand the shared nature between humans. Their love, Their tendency to care each other, compassion, emotions, their tendency to create mutual bonds, learn from their mistakes, accept their sins and use these all these things collectively for the benefits of others. Shirou love human. This is his ‘true self’ i.e he understands in the end of ubw and throw his ‘fake self’ which only try to save for his own pleasure. He already gained the answer that he can't save everyone. But now he know that it is never possible. But humans can change it. He want to create this world by influencing through his action. He influence others to become like him who thinks about other's benefit more than his own. And lead people to a ordered world which is filled with swords like him and that can possibly lead a utopia. He act as a pinnacle of the human beings selflessness to influence other to become like him and they can collectively influence world and their people to have mire faith in selfless act and other well being. They think about themselves as well as others benefits without prejudice and create a order which try to satisfy everyone but also teach society the fear of what is right and wrong in different situations. (Well this ordered world theory is given by archer but Shirou combine this dream with his own to create a better ideal. He learn from Archer). He will take every type of suffering and throw evrything for it to inspire other about this suffering. so people would also understand the suffering of others and started to create 'Heroes'. The thing is he considered living like this is beautiful. He considered enduring the suffering of others is very beautiful. In short he want to turn himself into a person who take every pain and suffering from others onto him and not giving those pain to others, to inspire others to be like him and lead a better world. he loves human so much that he loves taking pain, suffering and consequences of hypocrisies of every selfish human dreams from others to make them happy and to show human a better path for living as a 'real' human and also show that what human can do. So that no one would suffer from these selfish hypocisies. To teach other that pursue these selfish dreams by trying to eradicating these hypocrisies. He will not become a person like archer in which everyone force their mistakes to show their goodness but he will become a idol for others to inspire them to become like him and love others. He also accept hatred and sins of humanity and show the beauty of these ugliness and show how to use it improve humans as whole and use it to spread love and compassion towards each other even more. Shirou is a void who has not any values and sense of justice. He interpreted his existence is possible because of humans and for humans. That's why he take the decision to hold his own sense of selflessness and dream to guide others human's and their individuals ideals to interpret other's ideals as well to understand humanity as whole better. He want to guide or change human to believing this way of living by the influence of his actions, his guidance and beauty of this dream. He have not any ideals but he want to guide every human's ideals in right path by understanding every ideals and even the hate and love both towards his own ideals to convert his ideal into more better one.

