Brilliant! Sub given! Brings a tear to my eye as i see Nigel, storming through Donny like that. I'm old enough (73yrs) to remember my train spotting days in the 1960's at Donny and York! A big thank you to you Crunchy Nut and all the young people taking a interest in these beautiful machines. Steam needs you!!
Many thanks, I'm very glad that you enjoyed it! I'm also glad to have brought back those memories, I'm sure the train was quite an accurate representation of what used to be! I also agree on your point about young people in steam, thankfully since the pandemic more and more people seem to have taken up the hobby which is great to see. Regards, Dan
I am 71 years old and remember these incredible Steam Engines from my boyhood, We lived in the flats right by the Turntable of the Nine Elms Engineering Sheds in Battersea, London, there was a little steam engine to turn the thing, The flats were quite new in the 1950s but the whole block would shake when the little engine was working, if for some reason it wasn't working, two blokes could turn the thing by hand, even when they had the biggest engines on it, it was quite a sight to see. I have to say i got quite emotional watching those Engines Steaming along, it brought back many memories.
64 next month and worked trains into Waterloo from Bournemouth & Salisbury for 31 years. I would have loved to see Nine Elms as it was. Worked with a few Wloo drivers too from 1988 who would have been there.
@@kristinajendesen7111 Thank you for the reply. For kids it was a incredible sight to see, especially when some of the biggest locomotives came slowly down the line onto the turntable, these beautiful things, creeping slowly along, we would shout at the drivers who would wave to us if they saw us. We were a lucky bunch of kids.
@@daneelolivaw602 I saw one at Coventry station in about 1964 when my mum took me across to see it, frightened the life out of me because I was only 3 and a rebuilt and unrebuilt Bulleid pulling Up & Dn Bournemouth Belles past Meyrick Park Bournemouth in 1965. They could have been Nine Elms or Bomo locos. 24 years later I would start at Bournemouth West Depot as a guard. Wish I had seen the station though.
Thank you so much for all the memories discussed on this thread! I sadly never got to see any of these things as I'm too young lol but I'm really happy to hear of them and imagine! I'm very glad the video brought back memories for you and it's great that we still have the ability to see them even nearly a century after some of them were built! Regards, Dan
Thank you very much! I did think I was taking it too far attempting to get three lol but I'm very glad I did it! 60007 was most certainly the highlight. Regards, Dan
You certainly put the effort in, racing from the ECML to the WCML. I contented myself with the A4 and Black 5 at York. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much! I'm very glad you appreciated the effort and I certainly was thinking I'd lost the plot when booking the tickets lol. Hopefully they were great at York! Regards, Dan
Awesome footage.....thanx for sharing .... To see her roaring through Donny, her Birthplace , is just magic.....and that sound.....wow !!!! Cant wait for Rail 200 next year !!!
Thank you very much!! Yes, a location like that for an LNER loco will always be a classic, particularly if the signallers give her a good run lol! She certainly made a very impressive show. And me neither! I imagine the North East will be hosting lots of events which I greatly look forward to! Regards, Dan
I remember seeing this train when I was a boy, and the trains were identified as 'streaks' It was the iconic whistle that identified them from a distance .
Dan, A few more people were at Newark than in the evening and Doncaster was rather busy. A great accomplishment capturing three out of the four steam tours. Well done. Regards, John
Cheers as always John, both were very busy but I half saw it coming with all the extra excitement of two steam tours within a few minutes of each other. I'm glad you appreciated the efforts, thank you! Regards, Dan
Excellent, I lived in Banbury in the mid 80's while stationed at R.A.F. Upper Heyford with the U.S. Air Force and the Sir Nigel Gresley would come frequently to the station. I lived in a flat right across the street next to the canal. Love that locomotive
I remember in the very early 60’s waiting to go on my first train journey to London, as the train pulled into the station it looked like a great beast noisy and billowing smoke,it was amazing,my dad was a steam enthusiast so often went to steam fairs and The Bluebell Railway😊
That sounds amazing, thank you very much for the memories! Steam has always had so much more character than the modern rubbish that populates our railway system now lol. Regards, Dan
Really enjoyable compilation; thanks for uploading! And I like your nom-de-plume; "Crunchy Nut Steam" I knew a family who had a hamster called "Crunchy Nut" 😂😂
Thank you very much, I'm really glad you enjoyed all the footage! And yes, it's an unusual if outdated channel name but I quite like it 😂 I didn't know anything other than my channel was named after cereal lol! Regards, Dan
3:47 I spy me on platform 3 right up the end, I said to Liam I'm pretty sure I seen you on opposite platform, it was the hands behind back stance in my video just before the arrival that gave it away 😄 lovely captures mate
Ah cheers Andy, yes I feel I'm probably quite recognisable at times lol. I didn't know you'd been about, would have said hello if I knew lol! I'm sure I'll probably see you about for the Polars. Regards, Dan
@crunchynutsteamfilms5043 if its not the stance it's definitely the hair mate lol, the same mate it was only when I was viewing me video waiting at Preston n I was like that's Dan that is. I've been about capturing the polars each week, was at your neck of woods last Sunday mate, hopefully catch you before Xmas with the remaining ones
Cheers James, it was a very long day and once I hit the bed back home there was no going back lmao! I'm very glad you enjoyed the efforts, and your video of Bahamas is excellent. Regards, Dan
Yes, the set, route and loco matched perfectly on this one! The Blue and Grey I'm not a massive fan of myself although it does look quite different to a lot of tours from the last 10 years or so. Regards, Dan
@@crunchynutsteamfilms5043 The only blue that I liked was the on the original Blue Pullmans. I was lucky enough to see one near Reading when I was little. Must admit that the HST faux Pullman looks superb too.
The chime whistle is a favourite of anyone who hears it lol, it's a classic! An A4 at Donny will always be a huge attraction, long may things like that continue! Regards, Dan
Thank you very much! Yes I would have loved to see the yellow stripe on the cab as well as the red shed/numberplates but I believe that was a one time thing. Maybe another LMS loco will sport them soon enough! Regards, Dan
Haha I'd second that motion lol! Sadly they're often a necessity nowadays but it's even more special to see the occasional tour without them. Regards, Dan

Love it , a steam locomotive with a diesel back up! Sorry Sir Kire. 😂
Thank you very much! Regards, Dan
Ooh, proper colour coaches behind the A4 too even if they are not all Mk1s (growing up early 60s & 70s, always detested blue & grey).

I like seeing old stream on the main line just wish they didn't have the diesel on the back
why are the all dragging a 100 ton loco behind them
Love to ride on its footplate
Me too! Sadly I've never had the opportunity but hopefully one will arise some day. Regards, Dan
44871 going some on the second shot mate
Certainly was mate, mind you 45596 at Preston definitely beat it! Regards, Dan
A4 at Donny with that Chime. XLNT
