    I absolutely love the leg kicks Obi Wan was doing when he was dual wielding sabers. But I know now why Maul hated him so much. He was constantly getting bested Obi-Wan in pure combat. Combat is something Maul valued and esteemed so highly, not meditation, charity work, or self-control, but to dominate in combat. And so he slowly realizes that this young punk Kenobi is constantly matching and surpassing him in his perceived forte. So maul dedicates his life into regaining his confidence by beating that guy whom he can never defeat. A useless life pursuit that eventually has taken Maul no where. Meanwhile Obi-Wan has beaten Maul and his brother, while significantly improving all the other facets of his life.

      @galatian5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@donniethedinosaur9921 If the other guy can wield what power he has better than you, or negate your power advantage, then he's going most likely win the day. I'm reminded of Braddock's ambush during the Seven Years War. The French used what they had more efficiently and effectively to defeat a more powerful force. Take Tyson who fought mostly larger opponents. He used the D'amato method to guard up and get in close. Obi Wan was like that. His form 3 allowed him to shield up, wait for Maul to get stupid, and crush him.

    • @donniethedinosaur9921
      @donniethedinosaur9921 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree obi wan wins because of mauls arrogance’s but u make it seem like maul is less powerful than obi wan

    • @galatian5
      @galatian5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@donniethedinosaur9921 I've never implied that...save for towards the end of their careers. Maul has been doping up so much dark side energy, that he has the side effects of the "juicing". Meanwhile Obi-Wan's light side natural gains have set in, thus eventually making him the stronger. Maul started off more powerful than Obi-Wan and more experienced in killing. So it was a huge blow to his ego, getting beat by someone who was weaker. Then getting his tail kicked again by the same Jedi whom Maul was more powerful than. Then getting his brother killed by that Jedi. Then finally having his long time opponent Obi Wan end up more stronger than him and the one to kill him once and for all. In a way, Maul is the equivalent of Pharaoh from Moses' story in the Bible; a super powerful villain who ends up the punching bag of the good guy.

    I love the lightsaber duel evolution videos. The final duel between Maul and Kenobi is poetic on so many levels. Obi-wan's focus on growth and overcoming his weaknesses allows him to predict exactly how Maul (who is forever stuck in the past) will attack him, allowing him to defeat his nemesis. At the same time both men come to realize that they have more in common than they had thought. It's magnificent story telling.

      I think Maul's last showing should have better screen time.
      Maul is more than half insane, suffering from heat stroke, and having " visions " ( fake outs ) winning and losing to Kenobi. Three wins and three loses and the seventh choice, making peace with Kenobi and walking away. Then when Maul is defeated by Kenobi, he realizes one of his death visions came true.
      All in all Maul was/ is the ultimate survivor, I vote Maul stands up after the fight like KOTOR II
      Darth Sion saying that he now truly is starting to understand the wonders of the Force and walks off into the desert night. With many years late meets up with Luke just before RotJ as a Force Wight giving Luke useful advice and wanders off again.

    These are probably my favorite duals in the entire franchise
    I just like how when maul kills qui gon he uses the same light saber bash but when he uses it on ben kenobi he already expected it and defeats him.
    With maul then dying in his greatest does arms and finally being put to rest.
    Amazing.

      As soon as Ben entered Form IV, Maul became convinced he could end the fight just as quickly as he did with Qui-Gon. Unfortunately, this appears to be something Ben has never forgotten and was very prepared for it.

    OB1 and Maul's final duel is the best lightsaber fight in Star Wars. It's probably the first time in the franchise they really show how a highly skilled, wise, older master actually fights. Almost the entire duel is fought in the mind and then, once blades finally cross, its over in an instant.

    Maul: *tell me is he the chosen one*
    Obi wan: *he is*
    Maul: *h-he will avenge us*
    In that moment after having his chest sliced thru I feel like he no longer cared about getting revenge on obi wan for many years that was never the goal. he was misconstrued and manipulated to hate obi wan. Palpatine broke maul and maul knew that and he thought that if he rode in his same goal decades ago to rid of a Jedi master and his pupil like he was originally assigned to do he thought he would’ve finally completed his mission, but once he knew death was Upon him all he could know for sure was if him ,obi wan and his brother and all the people controlled, manipulated and used by palpatine would get there revenge finally and the fact that after all maul did Ben still knew it wasn’t maul’s fault. he still held him just like how he would hold the same people maul killed. He has been pinned against him from the beginning. just a toy to upset Ben kenobi. his whole life taken from him and kenobi’s only way of experiencing love both precious things taken by palp for his own advantage. even then Ben still has the decency to hold maul and show him that he can finally rest, no more pain no more rage just a calm, cold and sorrowful body knowing one day he’ll be avenged by the chosen one and his son.
    Edit:thanks for likes!