    • @HerMi.T
      @HerMi.T 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aleczandxr Further from my previous two comments, Still he has not any solid ideal even in the end. He still doesn't know how to protect this world. And yeah he fights for his ideal. But People are wrong that he didn't love humanity. This is the thing which attracted him not kiritsugu's smile. It is the thing which forces him try to define everyone and try to make them happy. This is the true reason behind his ideal which he understands in end. He also said in the fight with Archer that at first it is admiration but it is actually the try to save undone this hell and destroy his hollowness by essence of humanity.
      it is true that he make path to follow and try to really save everyone without discarding anyone. But the point is he will never get true success in his path. But this journey is representation of his true self and this self itself is enough for his success because it creates hope for ideal world and this hope is enough for human beings to try endlessly to reach the horizon of humankind. You would find that his resolution is interesting to listen but actually is it even possible in reality? Because the reality of world is quite nihilistic. The end of world is inevitable. People cannot save everyone and they can't even save themselves in the end. Objectively, there is no god and bad also. And even a good ideal for some people can be considered as evil for others. It means human should live their even it needs to sacrifice other and they don't accept anything as a result. They shouldn't love or hate others. But their is a problem. Even though it is logically true but is it true that there no evil or good. Actually Shirou's realisation in the end is definitely a try to change this world. But the reality is that his realisation actually change himself in the end. His way of living life is optimistic or more correctly optimistic nihilism. He know that even his way of saving has huge chance of failure. It is also possible that he could also be ended as evil for others. But his dream of hope is itself enough to elevate himself as a human to change this world. Just like you said good and evil can't be destroyed because it creates balance in the world. But just the hope of true equality and justice. The hope of guiding humans in their respective path is itself beautiful. This beauty can elevate every human to live his life in this world and try to find his own meaning in this world and way of living. So this hope, try if ideal world and enough knowledge of consequences really help every human to actually save themselves and world. One statement perfectly fit in his situation i.e
      “I don't know if it was correct or not.
      Nobody will be able to determine that.
      The beautiful things are ugly and ugly things are beautiful.
      There is nothing disgusting, once you look at it objectively.
      So why is there such a deviation in world?
      Sophistry, falsehood, trickery and vanity.”
      It is of course shirou's own statement. He question this exact question when he get the memory of Archer and asked himself that why he felt this deviation if he thinks good and bad is actually not existed. Why he regretted for this? And why he even follows it in the end?
      It can also be explained with Angra Mainyu ending in hollow ataraxia where because of shirou's influence, he remembers his resolution as human after prayed as demon. He understands that humans are ugly but this also make them beautiful because they can find beauty even in ugliness of the world. He understands this feature of human being make world as a whole much more beautiful. The hope of creating a world where no one can be harmed is a beautiful thought and this things actually is the reason which drives human to live their life and create curiosity to understand themselves much more better to improve themselves which is actually impossible. In the end, this optimistic view actually make this world much more better place. Everyone has different way to reach the true happiness according to them but objectives are always same for every human being. That's why effort to make this world better is not fruitless and actually this effort to change many lives. Atleast this path can create a world without meaningless bloodshed. I mean if they had a hope like this and believe like this. They atleast try to achieve their goal in better way. It definitely didn't change the factor of sacrifices but it is much more manageable. And this hope can create a beautiful world where people atleast try to understand each other. In the end, we have to sacrifice someone. But this type of hope,desire and satisfaction with only the journey of this ideal is enough to create caring and love nature toward each other. We would sacrifice someone but we cherish for their sacrifice and try to save others because of it. In this world atleast, everything which is important as a human being to elevate in higher heights with more comfort in our life as whole is only possible because of this nature to care each other and co-operation along with our own selfishness. That's why as a human we should spread this motto of cooperation and better world by destroying hate in world to live a successful life.
      That's what I want to say that hope is the thing which is the reason why human is able to strive in this world. Hope elevate us from a mere animals. Sacrifices are needed to save others. You had to sacrifice someone to save others. We can't change it but we can atleast try to save everyone. We have to spread humanity, save others and guide others to have hope to create a paradise but also accept sacrifices. Without humanity no one can create a better world. I mean without understanding others and without changing everyone. You can't create a better world. Changing in a right path to someone can't be succeeded. Because nothing is right in this world. Something is right for someone are not right for others. But we can try or hope to change world with humanity, saving others or guiding others go understand the shared emotion or nature of every human or in this case every beings. Everyone has different way to reach their path and they are conflicting also. But this hope or try of better world can find path through these all conflicting ideals but it always needed humanity. But in the end, we can't save everyone but we can enjoy this world. We can even enjoy or find beauty even ugliness of humanity. He becomes one of the best hero in ubw route which didn't consider anyone evil and know how it is a difficult to consider someone true sinner. He will guide them in their own terms but also teach them the importance of humanity. So that they never forget their own humanity because he will not kill them but this world will definitely kill them. True paradise is only existed in infinity. But your effort to reach infinity can create a change. You never able to reach infinity but you definitely able to reach somewhere with help of your humanity. You definitely able to create a change which definitely create a better world but that world also create despair again in the long term. It is the true cycle of humanity and we had to follow it. That's why Emiya Shirou decided to fight for eternity because he understands the cycle of hope and despair or wishes and curses. He decided to accept both of them and find beauty in both of them. So that he can guide humans with light of hope in despair because both hope and despair is essential in human life. They will solve their mistakes with them. They will perfected themselves with it where they started to understand each other's despair and hope. So that they can create a better world where they again started to stumble but this cycle itself is the source of life and happiness for them. Did you remember madoka magica anime written by gen urobouchi? The main core of this show is cycle of despair and hope. Emiya Shirou understand this cycle and accepted. It find this cycle itself is beautiful. Gen take a more optimistic path in madoka magica where main character was able to manipulate the fabric of time. But Shirou take the more realistic approach and accepted every despair as his own main identity. It uses despair as guidance for humanity. Because of despair. They perfected their own mistake and create hope and this hope again created a despair. But this process of understanding our own mistakes is itself is satisfying and even beautiful just like this world.
      Note:- humanity means our tendency to make a community or save or understand each other. I call it humanity because human are different to animals because of these features. And human are existed because of these features. They created their own loved ones or community or country because of these features.

