I love that you are willing to experiment and learn new things. I wanted to tell you, don't be afraid of a little extra energy in your yarn, this is what gives it durability and strength. I think the amount of twist in your first skein was totally acceptable and would not have really affected the end result (knitted work) in any significant way, other than to make it a tad more durable and less likely to pill or wear out. The slubby sections created by the sari silk are a feature, not a bug, and add interest to your yarn. Well done! Can't wait to see what you do with your cabled yarn.
i love what you said in the end of the video. Things are made to be used! There's no use being scared of your crafting, cause overcoming that anxiety is what lets you get better at making things!
When I saw the singles I thought "fire colourway" and the sari silk is giving off little sparks, especially in the singles. So cool! Also the brown of that dress is so nice, something about the warm richness is making my brain happy. I think it would look great with some walnut dyed wool! I found knitting with silk to be more pleasant when using metal needles for maximum slip, so if you have the choice or issues with another material you can try that :)

I blended sari silk with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes fiber and it looks the same colors as yours! I just finished spinning it and im making it into a hat for my BFF.
Was an absolute blast watching your fibre shenanigans while spinning up my own concoction of fibre goodness … 😁 I recently made 70+ rolags from Merino, sari silk, eucalyptus fibre and other bits and pieces. Spinning up a real lumpy, bumpy yarn and I love it!! Was very nervous about using the eucalyptus fibre (a first for me) as it is so slick and silky and pretty difficult to control, but I’m so glad I did! I think your finished yarn is lovely and almost the same colours as the butterfly … ❤️ I used to see them all the time as a child living in the UK, so that brought back some very fond memories … 😊
Another option is to use it with another cream colored hand-spun yarn to have a colour-work project. The cream/off white would really make your cabled yarn pop.
Is your wheel perfectly in line, the big wheel with the groove on the maiden? Or it could be the thread on the scew that holds the maiden is worn,. I had to put a slightly longer screw in mine, now works perfectly. And of course don't forget a little bit oil

I love using sari silk when making rolags and batts, I added some ultramarine blue and purple sari silk, plus some navy and purple tussah silk to some naturally dark brown/black Shetland and got a gorgeous tweedy yarn!
I routinely ply yarn that is as energized as yours. After a good soak and a thwack, it balances out to give a lovely yarn. I’ve had only one case (out of 10-15?) where it remained over-twisted.
Not sure if this will be of any help, as the only "drive band thrower" in my stable was my great wheel that I remedied by re-aligning the wheel to the spindle assembly -- but winding sewing thread in wood gaps has proven to be quite useful in reinforcing other fiber tools, particularly antiques that require non-invasive fixes.
That opening shot with the captions just saying "Seductive Rock Music" made me laugh! And Oh My you got a big sponsor! Go you! When you suggested a vest for the yarn, I immediately saw it as a buttoned vest (gilet?), with maybe some wooden or coconut buttons?

