Rip it back is the best thing to do. Use a safety line every 10 rows, that way the furthest you have to frog it is 10 rows. Let me know if you want me to explain how to do it xxx

I think if you chose to rip it back, you would be able to figure out how to put it back on the needles. Because then you would only need to back out one or two rows stitch by stitch. However, just leave it there nobody knows it’s there. You’re going to forget it’s there. You’ll just pick it up and wear it like you do any other shawl. I have made that exact same mistake in that pattern sequence down the middle of a Shawl usually because I forgot the Yarn over. It will be gorgeous no matter what you decide.

I think you should frog it - I would have no choice but to do that. If it’s a two skein shawl, and you aren’t even one skein into it yet, then there is still a lot of knitting to do. Fix it now while you can, otherwise I think you’ll regret it … and it’s lovely yarn.

You could make a mistake every few inches on either side of the spine so that it'll look like tree branches! I think that would look even better!

Martyn, I can understand that you want to fix the mistake of the shawl. If you rip it please start again. The yarn is gorgeous and the pattern too. I knitted two of them (one with a fingering yarn and one with an aran yarn) and I absolutely love both,

Either tink back stitch by stitch or frog back before the mistake in a row where there are NO increases? But thread a lifeline through first. As long as that mistake doesn't upset the stitch count? Just leave it and plough on. Are the Welsh hearts not cooked? Dont put completion time constraints on yourself. Just record when you can. Life gets in the way. We will be still here. ❤

I have the Toft quarterly in my basket ready for payday and I'm desperate to make a frog bag but can't decide which colour to do 😅 maybe I'll just have to raid my stash once I've moved 😂 and I totally get the child in a sweetshop feeling at yarn shows too. Also its kintsugi - Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. If you feel you still like the shawl and would still like it in that yarn then I would frog and start over, this is why my knitting is so slow, unless I have a lifeline in then I start over. I tried fixing the strawberry lemonade shawl and completely failed so I started over a third time...

There was a reason that you stopped the project. Trust your gut that you didn’t want to finish. I am a great fan of frogging projects that I am not happy with. All those silent WIPS are fogging your brain and reducing the fun of crafting. I frog and never look back!

I’m not going to be very helpful Martyn with your shawl dilemma but it really is up to you at the end of the day! I can only tell you I made a mistake on a cable twist on a project some time ago myself. I left it in and carried on. However it played on my mind for weeks and in the end I went back and corrected it- and I’m glad I did! Btw those heart welsh cakes look so delicious x

If it were me, I would take it out to begin again at the cast on. I could live with somethings but that seems like it’s so early you should not be too long to get to that point again. But maybe wait until you get a few of your other WIPS done before starting again. Maybe use it as your treat after finishing Mark’s jumper. 😉 It will be brilliant! 🎉

I would frog it and start again. Your knitting skills are soo much better and you will get it done again really quickly. I hate to say it but I would rip it back and start again, if you cannot pull it back to the point you made the error and fix it. You are so excited about the yarn and so I do not think ripping it back will drown out your excitement for the project. You also are not that far into the patter either. Do it now, before it gets too much further.

i would rip it back but you are more experienced than me. I think you should ask some of your yarny friends to help you fix it. Over here in the USofA, there is a town not too far from me, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where the Amish ladies do the most beautiful quilted afghans and blankets and I have been told they purposely leave a mistake because no one is perfect except GOD.

  • @regine1488

My opinion: frog it completely and do it again. Because if you go on with the mistake left, you will ever know that there is a mistake. You will never be 100% glad about an imperfect endresult. And the yarn is so pretty, it is worth to become a perfect shawl. And the time you consider about is better used to re-do the project.
