    1) the gen 7 is not heavy. It’s a true aero bike which is supposed to have a little more weight
    2) the gen 8 is not as light as they claim- not even close - so that 320 grams is BS
The gen 8 is not faster than the gen 7. Road SLR 7 gen 8 and my current SLR 7 gen7- the new one is not faster , not more comfortable.
The lack of sizes available- is gonna hurt more people than they think.

LOVE Trek. Big supporter, used to sell them. They stand by their product and produce GREAT products. Bontrager is phenomenal and equally made its place in history as a great component manufacturing for all things bicycles. Everything I own and thus my wife and kids own is TREK / Bontrager. 2 madones, a verve, and an X-caliber. All ride as advertised and deserve the hype.
Phew. Ok so with that said.
I am getting sick of the higher end marketing. These claims of "saves you 77 seconds over the previous model!" Sounds like political jargon. Talk. Like if you asked how they would be like "well we found when we tested the new madone above sea level on a 70deg day in sunny no wind conditions - it's 77 seconds faster than the previous model at sea level in the rain and no wind." Ya know? Like it's just sticker slapping with acute angles to make those claims - is how it sounds.
When i bought my madone in 2009 at the shop i worked in, it was a pro level 5.2 OCLV black with Race Lite wheels and full ultegra. Race worthy and ready. VERY FAST. 3700 was the sticker price. So in 15 years the prices have doubled and that's not even top line models like this one. 13000 for this madone. INSANE.

Dude! That is a heavy bike. VERY surprised by the weight. My '09 madone (mind you I have overhauled and kept it as up to date as i can without going disc) weighs 16.65lbs or 7.55kg. It's full ultegra, cable everything, 11spd, and rim brake. Bontrager D3 TLR carbon wheels.

The previous Madone was a far more handsome bike and the 2024 Emonda was a brilliantly versatile and quick bike that was really hitting its potential as a design.
I can understand why Trek simplified the offering into one bike, as the two were merging into one another’s territory anyway. But this Gen 8 just looks a little soft/weak and is maybe struggling with getting the mixture right IMO.
I just bought an SL7 Emonda and when I heard about the new Madone coming out I thought I had messed up - upon finally seeing the Gen 8, I’m glad I got the last Emonda.

I said it on the video but I think it only matches the previous gen because of those water bottles.
I will say though that aero isn’t something that we can see and going smaller does reduce the area component of cda. Probably the most important aspect of aero. I think just because the tubes aren’t as deep, doesn’t make it less aero.
I’m sure Tour magazine will get this in their wind tunnel and put it to the test! We shall find out then

It’s hard to say isn’t it. I did also think paint but surely that’s only 100-150g?
I still reckon you would probably need a sensitive wind tunnel to tell the difference between this and the sl8.

@@cyclingunboxed some of the glossy finished S-Works SL8's come in at damn near the weight of the matte finished 10r Pro SL8's so paint can easily account for 150g. The new Madone is a porker though and, component for component, seems like it will always be nearly a pound heavier than an equally specced SL8. hopefully its ride quality continues to be exemplary.
