This is like a scene from Reno 911.
Jesse Hernandez should be nowhere near a gun.

Yesss😂😂😂❤
I was going to write the sane thing. I’m like is that you Dangle?
He resigned
DO you want fries with that ?
Even his name sounds like a Reno 911 character. Like the most basic Mexican name they can think of but instead of “Juan,” they went for “Jesse” to seem more “hip”.

One thing you left out, as a former police officer, I will mention that once a suspect is handcuffed, and in custody, the officer is completely responsible for his safety, there is never a case for using force against somebody who is handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser After they’ve been searched. This is a serious crime. This has been swept under the carpet by the police department and the attorney general or whoever the prosecutor is. If you even punch a suspect who is cuffed and in the backseat of a cruiser, you are criminally liable. Secondly, take a look at the pictures of who was in the line of fire, and or ricochet, while these officers were pointing their muzzles downfield. Officer was within the range and field of fire of the other officer. Situational awareness was gone. They could likely have killed each other just as easily as the unarmed uncharged detainee. This is gross negligence. The sergeant should at least have lost her rank. The suspect should sly sue for civil rights violations. The whole thing is reckless, endangerment, and gross use of excessive force. He will never be the same, and a multi million dollar lawsuit is indicated. Another reason why professional police officers should carry their own professional liability insurance. And when they have these claims against them, they will be blacklisted and they will never be able to work again instead of cities and towns, using taxpayer money to bail them out all the time. Until we change, this will keep happening. “ we investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong.” it should also be required that in a shooting incident another agency does the investigation to remove bias. A no-brainer.
Agreed
Exactly but how do we make this happen? Everyone knows some type of police reform is needed but nothing ever changes.
@aquaqt853
Don't vote Democrat and things might actually improve for Americans lol.
Democrat and leftist people seem to let criminals off lightly. Republicans need to stop blind blue backing though, you guys should ask Trump or Vivek if they would sign emergency powers to stop taxpayer money being used to cover police suits and settlements.
Just make it happen for one presidential term, show how well it works - to make the cops pay for their own liability insurance, any amount not covered by insurance will come from their pension - and by the next term/President you have a lot less corruption.
Now there will obviously be a lot fewer cops, but whoever is left will be more likely to respect and follow the constitution and be in it for the right reasons.
There are no solutions, only trade-offs. I think we should happily trade some of our security for transparency, and to lessen corruption, thus protecting freedom.
Damn, I wish I was American.
Ex Leo also. I came to say the Exact same thing you did !. The level of incompetence by BOTH Deputies is insane. And Dep Hernandez absolutely should be charged with Attempted Homicide at the least.

This is horrifying and hilarious at the same time. Wild.
It really tells you something when trained individuals tasked with upholding law and order is not charged for behavior like this when regular citizens would be charged in a second if they made the same mistake.
It really tells you something about their training. Cops require les training hours than a hairstylist.
“Trained” is an overstatement in the US when it comes to cops
Yes. It is a felony in some states just for a negligent discharge.
You can bet your ass if a citizen discharged their weapon in a residential neighborhood because an acorn dropped…and sounded like a ‘gun shot…we’d be in jail.
@@Hollylivengood Absolutely true!
"Worked himself up to be overly sensitive to that sound..." That describes cops beautifully.
Hysteria is a necessary qualification to have a gun and a badge.
True
Well to be fair in a literal split second cops could be, and have been killed. Oftentimes out of nowhere and from a random direction. This guy in particular still was overly negligent. But there are literally countless videos of coos being murdered so fast they have little to no time to react. If you had to do that job, you would probably be a little paranoid too
@@lucassmith1886The top 10 most dangerous jobs at the site I visited did not include cops many of which are prone to hysteria, possibly the seed of which is planted during training to produce exactly what to video shows us, this coupled with qualified immunity is a danger to the community.
@@lucassmith1886Statistics show that pizza delivery, and construction workers have a more dangerous job, and they seem to be mostly chill.
For anyone who says police aren't above the law, this case is a perfect example of how they are. Imagine if you were a CCW holder who was walking by a parked car with someone sitting inside it, and an acorn fell on the car and you drew your weapon and fired into that car even once, let alone until your magazine was empty. You would be in jail for years.
You're right man. I'm usually pretty pro law enforcement but I believe this man should be charged for this.
If you even made it to jail. The police would probably shoot you as soon as they showed up and saw you did something they are supposed to be doing. Acting like a coward and shooting first just incase, because everyone is out to get them.
They really get mad if someone tries to prove they have the same level of fear and disregard for public safety as the police.
Exactly 100% true

The way that guy was flailing around so dramatically like he was in a an all out gun battle!! Just so insane. He's got to be incredibly embarrassed by the situation.
I thought he was going to drop his gun he was shaking so badly.
Smollett disease?
I think he believed he was being fired at. Its a very sad situation maybe he does have PTSD from the special forces even though he wasn’t in combat.
@@BobbyJohnson-bc1kb He never even saw combat?? No excuse for his reaction.
@@nautilusmagellan7263 You don't need to see combat to be negatively effected by being in a heightened state of awareness constantly for so long and perhaps his base took fire which may have messed him up. Maybe his friends died. There's endless ways war can traumatise someone without being directly shot at.
I am in no way making excuses for him trying to kill that acorn and everything else in the street. He's clearly incompetent and shouldn't be a cop or anywhere near a firearm in public. I'm just saying that PTSD is more complicated than being involved in what would normally be thought of as a traumatic situation. As they say "war is hell". 🤷♂😕

