    great video, not many people seem to understand the KS2's and the Haynes manuals and other resources mostly have solex instructions as those were used outside SA. Will be cleaning my KS2 this week as I refreshed most of my fuel system recently and its probably good to do now. The KS2's are great carbs and I made sure to collect a few originals just in case I need them.

      Hi Darryn. Yes over the years I have found there was not much info on the net on the Ks2,.. More on the solex... And generally I found people in SA wanted to know more about this carb.... And there are many many carb models still around.. They nice carbs... Easy, when u get to know how they work and the little things that go wrong with them.. Yeah hold onto your Ks2 carbs, they will be quite valuable soon...all the best with the cleaning, and enjoy.

    I see the butterfly for the choke is fully open...mine seems to get a miss when i rev...so like a va pam effect...also when slowly revving through the rpms i notice a sort of blow back sound from my exhaust...ive replaced my baseplate and fuel pump and still have problems with popping and uneven idling...carb is only a few months old.

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the choke butterfly must be fully open.. (When not in use). Only when you pull on the choke lever inside car, it will move to partially close at carb side.. Is your choke set correct... Because if not, you could unknowingly be driving with partially closed on carb.. That will cause performance issues and heavy fuel consumption

    I have a slight pink when I change gears to 3 and 4 on my 1995 1.3 Golf 1 whilst running at normal temperature only. I have set the timing correctly and replaced the coil. Can the carburettor or AC pump cause this ? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you.

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can get engine ping if your fuel mixture is too lean,and that can happen when you have an airleak..it leans out the mix,causing that ping..another reason can be too much carbon build up on top of your pistons and valves,( causing cylinder to run hot )in that case just take a nice long drive ,after throwing in some valve ease additive into tank , it will get rid of carbon build up .I'm not saying that's the reason for pinging,but it's possible..Do maybe back off ignition timing a wee small bit,and see how it goes

      @@pjs-golfmk1-diy Hi, PJ, thank you for your reply, well she has a vw fox auto 1600. At the moment the car smells of fuel, when we drive up hill, it gets progressively worse in traffic, and then it is fine on the open road, I have had the fuel pump replaced, but now I am struggling to start it, and when I have driven a bit it’s almost like the carburetor is flooding and then it struggles to start again. So I am thinking it’s more a carb than fuel pump issue, because the carb is also “wet”. Also once we have driven the car it does not accelerate smoothly, it almost feels like there is air coming with the fuel, not sure how to describe it, but let’s just say it’s not as smooth as I would have hoped it to be after replacing the fuel pump. I really appreciate that you have taken the time to come back to me. I’m not a mechanic and your videos have really helped me a lot. Thank you again.

      Forgot to mention that the carb could simply be running too rich.. And to decrease fuel you wud need to turn the fuel screw in, clockwise, about a full turn.. But u must do it when engine is warm and at normal operating temp....when u turn that screw in, listen to the sound of the engine... If it starts getting shaky, then back off the screw a quarter turn.... The idea is you want it to run smoothly.

      @@zedmedia727 to do that job you will need a torque wrench. Remove your cylinder head and make sure your valves are clean and seated properly . You can use carb cleaner to get some of the carbon buildup off . Make sure your engine block is clean avoid using any sharp tools to clean it off I would use carb cleaner to get most of the dirt off . Reinstall the cylinder head with a fresh head gasket and make sure it is torqued to spec . Make sure you drive that car easy for a while to allow the heat to set properly
      Most importantly make 10000% sure that your camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket is lined up with the timing Mark's before reinstalling the timing belt and turn the crank over slowly with a breaker bar to make sure the motor is timed perfectly before cranking it

      @@zedmedia727 sweet 👍 most head gasket changes are the same . Do some research on head gasket replacement for 1.4 or 1.6 motors it's most the same principle. Do some research specifically for your car and if possible try and find a workshop manual on your car to help you get all the torque measurements. But it's all basically the same just maybe watch a few head gasket replacement videos just to get a basic picture of the procedure . I will help you understand it better. Good luck bud👌

    My advice is watch and learn what's going on but don't try taking a chance unless you're in possession of your NTC 10(?) otherwise having viewed this video thinking you are now a big Greasemonkey the car will be fucked and cost more to get it going again .
