Of course the guy who lives in Alaska likes "cold" steel. It's the only kind of steel you got up there 😂
Hahaha you got me
I have the srk, recon scout, Trailmaster, warcraft tantos, master hunter, ak47 field knife and more all in CPM-3V and all are awesome.
I need to add those to my collection
Man, the trailmaster is probably my favorite knife series. I have a Fallkniven Modern Bowie, trailmaster in 3V, trailmaster in Carbon V, and a trailmaster in San Mai/VG-1.... but out of those the one I grab the most is the San Mai variant. It's really surprised me at how well it keeps a very keen edge after tons of wood processing; I don't see a difference between it and the 3V model.
I'll be moving to AK this year and I really look forward to testing some of these blades in the bush!
Dang, that is the collection there.
The Recon Scout (7.5" Trailmaster) is a fantastic survival knife.
Agree. Got one in 3V last year for under $200 from Midway USA…
Opinion on Recon scout vs SRK (both 3v) ?
@@Walkingman.45 I have the SRK in San Mai. It’s ok, but I wish it had a flat grind like the Recon Scout.
@@Walkingman.45 I have both in 3V. They are very different knives. The Recon scout is thicker, but also has a full flat grind. It's a lot slicier than you might think for the thickness. The SRK handle is probably better overall, but between the two, I would choose the Recon Scout. I know this isn't really "objective" but the Recon Scout inspires more confidence for me.
Gratitude. My favorite is the trailmaster in San Mai, so I’ll be sure to try the RS soon.
I've got an old SRK in Carbon V. Its a great knife. Extremely comfortable and built like a tank, but has a fantastic grind for cutting.
When comparing the same blade steel across manufacturers, heat treatment is everything.
Last I checked , Bark River has Peter's do the heat treatment for their blades (even if BR occasionally burns the edge on the belt)- who does the heat treat in Taiwan and how big are their batches?
Where is the master hunter 90 ? Thanks great video as always
The drop forged series is a good value also. Especially the Survivalist and the Hunter. Not 3V but 52100 is a pretty tough steel.
Hmm okay I might have to look into them as well
Have you tried self-adhering silicone grip tape on your Bark River? It's a little tacky in the summer but the silicone fixes the (exposed tang) problem perfectly come winter.
Full flat grind on master hunter helps so much. People underestimate how useful full flat grind is all the original Frontiers knives were full Flats. much later for the Bowie knife but it was a fighting knife.
Im Talking the original frontiersmen knifes. Butcher knife were the original Bushcraft knife.
Oh I totally agree FFGs can be very useful. Blows my mind people don’t see that
A hatchet/collapsible saw, and a Buck 110 will serve better in a serious outdoor situation.
I completely agree with you. I've been telling my Buddies the same thing for years. In my humble opinion, there are very few brands that stretch your dollar this far.
Coldsteels traditional knives in CPM-3V is the best value on the market! I paid $115 for my master hunter almost 2 years and was one of the first buyers when Coldsteel transferred production from Italy to Taiwan. I think for almost 2 years you couldn't find them anywhere. Still a great deal, but considering I was able to get a CPM-3V Trail Master for $165, I won't complain. I wish they still make the Recon Tanto in CPM-3V that is one knife that I want to add to my VG10 and SK5.
You should add Coldsteel folders to your collection if you haven't done so already. I completely love the AD10 and carry it in addition to my SRK and pistol when I am in the woods. Coldsteel folders are another best value for your bucks. They come in S35VN, which is almost comparable to 3V.
I completely agree
On a budget, the pocket bushman is a good knife. I believe in fixed blades, but that bushman is near a fixed blade in a compact package.
Great review
You are totally right on this one man can't agree more.
Those 3v Cold steels are the best deals in knives I've seen .
I don't really have a need for one but dang I've been tempted . There is literally no reason to pick a Strongarm over a coldsteel SRKC 3V or their regular sized 3V .
I'm blown away by this deal, I almost bought the orange one cause that's all they had but didn't pull the lever . I have a project blade right now I gotta build .
I am right there with you, when I saw these deals I had to pull the trigger because it’s just an unbeatable deal, I also love how you beat me to it with saying the SRK/C in 3V is a more solid option than the Strongarm and penny for pound it is. But yes finish your project because from what I can see Midway likes to do deals on these blades so I’m sure it won’t be the last time they are on super sale
Cold steel sr1 lite great go bag knife.
i think a 7 inch master hunter in 3v or cru wear would be sick. They can call it the grand hunter...or something lmao.
Cold steel makes some awesome knives.
You’re not wrong!
yep. Cold Srteel makes some goofy mall ninja stuff, but they also make some good gear at a reasonable price
Cold Steel has excellent knives.
They sure do
What about the Cold Steel Razortec?? Looks like a good knife.
Pendleton mini hunter
Where can you buy the Master Hunter in 3V for $89?
Sometimes MidwayUSA on sale
@@Mytubehereat
Must be a really good sale because the only one I could find was $200
Watch out for Midway USA they run super sales periodically
@@reddirt5489Midway has them for 129 right now but Amazon has them for 115 with free shipping.
Thanks for Sharing
I can't find a master hunter for cheaper than 130 the srk is 100 for the orange handle one i don't really like the color but the price is right if you have a link you drop where the master hunter is 90 i would truly appreciate it my friend
New Cold Steel Republic Camp Knife
It’s not bad, a little pricey but not bad
Great video. I cant find the green handed SRK knife you have anywhere. Not on the cold steel website. Or smokey mountain knife works site. Where did you purchase your? Thank you.
Mines FDE actually, but Midway USA
@@AlaskanFrontier1 FDE?
How would you compare this to the Demko Freereign? Given this new steel option.
Still a better value than the Demko, but it’s a close contender to be honest, but which one you can find
SRK in 3V is awesome 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
It so is
Where are you finding them for undr 200 bucks
Midway I believe. Register with your email and get additional 10% off.
Where did you find the SRK for 99?
Midway I believe. Register with your email and get additional 10% off.
@@samthai818 thanks!
Yes Midway USA
Midway USA is Cold Steels largest retailer and they often run crazy sales.
Thank you all!
Hey dude, what do you think about Cold Steel AK47 in 3v made in Taiwan ?
If memory serves it’s a little on the thin side but it’s not a bad knife. The ergos are weird too but I would say it should be fine
I got mine when they were still made in Italy the blade is awesome only the scales are a bit thin the steel is not.
Well, its 5mm thick :D i think it should be strong since its truly full tang, not skeletonized. Whole piesce of cpm 3v. Cold Steel AK47 Field Knife. I have the new version under GSM with a bit different blade geometry and the new logo. Made in Taiwan.
@@IvanIvanov-mk2cp oh okay then in that case yeah it’s pretty solid
Check Skrama 200 before you spend your children’s inheritance on any other survival knife.
It’s coming
Why do all of your knives look brand new like you just opened them for the review? I love your channel but do you actually use any of them?
lol, I don’t know, I keep em clean and usually they look unused for a while. But some definitely do look used
