Martyn, thank you SO much for taking us along on your “working” weekend. I’m very jealous! What fun!
I enjoy our visits (don’t worry about length-if needed they can be watched in bits and pieces) and I can certainly handle multiple videos in a week……especially one about steeking (gasp!) The cardigan (from what I could see) looked beautiful….cannot wait to see you actually cut your knitting. Until next time I’m working on Vertices Unite (we won’t talk about WIPs until the end of the month😉) I’m still all in vapors about the beautiful yarn! Cheers

What a lovely weekend you had!! I miss yarn shows. You came home with treasures…memories, gifts, and purchases!!
I taught myself to tat 26 years ago! That was incredibly challenging pre-TH-cam. While it’s not difficult to do, it’s very difficult to describe in writing. I love the idea of tatted stitch markers! I may have to design my own.
Be well, friend Martyn. Love, light, and blessings to you and yours.

    Lokiii!
Such a packed weekend, I bet you were a great seller and added popularity to their stand haha
That's a huge venue, I would have gone lost there. And there was still room for that stage, wow!
What a fun tradition ("turning into sheep") and there were more people watching than I expected!
And a joke at the end - ba dum tss!
Yeah, don't post too often please so I won't fall behind again.. every medal has two sides 😉
I hope you and Loki had some quiet days and Mark will be home safe and soon.
My knitting mojo has come back recently and decided to stay for a bit.
I finished the Montréal cowl (😲), just need to block and sew it up.
I started Calbert the Lady Amhearst Pheasant on time and try to follow the CAL-rhythm though I will be away for a bit in May and will try to do those days in advance.
And then there's YAL-1 coming round the corner in May too!
And I have plans to knit the current Rowan KAL, A Built World, I can easily do the big big blanket to destash a little 🙈 This will be a project over time, more likely for the rest of the year or so. We'll see.
I did all the planning and calculating, now the biggest hurdle before being able to start is to wind all the skeins. Theres 23 of them! 23! Twenty-three! 2...3...
I'm fainting at the thought of winding for hours.. at least you're able to watch TV or youtube or listen to music when winding (at least I don't "have to" film it, that would be quite a vlog 😂).
    Maybe on Saturday.
If I did one a day.. it would still take me more than three weeks 🤣 But who only winds one skein a day? Ahhhh not going to solve that problem now. Hmpf.

    Hi Martyn,
So envious, could almost smell the yarn fumes!
    Display looked lovely.
Our biggest local(well almost) show is at the end of July, used to be Fibre East, now a new show organised by love4wool, as the summer yarn festival at Ampthill in Bedfordshire. Very restrained on the yarn front.
I saw some orange yarn in a local Charityshop, a stand of brand new Cygnet Pato, so it looked like it was meant to be, so I’m crocheting some orange flowers after all.
Finished the Marie Curie socks, and the mosaic crochet mat from my workshop sample, no progress on shawl, and no I’ve still not sewn up my cardi, but I’ve cast on a hat with the left overs from the crochet cowl from the crafting weekend.
    Take care, stay safe x

I loved this week's VLOG and thank you for taking us to the show! I am excited to find the skirt pattern and tips for making the special yarns go further. I have so many one skein SPECIAL yarns that I save for just the right pattern, then can't find a great one skein pattern. You should find a special assigned pooling pattern for the dark rainbow pop of color skein!! There are some fun ones coming out now with dyers making such lovely yarns. glad you had a great time and thanks for sharing

What a great video Martyn! You did a good job of capturing the atmosphere of the show. I met you on the stall on Sunday, which was a lovely surprise to see you there. It's so interesting to see behind the scenes. It's a tiring day for us visitors and I've always thought it must be an exhausting time for the vendors, but everyone is so helpful and friendly in spite of all the hard work it takes to put it together. Every vendor I spoke to said how lovely it was to be back in live shows again and to be meeting people. Crafters are truly generous people. I brought along my Knit & Natter group of 20 ladies to the show and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I've told them all about your channel and how thrilled I was to meet you there, so hopefully you'll get a few more subscribers. Keep up the good work.
By the way, I wasn't as disciplined as you and I bought loads of gorgeous yarny goodies.😊

