- M4A3E2 JUMBO is a heavy tank in War Thunder. its known for its frontal armor and can be called the most protected vehicle at it's battle rating. What to do when you face it on battlefield? where to aim?

I remember one time I was playing the french version of this tank, and an enemy tank of the same type but american, we spent over 40 rounds shooting at each other, I shook my turret to signal a white peace / truce, and he agreed

Yeah, some heavy tanks have worst armor than meds. M6 best armor is his engine, frontal armor can't stop most of the shots.
Several years ago, like during the first year of ground vehicles, 2014- early 2015 heavy tanks actualy performed like heavy tanks, no heatfs nor sabot, no post war (except is4 ).
And before sheels prenetration adjustment, a tiger 1 was a mighty vehicle, is2 a very fearsome one.

That beast holds records in my battle history. Its a beast at its BR, even if it has low penetration, the front armor works up to 5.0/5.3. Totally amazing tank.

from my experience not in a jumbo, but fighting a jumbo, its absolute utter dogshit, its shells arent effective over 300 meters if you angle your tiger even by just a tiny bit, to the point of absurd and i wonder why the community praises it so often

when I was a noob I used only the most penetration shells :D and I was confused I cant kill anyone because it doesnt explode in the tank so much
yeah same I was using APCR until I was like level 40
I dont load shells with explosive mass in it, only APCR and other hard shells, except for Germany since they have the best shells for their rank and their explosive mass is actualy good compared to America, Britain, USSR and Japan, italy has some good shells
@@build2270 You do realize APCR is absolutely atrocious when dealing with angled or sloped armor and that it causes much less spalling right? Most of the time using APCR at all is a bad idea let alone exclusively.

Several times ive halted entire enemy advances in their tracks, covering my team's entire flank until they reinforce me. Amazing tank when used right.

Just a quick note: T 34-85s and IS-1s will slice right through your frontal plate even if angled at times
Happened to me many times at impossible angles because russian bias still exists in some forms

When I play both of my jumbos I bring 3 types of shells, the apcbc, apcr and smoke shells, the apcbc is mostly the shell that you use to send your targets back to the hanger, the apcr only comes in handy when I need to disable important modules such as gun barrels, transmissions and engines, and then there's the smoke shell that I mostly use to blind my enemies with instead of shooting it 10m ahead of me when they are glaring at me when I am in a bit of a pickle, I also use them to shot at hiding spots that fools my target into thinking that there is an easy prey hiding in that smoke repairing, giving me time to flank. That's about the tips that I can give to those fellow jumbo players that are new to the tank.

The comment around 8:30 mark is so true. I drive the Cobra King a lot for SL$ and fights with another heavy last a while. If you don’t have friendly support it is easy for you to get marked on the map and attract the hyenas and vultures to flank from sides and above. Excellent advice about pushing on your front line but don’t get so far ahead of your team that you have no flank support.
1:All meds call arty on one jumbo.
2:Retreat.
3: Repeat.
To kill the m4 just shoot it anywhere because it'll get uptiered to 6.7 with king tigers

the 75 Jumbo's 5.0. It can't get uptier'ed into 6.7 games. And King Tigers should really worry about the T29 and T34 heavy tanks first before a sherman.

I have over 1500 battles on Cobra King with 71% winrate.
So 2 additions:
1) T-34 (even 85) is extreamly easy target if you practice to shoot under turret enough
2) You will never be uptiered xD (for real, get used to tigers and panthers in every round)