    Please avoid any spin off titles (especially the fate extra Anime) with exemption to the light novels and Fate/Apocrypha.
    a lesser recommendation would also be the movie fate/kaleid liner prisma illya oath under snow (But thats thats only if you wanna risk being invested in 4 seasons of cringy worth of magical girl nonsense)
    Light novels in order or recommendation:
    Fate/Prototype
    Fate/Prototype:fragments of the silver sky
    Fate/Strange Fake
    I also highly recommend the garden of sinners series which there will be a camio in Fate/stay night Movie: Heaven's Feel - III
    of a certain protagonist
    And if you want even more try out the fate/grand order mobile game
    (theres only an American, Korean and Japanese version Europeans be fucked)
    I love all of the fate series, but its a shame there isn't really a good starting of point other then the vn.
    Some say that fate/zero is that but it was never to my understanding intended as such.

      @@jouheikisaragi6075 Yeah but Stay night and UBW spoils Fate/Zero
      In Stay Night/UBW its flat out stated in the first few episodes that the Grail is corrupted, kiritsugu ordered Saber to destroy it, and that Kirei is a bad guy.
      In Zero you see the origin of each Master and their families, Kirei is more nuanced and him becoming evil surprises you, Kiritsugus ideals aren't apparent and him turning out to wanting to be a hero despite his methods is shocking, and everything is a mystery including the grail... to the point that finding out the grail is corrupted makes it all the more tragic and heroic when Kiritsugu rejects it and orders Saber to destroy it.
      Ufotable made it so that newcomers should watch Zero First, then UBW, then the Heavens feel Movie.
      The only thing Zero spoils is that Sakura had a twisted childhood.
      But Stay night spoils Zero in that the grail caused the Fire, is corrupted, that Kiritsugu is a hero and that Kirei is the Villain, that Gilgamesh teams up with Kirei, that Kiritsugu "betrays" Saber, and that the survivors at the end are Gilgamesh/Kirei and Saber/Kiritsugu.

      @@Binks129 that's the point. Zero is meant to be a tragedy that you KNOW how it will end but you don't know how it ended like that. Watching Zero after Stay Night(preferably playing it) gives a different tragedy style. The "I can't do anything to save anyone from fucking themselves" hopelessness. Zero becomes darker because you know how it ends, but not why.

    I would actually argue the first fight actually sets up SIX Servants. In addition to the things you mentioned, there's also the aftermath where Caster confuses Saber for Fate/Apocrypha's Ruler, which serves to pretty much be the rest of his character from that point onwards. Not to mention it leads directly into the most badass moment in the Fate franchise - EXCALIBUR!

    Now, with Kiritsugu you are just ignoring for sake of convenience, all of his actions were with the end goal of getting the grail, savage or not"
    This is a comment that my friend had about on of the points that you make in your video, while screen sharing in skype (Thought it would be interesting to see an analysis of Fate/Zero).

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course the grail is Saber's primary goal. My comment on Saber was about her lack of efficiency in fighting the other servants. She wasn't ruthless (for example, didn't kill Lancer or something) because it wasn't in her nature, because she was injured, and because she was also preoccupied with Caster. I was just defending that aspect of the show against people who don't understand why it wasn't a bloodbath from the beginning.
      I'm not really sure what the point about Kiritsugu is. I never said that he didn't want the grail; in fact, I reinforced that his existence was basically dependent on getting the grail and saving the world in part 2.
      I think your friend has misunderstood me. Saber and Kiritsugu were both 100% in it for the grail and I would never dispute that.

      On that note, he said this about Kariya in part 2
      "actually if you go deeper you actually find out that he kinda had it coming...
      like he abandoned the Matoi family because he knew some shady shit was going around and did nothing to change it even tho he was technically going to be the next family head, even when Sakura was adopted
      only really decided to be proactive when everything was already fucked

    "Appealing to the masses can actually hurt a show, by making it good across a number of fronts without being great at anything." This is exactly how I feel about Zero. Obviously you think the opposite. If I wasn't a Fate fan, this anime would be meh at best. The fights are not that good or exciting, they are flashy. Probably the worst of the Fate adaptations and while there is tragedy, it feels short to what I find in FSN's VN. I'm not trying to badmouth Zero, objectively it's great but in the end it's not for me. It hardly appeals to me. At best Kirei's development is what I like the most, but that's because the VN made me like him in the first place, I was invested in him before entering Zero.

