What's really crazy is that obi wan's mastery of soresu was so amazing that mace windu and many other jedi considered him the be THE master of the form. And the reason count dooku caught obi wan off guard with the force in revenge of the sith was because he found that he couldnt penetrate obi wan's defenses anymore they were too good at covering his precise strikes leaving very little openings. This is even the case in the novelization of the movie but I dont think that's canon anymore. So since dooku had no options and anakin was about to be breathing down his neck he had to separate them, and since obi wan was weaker in the force and a but older he focused on him with the force. So it's actually quite impressive that count dooku someone who's whole style is poking holes in defense couldnt do it to his pupil's pupil.

I had a weird dream last night where episode 4 consists of Vader getting frustrated with Kenobi's weakness in the Force and decides to train Kenobi back up to fighting shape again because he wants a proper revenge.
But Vader is shit talking Kenobi the WHOLE time as if they were master and learner, but the roles are reversed.
Imagine a mental image of Kenobi pinned to the floor with the Force with a large, heavy torso sized rock sitting on Kenobi's chest and the only way to move it is the Force.
"Your powers are weak old man."
Or Vader beating the ever living shit out of Kenobi with practice wooden lightsabers.
"What's wrong Kenobi, get gud noob!"
When they last met on Mustafar Vader was but the learner now HE'S the master.

I hope we see an episode where Quinlan Vos meets with Kenobi to send him through a trial similar to that of Luke going into the cave. In this scene it would be awesome to see an older Kenobi have to face mirages of combatants he’s faced in his youth like Maul. We would get to see him conquer his traumatic stress of years of war and relationships ravished. By doing so Kenobi could reconnect to the force stronger than before. An event like this could lead to a more stoic and confident Ben Kenobi we remember seeing in A New Hope.

    • @jenniferkorf4767

Something we talk about in boxing is boxing IQ. I think Obi-Wan has a seriously high fighting and dueling IQ. He was a padwan seeing his master die and he didn’t freak out. And manage to get the surprise on Maul even while Maul had all the advantages. Against Dooku he knew not to charge him. I’m 100% sure he had the master plan to defeat Dooku the second time. Clearly the smartest Jedi to live.

His inteligense made him one of the best generals in Clone Wars. His character made him one of the best Jedi ever. His only weakness is his force sheeld. He has one of the best character developmeni in fiction.

when qui gon jinn got killed by maul, for obi wan it wasn't rage he felt but determined justice. its the same concept as electric judgement. which can be confused with sith force lighting, which is focused from hate and anger. where electric judgement can only be activated when the jedi is extremely compelled to enforce justice.
thru the entire fight gin and obi used a non lethal light saber form moves meant to subdue, disarm and capture maul alive, but maul was a master of all 7 forms, so good he could take on a master and soon to be jedi. then when he knocked obiwan off the cliff his emotions were filled with joy, pride. so he lost his sharp focus, that the sith get from anger and hate. then when obi one summoned the force, grabed gins light saber, maul was expecting obiwan to use the same basic self defence form and anticipated a disarming strike. but the light side of the force itself guided obi-wan to perform a killing blow. because there was no way to capture him alive, his master was dead. obi wan would of died he fought toe to toe and in an equal fight, and there would of been no justice at all for the Jedi maul killed. so the force guided obi-wan to strike a killing blow at the very exact moment he would of only have been able too.
which is parallel to luke putting away the guiding system when he took the shot at the death star. he had to forsake all conventional thinking from past, experiences and training, and truly let go and let the force guide him to perform a very precise action.
this also shows that qui gon jinn did his duties as a teacher masterfully, as he had to meditate to connect to the force, where obi wan was able to summon it in the very moment he needed it most. Obiwan had surpassed his master which is the hallmark of a great teacher. in that instance he had also been able to technically disarm maul by cutting his dual saber in half.
this is what confused maul because he was a sith and did not expect this padawan to deal a killing blow in the end, when every move he used before was from a pacifist form. since maul could of never grasped the concept of determined justice. also he did not understand how the Jedi draw there use of the force. where the sith it just pure tenacity, grit, hate and focus. with the jedi it a sudden burst of genius focused in a single blow at the most important time, hidden/disguised, backed up behind natural jedi tenacity and grit.
later obi wan would learn form 3 which was the most effective ultimate self defense form. to gauge his opponent and to tire them out, then when the time was right he would in n instant become one with the force, which would guide him to make a decisive move needed to win the fight. form 3 was his bead and butter but becoming one with the force and improvising a move guided by the force was his ace in the hole.

Obi-wan in the Revenge of the Sith novel out dueled Dooku. After He and Anakin were using a planned attack on Dooku that lured Dooku into a false sense of security, Kenobi and Anakin switched to their normal lightsaber styles. It was at this point that Dooku's Form 2 was no match for Kenobi's perfected form 3 and it sent terror through Dooku. Dooku then had to catch Kenobi off guard with force tactics.

Fun fact: Obi-wan's absolute mastery of Soresu is what allowed him to defeat Anakin/Vader on Mustafar.
On paper Anakin was more powerful than Kenobi at the time of their duel, Anakin's power was even further boosted after his fall to the Dark Side. However Kenobi's mastery of Soresu, along with his intimate knowledge of Anakin's fighting style and personality, made him the perfect foil to Anakin's rising power, allowing Kenobi to (barely) keep Anakin at bay until he could take an advantageous position. Much like Windu's Vaapad made him the perfect foil against Darth Sidious, who's power technically eclipsed all of the Jedi.

    • @Avenging_Archer
      @Avenging_Archer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, they were never actually mentioned in any of the movies. Nick Gillard who choreographed the prequels, didn't do it according to the "lore". Lightsaber style lore was written around his choreography. So in a way, Lucas never cared for lightsaber styles.
Second actually there's very interesting swordplay in the last duel in Kenobi. Aside from using his iconic stance in the beginning of the duel, Obi Wan uses his standard Soresu but also goes back to using his aggressive Ataru and incorporates many Makashi style one handed techniques including thrusts and parries.
Course, if all you're doing is being focused on being a hater, you would never realize that.

Does anyone know what each form is and what they do? I do like to perform a wait and see approach, to know someone, find out if someone is worth me getting to know before i proceed. Is there a Jedi form like that?

That sounds like form 3 soresu which is exactly what obi uses, it's basically defense until you see a opening (which is how obi beat grevious) but I think Gen Tech actually has a video covering all forms of lightsaber combat

Ok, so now I am wondering, what DOES happen to those who don't become padawans? Are they just sent away from the temple, young teenagers who have the ability to use the Force, but no longer have any familial connections either with their blood family or the the ones who raised them? Because that just seems like a recipe for falling to the dark side. I genuinely don't know the answer, so I'm open to hearing what it is?

The 3 rings of defense weren’t around during his lifetime, it was invented by Luke Skywalker’s Jedi order

Maybe I was just a boring teenager... Okay I definitely was, but I never wanted to do anything risky as a kid. Motorcycle? No way. Skateboard? Absolutely not, I might fall and that would hurt. Tricks on my bicycle? Nope I like my wheels on the ground. Front flips on a trampoline? The one time I tried it, I literally almost broke my neck when I landed on the top of my head, with my body straight vertical above it. I vastly preferred safe, solitary, mostly indoor pastimes. Video games, books, movies, etc. It also didn't help that I was never particularly athletically inclined.