    Star Wars is honestly too good. It appeals to everyone. You got a light hearted space fantasy for the kids but as you get older you realize how deep plots go and how connected the characters are. Sure some of the movies weren’t amazing but it’s definitely quite the astounding universe and set of stories to grace this planet

    In Obi-wans first fight with Maul he didn't practice form 3 yet and was using his masters lightsaber form of form 4. It was seeing his master killed by Maul in which Obi-wan saw the major weakness of form 4 in which he began to learn form 3.

    12:55 _"The reality was Maul had freed him from his one last attachment in life. The loss of Satine perhaps grounded Obi-Wan in a way that allowed him to be a better Jedi."_ I'm sorry, THAT'S your takeaway from her death?! Gotta admit, I've never been more _baffled_ by a Star Wars analysis. Obi-Wan is an even greater Jedi on Tatooine than he was during the Clone Wars, but it's *quite* a leap to assume that it's specifically because Satine died. I mean, what about the twenty years he spent meditating? The fact that he could communicate with his dead Master and thus learn more about the Cosmic Force? The fact that he survived the _genocide of his entire people,_ which is bound to radically change anyone??
    Here's where I think you're mistaken: Satine was never an "attachment" to Obi-Wan. Lucas defines attachment as the inability to let go of things and people. _( “[Anakin] turns into Darth Vader because he gets attached to things. He can’t let go of his mother; he can’t let go of his girlfriend. He can’t let go of things. It makes you greedy. And when you’re greedy, you are on the path to the dark side, because you fear you’re going to lose things, that you’re not going to have the power you need.”_ -George Lucas, Time Magazine.) That doesn't apply to Obi-Wan and Satine, because he let her go like fifteen years ago, when he returned to the Jedi instead of staying on Mandalore. He *would have* left the Order for her, but that's it, that's past tense. He has a duty now, and it's too late - he has turned the page. Confusing his romantic feelings for her with attachment goes against canon. _("Jedi Knights aren’t celibate - the thing that is forbidden is attachments - and possessive relationships.”_ -George Lucas, BBC News interview. _“They’re not supposed to form attachments. They can love people- in fact, they should love everybody. They should love their enemies; they should love the Sith. But they can’t form attachments.”_ -George Lucas, The Making of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.) I mean, Obi-Wan literally says to Anakin in TCW s6e6 _"You've met Satine, you know I once arbored feelings for her. It's not that we're not allowed to have these feelings, it's natural."_ )
    So yeah. It's *not* attachment as the Jedi, Lucas and Star Wars define it. So, how, _how_ in the Corellian nine hells did you arrive to the conclusion that losing her made him a better Jedi? The scene is meant to parallel Anakin's fears of losing Padmé, as well as Qui-Gon's death. When Obi-Wan lost Qui-Gon (in the *exact same way* he lost Satine, down to his loved one stroking his cheek), he got furious. He was snarling. When he lost Satine, he didn't spare Maul a single glance. The scene highlights his personal growth - *that he has already accomplished before losing Satine.* The scene also highlights how different he and Anakin are. Anakin would have slaughtered the entire room. Obi-Wan - because he's *already* free of attachments - shows no rage and no anger.
    The higher state of peace and serenity he achieves between TCW and Rebels and then ANH is never presented as having *anything* to do with Satine's death in canon? It has to do with the fact that he's alone, for twenty years, with all his friends, family and troops dead or worse, with the Force for only companion.

    The depth of their final duel is beautiful. Kenobi first adopts his preferred stance, the stance that has never succeeded against Maul, but here he could not afford to risk even an injury because his duty was too important. Kenobi then puts himself in the same position Qui-Gon was in before Maul defeated him, trying to get Maul to make the same move. The move that undoubtedly Obi-Wan spent years playing back in his mind. The move he had absolutely planned and trained his response to more than any other. Kenobi lulled Maul into performing the one move he was absolutely certain he could defeat. Without hesitation he struck, and after the deed was done he held Maul in the same way that years before he had held his master and later Sabine, both of them dying in his arms after being struck down by Maul. Even after a lifetime of Maul killing Kenobi's loved ones, he still gave Maul the same compassion. That is what it means to be a Jedi.