      *Probably the worst of the Fate adaptations*
      I can understand liking the other adaptations better, but.. really..? Both of the other adaptations had many problems and F/Z's anime did very well in translating the story across mediums. I can understand liking one better than the other for various reasons but as an adaptation, UBW was far worse.
      *it feels short to what I find in FSN's VN.*
      Comparing across mediums is never very fair. A VN will almost always present a more extensive story than an anime for obvious reasons.

    • @Shaifs
      @Shaifs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as the fights go, yes. Zero has the worst battles of the anime series. Yes the other adaptations have a lot of problems but I feel they shine brighter when they do decide to shine. I'm not really a fan of Ufobutcher. They tell the story well, better and with very few glaring issues but it's boring studio. When it comes to delivering over the top, emotional scenes, they fall short. They did their best job with KnK but with the Fate series, Zero is their best run and a lot of that might have to do with Zero's LN being crap. Zero is good but I feel their is no greatness. The most emotional impact they had given me is an extreme dislike for 25% of the main cast and it's not one of those "love to hate" moments and that has nothing to do with the anime, it's what the LN set up so Ufobutcher couldn't do much about. At least the anime left out much of the horrible parts of Kerry's character.

    The one single issue I had with Zero, though I don’t think this was Urobuchi’s fault, was Gilgamesh.
    Don’t misunderstand; I liked Gilgamesh in Zero. But the original Fate anime presented this idea that he was corrupted by the Grail. I thought that was such an interesting idea: the Ur-Hero, the origin of of the ideal, being made warped and twisted by the Grail. And now I could see what he was like before that corruption.
    ... Only to find out he was pretty much always an asshole and so much of an OP -lord that Sephiroth would be going “Dude? Chillax.”

    • @basilofgoodwishes4138
      @basilofgoodwishes4138 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Adorni Except that the Original never implied it, its stated by Nasu that he wasn't corrupted by the grail, rather he was angry that Humanity had become overpopulated.

    • @Adorni
      @Adorni 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Which is fair, as I haven't played the visual novel myself. However, was that something Nasu said later, or did Gilgamesh or Kotomine themselves explain as such?
      I like the idea of Gilgamesh being the "ultimate Servant" and the final bad guy, so to speak. And I don't have a problem with his percieved power level. But when I read the wiki it became rapidly apparent that he seems to suffer from what I call "Sephiroth Syndrome."
      There's a lot of talk out of Square these days that Sephiroth is so utterly overpowered that he could handily kick the ass of anyone and everyone in the Final Fantasy "universe" with one hand tied behind his back. The only reason he doesn't is because he "underestimates" his opponents. Which is, frankly, stupid. It's something that one could buy the first time, but in the current run of things, Sephiroth has been beaten by the same guy 3 times. If he's really so awesome, then he should stop fooling around and actually do the deed properly. A careful analysis of the original game, however, paints the idea that Sephiroth, while powerful, was actually just a puppet on a string. First for Hojo and Shinra, and then later for Jenovah. Strong though he was, he was ultimately lacking in will and drive. He had no dream or desire of his own. That's the point of his character, and the ultimate synonym for Cloud who suffered from a similar dilemma. Ultimately, Cloud sorted himself out, and Sephiroth didn't, still dancing to the tune of someone else. Arguably the most powerful being in the world, but still behold to someone else's desires.
      But Sephiroth proved to be popular, both with the fans, and with the higher-ups at Square. So suddenly he got more powerful, and more awesome. The idea that he was actually Jenovah's meat-puppet? Nah, bro, he totally mind-dominated her and got all her powers. He got beaten by Cloud and company? Well that's just because he wasn't fighting seriously. The creators are afraid to actually make their character flawed. And Gilgamesh kind of suffers from a similar sort of thing. The idea that the "King of Heroes" could encounter something beyond him, like a Grail that actually twists and distorts your character into a perversion of itself? Nah. Didn't even phase him. In fact, it made him MORE powerful because now he has a physical body, so he doesn't even need a Master. Not that he needed one to begin with, because his magic stat is SO high that he could kill his Master and just do whatever the heck he wanted, if he felt like it. His swords are the best, his strength is the best, his defense- both magical and physical, are the best and _well_ beyond any other servant, obviously. But what's that? Shirou, a lowbie fart who doesn't even have a proper magic circuit, let alone not even being a Servant, has to beat him because of the story? Well, obviously it's because Gilgamesh wasn't taking the fight seriously. Otherwise he'd have crushed Shirou in a millisecond.
      *Deep breath*. I apologize for the long rant. And like I said, I haven't read the original visual novel myself, so I don't know what the "deal" with Gilgamesh is, there. And I do like the guy, but it just feels like he was suddenly made ludicrously overpowered, even beyond the degree he already was, because Nasu and the fans liked him. And that's something that's often detrimental to a character, I think.

