(TAS) Super Punch Out!! - 2 Player Mode [2P Wins All Fights] (

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 21 ต.ค. 2024
- I started this TAS several months ago, but left it unfinished due to various other distractions that took my attention away from it. There's likely several improvements that others could make over this, but I felt like this might be a decent starting point for others to build onto if they wanted.
For people who might be unfamiliar with what this is all about, a fellow by the name of @new_cheats_news on Twitter found several undiscovered cheat codes for all releases of Super Punch Out!
/ 1556727895778856960
The 1st one is by pressing and holding Y+R with the 2nd controller while 1p presses A or Start on the title screen. This brings you to a secret menu where you can fight any opponent. If you select a character on that hidden menu, then hold B+Y with the 2p controller during the pre-fight text while pressing A or Start, then the 2nd controller lets you control the opponents!
This TAS was made to try answer the question of: "What are the best possible times you can get as player 2 if player 1 happened to throw out whatever attacks that are beneficial for player 2?"
This is the opposite of the TAS I released a while back, which attempted to get the lowest player 1 times possible, which can be seen here: • (TAS) Super Punch Out!...
There are quite a few fights that end up being weirdly trivial, while some others end up being either interesting, or really silly. I'll give some descriptions of each.
Gabby: For this TAS, both players hitting each other on the same frame will cancel some of the end-lag of player 2's attacks, which ends up saving time in some cases! I fit some in to complement the damage from Gabby's "C'mon!" charges, which freeze the clock. These fights are optimized for in-game time, so attacks like these will be used when available.
Bear: Pretty similar fight to Gabby, but exchange the charges for bear hugs.
Piston: This one likely took the most effort out of the entire TAS lol. I went through several drafts of this strategy, since the first several strategies had so many double hits that Piston would go dizzy, meaning I would have to make him back up to freeze the clock and let his meter drop back down. This version ended up being the best damage per second for double hits that I could find. Piston also starts phases with uppercuts automatically, meaning it needed to be worked around. I'm not convinced this is the best strategy, but it's good for now.
Bull: Similar to the other TAS, but Bull takes the win each charge.
Bob: The fast hooks are filthy on Bob, and mixing it with his windmill charges make this fight a really quick one.
Dragon: His kicks freeze the timer and are instant knockdowns, making this ridiculously short.
Muscle: Muscle's quick jabs, punctuated with headbutt, makes short work of phase 1. It's worth noting that moves with a lot of end-lag ends up usually working out to be faster at the end of knockdowns, since the timer stops immediately when the final blow connects. This is also the first fight where a P1 KO seems to be possible, due to how short phase 2 ends up being, combined with how low health P1 has right before the knockdown. KO mechanics against P1 appear fairly similar compared to the normal game.
Sandman: This might be my favorite, because Sandman's big jab is so ABSURDLY powerful, and its speed is hilarious when cancelled with double hits. I also have Sandman take P1 out with 2 fast jabs, because if you throw a powerful hit for a faster phase 2, P1 doesn't get KO'd, and the KO ends up faster.
Aran: I tried a lot of different stuff for this fight, but fast attacks + 1 normal jab always ended up being the winning strategy.
Heike: The same disgusting hook from Bob shows up again, and it's very clearly the most lucrative button as far as damage and speed. Hair, while powerful, has a very long startup, and ending a phase with it gives P1 a big refill for phase 2, making a KO not quickly feasible, since Heike automatically starts phase 2 with a scripted uppercut.
Clown: Instant knockdowns too strong.
Macho: Super spin freezes time & connects 1 frame after the timer starts again, making this the shortest possible time for a fight to end with in the game.
Narcis: The fast 3 jab combo lends itself well to setting up a KO, and just being better than every other button he has.
Hoy: Stick partially freezes the clock & deals massive damage, making it the move of choice for this kind of TAS. It also happens to leave P1's health just low enough for a 1 phase KO.
Rick: Instant knockdown + fast hook secures yet another ridiculously fast KO.
Nick: Instant knockdown + fast uppercut makes short work of this fight.
The ending I go to at the end of this video is actually unlockable through another code that @new_cheats_news found which you can see here:

Probably one the few TAS' that as soon as it was made, humans can already pull it off.
Honestly, I expected this just to be a spam of the boxers' best moves (like bull charge or bear hug). But no, it actually involves some strategy to make the moves that deal the most damage.
And a cool thing that I noticed: Gabby Jay takes almost the same amount of time to finish you as his wr in the regular game.
PS: missed your vids, zallard.
To be fair, executing these in real time would all be pretty easy, even if somehow no buffers existed for a lot of double hits. The strategy finding is definitely the more fun part for something like this.

