    Just found your channel the other day, and since all my work is foam and hot glue, my son and I made a sparrow chuck glider in a couple of hours with stuff we had around the house. When I said goodnight, he told me I was a "better than normal dad" because I made the plane with him. Just had to say thanks for the experience and fantastic plans. Now off to buy a stack of foamboard........

    My 12 year old son and I built the LongEZ as a chuck glider and were super excited to fly it. We spent 3-4 hours building it from scratch over 2 days. After completing it we immediately went outside to fly. It flew great! We managed to fly it about 4 times before the front wing broke off. With a little tape we were back in the air for about 10 more flights before the other front wing broke off. The wings are now hot glued and reinforced with tape. It still flies great!!
    I would suggest that the design be modified to allow a replacable front wing since the plane is a belly lander it tends to take all of the punishment. Our next LongEZ will be modified so we can replace the wing.

    A well trimmed Canard makes an excellent first airplane because they essentially never stall the main wing when the CG is set just a bit forward. That means you never lose roll or yaw control.
    The forward surface stalls and that drops the nose, preventing the main wing from stalling.

      Hey Dan, thanks for the plans on this! I made it with my 4-year old daughter as a chuck glider and she loves it!
      Quick note on the plans though:
      1. For the chuck glider option where the battery pack is not needed, I trimmed mine to cover the back of the fuselage to compete the look and not have an open area. An idea to add this (as a few blue/green lines on the battery pack) in a future amendment to the plans?
      2. "Stabilizer" is spelt incorrectly! 😆
      Love what you guys do! Keep it up!!!

    "building something that defeats the laws of gravity" Don't you mean "building something that perfectly abides the laws of gravity?" LOL :P

    • @gracklefpv8811
      @gracklefpv8811 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tripalong more like “obeys the laws of aerodynamics/physics” because gravity states that anything that has mass has an attraction, so I guess, technically the flite test guys were right 😆 but it made me think twice too!

    • @bigboy5684
      @bigboy5684 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grackle FPV Would the flitetest guys have really been right in saying that it “defied gravity”? Laws of aerodynamics/physics tend to be based on gravity anyway, and no matter the plane’s direction, gravity is acting upon it. Attraction most certainly does not equal movement, especially when a something like lift is counteracting it.

    When I was in training for my Private Pilot's license, my instructor asked me, "What control actually turns the airplane?", I thought about it since that had never been covered in my training, after thinking about it for a few seconds I answered "The elevator" he responded absolutely right! The ailerons tilt the wings, then the application of elevator actually turns the plane.

  • @danielreardon6453

    The Boulton Paul P.100 was a design for a tail first fighter produced in response to an Air Ministry specification for a manoeuvrable fighter.
    Specification F.6/42 called for a fighter with a high rate of climb (4,500ft/ min to 20,000ft), good acceleration and good manoeuvrability. Boulton Paul's first design was the P.98, a tail first pusher that was judged to be over-weight. This was followed by the P.101, a staggered biplane with cantilevered wings and the cannon carried within the spats for non-retractable main wheels.
    After both of these projects were rejected by the Air Ministry, Boulton Paul submitted two designs with lower project numbers.
    The P.100 was another advanced design. It was a tail-first aircraft, with shoulder mounted canard wings just behind the cockpit and low mounted swept back main wings near the rear of the aircraft. The vertical tail surfaces and rudders were at the tip of the swept back wings. The pilot sat in the nose, with a good view from his all round vision canopy. The P.100 had a tricycle undercarriage. In case of emergency the pilot escaped from the aircraft by jettisoning part of the lower forward fuselage and dropping down out of the aircraft.
    The P.100 was to be armed with either one 47mm cannon, with a 20mm cannon on either side, two 20mm cannon with a 40mm cannon on either side, or four 20mm cannon.
    The P.100 was expected to have a top speed of 298mph at 17,000ft and 435mph at 18,000ft.
    In September 1942 all of the designs submitted to F.6/42 were examined at the RAE, and all of the Boulton Paul designs were dismissed for being too futuristic.
    VIA FLIGHTSOM.COM FS2002/FS2004
    Boulton Paul P.100. This was an unbuilt project for a ground-attack aircraft to a draft Air Ministry specification (unnumbered) of March 1942. The P100 was the most advanced and unorthodox of the many designs the aircraft industry responded with. It had a canard - pusher layout to give the pilot the best possible view and would have had an armament of 40mm and 20mm cannons along with bombs and rockets. Two kinds of models (clean / with missile) are included. By Kazunori Ito.

    In 83 my dad bought me a balsa wood plane with a gas engine. I had to wait several years before he would allow me to build it, while making the wings I cut a piece 1/4 inch too short and it made it so I couldn’t put the wing ends on. He gave up on the build at that point. I built the remainder of the plane myself. Installed the engine and silk and doped it. I never flew it. After storing it around for around a decade I gave it away. I think I’ll stick with paper planes.

    I think it would be really cool if they built the command cruiser from Ace Combat 6. There’s opportunity for fun there, as well as sponsorships from the creators of Ace Combat. Even without the sponsors though, the build would be a lot of fun. The cruiser itself reminds me of the kraken, but with a runway and a more “stingray” sort of look to it. Just an idea; one that I haven’t seen anyone do before.

    Great video and idea i wonder how a RC glider version would handle a slope or high start/bungee launch

    Have you thought about using elastic bands to power a prop for something like this? I remember when I was a child my dad brought home a couple of super simple balsa wood planes with elastic powered props. Might be something fun to try. Perhaps get a little extra distance out of the glider?
