It was very noticeable how in the final duel in the series Obi-wan is very emotional and aggressive. Not very Jedi-like, but this was a very personal fight. For many reasons.

Connection I don't think I've read anyone else saying- in that second fight, Obi-Wan finds himself drawing on his attachments and love to defeat Vader and in that moment realises the flaws I the Jedi and Sith, that perhaps the middle ground is where the true power of the Force is found: it's then that he acknowledges that he doesn't need to train Luke from childhood, it's better that the boy experience familial love and learns to draw strength from it (a realisation Yoda never quite came to) and this is also the point when Qui-Gon- a jedi generally considered to be edging into the grey- is able to reach him again.

I think Obi-Wan in the 2nd duel starts off with Soresu, but soon when he realizes he is faster than Vader falls into Qui-Gon's variation of Ataru, if you notice, Obi-Wan's attacks become long powerful strokes, and he ever ground base acrobatic. he is building momentum for heavy strikes, and keeping his attacks coming from both sides, so that try and overwhelm Vader. You have to notice that Obi-Wan is very aggressive in this fight, and he makes use of of Soresu only when he gets put on the backfoot, but the rest of the time his as agressive as he was when he fought Maul, just slower.

Another thing that allows Jedi to move so fast in combat using a lightsaber is the fact that their weapon has no bladed edge of any kind. It is simply a rod of plasma that any part of it will cut an object or person so they can swing it wildly in any direction. A sword has a specific edge or edges that require it to be used in a very specific way, unless you plan to use it as a paddle against someone, and thus the fight techniques are slower and more precise.

During their third lightsaber encounter on the Rocky planet, what Kenobi did was fascinating, when he was beneath those rocks trying his hardest to force his way out there, he instead resorted to thinking about Leia, and that's when it hits him, he then force push those rocks away with ease. Fascinating because, it is similar to the type of thinking of how dark side users get their fuel from, they channel their anger by replaying painful memories, then they convert that anger and hatred into the force, Jedi simply don't often do this, the closest Jedi equivalent to this is meditation, they meditate to ease off their minds, which would help them use their force. Kenobi let his attachment to Leia fill his mind, (which is not the jedi way) and convert it into a mix of anger and remorse/empathy, which he again convert it into the force.

The very first duel 🤺 between the pair on mustufar in episode 3 is still my favourite to this day. That was both fighters in there physical combat prime right there .

I think the commentary around Obi-Wan fighting for something he loves is one of the biggest reasons why Obi-Wan would be able to take on Sidious; he would be fighting for someone he loved, and save Anakin. Maybe not defeat Sidious but he would very much give Palpatine a very difficult time, by generating the type of ferocity the desire to protect another the Sith cannot imagine.

My takeaway from the second duel is Obi-Wan wanted to confront Anakin, to kill him and let him finally rest.

Damn, I hadn't notice Obi was actually fighting powered with attachments, so that means it's possible for a jedi to do so, channel good emotions in contrast to hate and wrath 🤔

In their second bottle, I was thinking Kenobi was using a mix of styles… including form II. When he switched to a one handed fighting style… especially when he switched hands behind his back… it reminded me how count Dooku moved.

A more aggressive Kenobi is pretty dangerous man and if he didn’t have that love of others as you mentioned, man oh man..Vader/Anakin would of been a goner.

Awesome video, never would have thought there was that much nuance and depth in the fighting style.

Great breakdown. I like the fact that Anakin/Vader could never really beat Obi-Wan. There's just smtg cool about Obi-Wan always being ahead of him.

I always loved hom the jedi younglings in the clone wars , idealised kenobi and implies he was the greatest living duelist . ( when i grow up , im going to challenge master obi wan kenobi himself) and the kids laugh

Obviously not the case anymore but when I clicked on this video, it said it had zero views and was released 38 seconds ago. Always a giddy moment when you manage to catch a video so fast. Like, with 13 hours of video uploaded every minute, the fact you can manage to catch a single one of those videos from a channel with 700k subscribers that fast after release is amazing.