Hi Martyn. That was so much fun seeing the other side of the show. I used to work on the markets and sometimes people don't appreciate how much work it takes loading, setting up, being on your feet all day, dismantling and taking an inventory of your sales, stock and how much you lost through other means!
I used to get really annoyed with the customers who came right at the end want to look and ask about everything and either walk away empty handed or one of the less expensive items I sold. They really don't think you've been up since the crack of dawn, hardly managed to eat and drink all day and are dead on your feet.
I used to do six days a week and Mondays was my day off and once I'd done all I needed to do I just literally just did nothing all day until it was time to pick the kids up from school.
Did enjoy it though. The camaraderie with other stall holder was great.
    How's Her Majesty coming along?
Take care and keep safe. xxJane

Thank you for sharing your adventures at Wonderland Wales I've not been to a yarn show probably a good thing for my wallet! but I would love to experience one for myself. As a consumer, I would not have realised the time and effort gone into each stall by the very talented owners and makers, it really is a very intensive weekend. I am in awe at all of their talented work and enthusiasm for yarn. Your own enthusiasm is wonderful to watch. I don't crochet but watching you create all those lovely Toft creations makes me wish I could crochet. I hope you have recovered from your weekend at the yarn fair and yes I was very impressed with your restrained haul!

How could you leave with just one skein? I promised myself that I'd be good and only buy 1 carded batt to spin. I left with a hand painted batt, a Manx Loughtan fleece, 400g of a beautiful handpainted blend of merino/tussah silk, 200g of angora and some of the most beautiful hand dyed/painted mulberry silk I've ever seen from Hilltop Cloud. Oh, and a new Turkish spindle. I meant to spend around £40 on a batt - I ended up spending at least 3 times that! You really should learn to spin - it opens up whole new realms for your creativity. There's nothing quite like wearing a sweater that you've processed from raw fleece to finished garment.

Okay, there's a shawl hanging on the wall that's black with a bright multi colored contrast, in the beginning of the podcast. It's got a square of the contrast color at the bottom where the point is. Do you know what the name of that shawl is? The sign next to it says collaborations and Ammonite Yarns. It looks like you had so much fun! I am almost 70 years old now, but when I was 18, I did the "cat walk" for my Mom's knitting. There was a show here at a fancy motel and I got to show off my Mom's knitting. She was into machine knitting by that time and she was so good at it. I've never seen seams so perfect. I still have those knitted things. I can still wear some of the sweaters, but it's just nice to look at them once in a while and remember sharing something so fun with my Mom. I love those stitch markers your friend gave you. And that baby Pengwieno jacket is so cute! I've wanted to make the adult version but put it off. Now you've inspired me to get to it!

That’s the Caribbean Shawl and was designed by Ruth from the shop. The pattern shows that you can pair a lovely hand dyed skein (the coloured one!) with a commercial yarn (a 4-ply sock yarn in this case) to make that special skein go further. The pattern is available on Ravelry but if you can’t use that let me know and I’ll find another link for you. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/caribbean-shawl-2

So just a comment, you looked at a great deal of fibre for someone who is not (yet) a spinner my friend… perhaps this is about to change? I was so looking forward to your video but unfortunately I had to stop after only 1/4 way in. Too much zooming around with the camera and I felt utterly sick. I don’t understand why you can’t stay on one spot so we can actually see the wonderful craft. I was keen on seeing the cushions and blankets but you zoomed too fast to have a good look. Obviously this doesn’t seem to have affected others, as they have given you a good review. I’m real sorry I couldn’t stay to see everything. 🥲

    • @knit365blog
      @knit365blog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I really do try to find a balance in my videos, there are some frozen shots of the cushions and information for example with no movement. These kind of ‘on-the-go’ videos are much harder to focus on a slow/still speed compared to when I just sit down and show items where I can more easily slow the pace. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy this one but I will continue to try to keep the movement speed in mind in future videos.