      For me the whole of Fate/Zero felt like I was just invited to take on a role similar to Gilgamesh's and watch things unfold from a third party perspective. Whereas the Visual novel put you inside the head of Shirou almost from beginning to end. You're not an observer, but a player, with stakes.

      I don't entirely disagree and I've said something similar about Fate/Zero in my Gilgamesh video and Rider/Waver videos iirc, but I fail to see the problem. They're two different styles of storytelling and if one is invested in the story, there's no "better" style and stakes are present for both.

      except saber, but she's just an exception, r-r-r-right?
      seriously though, EA is overrated. Blast-type noble phantasms can counter it, and it doesn't have the versatility of a conceptual weapon (gilgamesh would just die if he fought avenger. Which ironically, he does in the first few minutes of heaven's feel). Bazette would also be able to kill him instantly if he wasn't wearing his armor, or she was able to avoid any of his noble phantasms 3 times. And she's not even a heroic spirit.
      its just a big fuck-you gun. gilgamesh himself is just a decently statted character with a simple but powerful set of weapons with simple applications- shoot, bind and shoot.

    ur welcome

    • @namonaite
      @namonaite 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all, thats not how it should be experienced,
      the fate series should be experienced in the same order as the routes in the original visual novel with fate zero at the end, however due to the fist route being the shortest and least entertaining it was never really adapted,
      and studio deen made a frankenstein monster mixing elements of all the routes where as its not that great and feels out of place.
      But it would be;
      Fate/stay night (studio deen 2006)
      Fate/stay night unlimited bladeworks
      Fate/stay night Movie: Heaven's Feel - I. Presage Flower (2017)
      Fate/stay night Movie: Heaven's Feel - II. Lost Butterfly (2018)
      Fate/stay night Movie: Heaven's Feel - III (possible release early 2019)
      Fate/zero
      spin offs(honestly i would just recommend to avoid these), fate apocrypha adds very little to the series other then the what if the 3rd grail war went differently and was a mess an adaption by a1pictures (not UFOTABLE)
      The fate grand order anime is to be experienced in junction with the mobile game.
      Fate/extra is horrible and the only reason to watch it is for true saber aka UMU bride.
      and the fate/kalied series is horrible with exceptions to the movie and the last season.
      And the light novles are a high recommendation and far on another league especially
      fate/prototype
      fate/prototype fragments of the silver sky (which is to fate/prototype what fate/zero is to fate/stay night)
      Fate/strange fake (if you want more Gilgamesh in his true glory)(its also a pretty good manga)

    So a while ago a few friends and me watched through this series, I think only one of us had seen it before and he really enjoyed it, so I wanted to give it a chance, and in a way, that's why I'm watching these videos right now, because I actually didn't like the show. I ended up not liking any of the characters outside of Rider and Waver, and the tag team serial killers because everyone else seem stilted and steeped in such a melancholy that I found kind of like watching someone be depressed by choice, not by circumstance or by it being thrust upon them, that isn't to say the cause of their depression wasn't thrust upon them necessarily, but rather I just felt like they were their own worst enemy, who kept themselves sad at times.
    I don't think the anime was badly written, but I do think, that the themes that the story aren't new, and aren't necessarily trafficing new grounds or doing something that I haven't seen done elsewhere. I personally also have become kind of tired of the whole down and dreary dark tone that feels overwhelming in some media, so maybe that's part of it too. Now that I feel I've probably said all the problems or reasons I disliked this show, and why I probably wouldn't strongly recommend this to people who have tastes similar to me, I've gotta say it.
    The wine party episode is probably the best episode in this show's run, and the buildup to it, and the things that happen in that episode are probably why I'd call watching this show a net positive. Everything my friend had told me he liked this show for was put on display in that episode, and that was an episode that I feel really captured a lot of the magic in the whole backroom plotting and kind of chess game that the series protrays with the families and ideologies and everything coming to a clash.