I found that my older Ashford traditional did not line up with the bulky flyer, especially when you get to the smaller whorls. This causes it to toss the drive band much more easily. I've heard of people moving the maiden or maybe the mother of all over to help this issue, but I've been to nervous to try it.
Luckily I got mine with the jumbo flyer installed by people who knew what they were doing, and the only thing I had to do to fix my issue is screw the maiden a bit tighter in place...
I like this yarn! I’d either knit a vest, or perhaps an infinity cowl, or a triangular shawl that keeps on going until all the yarn is used up. Hi! I'm from Belgium too and I am so in awe of the fibre you are able to find locally. Do you have some tips for finding events/markets in the area? I was thinking of going to dag van de wol next week, but it's a bit too far away and I don't know other fiber people to join me on the drive :)
Hi so yeah, that fiber market was in the Netherlands too (Kerkrade). I might also go to dag van de wol. But if you're free this weekend: Made in Wool in Court-Saint-Etienne, the very first Belgian fiber festival!
You might have to adjust the position of the maiden/mother of all so it better lines up with the jumbo flyer you have installed. There are 2 screws under the maiden/mother of all that when loosened let you move it all to better aligned position. My Traditional used to throw the band constantly with the jumbo flyer until I got it adjusted correctly.
I have it for over a year now, and it only recently started doing that. (I bought it with the jumbo flyer). But maybe the screws need some tensioning...
9:29 My identification app says that your lovely visitor is named the European Peacock Butterfly! Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for all your natural neighbors. It's infectious in the best way.
We have the Buckeye butterflies here as well, and they lay eggs on members of the Scrophulariaceae family like snapdragon and figwort, but apparently they also use other plants depending on their region.
Bobbin chicken is when you hope you have the same amount of yarn on both bobbins and you then ply them together, hoping that you won't end up with a whole lot of left-overs on one bobbin when the other has run out. It is similar to yarn chicken when you hope that you can finish your project (e.g. knitting or crochet) with the amount of yarn you have for it.
How do you like your drum carder? I have the woolmaker bliss wheel, and I was thinking about getting the carder, but no one here in Canada has ever heard of this brand.
I like it well enough. Only downside is that you can't change the distance between the big and smaller drum, and some of the tines of mine actually touch, which they actually shouldn't. (that's why mine is so loud). But it does the job, my batts are lovely.
If I had your problematic maiden I'd try getting a new screw and washer for it. As another user has suggested, you may wish to adjust the mother of all so that the band lines up better.
Your yarn looks like it was influenced by the colour of the butterfly , I was thinking if you used a small piece of leather tacked to the bottom of the maiden that it might help basically the hole has got bigger due to wear ,my husband doesn’t spree with me he said try and find a woodturner who can make anew maiden with a slightly larger base than what you have now. I even think wrapping a bit of wool around the base might help, only my suggestions good luck
I have a similar but different problem with my spinning wheel. One of the wings are borderline to too short for the adjustable holder/mother of all. So all of a sudden the adjustable part jumps out and the wing goes flying with a loud bang. It gives me a small heart attack every time.
A little awkward....but what does "Wolden" means? I googled it, both in Dutch and English, but i can't find an explanation. And now everytime i am watching your channel , it keeps me wondering.🤔
It's a nod to David Henri Thoreau's 'my Walden' (in Dutch 'mijn Walden'), but then with wool (in Dutch 'wol'). Eventhough I have never actually read the book, but I just really love the Nightwish song by the same name. The chorus goes "Weaving my wings from many-colored yarns Flying higher, higher, higher into the wild Weaving my world into tapestry of life Its fire golden, in my Walden"
@@MijnWolden Nice......i already suspected there would be a meaning. I've read the book, but i am not familiar with the song. I will look it up. Weaving my wings from many-colored yarns.......it's a good way to describe the feeling of crafting with wool. Thank you for the explanation

om je Ashford te "fixen" kan je proberen om een heel plat stukje rubberen afsluitring (loodgieterij) gebruiken, knip de ring in tot gat in midden en dan proberen eronder te schuiven. One of the wings are borderline to too short for the adjustable holder/mother of all. So all of a sudden the adjustable part jumps out and the wing goes flying with a loud bang. It gives me a small heart attack every time.
small heart attacks, yeah. this wheel sometimes also blows off the ends of the bobbins.
"...kind of deranged Pavlovian scientist...", "[PAPARAPAPAPA PAPA PAPARPAPAPAPA]".... I love your captions, they are hilarious! 😂😍
Thank you :D
I would make a cropped sleeveless cardigan with that yarn, and instead of buttons, close it with two silk ribbon bows :)
Does anyone know if Skillshare really NEED my card info for a free month or is there a way around that?

@@MijnWolden Nice, I'll try again:) thanks
A little awkward....but what does "Wolden" means? I googled it, both in Dutch and English, but i can't find an explanation. And now everytime i am watching your channel , it keeps me wondering.🤔
It's a nod to David Henri Thoreau's 'my Walden' (in Dutch 'mijn Walden'), but then with wool (in Dutch 'wol'). Eventhough I have never actually read the book, but I just really love the Nightwish song by the same name. The chorus goes "Weaving my wings from many-colored yarns
Flying higher, higher, higher into the wild
Weaving my world into tapestry of life
Its fire golden, in my Walden"
@@MijnWolden Nice......i already suspected there would be a meaning. I've read the book, but i am not familiar with the song. I will look it up. Weaving my wings from many-colored yarns.......it's a good way to describe the feeling of crafting with wool. Thank you for the explanation
You could get piece of metal machined to the dimensions needed.
It reminds me a bit of a hamburger with ketchup and mustard? Very 70s color scheme
I think it’s very 70’s too!!
I can see the 70s, but I'm trying not to see the hamburger for I might get hungry
Washing and hang drying the yarn might have evened out the twist.
It might have. But then I didn't have fun experiments.
Try a little chump of beeswax
I’m sure you’ve checked already but also;
Make sure your main wheel isn’t wobbely and of balance.
Is the driving band tight enough.
actually, you make me think of the song, not the other way around. evil.
Secretly that's my villain arc
You keep looking away from the camera.is there someone you are talking to to your right because you seem to be looking at them and not is as you talk
It's the viewfinder, it's distracting.