Wait, so what are the conditions for a P1 KO?
Is it dealing more damage than the next refill? Or a special move?
Does it variate with each fight?
Generally, refills in the normal version of the game revolve around how fast a knockdown happens in a phase, what boxer you're facing, and with how much HP the opponent had before the finishing blow. It calculates a refill based on those, and if that refill is "0" or below, it's a KO. For this TAS, the main character gets a refill based on those criteria for if you don't mash to get up at all. If you mash to get up, you will get extra HP added to that base refill. If the base refill doesn't at least equal 1 or more, then even mashing won't get you up.
@@zallard1 Does the type of attack also have an impact on the next refill?
@@eliasdex1236 Nope, the only thing that matters about the punch is whether or not it's the one that knocks the opponent down.
@@zallard1 Oh emm, what I meant was if the type of attack affected the KO mechanic in any way? Because I saw on the description that Mr. Sandman had to use fast jabs instead of the big one to get the knockdown in order for the KO to happen.
@@eliasdex1236 The "how much HP the opponent had before the finishing blow" part of what I said above is the reason. It's not the punch itself, but the fact that its weak enough to lower his HP down to a very low number before being knocked down.
The power of yay will redeem himself
Gotta admit… I never thought Bob Charlie would sound like that.
Yæi!
bob charlie uses one of gabby jay’s voiceclips
From what I tested, the fastest Mr. Sandman can win against P1 is if you have Mr. Sandman TKO Transparent (P1) in 0'02"92 by doing the following:
Open Counter-Phase 1 with 2 Double Hits (Power Jab + P1 Jab), then Jab, then a Power Jab to finish Counter-Phase 1 at 0'02"49.
P1 gets up on 8, and you throw a Power Jab to finish Counter-Phase 2 at 0'02"75.
P1 gets up on 8 again, and you throw a Jab to finish Counter-Phase 3 & TKO P1 at 0'02"92.
Ok, so in order for this to happen to me in single player, my game has to smoke crack for two years.

I wonder what the canon explanation is for time stopping when fighters jump around the ring.
It just goes to next round/decision to quick
I always took it that the timer slowing/speeding is that your perception of the ring is altered due to the adrenaline, like the timer is slowed when they're doing that because you're really focused on them when in reality it's almost instant, same with the timer slowing while punching them.
I find it funny how many of the characters for the 2nd player have an instant KO.
i have no clue what you did but good job
in the title screen, make the 2nd controller hold Y and R, then with the 1st controller press start or A
it will send u to like a character selection screen, now, choose whoever u want, when u choose them, u will get sent to like an info of them, in that info, make 2nd controller hold B and Y, then press start on 1st controller, this will make 2nd controller control the opponent

The year is 20XX. After many years of destroying the competition, defending his title, and keeping his career alive against all odds, the boxers of the WVBA have finally had enough of Little Mac. As such, they invited him to fight a grand gauntlet to prove his worth. Little did poor Mac know, the 16 boxers lined up had something more sinister in mind; he could never have known that this one event would prove to be his downfall.
The first opponent in the line up was Gabby Jay, whom Mac assumed would be easy pickings given his reputation and age. But he was gravely mistaken. He was not at all like Glass Joe, whom he was essentially an older version of; he was able to completely throw him off with his taunts and knock him down onto the mat.
Next was Bear Hugger, who was able to temporarily render Mac deaf with rapid-fire ear claps, meaning he could never have heard of the gale-force attacks from Piston Hurricane that came next.
Mac was then assaulted by Bald Bull's famous Bull Rush.
The groovy windmill punches of Bob Charlie and the kicks of Dragon Chan soon followed, after which came the headbutts of Masked Muscle and the ever dreaded Dreamland Express specially served by Mr. Sandman.
Aran Ryan soon came onto the stage, and he didn't have to throw any headbutts or elbows to stomp all over him; he didn't even need to bring his custom-made flail.
Heike Kagero soon gave him a piece of his mind, while Mad Clown made him the star of his mutilation act.
After that came Super Macho Man, who released the mightiest of boguses as revenge for stealing his fame.
On the topic of revenge, Narcis Prince would get retribution for his mangled face, while Hoy Quarlow would beat him senseless with his staff.
As Mac begged for mercy, the Brothers Bruiser took centre stage, and in an act of brotherly unity, the two worked together to finish the job.
In the final scene, as Mac sat in the hospital, his body mangled and wrapped in so many bandages that it made him look like a mummy, flashes of his glory days passed through his mind. The worst part of it all? Doc Louis didn't pay his medical bills. We wasn't even present during the beatdown; he was too busy partying at the chocolate bars convention with his former rivals.
Reads like ChatGPT, also the Brotherly Unity thing sounds really strange given what actually happened
