I'm amazed with all of the foam/electric rtf kits available, how many classic balsa kits and plans are still available. I'm considering buying a lockheed constellation short kit, but I haven't messed with balsa in so long. EPO has spoiled me.
I like how the FPV antenna kinda look like exhaust piping from a radial engine. Would be cool to color them metallic silver if it won’t interfere with their signal.
I agree, with that. it would look cool, especially since they work with a lot of prop planes, which originally were, exactly a radial engine. so, it would look really cool. I studied planes, growing up, so I'm sharing some of my knowledge with you.
Polyalchemy is such beautiful filament, I have used that color and love it. I noticed they have a good bit less layer adhesion so I would be careful with that. However, I used that filament a few years ago, so they might have changed up the blend some and fixed that issue.
Yeah, double it up! This plane looks and flies great. I'm still hoping to see an FT 3d/foamboard hybrid plane some day. Printed formers, foamboard skin, printed accent pieces like cockpit, firewall, gear etc... way less print time than doing the whole plane and you should be able to create some great shapes. Seems like it would really be a FT sort of thing and whoever draws up the 2d plans for laser cutting should be easily able to make the jump to 3d for this sort of project!
Love your videos, even more so because they are a firm favourite of my Dad who has Alzheimer's disease... When I have him to stay with me for the day we sit and watch your videos for hours and it is so nice to hear him laughing and be amazed by all the amazing projects. Thankyou so much for the quality time I get with him. Keep them coming ! 😊
Flite test is all about cheap fun in RC, look back into their long history as they have literal $5 builds out of dollar store foam and these 3d printed planes are not expensive either (looks like less than a $30 roll of filament to me). You have to buy a transmitter and power package (receiver, battery, motor) but these have come way down in cost. You can get into the hobby for a couple hundred bucks (mostly the transmitter) and fly for years with very little added money spent. Most parts can be salvaged in a crash. I say go for it
I've now printed 5 Eclipson planes, 2 model A,'s 3 Model C's. One really cool thing, when you order it, you get the files right away. I started printing my model C's 10 minutes after ordering. I print in standard PLA though, the price and shipping to Canada of that Colorfabb filament is just way to high. I'm looking forward to a summer's worth of planes, all 3D printed.
Any issues with PLA in the summer? I'm in the southern U.S., so I'm wondering if the airflow from flying would keep the material temp low enough to keep it from getting soft. Of course I wouldn't just leave it sitting out in the sun.
@@rsmith3834 I had to keep mine out of direct sunlight, except when flying. Otherwise, I had no heat issues, and we had a hot summer ( not as hot as South US though )