@@rinaldoman3331 You aren't shooting a Jumbo then you are shooting one of the other Sherman variants which have lower armor as when the Jumbo is directly facing you the armor has 165mm equivalent protection against APHE as its 102mm thick angled at 45* and over 200mm of protection against apcr so even if you are using the 5.7 BR T-34-85 the APCR ammo wont help.
I play the Jumbo all the time and love your summary - it completely matches my experience of the vehicle. I love it too.
When the jumbo was 4.7,i had a good french lineup with amx-13 dca, m4a4 sa50 and of course the jumbo. It was a fantastic tank at 4.7, sometimes i had like 2000 score just by being hit by shells, without a single kill
Now it is the German Churchill for me
One more thing about stabiliser.
This is likely one of the first tanks with it people get, and while it works only on low speeds, there is additional advantage - sudden stops.
Long story short - it improves effective reaction time and accuracy on snapshots if you simply stop.
Another thing worth noting - there are really only few tanks that pose a real, consistent threat to you frontally - like Dicker Max.
On the other hand, sometimes things that in theory should not be able to reliably penetrate you... do. A good example is early T-34-85 that in theory should not be able to pen your frontal plate unless going for weakspots, yet somehow it frequently does.
That being said - Jumbo is a complete nightmare to conventional medium tanks, especially Panzer IV series. They can't reliably penetrate it even with APCR, while it can slice through their armour like hot knife through butter almost at any angle - especially when aiming at the turret.
Jumbo will struggle somewhat against heavier targets, like Panthers, but they still have weakspots much more prominent than Jumbo itself does - like infamous mantlet on a Panther.
There are really only few tanks that Jumbo truly struggles with - and those are other Jumbo tanks, Jagdpanzer IVs and Hetzers.
I just got the Jumbo recently, my recent game saw me facing a Churchill, A Panther, A german KV-2, An M4( Idk if it was a Jumbo tho), and a Pz. IV H(I think>).
All their shots literally bounced off my front armor and I only got killed when the Panther managed to creep up on me. Alas I can't get a kill on them because the 75mm gun couldn't pen, I only had to aim for their tracks and their guns to disable/immobilize them somehow. That being said, I still get 6 Assists and 1 Kill, which earned SP and I am satisfied.
Sturer Emil is now 5.0 and it can penetrate the jumbo any angle any distance no problem. This is not to mention the quick firing Nashorn and VFW at 5.3 and 5.7 respectively, which can also penetrate the jumbo pretty easily. There are also the German long 75mm guns which can penetrate the jumbo at closer ranges.

If im i have an enemy i cant pen infront of me and i know my team will be there any sec i always start ramming the enemy tank and push it back, denying him to go around me or running away. Works 9/10

The Jumbo, the only tank that's scary until you realize that they're looking at you dead on, and there's an MG port.
I use a wise combination of helmet and other decoration to hide my mg and that usually work pretty well
I gosh damn love the Jumbo, especially 76W version. It has gun, the armor, the mobility like medium tanks that I like. I often go charging at front and either with teams dominate the battle or ended up one of the first casualties on the battlefield. Even now when I have T26, I still take Jumbo all day long. I play arcade ( yes I am arcade noob) and it feels like printing my own SL with it, you will dominate battles as long as you are not uptiered and you treat it as you treat Tiger I ( like cover your damn weakness goddamnit Tiger I are so easy to kill)

You neglected to mention the top hmg can track opponents so you can keep them in place or stop them from flanking you

Many Jumbos wiggle or hide the hull gunport, but turret is more or less easier to aim.
Ammo with HE filler can deliver a good paralyzing shot.

When this tank entered the game was very problematic, now this is not a problem anymore. Every shot taken at it's tracks when angled a little results in destruction. Trap shots works great and that mg port is targeted by reflex, no bush can hide it. Not even talking about ap monsters that can pen the turret with no problem from a distance. I like it, played well, being a shield for you teammates behind you with more powerful guns is the best way to play it , careful with those tracks, will bounce shells upwards into the hull. Found that the hard way but every kick in the ass is a step forward.

Everyone fears this tank but i haven’t been killed by it in my tiger 1 in months. It’s not hard to deal with frontly in my opinion.

And that's why I love sniping with the Pvkv m/43 (1963), the APDS just penetrates everything at 5.0 at any range

The 5.0BR Jumbo's great, even after having its BR increased to that level. I'm really enjoyed getting back into it (after playing a lot of 7.7BR). I never get tired of enemies revealing themselves by shooting at me, then I draw them into a nasty duel that (currently) they usually lose. My luck can't continue forever!

They ruined the US lineups I used to play. I wouldn’t mind the Jumbo at 5.3 if the Hellcat could be in my lineup. But the Hellcat is now 5.7 so I might as well use an Easy Eight.
@@TheCarDemotic Yeah. At 5.0. the Cobra King was easily my best producer of silver lions. I am totally baffled by people who claimed it was too weak at 5.0. But 5.3 means it can face a plethora of nasty 6.3 vehicles etc. I don't think I'll be returning to it for a while. Very weird to see it climb up to the same br as the worst tiger 1 which, maybe a year or so ago, was a whole 1 br higher I think - but not necessarily unfair, as I am fairly happy facing Tiger 1s in my Jumbo. I'm a sucker for punishment, so am currently running those USA vehicles that dropped from 8.3 to 8.0 but are probably still fairly bad (the M60A2 and M551). Both rely on a strange mixture of slow missile and slow lobbing HEAT round. So I am interested to see how today's new change to war thunder (binoculars being able to rangefind) might subtly affect my performance. It'll be good for my lobbing stuff, but not so good for preventing me from being rapidly sniped from nowhere while I guide my missile. I think they have just shave anothe 400 silver lions off the M60A2's repair cost too. The binoculars thing certainly won't help the Jumbos.