This case reminds me of Deputy Barney Fife and why the Sheriff of Mayberry let him have just one bullet, that he was required to keep in his shirt pocket.
He resigned. Not fired, not punished. Other officer ‘exonerated’. Insane. Rules for thee and not for me.
I read today that he has been reinstated as a police officer.
I wouldn't be surprised. Where did you read that?
Hell, he’s got street cred now he’s got an Officer Involved Shooting under his belt.
It was lame of him to panic like he did, but he thought the acorn sound was a gunshot. He responded like police are supposed to, though it was a frightened rookie version.
This is the type of cops you get when you def und the police
I love how Beth holds on to the paperwork while engaging the imaginary threat.
She's a paper warrior.
Why do cop cars need tinted windows? And why are they sound proof?
I can always count on you for the best possible perspective! As a former police officer, I was also shocked by this case. I was also highly disturbed that they placed a handcuffed arrestee in a vehicle, and then walked a distance away, where they could not directly see him. This should NEVER be done. An officer should have eyes on the person in the vehicle at all times, in case they have a medical event. There have also been cases of arrestees, in an attempt to get in a comfortable position in the back of the car, have fallen forward and gotten stuck in the face down position, and died of positional asphyxiation. Bottom line, if an officer had kept eyes on the arrestee like they should have, this would not have happened.
At least they didn't leave him on the railroad tracks.
Im happy there are experienced cops like you, who have been through it and have an answer for any situation that may arise. However, there is a major disconnect between cops and the public. I dont know if it will ever be mended. I have something i was thinking about that may create some trust between everyone again. It would provide positive interaction and hopefully mend the whole dynamic between cops and regular people...i need to make a video about it because i havent ever heard anyone with this idea...

What happened to Officer Hernandez in your mind?
Has anyone checked the local squirrels alibis? They are quite intelligent and it's entirely possible they set this police officer up.
Negligent discharging of his weapon.
If you have a porch with a metal roof the damn things can be pretty loud. But I can confirm they do not sound like gunshots, suppressed or otherwise. I rented a townhouse years ago. My nextdoor neighbor was a lunatic. He was one of those guys who's offended by a cat walking across what he said was his yard. It wasnt, it was a common area behind all the buildings. He also swore that the people who lived across this common area were throwing things at his wife. In reality the oak trees were throwing acorns at both of then because they were assholes.
The oaktrees or the couple 😅?! No, I get it! And yes, it is pretty loud!
I used to live in a cottage with a walnut tree over it and a metal storage shed. Squirrels would eat the nuts and drop the shells on the metal shed. Definitely sounded like I was under aerial bombardment 😅
This is absolutely incredible. Feels like something uniquely American.
Our cops are so scared of acorns that they empty full clips and still hit nothing, then don’t face any consequences. Incredible.
It is amazing that the other officer fired her gun without knowing what she was shooting at or why. It is astounding that this is somehow less of the story.
@@hateisignorance Please keep talking about this. She is a menace to the public. She shot without identifying the threat.
A cop yelling “shots fired I’m hit” is insanely dangerous for any non cops in sight, as deputy Beth showed us by blindly emptying her clip in a general direction

Five months of training, to be a cop in Florida. Just for comparison, it takes about the same amount of training to be a manicure tech. It takes a year of training to be a hair stylist. The officer should have performed a pat down and weapon check before placing him in the vehicle. Especially when the police were made aware prior to making contact that he could possibly be armed. Now because of all the political turmoil, lawsuits, etc. It's hard to find top of the line people who even want to enter into law enforcement. Look at what the military is doing now because they can't get their quota. I don't have to tell you what that means. For the military, that also means a possible draft.
Shots fired shots fired ,officier having a violent paranoid episode . Unable to make up story to cover up complete f up.
How does someone who is this high strung become a police officer? He was rolling like someone spamming dodge in Dark Souls... looking for those i-frames I guess. Then just unloading a magazine into a residential area. Crazy.
They probably saw that he had been an army officer with the green berets and figured he wasn't enough of a coward to randomly start shooting at acorns.
I know the difference between an acorn hitting the roof of a car and a gun shot. Unfortunate.
the way the guy did the rolls and started dumping bullets with no hesitation looked like when I'm panic fighting in video games lmao. Dude was acting like he was at critical from an acorn. I'm baffled this guy managed to get hired.
I know that acorn, he is devastated, but just wants to be left alone.
He sits in the corner waiting for autumn and mutters to himself, "People are nuts... absolutely nuts..."
I’m fucking crying at the way the acorn is described in this video 😭😭😭
Maybe his mom read him the Chicken Little book when he was a kid and he thought the sky was falling?
I think you’ve figured it out!
My first thought when I hear about this the other day was, that man has no business being in law enforcement or any profession that requires carrying a gun.
Guy was special forces with two tours in Afghanistan and never saw direct combat .he must have been the other kind of special just like our president.
Jesse resigned, went 10 miles down the road to next town and was rehired with a pay raise for time experience and is wearing the uniform badge and weapons today. 😂
I can't tell if this is fake, soon to be real, or real now.
Poor us.
He renewed his medical ID to include “nut allergy”
I live in Fort Walton Beach where this happened. About a mile away.
We had not heard of this local story until it came out on TH-cam this week.
When I tell you that this man can not go out in public anymore…..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Poor guy will probably have to move .
We’re calling him Officer Acorn.
I dunno, by moving on I wouldn’t surprised if he moved on to the other side after all that grief and humiliation.
@@DMAGAEscober gosh, I pray that’s not the case. He deserves to feel humiliated by his mistake. But I hope he can learn from it, move forward in life and perhaps help in educating other departments on what they might be lacking during their initial & remedial training. How officers with prior PTSD might need additional training and resources prior to them being unleashed, armed into society.
It’s all a slippery slope. But I do pray the best for this man. First and foremost, I pray for the poor man in the cruiser. If he already wasn’t a fan of LEOs, they just gave him a lifelong reason not to be.
@@TheDirtchickenyes amen I pray so too🙏🏼