    I haven't finished season 2 yet (currently on episode 2 of season 2) but season one was a bit lacklustre for me. Immediately the concept struck me as a bit stupid and thus it was hard to get into it. My problem with it was that it had all these insane concepts and both over-explained them and didn't explain them at all. They explained the what in massive info dumps that were poorly placed but very little of the how or why. I find it hard to take the narrative seriously when they talk about classes and special abilities which to me feel like pandering to a video game loving community. Saber's personality makes no sense to me. She just doesn't strike me as someone who would be willing to lead a large amount of people. I know this is explored later but it just makes her seem boring by comparison. I just feel like her character is really quite bland. I'm assuming more happens in season 2 but I haven't got there yet, my opinion may change. The fights were beyond stupid at first with each attack being telegraphed and explained in great detail. SHOW DON'T TELL. It's one of the main rules of visual storytelling that anime in particular seems to be horrible at. Iksander and Gilgamesh are interesting at least. I know that the motivations of the characters are intentionally muddy but it just makes it hard to follow at times. Why are these two teaming up? I have no idea this is supposed to be a death game is it not? and why are more masters allowed to enter? doesn't that defeat the entire point of the system! why can't more masters be continually entered until they win?? It just annoys me when rules are set up but aren't followed through.
    On the positive side I did greatly enjoy the scene with the 3 kings drinking wine. I was hoping that this would be Saber's queue to grow a personality but so far that hasn't happened. I'm still holding out hope though. This show would have worked a lot better if there was a period of truce after all the servants have been summoned where attacks are forbidden up until the grail war actually starts. Then they could interact and have the meaningful situations but actually have context to them not killing each-other that makes sense.
    Season 1 currently gets a 7/10 from me.
    Edit: Also that redhead girl is more annoying than waver. Her character is ridiculously inconsistent its almost laughable. You get the impression she's supposed to be evil but then they try and portray her sympathetically? then straight back to being evil It makes no sense.

      I agree. I did say that I would continue to enjoy your videos even if I disagree with them lol. It's not necessarily disagree with any of the points you made. I just personally feel like the characters were not handled in the best way. The themes of the show are very interesting but the writing is really poor in my eyes. I feel like it has the potential to be excellent, it has great ideas it just falls short on delivering on them. I don't want to sound arrogant but I feel like I could have written a better script for the show that would have made season 1 much more interesting. The reason why I think Saber's character is bland is because she always acts the same way regardless of the situation. Some would say that she has a strong moral code but to me that makes her robotic. I just want to see her get worked up in the things she believes to be right. It just seems like she doesn't really care half the time. She's trying to fill that few words badass role but it's just not interesting when it's been done a million times. The only character trait I can think of to describe her is "honourable" and that's not even really a character trait. I don't know it feels like her character is just really poorly written but people look past that because of her interesting backstory and character design.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheOnlyRoggol You're entirely misinterpreting what Saber is about IMO. She is definitely not trying to fill a quiet but badass role. But I don't think that you can fully analyze her and what she and her arc represent until you've seen the whole thing. She IS robotic - very mechanical, almost programmed in her actions and responses. But the reasons behind that, and how they develop and what they mean in the thematic context of the story, are why I love her. And that's entirely independent from what I think about her character design.

      I have just finished season two. It's far far superior to season 1 I will absolutely maintain that season 1 is a poorly written badly paced monstrosity but season 2 was better in pretty much every single way. The exposition was almost nonexistent. SABER GREW A PERSONALITY I WAS SO PROUD! It was dark and depressing and somewhat thought provoking and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Never got super sad about any of the characters dying because I was kinda expecting at least most of them to die from the very start. But overall I'd give fate zero a strong 8 to a light 9.
