      See someone watched this video and wasn't upset at the end of the video. No body will ever shoot a knife. But there are tests here that should be considered. Batoning is one of those test. If your knife doesn't like to Baton then you can not really rely on it as a bushcraft knife or survival knife.

      @@Patriot-rising G'day mate, totally agree. I reckon it's important to pair a big fella with a smaller secondary blade for finer tasks but can still get you out of strife and batoning is a key element in doing so. Cheers Duke.

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 Indeed! I added some cable ties to the sheath. This allowed me to attach some molle type puches to carry multitools. I also glued some velcro to the back of the sheath and glued more velcro onto the back of a diamond sharpening plate. And of course added a firesteel loop. Awesome kit now!
      Big knives that hold up and arent too expensive are the best because you dont hesitate to do heavy work with them. I used to carry an A1pro but I felt kind of bad to put it through hard work.

    Cold Steel just has a very consistently good price to performance. They aren't as fancy and nice as a Fallkniven, but also not as expensive as other brands like that.
    Cold Steel just make knives that work with a reasonable price.

  • @GetMeThere1
    @GetMeThere1 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Some may say that the airgun test is not realistic. I think it's good simply because some knives CAN pass, while others don't. It's a realistic test of a level of toughness found in REALLY GOOD KNIVES. That's a useful parameter to be able to measure.

    • @brei2670
      @brei2670 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Well, I'd say it's highly random is what it is... I've seen knives pass that were shot only close or closer to the spine.
      When you shoot it close to the cutting edge, though, I imagine all it needs is a maybe a tiny chip or crack before being shot and it can lead to catastrophic failure.
      I don't mind the test itself, but it would be cool if it was a lot more consistent than what I've seen. Just move closer to the knife is what I'd suggest. Good air rifles are extremely precise, but at range there will always be deviations, and they might not be the best shots in the world either.

Good destructive review on the Cold Steel. I’d say they’re worth considering. A good real world consideration is how easy the thing is to sharpen with just a stone or diamond stick out in the field.

    It would be interesting if you guys did the same shooting test on other drop forged knives.
    I can’t think of many, honestly.
    They no longer make it, but Spyderco’s Serrata was drop forged 440c.
    That knife was quite thick (possibly to account for drop forging process and steel structure ?), but I think the main purpose of using that process with 440c is that it makes for very high edge aggression which means the knife will have a “working edge” life that is relatively long due to the aggression.
    There might be a new version of that design in the works, but no official details, just some comments from the maker/Spyderco.

    I've seen knives go much further than 35deg bends. Mostly customs and go back to straight. Ive seen many budget knives go past 35deg too but not back to straight as often. JoeX has a lot of bend testing too.

    • @escapetherace1943
      @escapetherace1943 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      bend isn't as relevant or necessary in a knife compared to a machete or sword. Yes, this knife would be more durable if it was made with spring steel, but there's zero point.
      The most fragile part of this knife is the tip, which tapers down very, very small
      but the steel it is made of is incredible for holding an edge. I abused it and cut several boxes of kindling with it batoning just to test it, and there is so little edge damage it's amazing.
      My morakniv garberg showed more damage and I split less than 1/20th the amount of wood and didn't abuse it through thick logs like I did with the cold steel, either.
      Joe-X's review said the handle of this is skeletanized, but it actually ISNT, when he shot the pistol through it it broke out the inside bit, where it does get very thin (that's for better blade balance) but it's actually not skeletonized at all.
      This knife has incredible hand feel and durability as long as you aren't throwing it and wasting it's tip into logs. It's one of the best knives I've ever held or seen.

      It’s hard to get bark river knives nowadays for us. Also we have sent two knives back one year ago and still haven’t received them back…

    Wanna see the Modern Bowie in a camping situation. You guys should go total Bushcraft Boys and do a camping trip each with a big knife and small knife. Cook camp and have fun!

    Great videos, guys! I recently found your channel and I am loving your style! I'm wondering if you would review the Ka-bar Jarosz Turok knife? It's "officially" a tactical blade but many people, including myself have found it to be a great camp/survival knife. I'd LOVE to see what you guys think of it compared to the bk2! Really unique design.
    I'm sure it would make for a great video!

    The Cold Steel bend test was of the older “gold” drop forged hunter, but yeah, close enough. Only the handle is different. All in all, a good knife.

    Great video as usual! Could you guys consider to test and review one of this knife? Bark River Cub, Helle Temagami, Helle Utvaer?
    Thanks!

    The esee jungalist would be a great one see you test. I've put one through some of my personal usages in the field but not to any extreme like you do. I'd enjoy watching you test that one!

      Junglas 2 is a better all round knife because it's smaller.

    • @sethrobbins887
      @sethrobbins887 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobjohnson1633 I get that and it's the size of the jungalist that I needed for what I do overall. I have smaller ones for finer detail work. I do appreciate your opinion because that IS one of the things I considered.

    APOC Wayward Camper would be a good knife in the larger survival (and general purpose) knife category to test. Designed by sword maker Angus Trim, made from 9260 steel.
