Thanks Allan. It was quite remarkable how well we could see both the tours, it would've been even better if we'd also got 44871 at Newark as planned, as its very rare you can overtake two tours at once.
Saw them at Claypole level crossing, though the A4 almost gave me a heart attack as to begin with it was reported to be 40 mins early at Werrington Jn north of Peterborough, but nek minnit and to some relief it was 12 mins late!
Even though they're neither nasty looking nor characterless and you're being ridiculous. They spend most of the day not doing anything, blend in perfectly with the train and are necessary for train heating and shunting purposes. It's been the accepted norm for decades now.
More than anything because it lets them use steam locos they can't use otherwise. 61306 would be useless to LSL without the ability to run it on 12 coaches.
Great video of 2 iconic locos, the long chime was the stuff of dreams👍
Thanks David. Absolutely, that made the shot!
Brillaint video Thomas!
Thanks Henry
Excellent footage of 44871 thanks Tony Simpson

Very good video content and nice to see you get to all those locations to see the two steam rail tours. Very enjoyable viewing. 🙂

It went past me on Friday, it was a nice surprise from the normal
Saw them at Claypole level crossing, though the A4 almost gave me a heart attack as to begin with it was reported to be 40 mins early at Werrington Jn north of Peterborough, but nek minnit and to some relief it was 12 mins late!
Nice video Thomas :)
Cheers Simon
Saw myself in video thanks
Really wish they would stop ruining the image of these glorious beasts with those nasty looking, characterless diesels on the back
They're needed for train heating and such
Even though they're neither nasty looking nor characterless and you're being ridiculous. They spend most of the day not doing anything, blend in perfectly with the train and are necessary for train heating and shunting purposes. It's been the accepted norm for decades now.
Totally agree
Also used for banking as well. For example when LSL send trains down to Plymouth the diesel would help the steam up Hemerdon bank
More than anything because it lets them use steam locos they can't use otherwise. 61306 would be useless to LSL without the ability to run it on 12 coaches.
