I remember this case, I have never forgotten McKay’s mother Paulette’s screams in the courtroom when she broke down, when it was described how her son had suffered, just so incredibly heartbreaking. Hilton was truly treacherous and evil.

It was covered by the podcast 'Murder in America'. They did a really good job.
They played segments of an interview they had with Paulette. They were even able to speak with her in person, as one of the cohosts is actually from Conroe.
I know that's not terribly important info, but I just thought it shows the commitment and dedication the two hosts have, as they don't actually live in Conroe currently.
It's a really great podcast, if you're inclined to listen to (sometimes disturbing) true crime 'stories'.
The co-hosts are a young married couple, but there's none of that annoying banter and useless back and forth chatting that so often occurs in other multi-host pods. Just straight to narrating the topics, which I much prefer.

Our oldest daughter’s writing instructor at SHSU was Tannie Shannon who wrote a book called “Seed of Villainy: The Hilton Crawford Story. Mr. Shannon interviewed Crawford multiple times while the later awaited his execution. Crawford was himself married and had two sons. But he was a con man whose schemes were catching up to him. He thought kidnapping the son of his friends would solve his financial problems. I don’t believe he intended to murder McKay. But in order to process the act, he invented a partner, who the police could never verify, who he claimed actually murdered McKay. He went to his death still claiming it was this mystery man who killed the boy. Crawford did not fight his death sentence and his family refused to visit him in prison. Two families destroyed because a man couldn’t accept being mediocre.

I think he meant to kill the boy all along, how he could ever let him go, McKay called him uncle Hilty? I think he wanted to collect the ransom and then kill him, but something happened. He chickened out or McKay tried to escape. Poor kid. The “other guy”-defense fits here perfectly, it’s always other people’s fault with personalities like this.

That's the thing with narcissists though.
They think they're the smartest person in the room, and can **never** fathom that you **wouldn't** buy into their story. They would never even *entertain the idea*, that someone else is smarter than them.
A "person" like that is enraged at the notion that someone else might be smarter, richer, better in any way than them.
That's why Hilton hated the Everett's for their money, their mansion, their happiness. He truly thought he deserved, and was entitled, to have or take everything the Everett's had. He likely thought that they didn't deserve all that money. That should be *his* money.
Narcissists cannot see from any other perspective but their own inflated ego.

They sold water filters, and decanters. Nice presentation meetings though. I even went to two of
them, they were so well put together. Met some interesting, if clueless, people at the meetings.
Anyway, I didn't end up joining. I did buy one of their water filters and decanters. It worked well
for about two years. So I guess it was worth it. Better to buy one of those things where you pour
the water in, and it slowly seeps through the filter, into a water bottle. Cheaper and portable.

It starts with love bombing and eventually always relies on fear. Fear they won't be accepted, that they will lose community (or salvation) etc. It seems that a lot of the MLMs find people with a certain mindset. • @leannemo7382

Because, in many large cities, the people were protesting (some rioting) and demanding to defund or disband the police. Soon afterward, their demands were met by politicians, but it meant MANY less officers for highly populated cities. By setting a lower recruit standard, they now attract less experienced officers (w/less pay) to now desperately fill some of those hastily vacated positions.
In turns out, many of the quality officers retired early or moved to smaller towns or more rural areas, where they’re needed, appreciated, and get paid accordingly. Consequently, crime has risen in most of the cities who defunded and laid off their police officers.

This has got to be one of the dumbest ex-cops I've ever heard of. He just kept making the dumbest mistakes one after the other. First, using his own easy identifiable vehicle to commit the crime, driving up to the victims house in complete daylight. Second, involving multiple people in his crime that would be easy to tie back to himself. Such as using an ex-employee who already had a record, and was dumb enough to use her own phone to call the parents, demanding ransom. He revealed himself to the victim, meaning he would either have to kill him, even if he got the ransom money or be on the run for the rest of his life.
I think the lesson is clear here.......Never get involved with Amway. It was just a bad idea all around.

I recognized that it was a pyramid scheme immediately. So, I was not interested. There was no reference to my faith at all. I was a full-time university Medical Technology student at EWU and worked 1.5 jobs to support my kids as a single parent. At that time, I spent $450/mo. for childcare and $300/mo. for rent at $5.00/hr. Some things are just not worth the risk.