I don't think you mentioned that the lower hull sides are that of a normal sherman at ~40mm and are much easier to pen than the upper sides, which I've found can still be very bouncy when you're uptiered against it. It's a much larger weakspot than the machine gun at least and the reason you should be very careful when angling in it. In addition using the lower mantlet as a shot trap is another last ditch approach.

Great Video as always - but 2 minor details:
1.) The cuppola is a weakspot which can be penetrated by T-34 1941 - 6:14 (only for APHE / or like u said high caliber HE)
2.) Shooting at a Tiger sideways, try to hit behind the Tracks, the Armor there is just 62mm (instead of 82 at the "upperside") 4:35
the trackwell on the tiger is a risky shot (I know, I've killed quite a few tigers with the event bt7), flat on upper hull might be safer than trackwell shot that the tracks or roadwheels might eat

Hey you should do a how to for the Cromwell II as I never see anyone play it properly and they always die first.
I learned the hard way. But most times if I. Lucky, a side shot or behind the turret will do the trick.
Playing the Sherman 75mm is so fun and satisfying
also dont forget the plate behind the tracks is standard sherman and can be easily penned even with high angles
I used to hate the Jumbo, got frustrated every time I saw it. Then I played with the French Jumbo and learned its weak spots. Now it's most of the time easy prey, but still a dangerous opponent.

Im playing this tank very often and I have no difficulties tanking out tigers and panthers. U should be careful, but when u stay calm, u cant get killed, if u are playing smart enough

Today i was playing jumbo and my freind hid behind me in an is-1 and he didn't have parts he lost his engine and i started repairing it but there were three panthers a tiger h1 and a puma that was farming points by repairing all the damaged ones i took 27 shells but thats all i could count in replay maybe more and we reversed asap because of the wall of germans and then the lord and saviour pe-8 killed all of them with one bomb and i didnt die i got so much rp and sl that game
I highly recommend the jumbo
You can ricochet an APHE shell off the top of jumbo's tracks even when heavily angled and it will plow through that 38mm side armor like its nothing. you have to shoot right, but it usually works. Try it with the Jumbo's gun on protection analysis.
IDK how it works, since if you shoot the armor directly it just bounces.
how it works is that it goes through the floor of the ammo racks that are sitting on top of the tracks.

As a Panther driver I just shoot them straight in the upper glacis (remember, the upper parts!) And still oneshot them when it pens. Of course, this requires them to be not angled, which Jumbo players almost never do (they're just that confident). This works even from ~500meter

or it could just be that 38mm thick side armor that does not allow for any angling whatsoever that's keeping players of jumbo stick to front only
@@doktork3406 its side armor is 76mm thick, the same thickness of a regular sherman's front plate. What's 38mm is the plate under that, behind the tracks, which at a 45 deg angle will remain difficult to penetrate as the tracks will eat your shell.

IS-2 has no hesitation to kill this.
I'd like to appoint out I get one shot an effective part of the armor more often than not. Although, I have snuck up a lot of people while using the Jumbo and most of them were Tigers.
The M4a3e2 is overpowered now with volumetric rounds
The IS-2 can pen it from 500m with no problem, not really sure if this is shown in penetration stats but many have done it before
I also love to use smoke shells with this tank.

If you somehow get the right br you have the possibility of having a good time. But since you will be uptiered 9/10 times it’s rather shite with most being able to pen you frontally.

The M4A3E2 Assault Tank, my best battle ever: 18 kills, 5+ assists, 0 DEATHS! The enemy team could not leave their own spawn.......... One my ALL TIME FAV and MOST PLAYED TANKS IN GAME!!! to be honest. with over 600 battles in AB, and over 200-300 in RB, the short barreled 75 is DEADLY if in the hands of an experienced player. A good Jumbo player can kill Panthers Tigers, IS-1, IS-2 BUUUUUT can sometimes really leave more to be desired. to SUM IT ALL UP, the gun is Adequate.

It's armour is not as effective, as you will meet Russian 122mm guns and the long 88mm guns on the Tigers
