      It's frequently the issue on these Beat The Chef battles : the normals tend to be simpler (the dishes, not the normals themselves) and more like the dish a regular viewer would have a go at, whilst the chef dishes would be more like something you'd order at a restaurant.

    I somehow celebrate Jamie every time he does so well. If he knows what to do and how to do it he is very organized and his food looks so good. Just from the visuals I would vote for Jamie because his food looks very good and I know what I can expect from his dishes. James recipe sounds really interesting and I really wonder how it tastes. It is relly difficult to imagne from Bens discription how the dish really tastes like (and that is in no way his fault or anything).
    In the future I would love to see more recipes from around europe. Traditional dishes from all around europe in a three-way battle or something. And not just the usual 5 countries but also the smaller ones or lesser known cuisines. Iceland vs. Estonia vs. Austria or something like that.

    James’ dessert reminds me a lot of a very traditional cake in the US called a Kentucky jam cake. It’s a spice cake with blackberry jam and pecans mixed in topped with a caramel icing and traditionally served at Christmas. This was because historically the only fruits available at Christmas were either preserved in jams or dried and there would often be a plentiful amount of nuts gathered in the fall. I find it very interesting that someone came up with essentially this combination independently.

    • @bcaye

      Spelt flour in the cake (a variety of wheat).
      Both white and whole wheat in the flatbread.
      Wheat beer in the caramel. What other grains?
      Btw Jamie used slightly less flour-he dredged his meat, added some to thicken the gravy, made pastry and rolled his potatoes in semolina.
      Both dishes looked great, though.

    Honestly, with the brief being a celebration of wheat...I thought that Jamie's would have been the winner given the fact it used wheat in so many different ways. James used wheat, yes, but did he really celebrate it?

    • @bcaye
      @bcaye 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously? Two main elements of the dish were mostly flour, the sauce was flavored with wheat beer which is a very distinctive flavor because of wheat.

    • @craigbryant9925
      @craigbryant9925 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jamie's use of wheat - sauce, pastry, potatoes.
      James' use of wheat - cake, bread, sauce.
      Maybe Jamie used more different forms of it but I think that with James' dish consisted of a higher proportion. They both celebrated it in a different way, neither less than the other.
